This place bakes new desserts daily and they are ALWAYS a hit! The quality and pricing of the food really does make this a top tier restaurant. I love how everyone can eat at the table, traditional and vegan. It truly is an all inclusive menu. I have about five to six more items on the menu to try so I feel confident about writing this review. The atmosphere of the restaurant (comforting, welcoming) and the service of workers, their attitude and kindness, I do appreciate. There are busy days and slow days but regardless, they are helpful. TL:DR - My pub-sandwich with seitan instead of ground beef was delicious. Super savory and lots of ummami, didn't even notice it wasn't real meat. I could tell if I really wanted to sit and think about and ate the seitan alone, but in a sandwich it was delicious. Got the mac salad and cookie, both were average/above average. During covid, dining room is closed, but you can order at the window and they have about 5 tables outside for you to sit it. All in all, I will be back, place is delicious. I am always super impressed when establishments can take non-meat products and make them taste like meat. Even though they do serve meat, I opted to try their vegan alternatives because it's rare to find a place that specializes in this. I got the Pub sandwich as it was supposedly their most popular vegan item, and I have not had much seitan. The sandwich was ground seitan that appeared to be pan fried served with onions, cheese, and sauce. Trying the seitan on its own, it was very savory and peppery, and perhaps a tad bit salty on its own and had a slightly chewier texture compared to ground beef. It resembled meat with a bit of tendon. Within the greater sandwich, it was glorious. It went perfectly with the cheese and sauce. For my side I got macaroni salad and I added an oatmeal cookie. The mac salad was fine, relatively strong pickle, mustard, and mayo flavor. The sauce was a bit thick for my liking. The oatmeal cookie wasn't bad. It was very soft and fell apart easily while eating. I myself like a chewier cookie. During covid, their dining room was closed. You order at a window, and they have about 4 to 5 tables that seat four. Serving size was rather large. I could barely finish everything. But all in all, the vegan part of the menu was delicious, while the side and dessert were good enough. I will happily come back whenever in the area. read more

Heard about this place and decided to stop on our way to our place in Michigan. Only outdoor seating was available and being a chilly 60 degree day we opted to take our order out. My wife ordered the Chicken Cranberry Avocado Salad and I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread. Let's start with the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread, I probably should have paid closer attention to the description. Being used to a sandwich type of buffalo chicken dish, this was served pizza style...maybe the term flatbread, I was thinking more like a pita bread. The buffalo chicken pizza was pretty good. I opted for blue cheese dipping sauce and spooned it on the slice as opposed to dipping. Very Good! My wife thought the Chicken Cranberry Avocado Salad was good and plentiful. Now for the bill...$32 for the 2 orders, and 2 desserts. A little pricey but the portions were large. The Buffalo Chicken Flatbread could easily serve 2. What a gem in Chesterton, IN! My mother in law suggested this place for us, since we are all vegan. They have both a traditional and vegan menu and let me tell you they are amazing! We shared the Pub Sandwich with the amazing and fresh cucumber salad, and the BBQ Mac and Cheese bowl (all vegan). I tried a bite of my mother in laws Western burger as well with the macaroni salad which was so delicious. Our non vegan friend had a taco-dilla (not vegan) with tater tots and loved it! Service was awesome, and our food was up in right about 10 minutes! Great outdoor seating area and good vibes. For dessert we shared the vegan brownie, chocolate chip cookie, and chocolate cake with strawberry cream cheese frosting. We will definitely be going back soon. Food was good, but they need to put on their menu that they do not give free refills on their tea. Kinda embarrassing to be told no free refills when you ask for one. We come here every time we visit my in-laws because we are vegan and they have lots of vegan options, including baked goods. My favorite thing on the menu is the vegan chickpea croissant sandwich. The awesome sauce is, well, awesome. The vegan strawberry frosted donut is not to be missed when it's available! It can get busy/slow, so I try to order ahead when possible. I don't like that they seal the pickle spear in plastic, but I understand what they are trying to do. They should perhaps look into more environmentally-sustainable ways to do it though. read more

I had the vegan potatoes O'Brien sandwich with a side of macaroni salad. Yes, I like starch. My aunt had a salad with pecans, blue cheese and sliced chicken. We loved what we ate. When we were pulling out of the parking lot, she said, "That is a really nice restaurant." I'd given her the choice of anywhere, whether Hobart, Crown Point, Portage, Chesterton, and she chose Tiger Lily. That made me happy. I bought a vegan turtle brownie to go. I'm eating it slowly, because it is so rich and delicious. It's in my fridge. Aunt Bonnie and I cannot recommend Tiger Lily Café highly enough. We love it. read more

I've seen the billboard so many times, and always seem to pass when I'm not hungry. Finally stopped on my way home from a meeting in Chicago and I am so glad i did! I had the BLTA sandwich and potato salad and both were very good! The vegan options were plentiful. I also got some treats to take home to my family (vegan cupcakes, a regular cupcake and an Oreo truffle ball). Everyone loved the desserts. The vegan cupcakes were super moist and have light fluffy frosting, exactly how I like my cupcakes. I also thought the prices were super reasonable. My daughter & I stopped here for lunch before going to Fireflies next door. She got the kids sausage pizza, but didn't like it. She said the cheese tasted funny. To me, it was fine, but she usually isn't a picky eater. I had the vegan meatball sandwich (which was amazing!) and the macaronis salad (I didn't love it, didn't hate it - it was ok). We got a slice of the pumpkin cheesecake, which was delicious! I also got a piece of cinnamon streusel coffee cake to eat for breakfast tomorrow, but it looks delicious. I've been to tiger lily several times, and I'm never disappointed. They have the best vegan baked goods in the area. Even the vegan cheesecake is so creamy you can't even tell! I enjoy their pub sandwich and their spinach artichoke sandwich! So yummy! Their fries are served with a sweet, tangy sauce with a bite at the end. Not too spicy, it's good! Vegan's dream in northern Indiana! They asked right away as we entered if we wanted the vegan/vegetarian menu and while we ordered they confirmed everything was vegan (salad dressings, etc...) The food was great, I wanted to order more but we only had enough stomach space for 1 meal ;) I had the "bacon" seitan and Daiya "cheddar" panini with a fresh salad...delicious! My husband had the Chipotle "chicken" seitan wrap and we kept examining the seitan because we couldn't believe it wasn't really chicken! Everything had great flavor and were good prices. They offer everything on the regular menu as a vegan option as well, so you can go with a group that have mixed diets. The workers were so friendly and checked on us regularly. Please tell me why more restaurants in Chicago can not be like the Tiger Lily Cafe? This is a super cute stylish yet casual cafe restaurant and bakery in a strip mall in Chesterton, IN with what they call a "traditional" and vegan menu for dining in and catering. It clearly states everywhere that this is the food they serve and vegan diners do not have to jump through hoops to order vegan food and baked goods. Everything's is clearly marked, offered and displayed and when the food comes out, the vegan food has little labeled picks in it that say vegan. We stopped there on our way back to Chicago for a late lunch. It was 4pm on a Saturday and they were fairly busy. There were 4 of us, 2 vegans and 2 mostly vegetarians. The vegan menu was extensive and we all did not have any problem ordering from it. Before we ate we all took a look at the vegan pastries on display in the cases and we made sure we left room for those! I had the vegan Italian beef, Lena B had the Pub Sandwich and her friends had the Impossible Burger and the Pear Walnut salad. All of our entree's were delicious. Lena and I agreed that the Pub Sandwich was as amazing as it was popular. Lena's Friends really enjoyed their entree's and my Italian Beef was juicy and delicious. The sides including vegan fries and cole slaw were delicious and a good portion. The salad was enormous and so good that not a morsel was left. The sandwiches with the side were very filling but we still had to try the desserts! We had the brownie a cranberry muffin and chocolate cream tart and shared and enjoyed them all! I really liked the chocolate cream tart and Lena and I were battling spoons in the end! Amazing how delicious vegan baked goods can be if they are made correctly. You wonder why anyone would include animal bi-products in them if you do not need to? Everything was wonderful and it was so nice to support a restaurant that is trying to cater to vegan's but is realistic in regard to where the world and Northwest, IN is in particular to the advancement of vegan dining. Thanks Tiger Lily for doing what you do! We will be back soon! Chicago restaurants, wake up and smell the writing on the wall, offer more hearty, creative and delicious vegan food. The only thing I know about Chesterton, IN is that Tiger Lily resides there. We commute between Detroit and Chicago often, and must have come across it by accident (or Yelp Reviews) while on the road a couple years back. Since then, we've been there about five times. Each time has been fantastic. We are vegan, and it's incredible that a restaurant like this exists in it's location - they should be very proud! If it's good, people find it. The bakery alone deserves 5 stars. We always take a few treats for the remainder of our road trip at the end of each meal. The vegan cheesecakes, donuts, cookies and muffins are all amazing. The vegan Pub Sandwich is simple, but pretty damn perfect. I've been known to eat two in one sitting. We've tried to recreate it at home in Detroit, and just can't get the bread right. The staff is friendly, and are quick to refill that cup of coffee. I'm not sure if it's socially acceptable to move to a small town just because of a restaurant with limited hours, but I'll give it some thought. read more
