An amazing find. Complete perfection from the honey glazed cornbread to an compact but spot on wine list. They make an au poivre preparation which I had on a perfectly cooked filet mignon that reminded me of the French country side. You must give this place try. This was my first visit , 4 family members celebrating a birthday. The atmosphere was cool with a jazzy eclectic vibe, they also had an outdoor patio for dining .My first impression was negative because the prices were very high, not the sort of place to treat the family, and they were out of several things we tried to order. I almost left upset but instead my family was willing to try other menu items. I assume it was one of the owners who came to apologize and after I told him I wasn't impressed ,with it being our first visit and several things we wanted to order was not available, he suddenly came back with a bowl of soup my granddaughter wanted to try but we were told they were out of , so I guess he went in and made it. The cut of steak we wanted was not available so we tried the more expensive cut. Long story long, when we got the food it was absolutely the best steak I have ever eaten , it was cooked perfectly and was so tender we didn't need a knife to cut it. Every person in my party was astounded at how good the food was. To top it off the birthday guest received a free flaming apple crisp for desert, And we were not charged for the more expensive cut on the steaks. Just goes to show how a little customer service with someone going above and beyond and great food turned my almost negative opinion into a great one , and a place I will visit in the future. read more

What a gem I just found! Went for a company Christmas party and ended up staying several hours after because of the fantastic service and selection of beverages. The building is beyond quaint and the food was outstanding. I don't have a single suggestion for improvement. Good food, poor, slow service. Drinks arrived one at time, as did appetizers. Cup of soup served in just a cup, no plate under it. Tuscana linguine served as spaghetti. Ordered ribs but they were out so i ordered salmon (very good) with fingerling potatoes. Out of potatoes so i was served green beans. Bread plates on the table but no bread offered. Only 3 dessert offerings. I ordered strawberry shortcake which was vanilla cake with white icing, topped with a very tiny sliver of a strawberry. read more

This used to be our fav.... it was our "spot". About a month ago we went in and someone we have never seen was not accommodating with seating saying we had to make a reservation a few weeks in advance as they are just so busy. She was laughing and super upbeat but not in a good way, more like an oh well sorry and have you been here? Havent seen you (seemed like if we were more regular maybe we would of been seated) and we were hungry. Felt sort of snobbish and one thing we loved is the service and non snobbery. Went last night and the food was meh, usually its off the charts. I never got my salad, drinks and food were slow, apps came with dinner, etc.... we just paid without saying much. Oh, and wrong drinks were brought but they pushed it on us instead of just fixing it. They need ceiling fans on the patio, not loud fans where you cannot hear yourself think, etc.... just kinda a bummer. We get out not often with three little ones at home and so we want it to be great. Will probably do other things for a while, find other new places to eat. The remodel looks great but go back to what you had before, less is more and great service, food, drinks, hire some people, teach them to act like customers really matter. Waitress is someone we have had before and she is sometimes behind the bar, she is awesome but is one person. Assuming there is some flow issues and maybe they are short staffed. The vibe is okay still, music was okay usually its amazing. Sometimes this happens with places as we all know I just hope its corrected. read more

The only reason this place only got 2 stars because the wait staff was excellent! We were there on a Thursday evening, when we arrived there was only one other table occupied. The decor was beautiful, However there was a definite smell of old grease. It was a let down as soon as the food came out as it was served in tacky plactic baskets with grease paper on. The potato skins were soggy and the bacon that was on them (which wasnt much) tasted chemically. I ordered the steak sandwich which was suppose to be primerib. It was overdone, dry and tastless with no seasoning, it came with extremely over cooked broken onion rings. It also came with potato salad which was passable but bland. Even my coke had been watered down! I was so dissappoint as I had heard that the place was great. Its a shame that such a cute place with friendly, experienced staff has to have horrid food. read more

The ambiance is great, but the food isn't up to the standard I was expecting... My fries were too salty and my burger just ok, nothing special. Found this restaurant to be very quaint. Prices seemed a bit steep, but when we our food was delivered there were large proportions. The chef took the time to visit every table and answer any questions. We found this restaurant while they were doing construction on SR56 and traffic was re-routed. Summary: The food was alright, the seats were uncomfortable (even for a couple in their early 20s), and the prices are too high. However, the waiting staff were very attentive. We visited on a Saturday evening. Upon arrival, the restaurant was mostly empty so we were seated right away, albeit next to the restrooms and wedged next to a crowded table of boisterous diners. The tables were so close together that I had to duck every couple minutes while the waiting staff tended to our neighboring table. We both ordered the evening special which was a no-additional-charge side-salad and desert with the $49 ribeye steak. The salads were simply mixed greens topped with shredded mild-cheddar cheese and a few tomatoes (no croutons or sliced onions). The greens were very fresh and the dressing was exceptional. Meanwhile, our waitress was very attentive and kept our water glasses constantly full of Dearborn-county's signature hard tapwater. The steaks were plated beautifully with a balsamic drizzle, 2 asparagus stalks, and a 6oz cup of mashed potatoes. The asparagus was fresh and mashed potatoes were well-prepared. Unfortunately the steaks were very disappointing. Both steaks were undercooked and the meat was just an average corn-fed ribeye that you could buy at a local grocery store. The deserts were mousse-based and good but not great. By the time desert came around we were both excited to relieve our spines and sit on a padded seat somewhere else. I was also pretty annoyed from having to duck every couple-minutes for the waiting staff to tend to our neighbors' drink orders. For $112 we could have each enjoyed a prime-rib dinner with a bottle of wine at another restaurant. Personally, I won't be returning. read more

Second trip to third and main for dinner. We were able to sit outside again which is great due to acoustic guitar entertainment. It wasn't all that crowded but service was slow. I ordered the special which was short ribs. It came with Mexican corn and it was a decent sized portion of meat. The problem was the 1/4 was fat and was priced at $35 which surprised me; I guess I should have asked. For that price i would have ordered a steak. read more

I had to check this restaurant out because of all the excellent Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed! Third and Main has a sophisticated intimate ambiance. The wait staff and chef were all polite, friendly, and expedient. I started out with a bowl of the corn and crab chowder. I was pleasantly surprised by how plentiful the crab was in the chowder. For my main entrée, I had the bacon-wrapped pork medallion. The barbecue sauce on it was exquisite. The sweet potato fries that came with it were also made perfectly. The star of the whole meal was the dessert. I had the chocolate brandy cheesecake flambe. The chef brought the assembled dessert out to the table, complete with a little chocolate cup on top full of brandy, then he lit it, and it made the chocolate melt over the rest of the dessert. The brandy added a wonderful, unique taste that I'd never had with cheesecake before. It's definitely the best dessert I've ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant. If you're anywhere near the state line and Cincinnati, you don't want to miss this place! read more

Went here on a whim after reading the one review here after a day of tubing at Perfect North. What a great little gem in the heart of Aurora! Great historic atmosphere and the original bar is definitely worth a look. Started off with the tavern chips as an appetizer. If you like bleu cheese you'll be finishing the large plate in no time... We had the meatloaf (HUGE portion and finished on the grill for a nice crunch to complement the moist and savory center and served with colcannon mashed potatoes... mmm) and the signature pork chop (one of the greatest collections of flavors i've encountered in a long time...). Seriously that good. Served with bleu cheese gnocchi over a bed of sautéed spinach with cranberries and all drizzled with a balsamic reduction. Just get it.... You won't be disappointed. Service was great and if you are ever in the area its definitely worth a stop. read more

Was very disappointed in our dining experience . My husband and I went for the first time and we will not be going back . The food was extremely over priced for what we received. I got the orange cake for dessert , it was stale and hard with a shriveled slice of orange on top . The staff was very friendly though. We were told we were the first customers of the day when we arrived at 5:00 . (They also serve lunch ) We were the only people there the entire time . Tonight, I drove over from Lawrenceburg (5 miles) because of the reviews. Upon checking-in, the friendly hostess informed me that they can't serve alcohol due to being between licenses, which was fine. They showed me to a table, and about 5 minutes later, the hostess offered to get me a drink. BTW, Lemonade is just a mix, I don't recommend it. 15 minutes later, the hostess returned to check if I had seen the waiter yet, I told her I'd wait 5 more minutes. The waiter came back shortly after, and began to take the order of the couple on my other side, who just recently sat down. I got up to leave and settle up for the lemonade. She disappeared for another 5 minutes to write up the $2 check and take money, in the mean time several waiters came out to check on my vacant table, but as they walked by me, no one asked why I was waiting at the podium. At least the hostess came back with my money and didn't charge me for the lemonade. read more

New Year's Eve was my 4th visit to this restaurant. So, I'm not judging them on one experience--and I really want to like them but I've concluded that they are over-priced. Love the town, the building and the waiters are all fabulous but every meal has been mediocre and New Year's Eve was a very expensive Disaster. We had reservations. They had a set menu and items were all very costly,,, but this is expected on this once a year evening- I get this. However,, they ran out of everything. Their starter was either corn chowder or tomatoes bisque-- gone. So, they substituted grits. Several steak options were gone. They ran out of potatoes,,,, who runs out of potatoes?! Someone should had run to the grocery store. So, my salmon was served on a plate of... grits! (Second serving of grits for the night). This was a very unattractive meal-- no color at all. My husband ordered the seafood heaven pasta, but all he could find was cut up shrimp in a heavy white sauce. Again, presentation was blah. The meal included a dessert (some choices were all gone) and a glass of champagne served at 11:45pm. The dessert was the size of a 2-bite serving (it appeared that they were trying to stretch their desserts w/smaller servings), and we left at 11:15 and we were the last customers to leave the restaurant, so no champagne. Without alcohol this meal cost us $120, and we were with 2 other couples and our total bill was over $500. Our experience was not even close to this worth. I hope this place comes up with some new, creative meals, as well as a few good vegetarian options besides salads. I'll give them a try again, but will wait a bit for any future improvements. read more

My parents had the tomahawk steak or 2 which was very tiny and had too much fat on it. They would have been better getting their own steak. the taste was ok but nothing to rave about. I had the cajun pasta which was not good at all. Not much seafood in it (one scallop, and one tiny piece of lobster not worth the price) and way to much butter and oil. It did not have an alfredo base as stated on the menu. I also asked for it w/o okra but it came with okra despite the request. My brother had the pasta heaven and it had more seafood, but absolutely no flavor. It tasted like seafood on plain noodles. My friend had the burger which was just fair. She asked for it medium and it was delivered well done. Do not plan to return ever which is a shame because the building is very historic and the environment pleasant. read more

Love this restaurant. This is our third time. The first two were the same weekend. ( because it was so amazingly good. ) This time was because the food was so wonderful. By far the best food in Indiana. The owners are very kind and always find a minute to stop and ask how things are going. The head chef is the best in the tri state area. After many friends and business associate reviews about this place, my family and I decided to finally try. We made reservations weeks before for NYE. Upon arrival we were one of the first parties seated. All of the tables were pushed so far together you touched the chair behind you the entire night. We then waited 10 minutes before anyone approached us for a drink order. Finally after our waiter took our drink orders we waited another 15-20 minutes to order. An hour and a half later our food arrived. burnt. We ordered the filet with crab. A NYE special at $68. All steaks but 1 were burnt. Charcoal for better words. We requested one be sent back, the others were too hungry to bother. The waiter added the steak to the bill although the steak was sent back. Another was brought out 30 min later after everyone was finished eating. Bottom line. Horrible service, terrible food. Will never return. read more

We attempted to dine at this restaurant. Once we arrived we were informed they close at 9pm. They posted they close at midnight on both their website and their front door. When we asked about the hours posted the staff person that greeted us said "yeah the owner just put that up there." Basically saying when those hours were posted it didn't mean much. This place is awesome! I loved the interior, the staff was friendly, and the food was awesome! I'm a local and drove by this place all the time. I finally stopped in to eat and was impressed. The Filet Mignon was perfectly cooked and the owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Will definitely be back. He brought out this dessert that was apple Carmel cinnamon bread pudding. I have had several friends tell me about how good this place is. Since I work at Dearborn County Hospital nearby I thought this would be a good place to check out. I am so glad I did. What an amazing find tucked away in Aurora, Indiana. The building itself is nicely rehabbed and offers a cozy atmosphere. The feeling of coming into someones special place becomes apparent by courteous and prompt wait staff. Michael our waiter and others were helpful and made our party feel welcomed. The food selection was unique with dishes to suit everyone's desires. The wine list while not expansive but had great selections and the cocktail list had fun variations of standard fare. They have a new pastry chef who presented an outstanding list of wonderfully sounding dishes. We choose the pumpkin chai creme brulee and our friends had the curry coconut dessert, both had great flavors and were not overly sweet but instead exhibited layers of tastes. I have never written a review, but I have never been so disappointed and somewhat disgusted. First time at this place. I have heard such great things. We were seated at a table that had a "bookcase" door to the upstairs behind us. People were walking in and out the whole time. This was a little distracting, but we dealt with it, until my husband's chair got hit with it. We moved the table away from it. We waited almost 5 minutes before being greeted by a server. My food came out wrong, was sent back, came out wrong again, was sent back. The third time it was delivered, I took a couple bites and was finished. It was awful, and the sweet potato fries were frigid. I didn't make a big deal because it was my husband's birthday and I didn't want to stress him out more than he already was because of the door. The manager came over to our table at one point and asked if I was finished. Took the plate and did not acknowledge the fact the food had been served wrong multiple times. My husband's steak was charred so badly, it was burned, but he was so hungry, he ate most of it. When the Manager was collecting my plate, he told us to go upstairs and "check it out." We did. We walked around and decided it was time to go when we walked into a bar area with limes covered in mold sitting on the bar top. Disgusting! Maybe it was just an "off night" or we were part of some candid camera show testing to see our reaction to an overpriced, subpar venue. We paid the bill in full, nothing taken off, but worse, no acknowledgement of the food being cooked incorrectly and returned multiple times. read more

This place is fantastic, the food was fantastic and service good. They have good microbrew selection in bottles and decent rotating taps. My husband and I had the shrimp and grits appetizer which was awesome. I tried the tomato bisque which was very, very good. My husband had the cedar planked salmon and ate it all- thought it was phenomenal. I had the bbq salmon and it was amazing as well. Overall, we will put this restaurant on our heavy rotation because it was incredibly refreshing; the dishes were unique and eclectic. Lastly, the owner came out and sat with us and made sure we knew he cared. I can't imagine anyone having a bad experience in this restaurant. read more

I've been here a few times before and have always had mixed feelings ....largely the food is good ...sometimes even great ...but often felt for the cost ($$$$) I had wished I'd driven further for something else ...last night took a turn for the worse ...I had a Groupon for Dinner for two but my friend couldn't make it at the last minute and it left just me ...no problem I'd just take 1 dinner to go ... so for that reason I took a bar seat (I was the only person at the bar) there were very few people in the restaurant but they had a party upstairs ...lots of people working but no service ...finally the owner noticed and got me a drink ...made my selections for dinner ...no one came by to take them for quite some time ...and the service never got better ... then the meal appetizer was great ...the steak Delmonico was possibly the worse steak I've had in my life, it may have been a great cut of meat but you couldn't tell under the 6-8 table spoons of cracked pepper !!! ... and even after scraping it off the damage was done ...menu price of $33 for that and a spoonful of mashed potatoes (thrown under the steak !) even with the discount from groupon it wasn't worth the money ...the other entrée was the Braised ribs ($27 full slab) were excellent ...but from my experience a full slab is 11-13 bones ...not 6 !!! and again with a slightly larger spoonful of mashed potatoes is a little more than over priced ...add to that a gratuity automatically added to the full value of the groupon was another $20 bucks ...which I wouldn't have had a problem with had I received good service ...the total time I was actually tended to was most likely around 15 minutes or $80 per hour !!! ... I chalked up earlier visits to learning or growing pains as they are developing new business ...but after 3 years I'm tossing in the towel and will just have to drive to Cincy if I want a good dinning experience read more
