I really cant understand all of the great reviews here. We were disappointed on about every front at this place. Our waitress was completely clueless when we asked her any questions, had no idea what beer was on tap (and seemed fairly uninterested in finding out anything) and was MIA for most of the evening with a mostly empty restaurant. 3 out of the 4 people did not get the dish as described on the menu. It was the thing ordered, just not the sides or prepared as described. The waitress insisted it was right and it took so long to get our food that we chose not to ask for the menu back to prove her wrong. The food that we did get was mediocre at best and WAY overpriced. You would think that maybe we were just unlucky, but every aspect of our meal was so bad we actually began to question the oh holy Yelp! and its reviews. read more

My husband and I were in Kentucky to visit the Creation Museum. We booked a hotel in Petersburg, IN. After a day of learning, we worked up an appetite. I of course turned to yelp for some help, and the few reviewers on here pointed me to Third and Main. Please. Please. PLEASE don't go anywhere else. Everything else in the immediate area is fast-food, or dingy and dirty. We went to Third and Main around 6pm and there were two other tables with people; i'm sure thats not unusual for a wednesday night in aurora indiana. A young girl sat us and waited on us. She was so sweet and eager to help us choose our food. I had the Charred Tomato Bisque (with grilled cheese bites) and my hubby had the crab and corn chowder. I tried his first and it was SO flavorful and rich. You could taste the whole mix and then taste each and every ingredient separately. It was like a party in my mouth. My tomato bisque was ridiculous. I mean, this tomato bisque is tomato soup on steroids. The Grilled cheese bites in the soup elevate it to a different level. Oh, i'm salivating just writing about it. It's that good. For our entrees, we ordered off the "specials" menu. I had a BBQ salmon in a cream sauce with potatoes. My husband had the shrimp and grits with a side of green beans. Mine was really good. The salmon was so fresh and cooked to perfection. I thought the sauce was a little heavy, but the potatoes that were in the sauce had a crunchy exterior with a soft wonderful interior. Just. Great. My husbands dish was even better than mine. I would have NEVER put shrimp and grits together but wow. I dont even like grits, but these grits are like a cheesy creamy goodness that is out of this world. My husband says the shrimp was comparable to the shrimp we had in hawaii (which was the best Ive EVER had). The waitress checked in on us frequently. But not so much that it was annoying. She even talked about the chef a little after i raved about the food. Oh, and i forgot to mention presentation... You are seriously getting a big city fancy meal in a small town. Aurora doesnt even know what they have. I honestly cant wait to tell everyone about it. And if i'm ever back in aurora, IN, I will for sure eat here again. read more

This place ROCKS! I'm a carnivore, so I ordered the 32oz. Porterhouse cooked mid-rare. I'll be damned if it didn't arrive at my table cooked to perfection! Rarely, do I need a "Doggy Bag" but this time I did. My lady friend went the seafood way, and was likewise impressed. The shrimp & Grits app was outstanding! I always thought grits were a side dish at Waffle House, but WOW! I had no idea they could be so creamy and cheesy. Their micro beers on tap were awesome. Love the Three Floyds! Went here last night for my mothers birthday. We had a groupon. In the fine print it states we will be charged 18% for a tip. The service was fair and the food was pretty good. My sister salmon was not cooked completely. We went in understanding about the 18% tip however didn't really feel he deserved a 50 dollar tip. Not to mention after doing the math, they are actually charging 20%. Well after talking to the manager we only paid the 18% that was "required". We may go again but will not get the groupon, with the required tip your not really saving much money. read more

Went there with a group of about 10 people for work. Larry waited on us and he was worth the price of admissions alone. Funny guy! And very knowledgable about the different steaks and great recommendations on the beer. And if you don't like it, Larry will drink it. This is a destination location on the westside! Visited on a Sunday night with two other couples - Great atmosphere, service, cocktails and food. Nicely prepared and presented... From the appetizers and entres to desert, we stayed pretty close to our waiters comments and suggestions - which were helpful. Ribs, steaks, grits, shrimp - all done nicely. Came here at 6pm on a Saturday night, on the advice of a friend living in Lawrenceburg. Although we did not have a reservation, we were quickly seated. The beer and wine list was surprisingly extensive & they actually had the one unpronounceable wheat beer that my husband ordered (inventory is a problem at other restaurants, even though the beer list may say it is offered). My friend ordered a chocolate stout... and they had two to offer. Nice surprise! Anyways- the menu seems a little spare & some of the descriptions are strange ("chef's choice starch"), but all of us were enticed by at least one offering. Friend got the scallops, because the pineapple/corn salsa they serve it with. She was very happy with her choice. From my perspective, it looked a little small and would not have been enough food for me- but she was happy. My husband ordered the ribeye with a side salad (in lieu of asparagus). It was delightful! He shared a (small) bite with me. The flavor was on point. It was a good size of meat, too. I ordered something I wasn't at all sure I would like: the Princess Diana. I don't generally enjoy goat cheese, but this had a goat cheese cream sauce on house made spaetzle with braised pears, covered in some mushroom something (a word I didn't know and can't remember). Oh my gosh! It was SOO good!!! I was quite pleased that I had chosen it, and the portion was a great size. So glad that I rolled the dice and won! They had live acoustic guitar going on in the bar. It was loud enough to hear and enjoy, but unobtrusive. The ambiance of the place was so nice and they have clearly put a lot of work into this old building looking very nice. My only complaint is that by the end of the meal, they were slacking on refilling our water. We all had adult beverages, but I like to balance my alcohol intake with water- which got increasingly harder the longer we were there. I also wish that they had some sort of bread to munch on while waiting for your food. But-overall- it was a splendid dinner! If I find myself in the area, again, I would happily return! read more

Absolutely the best meal I've had in years. Set in historic Aurora, IN and they do a great business. I had cedar planked salmon which was so tender and tasteful more than any salmon I've ever had. Good portion size and side is included. Friend has pork chop medallions and they were thick and cut like butter. They have a fantastic chef! Best known for steaks but anything on menu is great. We were there last night with reservations. Nobody told us ahead of time they were not serving alcohol. On top of that we waited there for 10 minutes while the owner talked to another patron and the hostess just stood at the stand. We had a groupon and asked if we could ditch the appetizers and get a better meal. It all would have totaled the same price and we figured that's the least they could do considering everything that had happened. He told us no, so we got up and left. Service was poor. Took over 20 mins to get our bar drinks. Out of the 8 people in our party 4 people had to send their meals back for either being over cooked or cold. The other 4 meals were cooked poorly as well but just dealt with it. Much too expensive of a place to being getting poor service and poorly cooked meals. I had heard such good things about this place and was very excited to try. Unfortunately, we were seated at a table under the stairs and there was a party upstairs. The staff had to run up and down the stairs all night. I felt like I was eating in a Chuck E Cheese! It was so distracting and loud. Then our waiter apologized that it took so long to get our meal because there was a party up there and the kitchen was busy. Our steak was cold, my lobster tail and shrimp were over cooked and gummy. Tried to order cheesecake--but because of the party upstairs, they were out! So basically, if I would've been a part of the party upstairs, the $200 I dropped on dinner for two might have been worth it. Oh, and the owner almost apologized for the obnoxiously loud stairs over our head--but instead told me of their plans to expand. And told me about the party upstairs. Food was always great with great price. However ordered two vegan carry out. Didn't bother to tell us they didn't make their pinched pasta anymore and what we ended up with was a styrofoam container filled with clumps of stuck together noodles with hardly any vegetables. Worst part...for two orders it cost us $38!!!!! Ridiculous, outrageous price for such a small quantity and very poor quality. Really was disappointed because they've always been great. My ONLY criticism of Third and Main is that on a busy night the dining room was a bit on the noisy side. Now that that's out of the way, my husband and I had a great dinner there Saturday. His filet was a top-quality piece of meat, perfectly prepared at medium rare, served with grilled asparagus and buttery, delicious finely-smashed potatoes. I had the grilled chicken with orzo, served with a sherry sauce; the boneless chicken breast was probably the most flavorful and tender I've ever tasted. Hubby was very impressed with the $9 glass of house merlot, said it was better than other wines he's had which cost twice as much. We split the blt salad which was tasty although unremarkable. Our server struck a good note between informality and excessive friendliness. She did quite a bit of upselling but managed to not cross the line into annoying and pushy. All in all an excellent experience. We look forward to going back at lunchtime and trying some of the burgers. read more

We went in for dinner this past weekend. They were able to accommodate a last minute reservation for 2. Our server, Joe, was incredibly enthusiastic about the wine selections and went above and beyond to find a great bottle from a vintner we had never tried. The steaks were incredible (get the Wagu...it's worth the little extra) and dessert was amazing too. Josh, the owner, was super friendly and you can tell they take pride in their craft. It has to be THE BEST steakhouse I have eaten in...probably ever, and that includes Ruby's and St Elmo's. read more

Not only did Third and Main accommodate my company and speaker the food and service was exceptional. I won't use anyone else in the Lawrenceberg area! This place is SO authentic! Even the bartender kind of looks like he came from a past era! Make sure you see the original liquor license, and try the wings (they are so much better NOT deep fried!)
