    Early morning on Tee #1
    Michael K.

Since my 2016 review, I worked at PCGC for two summers (2019 & Pandemic 2020). Consequently, I've probably played the course over 200 times. Even though I decided to stop working and focus on a full retirement, I still play the course 20-30 times a season. The greens continue to be a high point of the course. They are fast and true, although they can get a bit hard when things dry out mid-summer. The grounds crew has culled a lot of major and minor trees the past two winters, gradually opening up sight lines to create more of a links-style course as well as speed up play. The city folk who venture this far west are always pleasantly surprised by the track and the challenge, despite the drive (about 15 minutes west from the I-494/I-394/US-12 interchange)...get off on Watertown Road when you see the brown Pioneer Creek Golf Course sign, and watch out for speed traps along the way!

Fun course, it's great shape. Fairly easy to get good tee times if you book enough in advance

We golfed here for the first time with some friends who are in a league here! The price for a cart…read moreon a weekend was pretty reasonable and comparable to other courses of this level. The greens were pretty well kept and the tee boxes were in decent shape as well. For an ~$50 course to ride, the quality was aligned with the cost. It's *mostly* walkable but there's a few very steep paved paths you need to walk up and down so definitely be aware of that before committing to walk! The driving range isn't great, it's an unkept field that borders the overflow parking without a net so it definitely doesn't offer any protection from shanks! I definitely wouldn't park my car bordering the driving range! Everyone working in the clubhouse was knowledgeable and friendly. They have two greens on one of the holes and the woman working was very helpful in explaining how to play for our first time.

I like to try out new courses that are a little bit of a drive. You never know what you will discover. Timber Creek overall was a nice playing experience - inexpensive green fees and refreshments, easy to get on, well maintained. The clubhouse is a little basic. The driving range is very nice - grass tees. It is walkable except for a few huff and puff hills on each 9. There are an average amount of water hazards; some of the fairways were squishy from recent rain in the lower areas. There are a couple of blind shots off the tee so you need a gps or score card from the course (vs keeping score on your phone app). There is one series of holes I think 12/13/14 that are not as well designed - sortof forced into the space. Other than that, a nice layout worth a try.

Windsong Farm Golf Club - The long prairie grass makes for a lovely setting but a tough shot!

I had the unique opportunity to play the private Windsong Farm course on a cool, breezy October…read moreafternoon with several others new to the course. We knew that the layout would prove to be challenging, so we split into two-man scramble teams to try to keep things moving. It had rained the prior evening, so carts were not allowed even though the course appeared to have drained quite well. The upside is that pulling our bags behind us gave us a modicum of warmth on a borderline playing day. As it should be for a 5-star review, I encountered no significant issues -- frustrating golf challenges certainly, but no issues that dampened my experience (besides the gusting wind on the long Par 3 16th over water, but what a great challenge!). First of all, there are a lot of bunkers on this course (over 70 from what I could count on Google Maps). Most of these are deep-sided with long grass curling around the edges. Drive your ball into one of the fairway bunkers and you'll likely have to come out sideways. The sand is very fine, and even though it was a bit wet during our round, it was very consistent and a lot easier to extricate oneself than the hardpan on some of the munis in the area (don't ask why we were hitting from the sand when we were playing a 2-man scramble!). Secondly, the long prairie grass that lines most fairways was turning stunning shades of tan, purple and red. Really pretty and relaxing as long as you didn't hit into it (in which case don't even try to find your ball). Thirdly, despite the lack of trees and limited over-water carries, you'd better hit a long straight ball if you hope to even bogey some of the longer par 4's. As a bogey golfer, I felt very good if I could scramble to bogey from the Sand tees, and if I had been playing my own ball those would have been the exception scores. Outside of the 16th, Par 3 holes were fairly easy. I actually played the long Par 5's quite well for some reason, but there is a lot of trouble to be found. We had a great outing and really appreciated the opportunity. Interaction with course staff was limited to a short conversation in the small-ish but nicely appointed Pro Shop. Members will have to provide reviews on other aspects of the club, but I would certainly consider joining if I played enough golf in retirement to justify membership. So, how did we score you ask? 5-over on the Front and 6-over on the Back as the wind picked up and our senior bodies tired. Not too bad for not knowing the course or having any sort of rangefinder. If there's a next time I will play my own ball to see how I do!

Abby worked with us through the entire process, giving us suggestions for everything we didn't know about. She is so knowledgeable about everything we could have possibly needed. When we would come to her with a crazy idea we had, instead of telling us all the reasons why it couldn't happen, she talked about the different ways we could accomplish it! In the time leading up to the wedding, Abby was constantly checking in with us making sure we had everything we needed for our special day. When the wedding day came, everything was perfect. Everything was set up exactly how Abby and I had discussed. We had a brunch themed wedding and the food was absolutely delicious! The waitstaff and bartenders were exceptional. They anticipated the needs we were having but were never in the way. The weather was gorgeous! Abby suggested opening a door to the deck area so guests could be outside and inside. It was one of the best decisions we made for the night. Our guests were able to enjoy the first 72-degree spring day we were having in Minnesota with the beautiful views of the golf course in the background. The whole reception went off without a hitch! Our wedding day was perfect. My husband and I stopped looking at other venues options the second we found Burl Oaks. If you are looking for a place to have your wedding or event, stop. You've found it! I would highly recommend Burl Oaks to all my friends and family!
