Took my mom there Saturday. I've had good food in the past. But the help wanted sign should have given me a clue as to what was about to happen. Long story short...her sausage was barely warm but she wouldn't send it back. I ordered corned beef hash and eggs. Hash was good but the two eggs had so much raw whites run out onto the plate I was concerned with the safety of my food. I asked for a new plate of food. One bite. One... of the corned beef. The server asked if I wanted to eat the corned beef, and I replied...no, it's not safe at this point. I had put six drops of hot sauce on them in preparation of eating them. When I got my new plate, it was the same food... had the hot sauce on it...with new...uncooked eggs AGAIN. At this point I ate what was not close to the unsafe uncooked egg whites. Server never checked our drinks for refill, didn't have manager come to table or remove any cost from meal. I did point out the raw eggs for the second time. I thought at least a partial charge would be appropriate. This is a high end breakfast place...$30 for two plates, coffee, and orange juice. My wife and I just stopped for breakfast this morning for the first time. Read all of the reviews on Yelp, looked at the menu ahead of time. Sounded really tasty. However, our experiences were mixed. First, my wife ordered the garden omelette and was thrilled. Right size, had all the veggies she likes, and she really loved the taste of everything right down to the toast. After reading the menu last night, I saw the Gianduja stuffed French toast and thought it sounded amazing. Emphasis on "sounded". Maybe my expectations were wrong. But when I read about almond puree, dark chocolate and cream cheese stuffed into brioche, I'm expecting to be able to not only see the filling, but also taste it. The bread slices were thin, and it appeared that the filling was more of a light spread than a filling. Only occasionally did I get a glimpse of anything in between the bread, and only tasted something other than bread and syrup once. I didn't want to use that much syrup, but the toast was really dry and needed something. One thing, and this is just a personal thing with me, is that I grew up with French toast where the bread is allowed to actually soak up the batter before frying it. For some reason, every restaurant I've been to insists on just tossing the bread on top of the liquid, flipping it real quick, and then transferring to the griddle. I really, really, really want the bread to have had some time to luxuriate in the egg/milk bath. I want it to have absorbed the mixture. I want moisture. Sadly, TCSC no different. I would make a special request next time to have it soaked thoroughly, but considering the cost of the special stuffed French Toast, and the lack of any noticeable filling, I think I'll go for eggs next time. Our service was excellent, our waitress attentive and friendly. I'm willing to get past my big disappointment with the French Toast and try an omelette next time. Hopefully it will be as good as my wife's was this time. read more

Had the Indonesian Rendang today for lunch- delicious! Loved the red quinoa. Hard to find a (quality) dish like that in Indiana, even in the college town I live in. The variety is great, whether you want soup and salad, breakfast, burgers or some mediterranean flair. Came to town for a family wedding and found this restaurant. This was an AMAZING stop for breakfast. The best omelette that I have ever had!! We eat here often. It's one of the only restaurants in town that doesn't serve up a plate of brown food. I like the salad and vegan options. The kids can get a kids cob which is chicken and veggies served in a kid friendly way. I take all of our out of town guest and everyone always enjoys it. Third Coast Spice was our pick when we had gluten-sensitive family visiting from out of town. We, ourselves, were also new to the area. I loved the healthy menu, and my Uncle, who prefers dives and family restaurants, loved it, too! In short, we had about five different types of preferences and Third Coast addressed them all! All of their food is fresh and made with real ingredients - no mixes, no additives, fillers, etc. The orange juice is fresh squeezed. The coffee bar service is ok, and the desserts are ok, but the real killer is the food, which is absolutely amazing! :) The staff is friendly. We have taken large groups here for birthday celebrations, and visited just as family enjoying a nice breakfast or brunch. Excellent staff and service. The only thing I would change is that we love hash browns and home fries in our family -- they are an American staple and can be blanched prior to frying for health reasons. Would be an excellent addition as a side to many breakfast dishes. Love this place! read more

What a cute place! I love the moral values of the place, and the promise of vegan/vegetarian options was a draw for my boyfriend and me. He was totally satisfied with his omelette, but my meal was sort of "meh." The hash browns were super greasy (buttery?), and the tofu scramble was just okay. I definitely should have asked if the hash browns were prepared with butter; I take responsibility for that one. The coffee was good, and the waitress was nice. read more

First visit was yesterday 24 July. Were welcomed and informed to set anywhere and if need be the table would be cleaned. Not that many people left and all of the tables had not been bused or cleaned yet! Ok we get it, no problem. We choose a booth that did indeed need bused and cleaned. Now the problem! The waitress saw us there walked by numerous times never said anything to us, I even attempted to get her attention--nothing. We sat there for about 10 minutes, being we were hungry we decided to go to a place we would be served. I've been driving by this place for a couple months and finally decided to try it. I ordered the Mediterranean omelet and an iced tea. My meal arrived promptly and it looked beautiful. However the hash browns were under seasoned if they were seasoned at all, same thing for the omelet. The only seasoning I tasted was the salt in the cheese. You would think that a restaurant with spice in the name would know how to properly season food, adding it at the table isn't the same as cooking with it. I mentioned it to the waitress and she made excuses about how some customer s like it that way, I saw every other customer in the places salting their food at the table. All in all, its a shame because there were à lot of very nice ingredients assembled on my plate with a lot of skill and no seasoning. read more

Ate at this place for lunch today and from the outside and as you walk in, it looks great. The server was great. Then the problem came.... the food. We all ordered bison burgers and they were so over cooked it was like eating a piece of charcoal. It was awful!! I got mine also with carrots sticks instead of fries and they seemed kind of old like they have been in the fridge a little to long. All of us were severely disappointed in this place. As much as i hate saying this, you could probably get better quality food at mcdonalds. Do yourself a big favor and stay as far away from this place as you can.... I know I will. read more

Healthy yummy food for breakfast for the family. Portions I thought were great for the price and quality. They use cage free eggs, have gluten free options and an awesome kids menu. They use local ingredients when in season. I had the chili bowl and my husband the corned beef hash. We both left stuffed. Their hash browns are from scratch. Our server was super nice and attentive and rolled with it when our toddler was being fussy. She kept our coffee cups full too. There is a play table near the front with puzzles and books which helped distract our daughter. And both the men and women's bathroom have changing tables! Love it! read more

I debated between 2 and 3 stars. Where's the bacon? Ordered a BLT and there is not much bacon at all. Very very skimpy. So basically you have a lettuce and tomato sandwich at a very high price. They serve lots of fries with an order. The staff is ok..some friendly and helpful some not. Restaurant service training is needed for some of the team members. We ate here for breakfast last weekend. They were busy, but every table was not full and there were at least 4 waitresses, a busboy and 2 cooks that I could see. Service was terrible. You seat yourself and we sat nearly ten minutes before we were even acknowledged by anyone. The food took a very long time (well over 25 minutes) and then it was cold. We had to ask 2 different waitresses 4 times to get our coffee refilled. To add insult to injury, it was $30 for 2 sunny side up eggs with 2 sausage links, hash browns and 1 piece of toast, 2 over easy eggs with 2 sausage links, hash browns and 1 piece of toast, and 2 scrambled eggs with 2 sausage links, corned beef hash and 1 piece of toast. They comped us a $5 gift certificate for the cold food, but we won't be going back. read more

I'm always impressed with the fresh, quality food I get at Third Coast. I find some of the menu items a bit on the expensive side for what they are (read: Oatmeal) but for the most part I feel that the food is a good value for what you're getting. They have some interesting choices that you won't see most places. It's definitely worth a a stop in. read more

Just attempted to eat brunch here and the staff failed in every way possible. After waiting about an hour for our food and seeing tables around us arrive, get fed and leave, my expectations were low. Our waitress apologized and said our food was on its way... Twenty minutes later she brings me a completely different item than what I ordered, and didn't leave the mushrooms off my girlfriend's sandwich. When I asked the manager what the problem was with the restaurant she informed me that the kitchen staff "is new" and lost our ticket, the waitress didn't know the difference between a chicken sandwich and a BLT "because she is just a high school student", and the waitress lied and said we NEVER had a conversation about whether it was possible to substitute olives for mushrooms or leave them off if they couldn't. The final kicker? The manager blamed ME for not having given her enough time to offer me gift cards and take a whopping 10% off our bill before I got up and left (despite the fact that I was there for an HOUR and never ate a single thing). I didn't think one order could fail on every single level at once. Third Coast Spice proved me wrong. read more

If no stars was a possible rating, I would give it that. The food is great and I love the menu, but the service has plummeted. On two occaisions with my mother, we were completely ignored by staff for 15 minutes until we got up and asked why we hadn't been served. One of the waitresses had literally walked by several times as if we were't there. On another occasion by myself much later I waited 5 minutes with no service. I left after a couple who had come in after me was served immediately. I called after I had left and the woman apologized, but said they had been baking all morning and so were busy, which is a poor excuse when i was one of 3 tables in the place. Unfortunately my aunt and uncle had similar experiences and will literally only order take out to avoid the service. I have been a waitress at more than one restaurant over the years, and so I am very sorry to say that they provided one of the worst experiences I have ever had as a customer. This used to be one of my favorite places in Chesterton, but I won't be back anymore (the fact that I recently moved away is not the reason either). read more

I have given this place a fair chance. It's the only place locally to get a gf breakfast. 1 out 5 experiences was decent. The visit today was just wrong from start to finish. Our waitress, didn't catch her name, short dark hair with a head band is all I got. Anyway, I asked for a large glass of the, "freshly squeezed OJ". It was served at room temp, at best, with a concentration of pulp. My question to her was, did this just get squeezed because it's very warm and has pulp like it has been sitting and the pulp has settled to the bottom. Her answer, "Oh yeah it was squeezed earlier",. Don't worry still got charged $5 for that warm, chunky glass of OJ. I also ordered a cup of coffee and that's exactly what I got. I was never offered a refill but, maybe that conversation about Jaegermeister with her fellow waiter was far more pressing than my coffee refill. My omelette was over cooked, the outside was very crispy. I don't generally use the word, crispy, In the same sentence that I'm referring to eggs in. I question the staffs knowledge of gf food and how to avoid cross contamination. I'm not gf by choice, I have celiac. So in a nut shell....the place is clean, you seat yourself, may have to flag down wait staff to get your order in, if you want to be a priority this isn't your place, guaranteed gf highly doubtful, the OJ, truly is amazing if you can actually get it freshly squeezed. We ordered the fusion vegan burritos. The burritos had a lot of potential BUT fell flat. No taste whatsoever; you had to pack on the sriracha sauce in order to eat the bloody thing! But hey ho, I didn't come on here to complain about the food. We wanted fast and we wanted good ingredients so other than McDonalds, I'll take this place. What bothered me was the service!! I'm not sure if the waiters and waitresses were pretentious but nobody bothered to come over and take our order. Other patrons came in after us and were served right away. Wft?!? When we finally got someone he begrudging took our order, brought our food out and then never came back. It's a crappy feeling watching other patrons getting served with smiles while you sit there wondering how come others got a lemon with their water, straws for their drinks, refills, and a check at the end of their meals.
