I used to be a fan. In fact, in one month recently, I bought almost $1K worth of products. Unfortunately, their customer service is awful. An employee helped me to the car with some heavy stuff. In loading my purchases into the trunk, she ripped out the wires to the backup camera. I said immediately to her, "Hey, you just broke my backup camera." She said a quick, "Sorry" and trotted back to the store at closing time. I called in to the management immediately upon getting home. The video apparently told the managers which employee it was. I had to return twice to have two separate managers look at it. I was told that I had to get two estimates for repair--a bit of a hassle, but I did it. Both estimates were hundreds of dollars. The managers offered me a $50 gift certificate. I turned it down. I am shocked that this company has such poor customer service. I will probably have to file in small claims court. read more

This is the 3rd time I have tried to purchase a gun at this store. And every-time I could not because of something. It was not because of me. Every single time they would not even fill out the paperwork. 1st time they did not have anyone working to sign the paperwork. This happened two years ago. Last year I forget the excuse but it was something. Tonight it was too late to fill out the paperwork. I am done with this place. The service is always terrible not just once but continues to be. I arrive at the gun counter at 7:35. If you wanted to stop serving customers at that time then why not close at 7:35. The paperwork would have taken 10 to 15 minutes. I have filled out the forms before. I am a former employee of the Coralville location and if I had provided as bad of service to any customer I would have lost my job and rightfully so. Jacob is the manger in Coralville and his customer service is excellent. I will drive to Indianola or to any store before setting foot in this location again. I can understand once maybe twice but three times. Done. I hope this review finds it's way to someone who can turn this store around. read more

A great multipurpose outlet type store with apparel, pet necessities, home decor, office supplies, cookware, toiletries, and countless more! I can easily walk in here and spend an entire paycheck, it's terrible. There are SOOOO many necessities in this store and the prices are pretty fair and it's nice quality. If you're an outdoorsy person or into country living, Theisen's is your sanctuary. Seriously, there's at least ten things in this store everyone needs, even if you ain't 'bout that country life. read more

Theisen's is a really cool Farm and Home store. I wandered through here for a long time, just marveling at the selection of hardware, pet care, home repair, outdoor and other items. I ended up with an Iowa Hawkeye lunch box, but wish I would have bought the Muck Boots for an upcoming Earthwatch trip. The folks at checkout were super nice and the next time I'm in, I'll try to leave room in my suitcase so I can take more or their practical and well priced stuff home. read more

To the uninitiated, a farm and home store like Theisen's makes no sense. What are some of the things I have purchased over the years? Dog food and toys. Children's shoes. Men's trousers. Popcorn. Oh wait, the popcorn is free. Candy. ISU logo merchandise. Tools. Paint. Hats. The list goes on and on, seemingly randomly. Ames doesn't seem to be a natural choice for such a store. Too urban and educated, you know. But I'm so happy Theisen's decided to locate here. Whenever I'm in Ames, Theisen's is on the list of essential visits right next to Hickory Park, Dutch Oven Bakery and Mucky Duck Pub. Theisen's has a vast array of merchandise. So tired of the drama at the ONE checkout lane they invariably have open. More often then not there's a price check or some other reason the line comes to a screeching halt. As I went back through the store returning the items to the shelf I wasn't going to buy, I saw a bunch of employees doing nothing that could have been manning a checkout. This is a great farm and home store. There's so much to choose from here from clothing, hunting, home supplies and pet care items. We do most of our shopping here on behalf of our pets. Theisen's carries a really good selection of high quality pet foods and treats, and is one of the best places to buy pet foods and snacks in the area. My wife and I are very picky about purchasing food and snacks for our three dogs and cat and will only purchase "Made in the USA" items. Theisen's has this covered. While their inventory covers many price points, countries of origin and qualities they have consistently have ample things for us to choose from at a competitive price. read more

nice little farm improvement store (if you have to ask...) that is conveniently located near to work but no so much to the house. good selection of western-style work boots in sizes from 'too small' through 'just right' all the way up to 'too big'. similar situations for cold weather garb and work shirts. as expected there is a good selection of tools and vehicle maintenance products (arc welder -to- zip ties, mini-bikes -to- max tractors), pet and animal feeds and accessories, lawn care products and implements, yard decorations, and all manner of household miscellany. smallish but effective selection of trees, veggies, mulch and garden additives. (they had what I needed so yea for me!) If you don't know what you want they've probably got it, and there's free fresh popcorn to munch while you make up your mind. read more

I'd never been and we were just passing through but it seemed like a pretty cool place. We got wiper fluid and windshield wipers - both much less expensive than the pit stop across the street. I wish we'd of had more time to browse around. It was big and full of interesting things. read more

This is my favorite place to pick up yard care , bird feed, and equestrian items, very convenient. They have a nice selection of nostalgic snacks. The staff is knowledgeable and extremely helpful. In the spring they have a small selection of chicks and start-up classes for "backyard farmers " read more

I did never receive my order and I did never my money back. Those rats charge me 2 times. I have 2 weeks waiting my money back.

On their website: "We strive to meet our customers' [...] needs by [...] with exceptional service" On Nov 30th I ordered boots online. On Dec 2nd I received a cancellation notice w/no adtl information. When I reached out, I was advised that, at the time of shipping, only ONE boot (singular) in the size needed was available. It was also suggested I check back in January, which I did. On Feb 23rd finally had the product/size needed was in stock. I called to order so I could get a price match on the pair originally sold to me, as suggested by the employee I spoke w/on Dec 2, but I was told that in lieu of a price match, they would offer a 10% discount & free shipping. That's a $50 increase in purchase! For THEIR mistake!! I live w/in 5 minutes of Cavenders and 30 minutes of Atwoods. Had the website been correct or I had been notified of the error faster, I could have purchased boots from either of those places and still taken advantage of holiday pricing. I appreciate the discount, but really if I'm going to pay that much, I'd prefer to purchase from a place that appreciates my business & patience. As a bonus, by purchasing local I don't have to worry about "free shipping." Had I known this is how they rate customer service, I would have already purchased elsewhere. The poor customer service shown by upper management doesn't appear to be worth the expense of the product, not even at the holiday price. read more

Cade and Colton in the tire center really helped us out. We're head to Arizona and noticed a sound coming from our front tires. Cade diagnosed the issue as a misalignment. They don't carry our tires. They were able to rotate them so we can get home. I'm thankful for people like this. Thank you. read more

I called ahead to see if they had the tires i needed in stock. I was on hold until the woman that had initially answered came back and asked why I had called again. I told her I was looking to get some tires. She put me on hold a short time and the tire and service guy picked up. I ran the tire size by him he said that they had them in stock and told me how much it would cost to put them on. I set up an appointment, went to check in and "we don't have those in stock". Me: "I called earlier to make sure and, you said you did."...Him "Well We don't." The guy came off as an arrogant jerk, not even a "sorry you drove out here for nothing." What a waste of my time, and crappy customer service.... I won't go back unless I have to. read more
