I shared what my table mates ordered as well. I did not have a beverage, however the adult menu looked fantastic. Will def be back to try something! Service was prompt and friendly. Seating was spread out, clean bathrooms, overall great place.

I've only been here for breakfast, so I'm not sure how dinner is. I would definitely recommend making a reservation since it gets pretty busy. "Sounds good Antonio, best bartender but how about Crown Royal?" "Foo, relax, I'll make you a nice drink," said Antonio. "Hey Antonio," Foo says, "I'll have a cheeseburger, medium, no bacon, fries is okay." As Antonio put down my Manhattan I told him that I was at 22 Bowen's and ran into Chef Eric. Antonio said Eric invented the grind ratios for the Slow Rhode burgers. "Well, Foo believes you best burger in city. Not in state but in city," said Foo. Antonio said, "Who best in state?" Foo, me, the reviewer of the review leaned back in the barstool, looked around the funky ambiance space, and stroked the long scraggly beard Foo tries to grow and said, "I believe best burger is Clarke Cooke House on English muffin with the Gorgonzola." Foo yelled while giving daps and hugs to Antonio all while jamming a massive stack of grat, all tens, into his pocket and yelling, "My name Foo!" and disturbing the nice people at Slow Rhode. On a busy Saturday night, we were prepared to not find space, but gave it a shot. Luckily, there was a perfect corner of the bar had just opened & we grabbed the seats. The atmosphere was convivial, upbeat & super comfortable, despite the crowd. Service was fabulously friendly & competent - the bartender handling the packed house with ease. We decided to go with an array of small plates to try as much as possible. The menu it designed perfectly for grazing & the prices are super reasonable! The selections are definitely on the comfort-food side with a strong southern hint. Ingredients are often locally sourced - something I greatly admire. We began with the a small plate of Pimento Cheese Toast. Just a few bites each but a nice start. Duck Drumettes. The horseradish-y white sauce was delectable! Even my non-duck loving partner was blown away. I was happy to hear that the salad was available in a half portion - enough for a light fresh break to our heavy selections. Next came a much heavier choice - the gravy fries with duck confit. We left off the cheese, but it wasn't missed at all. These were decadent, delicious & super filling! Next time we'd get a half portion - that would have been plenty! Our final dish was the Shrimp & Grits, but we'd already filled up on the other dishes & ended up asking for this to go. Even reheated, it was a perfectly delicious accompaniment to our brunch the next day! I'd be tempted to order this to-go again for just that purpose. While we didn't imbibe, the cocktail list looked wonderful & the bar was very well stocked. We did enjoy a nice selection from the interesting beer list. The sandwiches that we saw come out looked delicious & huge! We'd love to try them as well. We will be back - this is certainly a new favorite for us!

We sat outdoors near the fire pit, which was pretty cozy and a great place for a larger group of people. I ordered a drink at the bar and Joe, my bartender, was super accommodating and nice! I was a little surprised it didn't have a salt rim as a margarita but I'm sure they would've added one if I requested it. The drink itself was AMAZING and the mezcal was super tasty. They don't skip on the portion of the drink. My favorite part was the presentation of the drink, I loved the little green flamingo! After a while, I got hungry and decided to order food. I love how they have many vegan options here. I ended up getting truffle tots, which were AMAZING. It was a pretty large portion, perfect for a filling snack. I was impressed with the freshness of them. I also tried my friend's order of regular tator tots which were also good but a bit on the salty side. If you're visiting Providence, you definitely need to check this place out.

I just wish it was non smoking here, I get that people can smoke outside but when the doors are open (front and back patio) people are just smoking near the door and the smell does carry in.

Service was friendly & helpful, and the menu offers many delicious sounding options. Food is fast casual style (order at the counter, get a card - here all were west side street signs, not the usual numbered placards, food will be delivered to your table. I had the avocado shakshuka, my husband had the lox omelet (see the photo). Despite the large menu of fancy coffee options, we each had a basic iced. It was served in a glass, which was a nice touch. Self serve milk was at a station in the dining room area. Coffee was good, cold but I would have traded some coffee for a bit more ice to stay that way as I drank it slowly. Both of us were surprised when our meals were delivered: the plates were beaut! In particular his omelet was absolutely gorgeous! Now for the flavors: the omelet had a generous helping of perfect cooked eggs (not sitting in a pile of grease, as restaurant omelets frequently are). It was so fluffy that we both thought "that's way more than the advertised 3 eggs," and the lox was thickly layered whole slices nestled inside the fold. Most places chop the lox like vegetables, add it to the eggs, & make it like a veggie omelet - meh. This iteration was perfect; the lox tasted like smoked salty fish, losing none of that flavor to the omelet itself. The potatoes? Fabulous! Great spice mix, cooked until they were crispy. That was a tasty bit of marble rye toast too. My shakshuka was very good, but a bit less successful. The elements were all excellent; the avocado was actually guacamole since it was mashed & there were tomatoes and spices in the dish. The combination worked, except for the bread element. The dish as presented was really more of an avocado toast with shakshuka on top. It might have been more successful to add the avocado/guacamole as a unique base on the plate, with the tomato sauce and eggs on top with toast on the side (as is the way shakshuka is traditionally served) because halfway through the bread got really soggy & less appetizing. Still, the first few bites, while everything was still warm? So good!

I debated whether or not to leave this review but after seeing a few others talk about the service…read moreI thought it was good to be honest. To be clear I ordered pick up and since it was my first time here and I'm rather short and it's hard to see through others, I missed seeing where the pick up orders sat (so that's kinda on me) and I waited in the line for no reason. I'm not faulting them for that! That being said it seems like Cru may need to work on their organization and flow. The lines appear to get a bit backed up (which it seems like a steady Sunday brunch flow nothing so crazy) and when it was my turn at the counter and I was just going to ask for my pick up the server said in a not apologetic or friendly tone before I could say anything "sorry I have a bunch of drinks to make so I'm gonna have to push you guys back." Now for me it's just an oh well I'm just grabbing this it should be ready and I leaned where the pick ups sit, but for the 8-10 people waiting in the line behind me it really felt like okay maybe you need someone else at front of house then (which would be I imagine a staffing issue and not this servers fault individually). Aside from this I really wanted to like cru as it's a somewhat more affordable place (and they REALLY tout this on their website to the max) so I think you could forget all the former info if the food was good but when it came to my food it was really just...fine. It makes sense how their lox sandwich could be so cheap as there was barely any smoked salmon (or cream cheese) and the omelette was meh as well. Not a ton of flavor to anything and nothing special. All in all I wouldn't return and I think it would be a bit disingenuous to give it any of a higher rating (and if there were half stars I'd probably give it lower). There are so many much better local places around so I wouldn't see any reason to return here.

But for a 'whisky bar', my old…read morefashioned was mediocre (though, undersized), and served with crushed ice...and no cherry (!?). I'd expect that at an Applebees. But in a place that bills itself as a whisky bar, I expected something higher end, with a proper large cube. Not the same ice they put in a Diet Coke. They also had no specialty old fashioned cocktails, just a single boring, basic drink on the menu. With the exception of the (very) small oysters, however, the food was very good - especially the chicken bites. Those were a home run. If they would correct the deficient cocktails, and back off the horrible techno/house music that was completely out of place, this could be a decent place. Unless they correct that ONE thing they're supposed to be good at, though, I can't recommend it.

Chomp is one of those Providence restaurants that I keep finding myself coming back to, even after…read moretelling myself I should probably try something else on the menu. I've eaten my way through quite a few things here over the years, and while there are plenty of good choices, I keep coming back to the Smokey and the Bandit smash burger. At this point, I probably know what I'm ordering before I even sit down. There's just something about that combination that keeps winning. The food here is consistently good. Everything I've had has been fresh, hot, and full of flavor, and the kitchen seems to have that part figured out without making a big production of it. The menu has enough variety that you can come in with different appetites and still find something you want, but it doesn't feel like one of those places with a menu the size of a small novel where you need twenty minutes just to decide what you're looking at. The beer selection is another reason I enjoy Chomp. There's enough variety to make choosing a beer part of the experience rather than simply grabbing whatever happens to be on tap. Prices are also pretty reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, which is increasingly something I notice because restaurant prices have a funny way of creeping upward when you're not paying attention. The location is another part of the appeal. Chomp sits in a great little part of Providence where you can easily make an evening out of being in the neighborhood. There are plenty of other restaurants, shops, and places to wander around nearby, so it doesn't feel like you're making a special trip just to eat and then immediately getting back in the car. Tonight, though, I have to give a special shout-out to Bella, who was our server. She was outstanding. Friendly, personable, attentive without hovering, and genuinely helpful. She suggested adding bacon to my Smokey and the Bandit, which I probably wouldn't have thought to do on my own. I'm very glad she mentioned it because it was an excellent call. Sometimes the best recommendations are the simple ones, and she nailed it. One piece of advice if you're planning on coming here: make a reservation if you can. Chomp can fill up quickly, and given how good the food is, that really shouldn't come as much of a surprise. It's the kind of restaurant where people come back because they already know they're going to have a good meal, and I'm certainly part of that group. Five stars from me. Great food, good beer, reasonable prices, a fantastic Providence location, and genuinely good service. I've tried enough of the menu over the years to know that Chomp has plenty of options, but apparently I'm still incapable of walking through the door without ordering that Smokey and the Bandit. Add Bella's bacon recommendation to the list of reasons I'm going to keep coming back.
