As a newer golfer, I prefer the experience of a Par 3 course more than a full 18. This par 3 course is a pretty decent one located centrally in the cities. The fairways are tight, though, so if you constantly slice or hook, it might not be the best place for you unless you always want to be hitting out of the adjacent hole's fairway. It's fairly well maintained for a par 3 course, easy to walk and there's beautiful nature to observe! They do take tee times online, though that isn't a bonus to me since I like being able to show up and tee off anytime. However it does let you plan ahead a bit! All in all, it isn't anything super fancy, but for a par 3 course in the cities, it's a good option. read more

Staff is great. The course is a blast and they have plenty of space to golf without it being crouded.

The course is in the worst condition I've seen in a while. I used to play 10 times a year and after one round this year I won't be going back. The prices have increased dramatically with little to no change in quality of course. They are charging $23 for half a cart fee and the greens fee is $42 (typical). The cart paths (where they have them) are in awful condition and almost dangerous. Plenty of nicer courses for way less price. read more

10/21/22: Attended a dinner reception here. It was upstairs and easily can have at least 50 people. But it starts to feel packed if you have a larger party. The pluses were free parking and nice atmosphere. The downside is no elevator, so elderly or disabled cannot go upstairs. And only 2 individual toilets. Tough for a big reception. And it was an old & dirty bathroom. read more

Reviews prior to 2018 don't seem to reflect the current course, which I played on a warm afternoon in July 2018 for the first time since I moved to Minneapolis in 2011. So why haven't I played here before? I've been here for the annual Loppet event, I've read about the skiing, I've biked around parts of it, but I never considered it ahead of all of the courses I've played elsewhere in the Twin Cities. Somehow we snagged a Sunday 11 am tee time at less than $30 per person with cart for 18 holes. There was a community triathlon event going on and racers had filled up the parking lot (inappropriately), but there didn't seem to be many golfers on the course itself. Now, this is a municipal course, and as such it isn't kept up to the standards of some of the nicer courses to the west. Even so, the greens were in good shape and some of the holes presented an interesting challenge (while some others were pretty "meh"). I decided to walk for exercise, and did just fine on the front 9, where I actually played surprisingly well given this was only my second time out for the season. My fortunes took a downward turn starting on the back 9, partly because of getting a bit tired, partly due to the unusual routing of some holes that I had never seen, and partly because golf is a 4-letter word. All in all, we enjoyed a pleasant round at a good value. The rarely saw the threesome ahead of us, and a foursome eventually caught us when we were lollygagging and looking for balls on the back 9 (we did pick up the pace at that point). Here it is late September and I haven't gotten back, but that is due more my workload than not wanting to return. This is a lovely asset for the city. read more

By far my favorite Minneapolis Parks Golf Course. It has a great mix of scenery and terrain, my friend and I came across 3 deer and a bunch of wild turkey also, pretty cool sight considering you really are close to the city. There are great views from some of the first 5 holes and although you can see the skyline quite clearly it feels like you are on a course with a lot more space. Course is great for any level golfer and has a nice mix of water, hills, mature trees and distance. Depending on the time you come it can be a slow round, I would suggest during the week before 3pm if you can manage. Buy a Value Round on Teemaster.com or a Patron Card and you can make it even more affordable. read more

Actually, this isn't for the golf course itself -- it's for the snow tubing hill. Wanna have some fun and possibly break a forearm or fibula? Throw on the long underwear, grab a thermos of coffee or hot cocoa, and head on out to Theodore Wirth, preferably at night. You're guaranteed a couple things: 1) a hoot of a time getting pulled up the hill by rope. 2) a hoot of a time flying down the hill on an inner tube and almost running over unsuspecting kids, but not quite, and biting it pretty hard when you swerve out of the way. OR watching someone else do this. 3) a chance to eat snow. 4) pink cheeks. 5) a kiss under the stars right before you head down, and you realize it leaves a spot on your cheek warm. While the 5 stars I decided to award to this golf course don't mean that it can compete with PGA world class courses, it is a gem within the Twin Cities, so put that into context. Theodore Wirth Golf course is located just a few miles west of downtown, and has some breathtaking views that will elevate the quality of your golfing experience. The back 9 are particularly scenic, so if you are only playing 9 I suggest you play these. It has a balanced combination of people walking and riding; we decided to walk and boy was it a challenge. This is a very hilly course so you will definitely get a work out of this. While the course was a bit wet as it was raining the past few days, it was however a very rewarding experience. The course is challenging with several water and shrub obstacles, so it will put your capabilities to the test. All and all, a great value for your money. read more

I'm at about a 2.5 star rating for Theo Wirth so I'll round it up to 3 stars since I'm feeling generous. Certain aspects of this course I love, such as the view from the 3rd tee (one of my favorite views of the Minneapolis skyline) and the "old" worn in feel of the course (you can tell it's been there a long time and that the course was built to fit the land, not the other way around). Certain apsects of this course I hate, such as bizarrely designed holes, very questionable service, and pace of play that can be mind-numbingly slow. The Front 9 is fairly reasonable, though Hole #4 is pointless (220 yard Par 3 with no undulation or bunkers, just long) and only serves to slow down play. The Back 9 you can tell was not really meant to house a golf course (but is a nice test for XC skiiers in the winter). Hole #10 is straight up a ski/tubing hill (another pointless hole), and hole #17 doesn't even give you an area to land your tee shot even if you hit it perfectly (the mature trees have grown out too far). Perhaps it's just that Theo Wirth doesn't fit my game, or perhaps it's because I've had to endure painfully slow play here almost every time. Whatever the case, I'm just not wowed by it (and the Back 9 is simply forgettable). Play the Front 9 sometime and take in the view on Hole #3 - that's all I'd recommend. read more

Just played Wirth yesterday (May 31,2019) and was stunned at the terrible condition of the course. Most of the damage and lousy condition can be directly attributed to a non-spring and huge amounts of rain but the course should admit to the less than playable conditions and somehow adjust the fees to play. A senior discount round with cart is just pennies under $50. AND a can of Summit beer at $8 bucks is just plain gouging the customer. This course is certainly one to avoid. read more

We played a quick round of twilight golf on the regular course at Theodore Wirth last night. We found it plenty challenging. The grounds are not kept up super well, and there is lots of tall, thick grass surrounding the fareway. I lost a number of balls, so focus on aim or be prepared to hunt for your ball in the jungle. It is a pretty course for being right outside downtown Minneapolis; some of the holes had great views of the downtown skyline. Can't argue with the twilight golf price: $14 to golf as much as you can get in before dark. We only did 9 but probably could have gotten in a couple more before sunset. read more

After the Fort Snelling disaster (see review). We were now on a hunt for a golf course! It's a 9 hole par 3 course for $11.00! Nice price for the afternoon! Don't expect to use your driver - most of the holes range from 110-160 yards. Great points of the course: *You do not need to set a tee time or come with a group - you can golf on your own *Good for beginners *No water hazards *There is a championship golf course right down the street so just pick which one you are in the mood for. For X-Skiing, this place can get packed, but if you find some room later in the day, it is awesome. I learned how to ski here for the first time this past winter and I am hooked! I do like that they have a ski lodge to warm your toes and get hot drinks and treats. After a few hours of skiing, you totally need it. What I didn't like was the fact that you do have to check in advance to make sure that there aren't any races going on. We made the mistake of trying to go another time and there was an under 16 X-skiing race. Who knew?? Later in the day and on an off-day worked fine once we figured out the system. They do have "practice" areas to learn or just hone your skills and every so often you can take a class and learn with the pros. My goal is to come here in summer and run around, but that seems like a ways off given our current Minnesota forecast. read more

Theo WIRTH-LESS round of golf. Played a round here this summer. No warning that the course was under construction. As mentioned, two holes were closed. They cut two par 5's in half and put flagsticks in the middle of the fairways so that it was still "18 holes." I didn't waste my time stopping to putt in the fairway and played through it. Several DOZEN bunkers were sunbaked mud, like a hardwood floor. Not just poorly kept, virtually every bunker on the course was under construction. When I missed the green they bounced off the mud as if it were a cart path and went flying into the woods. Even if the ball had stayed, you can't hit off of a hardwood floor. Parts of the course were ultra wet and not worth the time. I will not be returning here for years, if ever. read more

Yes, this is my neighborhood golf course, so I'm biased. It is definitely a challenging course (for my unsophisticated swing), though the greens can get a bit unreliable. Go in the spring and they're riddled with brown patches, but late fall and suddenly it's a freakin' marsh on those things. Over all, though, when it's dry it's a great course for a great price. The view from the third tee especially makes all the lost water balls and forest searches worthwhile. And though you may think 'municipal course - must be rudimentary at best,' take a cart. Dear god, take a cart. This may be Minnesota, but Sisyphus never saw this many hills. The course goes from four stars with a cart and a six pack to two stars on foot. read more

I typically play 50-75 rounds in the summer, and have played Theo Wirth a few times for work outings. This place is the epitome of a bad muni course....ill conceived holes, inconsistent greens, and poor conditions. If you are just looking for a course that's close to the city and don't care much about quality, this is the place for you. read more

I play golf, not particularly well or with much flair, but I can get around the course easily enough and I am keen to all the golf etiquette (I actually like all that aspect of the game.) Since neither my wallet nor my game qualify me to play top shelf places, I generally hit the cheaper courses which has lead me to play Theodore Wirth a couple times (played the regular course and the Par 3.) Let's just say that there isn't a lot of pride in the park's system for Teddy Wirth. The front 9 on the regular course is decent enough (just don't play a day after it rains as there is no drainage) while the back 9 is really a Mickey Mouse layout that goes has 4 holes that are either straight up a hill or straight down. The term "goat track" had to be coined here. Is it worth $30? 'Yes' if you are just looking to hit the ball around, and 'no' if you want to keep your score for your handicap. The Par 3 is worse and I think the yardage was wrong on every hole. read more

Wirth is a secret gem of a course. Tough track even for low handicappers. Greens are the best by far in Mpls system. Fast and tricky. Beautiful course with no houses near, only wild, turkeys, fox, and deer. Bring plenty of balls as Wirth will gobble them up. Trouble with water or woods on most holes. Back nine is hilly so bring your hiking legs or take a cart. Just a great course all the way around. Like I said a hidden gem! read more

So disappointed. Played 18 holes at regular price but got robbed of playing four holes. They neglected to tell us that they were redoing several holes on the back nine. To make the course 18 holes they cut two par fives in half and made them par three's. Imagine putting in the middle of what normally would be a fairway. If they decide to do something like this, at least cut done the price and let the players know what to expect! Also, don't play this course after it has rained. The course will be sloppy for there is a river that run through it. Many of the holes sit at the level of the river and if it rises it's s nearly unplayable course. I would not recommend this course to any of my friends. read more

We paid for 18 holes of golf (+cart rental), but did not make it past the 6th hole due to rude behavior. The ranger was on a complete power trip and was continuously harassing golfers to speed up their game. I will concede that I am not a golf pro, but I was definitely going at a reasonable speed. This was not a problem until the ranger circled us several times with his cart within 2 holes and berated us for our golf skills and etiquette. He made our golf experience at Wirth Golf course miserable and we were unable to enjoy our game. We spoke to the people at the clubhouse and received our full refund. Unfortunately,we did not receive much of an apology. We are very disappointed with our experience and would not recommend the course to others. read more

A wonderful public course! Have played the Theodore Wirth Golf Course on and off for about 20 years. It has always been a very picturesque, interesting, and challenging course to play. It's very hilly, an unusual characteristic for courses in the area, never dull. Views of the skyline, like on hole #3, are stunning, yet it seems like you're playing on a course up north. Hole #17 is a great golf hole that feels like you're in the wilderness. It ranks with any single golf hole in the metro area. I stopped playing Wirth about 4-5 years ago because the conditions of the greens and fairways were terrible -- NOT any more. The greens are in terrific shape. They roll true, look great, and are quick. The fairways are lush, very green, and provide a good foundation for iron shots. The cart paths need some work, but, aside from that, the course is a joy. Playing early in the morning on a week day, 3 of us were able to finish our round in about 3 hours. Wirth, along with Baker, in my opinion, are the two best public courses in the area. read more
