This was my second time at Braemar & it went fairly well! The course itself is beautiful; I'm not a golfer by any means, so their 9 hole par 3 course is perfect. The staff we interacted with were very helpful, there were a large number of golf carts & hand carts for rental. The pace was kept pretty well, we had only one group play though & the folks behind them didn't need to. All in all, this course is lovely & is a nice way to spend an afternoon! read more

First time here. Nice place to visit the driving range. The staff were friendly and attentive. The ball machine was easy to use, although be sure to put your basket close to the dispenser -- about 5 balls didn't go in the basket and had to chase after them! Even though it looked like a lot of spots available, it was so busy at the time I was ready to go that I needed to wait for someone to leave. Also, someone almost took a spot nearby that was occupied when that person went to buy another bucket of balls -- even with their golf bag still on the grass at their spot! read more

My first time golfing here. It's usually hard to get on as it's a well maintained public course and a short drive in the city. I thought it was beautiful. We were paired with a very nice couple which made the round pleasant. The tee boxes are labeled E-D-I-N-A and I played the 'A'. It was a shorter than I normally play but that was ok because I don't hit the ball very long. The last hole was a par 4 142yds which is extremely short. Total yardage was around 4900yds. Tee boxes and greens were in great shape. Staff was friendly. They were running out of carts in the afternoon and running them up to the first tee box from 18 in some instances. Back nine was harder than front with more water and targeted play. It was a great place to play. read more

This public golf course in Edina has plenty of parking spots and looks well maintained when you first arrive. The clubhouse is conveniently located next to the carts and staff are very friendly and helpful upon checking in. We played the back 9, where a starter checked you in physically and provided good instructions before you tee time. They didn't bunch up groups that other courses do and the pace was perfect, never saw the group in front or behind us. The course is really well maintained and some of the holes were very challenging based on your selected level of skill. This course superceded my expectations and the early start worked well, defying the higher temperatures and humidity. Overall, a nicely maintained golf course and I will be returning again, when in the Minneapolis area. read more

What a great place!! Nice facility, extremely friendly staff, and there is a walk-up bar with a variety of options, all tall cans. It is a dome with multiple levels of hitting bays. If you're going with someone, I would recommend sharing a bay, because you won't be able to link the TVs together if you were playing virtual golf. If you going just to practice, single bays would be adequate. Each bay had readily available buckets of balls, AND they have a selection of tee w/ different heights to accommodate however you setup your ball. Very enjoyable time and will go back. read more

This is a solid choice for a municipal course. There are 3 9 hole courses (one is members only) and then an executive course. The conditions are the typical muni - not super lush but decent. The pro shop is nice, and the course if very forgiving without too much sand or water. Makes for a good weekend warrior course (except it gets crowded on weekends) The driving range has synthetic mats which is too bad - I don't like to take my practice unless it is on real grass. There is however a nice chipping green and nice putting green. read more

I needed to tune up before a scramble tournament with some work friends and hadn't played I way too long. I went to the driving range a couple of times and hit enough to have fun at the scramble! It was affordable, folks were welcoming, and it was an easy process even though I hadn't been to the course before. Recommended!! read more

Great convenient spot for a public golf course and the grounds are well taken care of. I really like coming to the driving range here because there a ton of space and people aren't up tight about new golfers getting in the way. This is also the perfect place for new golfers to play on the par 3 course. Lots of families and kids learning to play so it's a safe environment for beginners. read more

Played here on September 24 and the course was in great shape. Course gets heavy play so greens aren't very fast but they rolled true today. Has a large range and huge putting practice green. They have a nice meeting and banquet area and I've hosted presentations. read more

I wouldn't come back to this course if someone paid me to. I can't believe how rude the staff was today. If you plan on golfing here you better not be a minute behind pace. We waited on almost every hole for the group in front of us. When we got to Hole 16 we were berated by the ranger for playing slow golf. When we tried to explain how we have waited on every hole he wouldn't listen. We then finished and got back to the clubhouse to find the ranger and another worker waiting for us. They preceded to tell us again how slow we were and when we tried to tell them what happened I was told to F$&% off by the ranger!!!!!! I tried to explain this to the manger but was told he never said that and I was basically called a liar. NEVER golf this course or give them your money! read more

I am not a huge golf guy, but I am taking group beginner lessons here right now to learn the basics of the game so that I can play with coworkers and family on occasion. It is a pretty good deal- $99 for 5 weeks of one-hour lessons. They are flexible with scheduling- if you can't make one day you can show up at another class if you call in advance. The lady who teaches my section (Debbie) is really kind and patient, and gives good practical advice. After you complete the course you can take a 3 session mini course for $10 that gets you out playing an actual round with a mentor. So all in all the best deal I could find for golf lessons in the Twin Cities. read more

I arrived in Minn, from Costa Mesa, Ca, to Minn, then down to Fort Dodge for a Funeral back to Minn, for another funeral at Fort Snelling, which was the surprise, stayed at a hotel near Mall of America, looked for place to Golf, found Braemar GC, it was close by, even the Hotel knew it was a great course to play, no clubs, so I rented, it was so beautifully green, challenging hills, long and I didn't lose my ball! On the 18th hole. , what a beautiful view of the course from 18th, I might add! I caught up with a Father /Son, who allowed me to play the final hole with them, great guys, we were playing the blues. I said I am going to hit my ball over the stream, they laughed at me and said "only the pros hit that shot". I said let's see, they added, "if you can get it over the stream, even plug it, we will give it to you". I said deal, if not, I take penalty's, lost ball! We all laughed, agreed, they laid up, now my turn. Swing, straight, slight draw to the left, what looked liked it was short, their reaction was classic, yelling and exclaiming their surprise I hit it so long, (slightly embarrassed). We get to about 25 yds from the stream, we find theirs, but mine wasn't to be found, at first. Then the Son remembered, if plugged, it was a free drop, within the five minute rule, He went to the other side over the bridge, about fifty feet away, there was my ball plugged, in the cut grass, over the stream! Btw I birdied that hole for an 81. I use TaylorMade, that day the clubs were Ping and will always have a fondness for them. Btw I lived in Bloomington for about 7 months, got fired, went back to Calif and spent 32 years with AT&T. Winning 5 best ball tournaments, including most improved player, hdcp from a 25 to 11.5 in one year. I too! am surprised this course isn't 4.5 Star course. This I hope to be in Edina, by end of March for a reunion of sorts. read more

Great golf course! Beautiful landscaping, challenging, and pristine. It's very rolly and hilly. Coming from Chicago where everything is flat, this was a welcomed change. The greens played fast the day that I was there. Loved the tee on the top of a hill! I landed straight on the green! For a public course this is an excellent option. You always have to deal with the slow play of average golfers but you will find a course that is relatively well-maintained, decent whole placement and enjoy the vertical movement the course. This last time I went, I was looking for a new driver and three wood. Was happy to find that they do demo clubs which I was surprised to see for a public course. Overall, recommend as an average priced, decently maintained course. read more

Staff came around the the course and stopped and accused our group of slow play. Stopped me, I should say, being the only Black player, he stopped me after the other 3 White players walked away so I could hit my ball. We had just let a player through that was by himself and low and behold he was behind us again. Maybe that's why I don't ever remember seeing another Black golfer there! This happened a season or two ago and I did try the course again this season without harassment but there are too many other courses around that I'm sure are friendlier toward minority players on their golf course. I've played it a few times before this incident and have never seen another minority, maybe that's why? read more

While Minnesota is not particularly short on wonderful golf courses, I will always have a soft spot for Braemar. With the amount of time I spent at the driving range and playing the occasional rounds (when so and so's dad was paying) coupled with the constant baseball tournaments just up the road, I can easily say I spent a large part of my freetime at Braemar. It's definitely a pricier course, but then, not much in Edina comes with an inexpensive pricetag, and the layout and amenities made it worth it (again, I don't think I ever actually paid). The most memorable moment we experienced would have to be when we rolled the golf cart on the hole that has the really steep hill that pretty specifically instructs you not to drive straight down it. Luckily for us, we were *sshole kids from Edina and didn't follow directions gud. Lots of good times and memories here. I think we played golf sometimes too... I want to like this golf course, but after playing it at least half a dozen times, my frustration levels are going no where but down. The roughs are over grown and thick. This kind of rough does not belong on a public golf course. Losing golf balls, plugging away to get get back into the fairway with two or three shots is a joke. I typically play 18 holes in the mid-80's. Braemar is currently set up for a private course challenge. This course doesn't give players a fighting chance. To have that much frustrations after dropping $62, makes me want to never return. I'm happy to drive an additional 15min to play a public course that keeps a round of golf, fun. read more

I wanted to try golfing...and my friend suggested that we meet at the driving range at Braemar to hit a few balls and try this golfing thing out. It was quite the experience. First off-no one else had the Target special golf clubs that I had (but hey, that is what makes me unique, right?!?!) and I quickly learned that golf is a much more quiet sport than I thought. Overall, the staff was really friendly and the location was wonderful. Prices are a little steep for a beginner, but I consider them not too out-of-line in relationship to the location and maintenance requirements of the pristine grounds. Overall, it was a great place to start and I look forward to trying golfing out again soon. read more

What happened to the trees? Most boring course I have ever played. You could land a small plane on the greens - they are huge as are the fairways, which take away any challenge. Greens are in poor shape as are most fairways near the green ... like hitting off pavement. Course is poorly marked. Rough is too long, forcing punch outs rather than giving you a chance at the green. Is that gravel in the sand traps? The traps get watered along with the grass ... making for more of a concrete trap rather than a sand trap. Driving range is nicely set up but the grass around the practice chipping greens is cut so short it is like chipping off pavement (At least it's realistic to what you get on the course). The local girls and boys golf teams practice at the same time ... in the spring it was not uncommon to have 75 - 100 people on the practice putting green - horrible. They ruined a great course - what a waste. read more

They used to have 27 holes and most people didn't like the "new nine" (holes 19-27)...so they remodeled and went back to a standard 18 holes. With all that land to work with, they still couldn't come up with a decent layout. They should have just closed the "new" nine and called it a day because the original 18 was fine, whereas this was a waste of money. The front nine is fine, fairly benign and quite walkable. The back nine is sloped between 10 and 22 points harder depending on the tee, so it is not a consistent 18 hole experience unless you change the set of tees you play from (at least there are six choices). The back nine has some very long carries and ridiculously steep hills making it difficult to walk, especially when most others take carts. Definitely not worth $52 (18 holes, walking); unless you happen to land near a sprinkler head, good luck finding a yardage marker. There isn't even GPS on the carts--I guess you're supposed to download an app. If I go back it will only be to play the front nine. At least the driving range is still good. read more

They over booked the course and had two groups waiting in front of us at the turn. Even the course ranger was telling us that they couldn't properly manage the golfers. Didn't help that we also had a prick golfer behind us that they wouldn't kick off. read more

Course is a typical municipal course, with mediocre greens, fairways and toughs are usually in check, par 3 tee boxes and get a little cut up and could be maintained better. With being in the middle of the metro they can get away with charging higher prices than the course is worth for a round of 18, however the convenience factor is worth a price. Decent practice areas. Overall, course is decent, can get slow on the weekends because they tend to over book. read more
