Thidas used to be my favorite spot for thai cuisine in the city for years until last night. My GF and I were wondering what to have for dinner for my 40th birthday and she had never tried Thidas before so I was VERY excited to introduce her to it. We placed our order at 6:59 PM and they did provide an expectation that the food wouldn't be ready until 8:30 PM which we were fine with because it was Mother's Day. I should note that we decided to contact the restaurant directly so we could ensure that they kept as much of our money as possible instead of using DoorDash/Skip the Dishes etc. We had nothing to do so we decided to head down to Thidas at 8:00, just in case our food was ready. When we arrived, there were about 7 delivery drivers for DoorDash/Skip the Dishes waiting as well which we weren't upset about at first. There was barely ANY communication about how long our order was going to be and there was no one at the front to speak to, outside of 5 minutes over the 45 minutes we were in there. THE REASON I WON'T BE GOING BACK - At about 8:45 PM (Almost 2 hours after we placed our orders), I started looking at the filled DoorDash/Skip the Dishes orders on the counter and noticed the times they were placed which were considerably after the time we placed our order (7:23 PM, 8:01 PM etc.). You CANNOT treat customers who choose to order directly from you like this and it's absolutely ridiculous that, if we had chosen to order through one of the food apps, we would get our food sooner. We ended up walking out at that point (8:50 pm). I'm sad to say you've lost a customer of 10 years and we'll need to find somewhere else who respects the customers trying to save them money. read more

Very torn to be writing such a negative review as this was one of my favourite Thai restaurants in Winnipeg. We have been coming here for years and the food was both delicious and very well priced. A visit last month prompted us to cross this off our list and we don't think we'll ever go back. We ordered (the usual) green curry soup and we noticed that there was a little fly in it. I was just about to say something to the server when we noticed it wasn't just one little fly. Both of our soups had hundreds of little bugs in it. They were all quite small - mostly the size of ants - but there was more than one type. Some had wings, others had long bodies. We were completely horrified. I immediately wondered if I had never noticed this before. The worst part was how the staff reacted when we brought it to their attention. They brushed it off like it wasn't a big deal and asked if we wanted something else instead. When we got up to leave they casually said 'we won't make you pay' and told us to have a nice day. I'm really quite concerned about the cleanliness here and the complete dismissal of the issue by staff. Personally, I can no longer recommend this place. read more

I love Thida. It's one of my favourite places to get Thai food. When I used to work in the downtown area, I would order their lunch specials quite often. The one pictured below is their pad thai lunch special, which I got with prawns ($11.95). For chicken/pork/beef/tofu it's $10.95, and vegetarian (vegetables) version is only $9.95. All of their lunch specials came with rice (which is a little weird considering I got noodles), 2 vegetarian spring rolls and either a peanut or garlic sauce as a dip for the spring rolls (I got the peanut sauce). I also ended up getting an order of Tod Man Pla ($7.95), which are spicy fish cakes and comes in 6 pieces, and was served with a sweet chili sauce. These were really good, and I definitely recommend trying them. I've never dined in, but the place looked quite busy during lunch hours. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to dine at the restaurant someday, maybe for dinner or something. read more

Well never visit a new city without trying the Thai food. This place was a short walk from our hotel, The Marlborough. But that's another story. Wine prices are decent. $5C a glass. We ordered the fried spring roll. We brought them back for Katie. She wouldn't eat them either. Velvet ordered the stir fry veggies and chicken. Very tasty and well prepared. I had the masaman curry chicken. 6 out of 10 spice. Just right. Vegetables cooked perfectly and the sauce was correct. Atmosphere was ok. Service was very good. +.5 for service Oof. A bit of a letdown here unfortunately. A friend from school recommended me to try this place, saying that they're the best Thai restaurant in Winnipeg. Seeing as how I had positive experiences in Sabai and Bangkok Thai, I decided to give this place a try. The place is a two-part interior, the outer half with the cashier lacking in decor, but the inner half is more cozy and ambient. I ordered the pad thai with calamari, since calamari isn't commonly offered in pad thai dishes. The dish arrived some time later and something stood out immediately...it was extremely saucy. That wouldn't be an issue if the noodles were chewy, except they were overcooked and broke apart way too easily, not to mention soggy. Unfortunately it overall wasn't something that was to my satisfaction. The meal also came with a spring roll, which was considerably better but not something that blew me away. Service was very good, hence the .5 added. However I probably won't return here as there are better Thai restaurants in the city. read more

I was craving for some Thai on a cold dreary workday; normally I'd drive outside of downtown to pick up some decent Thai. But I decided to walk from portage and main to the foot of the Donald Street bridge to try Thida's Authentic Thai cuisine. Here's the thing, we're in Winnipeg, we are really never going to get authentic Thai food. So for me, if they come close, that's all you can ask for in the middle of the prairies. Things never taste the same as it does from the country of origin because they have access to super fresh ingredients that we would only dream of! So ingredients alone will make the difference even if it's an "authentic" recipe. Anyhow, this place is super busy on a weekday lunch, especially for a Monday. I thought it was going to be a tiny restaurant but it's a fairly long dark narrow room. Lots of booth tables catering to mostly office workers. The lady at the front was super nice and warm. I asked if there were lunch sized portions so she told me about the lunch specials which includes #30 - #31 and #34 - #41 yet #32 and #33 the panang and matsaman weren't included. LOL. The lunch meals includes 2 vegetable spring rolls with a peanut sauce and your choice of tofu ($9.95), chicken/pork/beef ($10.95) or shrimp ($11.95) and a serving of rice. I chose #31 which "Pad Keow Wan" with chicken in a green curry stir fry in coconut milk. The lunch meal came to $12.27 with taxes. She asked how spicy I wanted it and I told her in a very serious tone "very spicy!" So she said "how about a 10?" and I agreed. You kind of have to max it out at Thai places to see what their definition of a "10" is. Most places tend to keep it pretty safe. I guess the lunch rush was dying down as people were mostly filtering out to pay since I arrived closer to 1 pm. I waited less than 10 mins for my food and the food was piping hot! I was impressed! The spring rolls were deep fried but didn't taste too greasy and had the usual carrots, bean sprouts and mushrooms as filling. The peanut sauce was a bit watery and didn't have a very strong peanut sauce but that was fine with me. There was a very light hint of heat....really faintly in that sauce. Good spring rolls - taste similar to other Thai places. When I opened up my chicken green curry dish I noticed a lot of red pepper flakes on top but once again it wasn't that spicy especially if this is supposed to be a ten! Maybe for someone who doesn't eat spicy food that often, this would be a 9 or 10. But for those who can take the heat, I'd say on a scale of 1-10 this was about a 5. The heat gives you a nice warm feeling but nothing too crazy. But all is well as it was probably a good amount of heat for a work lunch. The green curry coconut sauce leaned more on the sweeter side, which I am not a fan of. But there's no complaints in terms of portions. There was a surprising amount of chicken (all white meat) for a lunch portion and lots of veggies like carrots, onions, green and red peppers, celery and bamboo shoots. Overall, it's an okay downtown lunch spot for Thai though I wouldn't say I'd go running back though the service was very pleasant. I'll cut them some slack on "authenticity" as this place obviously caters to the office crowd considering its location. read more

Thidas is a great spot if you're looking for Thai food in Winnipeg. It's authentic and fresh. Very friendly service too! They have amazing peanut sauce! Until today, I firmly believed that you'd be hard-pressed to find bad Thai food; even the worst Thai food I've had wasn't BAD, but Thida's has proven me wrong. I ordered my Thai food go-to: beef Massaman curry with coconut rice. The rice was the best part. The curry itself was sweet - too sweet - and worse than that, the beef was dry and way overcooked. I didnt end up even eating most of the beef, instead wound up eating only the veggies and peanuts, draining as much of the sauce as I could with some rice. I am so disappointed, completely unsatisfied and, worst of all, still hungry. Have to wonder what all the rave reviews are about, but will absolutely not be returning in hopes of finding out. read more

Wow now that's what I call Thai food. Had a pick up order, fried rice, pad Thai and beef skewers. A little disappointed that they don't have pineapple fried rice on their menu, but the regular fried rice was still good. The pad Thai we ordered with level 3 spiciness, wow although it was spicy we were still able to taste the pad Thai. Next time maybe I'll order without the spiciness. Their beef skewers were good, but it was all about the peanut sauce. It blended so well with the beef, although it was pricy for me. The price of the pad Thai and fried rice were worth it because we got two meals (lunch and dinner) out of it. The servings were big. This will be out regular Thai food restaurant. read more

Stopped in here last week for lunch with a friend. The service is fast. They seated us promptly. Checked on us a while later, we were chatting, and they happily came back when we had looked at the menu. It brought me back to when we were in Thailand. I had the chicken noodle soup (#25) and my friend had #24. They asked how spicy we wanted, between 1 and 10. We both settled on 5. That was perfect. I also ordered vegetable spring rolls. Walked over from Ft. Garry Hotel (3 blocks) at 5:00 on a weekday. Pretty empty but got busier by the time I left. Wait staff was very friendly and efficient. Had a vegetable Tom Kah soup and Panang curry pork with extra vegetables (+$1). Soup was a little salty but had really great flavor. The curry was very nice, and medium spice was just right for me (a little burn but not too hot to enjoy the taste). All reasonably priced and in a casual atmosphere. I went here as it was near another event and I was looking for thai food. The service was good the food was tastie, however their 1 to 10 scale was not very hot at 4 so we will have to up that to 6 or 7 next time. They use fresh ingredients, however some of them seemed to be stored (correctly ) overnight and this took away from the otherwise good dishes. Admittedly, I am from Seattle where Thai restaurants are as common as coffeehouses so I can be a bit of a Thai cuisine snob. That being said, the Thai cuisine as Thida's was very basic. The ingredients were fresh but perhaps the seasonings were adjusted for a more midwestern palate. Overall, this place is just not very exciting. In addition, I got there about 30 minutes before closing and I got a distinct sense that the waiter had wished I hadn't shown up as he was busy mopping the floor when I arrived. However when what I have to assume is the owner emerged from the kitchen I think, sneezed and wiped his nose on his arm, then proceeded to pull out a chair to put his feet up on it and lounge in a booth across from me..... This place is better than it looks from the divey outside in downtown Winnipeg but is not the best Thai food I've had. Thai Mojito was tasty, fresh spring rolls were plump & yummy. Entrees arrived steaming hot and full of fresh, colorful veggies but too saucy for our tastes. No Pad Kee Mao or Pad See Ew on the noodle menu :( (my two favorite thai dishes !!) and the wide rice noodles aren't super wide or luscious. All in all, I wouldn't go again but it was good for our night in Winnipeg -- and they had a big flat screen tv on the back wall so we got to see the US women's team win the World Cup, Woohoo!! read more

Pretty disappointed in this place when it comes to take out. The food tastes great and I never have any problems when I dine in but they always seem to get my order wrong when I order take out. I called and asked if they had any lunch specials and the lady started listing out numbers, I guess of the dishes. I asked if the lunch specials come with rice and she said yes and I asked if there was a lunch special with massamam she said no and that for curries the lunch specials only include green or red curry so I chose the green curry. I drove all the way home and was disappointed that my order did not have rice. I called and they said that a lunch special was not punched in that I paid for an order of the green curry. They didn't even offer anyway to fix the issue and I wasn't gonna drive all the way back for rice. Poor customer service. Will not be back. read more

Average Pad Thai. Had flavor and not too bland or anything like that. I got it with the lunch special which comes with two spring roles and some rice it was 10.95+ tax + 15% tip. ~ $14.25. Didn't understand why there is rice next to a noodle plate but okay no worries. Doing roles nice and crispy. Only beef is the price of the lunch special. Definitely not fitting a lunch special and more consistent with dinner prices. Will I eat here again??? Probably will try for dinner. read more
