I love Thida. It's one of my favourite places to get Thai food. When I used to work in the downtown area, I would order their lunch specials quite often. The one pictured below is their pad thai lunch special, which I got with prawns ($11.95). For chicken/pork/beef/tofu it's $10.95, and vegetarian (vegetables) version is only $9.95. All of their lunch specials came with rice (which is a little weird considering I got noodles), 2 vegetarian spring rolls and either a peanut or garlic sauce as a dip for the spring rolls (I got the peanut sauce). I also ended up getting an order of Tod Man Pla ($7.95), which are spicy fish cakes and comes in 6 pieces, and was served with a sweet chili sauce. These were really good, and I definitely recommend trying them. I've never dined in, but the place looked quite busy during lunch hours. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to dine at the restaurant someday, maybe for dinner or something.

Love this place. Great lunch specials. Get to choose level of spice. Pcould drink gallon of the peanut sauce. Fast service.

Well never visit a new city without trying the Thai food. This place was a short walk from our hotel, The Marlborough. But that's another story. Wine prices are decent. $5C a glass. We ordered the fried spring roll. We brought them back for Katie. She wouldn't eat them either. Velvet ordered the stir fry veggies and chicken. Very tasty and well prepared. I had the masaman curry chicken. 6 out of 10 spice. Just right. Vegetables cooked perfectly and the sauce was correct. Atmosphere was ok. Service was very good. All in all a good experience.

I was craving for some Thai on a cold dreary workday; normally I'd drive outside of downtown to pick up some decent Thai. But I decided to walk from portage and main to the foot of the Donald Street bridge to try Thida's Authentic Thai cuisine. Here's the thing, we're in Winnipeg, we are really never going to get authentic Thai food. So for me, if they come close, that's all you can ask for in the middle of the prairies. Things never taste the same as it does from the country of origin because they have access to super fresh ingredients that we would only dream of! So ingredients alone will make the difference even if it's an "authentic" recipe. Anyhow, this place is super busy on a weekday lunch, especially for a Monday. I thought it was going to be a tiny restaurant but it's a fairly long dark narrow room. Lots of booth tables catering to mostly office workers. The lady at the front was super nice and warm. I asked if there were lunch sized portions so she told me about the lunch specials which includes #30 - #31 and #34 - #41 yet #32 and #33 the panang and matsaman weren't included. LOL. The lunch meals includes 2 vegetable spring rolls with a peanut sauce and your choice of tofu ($9.95), chicken/pork/beef ($10.95) or shrimp ($11.95) and a serving of rice. I chose #31 which "Pad Keow Wan" with chicken in a green curry stir fry in coconut milk. The lunch meal came to $12.27 with taxes. She asked how spicy I wanted it and I told her in a very serious tone "very spicy!" So she said "how about a 10?" and I agreed. You kind of have to max it out at Thai places to see what their definition of a "10" is. Most places tend to keep it pretty safe. I guess the lunch rush was dying down as people were mostly filtering out to pay since I arrived closer to 1 pm. I waited less than 10 mins for my food and the food was piping hot! I was impressed! The spring rolls were deep fried but didn't taste too greasy and had the usual carrots, bean sprouts and mushrooms as filling. The peanut sauce was a bit watery and didn't have a very strong peanut sauce but that was fine with me. There was a very light hint of heat....really faintly in that sauce. Good spring rolls - taste similar to other Thai places. When I opened up my chicken green curry dish I noticed a lot of red pepper flakes on top but once again it wasn't that spicy especially if this is supposed to be a ten! Maybe for someone who doesn't eat spicy food that often, this would be a 9 or 10. But for those who can take the heat, I'd say on a scale of 1-10 this was about a 5. The heat gives you a nice warm feeling but nothing too crazy. But all is well as it was probably a good amount of heat for a work lunch. The green curry coconut sauce leaned more on the sweeter side, which I am not a fan of. But there's no complaints in terms of portions. There was a surprising amount of chicken (all white meat) for a lunch portion and lots of veggies like carrots, onions, green and red peppers, celery and bamboo shoots. Overall, it's an okay downtown lunch spot for Thai though I wouldn't say I'd go running back though the service was very pleasant. I'll cut them some slack on "authenticity" as this place obviously caters to the office crowd considering its location.

    Vegetable fried rice with prawns.

Thidas is a great spot if you're looking for Thai food in Winnipeg. It's authentic and fresh. Very friendly service too! They have amazing peanut sauce! Their green curry and vegetable fried rice was delicious! Not my favourite Pad Thai, but they have many other amazing choices on their menu! Worth checking out!

The restaurant was busy but not packed when we walked in a Friday evening. I could hear a few patrons speaking Mandarin so that was a promising sign. The menu was simple. That's was another good sign that the restaurant focuses on serving their signature dishes. I was also glad to see that you could choose from 8 different types of their noodles hand pulled in house based on thickness and shapes. I had flat noodles with beef tendon in soup. My husband opted for tan tan noodle with thin noodles. We both asked for medium spicy. My soup was rich, the beef tendon pieces were tendon, and the hand pulled noodles had the perfect springiness for Lanzhou noodles. My husband loved his tan tan noodle dish, too. We were both full half way through but could not stop eating. Service was really friendly as well. When we headed out the door, my husband asked if we left a good tip so we could come back again tomorrow night.

My friend ended up getting their Banza Beef Noodle Soup and Langya Potato, while I got the Tofu and Rice Noodle and Iced Coffee. Absolutely love the Tofu and Rice Noodle (with spice), noodles were soft and slippery to eat, there was meat on it I think but it wasn't listed on the description and I couldn't tell if it was beef or pork. Warning, it was extremely spicy for me and I have moderate spice tolerance, but the soft tofu alleviated the spice and I was able to finish my dish. The hint of nuttiness from the walnut was a great addition to the dish and made it more interesting to eat since it had that crunch while all the other ingredients had softer and chewier texture. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you just need a quick meal!

I ordered the salad rolls with pork and shrimp...structurally very substantial in size and full of stuff. One could just order a few of these and have a nice filling meal. That said, the peanut sauce wasn't particularly creamy or pea-nutty. The pho is served in a moderately size bowl, but they didn't offer a lot of sprouts or basil. The salad roll had basil as a garnish and I put them into the pho. Also, there wasn't a lot of depth of flavor in the soup base itself...it wasn't watery just bland. Lastly I order the crepe sweet potato and shrimp. To describe this as a "crepe" has never had a crepe (made in the French tradition). It's not at all pancake like and more like a hash brown with shrimp. It was good and crispy but not at all what I expect. The restaurant has amazing ambience, kudos to the decor...with a wall length mural of a peacock and hanging paper lanterns...the restaurant looks exotic. Lastly, service was also just ok, not special or fast. Also, I got my entire order all at once, which I hate especially since I like having Pho hot. When one gets everything at once stuff gets cold! The cooks have no sense of timing (seemingly) and are more concerned about getting the order out. Overall, it's a beautiful restaurant full of charm with ok food and care for the customer. If you're not as exacting as I am about Pho and dining out in general...you may like it...the food is certainly filling.

Winnipeg's Chinatown was so tiny that you'd blink and you were done walking the whole thing. Osborne Village did not have a northern Chinese eatery until this place opened up. It was and continues to be steps away from my favourite used music and DVD store. You walk downstairs to get to this restaurant. Even though I lived two blocks away, I probably did takeout once. Most of my meals were delivery. I'd call in my order and one of the family members (mainly the dad back then) would happily come over to deliver my food. I have dined here a couple of times. Spicy Noodle House became my go-to place for yumminess and a bit of home cooking away from home. My favourite meal was the beef brisket in noodles. The beef brisket was tender and incredibly flavourful. It reminded me of how my mom made it, but without the turnips. This place took them out, which I appreciated! The noodles were thick and chewy. The broth was so good. I never had a disaster with the broth getting delivered to me. I also got these huge dumplings that were filled with pork goodness. Sadly, I don't see them on the menu anymore. However, if you get something similar, such as their wontons, you can't go wrong. They are so delicious and comforting. This place is generous with portions. I have also had their mooshi. I've done the pork, beef, and chicken. I am missing the vegetable to complete my mooshi mission. It was all good. It's funny how I only have had mooshi in Winnipeg. Maybe cold evenings scream mooshi as comfort food to me. I passed by this eatery the last time I was in Winnipeg, and was happy that it's still alive and kicking. I am salivating writing this review. I need to return and get reacquainted with the food again. (134)

Everything else was just okay, but for the price I can't really complain. The broth is thick hot water with almost literally no flavor, and there's definitely no harmony. It's like the broth was made using boxed stock/broth. They say there's a 12 hour in house broth cooked daily but it isn't working well. You know how many ramens and stews taste better as the flavors settle and sink in? That doesn't happen here. The chicken karage is solid but heavy on the breading. You get more crispy skin than chicken which isn't ideal if you're hungry. Or, you know, paying for chicken. The vegetarian gyoza are fine but nothing special. The bottoms look charred but taste soft, almost like the color was painted on - I know it's not, but it still looks that way. Then there's the vegetarian ramen... It's bad. It's bad enough that I can call it the worst vegetarian ramen I've tried. Truly no flavor and it's so unremarkable that I'm struggling to describe it. It's corn, chives, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and noodles floating in hot water. You will absolutely need to add salt and spice. You'll also notice that what you receive in both size and color doesn't match the menu photos. Look at the Monthly Combo in my menu photo. Best example is that the salad I was served was 1/4 the size and also missing tomato and cucumber as shown in the photo. Save your money, skip this spot.
