Made an appointment for an oil change and it took him two hours. I was told there was three cars ahead of me and I asked him why then did I have to make an appointment. The manager said to me that he cannot help that he had other cars in front of me. And then I said what is the point of making an appointment if you can't hold the appointment. So I go to return the Great Value Brand Product of Thailand Whole Kernel Corn that the warning label says has lead in it (I don't want to eat lead in my food), and of course the non Service Counter doesn't open until 7 am. Though someone watching on camera did sneak out to take the can off the counter I noticed when I was leaving. I always give that store a '1' at the self checkout for the "How Was My Experience?" One reason is the store manager doesn't want people using the small shopping carts so he hides them around the side of the building. read more

Well well well. My Minnesotan blood was so loyal to target until I got to college and everyone in the state of Iowa rubbed off on me. I now love Walmart! I mean, this place has everything!! I often go here multiple times a day because I let Walmart tell me what I want. I've never done store pickup but I hear that's also popular! They have affordable snacks so I always go here before I show up at social events. I own multiple pairs of Walmart sweatpants and joggers and get so many compliments on them. This location in Ames is ideal too because it's by everything else so it's not inconvenient to swing by when I'm on my way to somewhere else. My favorite thing is I just found out I can use my Sam's Club gift card here too! read more

Great selection. Thanks for the large Asian population at ISU, it was fine grocery shopping for my half-Asian college freshman. Besides food, I picked up several items from the beauty and pharmacy area. It was crazy busy because everyone was moving into the dorms, but check-out went smoothly and the service was pleasant. Good prices as usual. Some of the furniture items were not as well designed, so I passed on those. read more

This review is about the tire/battery service center of the Walmart Supercenter only. I don't remember having any problems with any other part of this store. First, those of you who are homeless, living in your car, don't even consider going here to get service. Honda is very respectful no matter who you are or where you live, go to them. The first time I got new tires at this store, they broke one of the tire pressure monitoring devices on my tires. And claimed that I came in with it broken. I had never seen that light on the dash before service with them, but as I later found out, reading reviews of other Walmart service centers, they tend to break them alot and refuse to replace them. Apparently, it's a $70 fix. If you break it, please take responsibility and fix it! read more

I have no clue why such a small town has two Walmarts. The SmartStyle hair salon is decent and actually knows how to do African American hair, well at least two of the white girls do. I've only had Brittany in my hair and can vouch she can do hair quite well, I won't go to any other non Black woman in town. The deli area has daily specials and the McDonald's is speedy. For a small town WalMart they do fairly well. The managers are also kind and caring, and the cashiers are often college students who surprisingly have a positive attitude. read more

Obnoxious wait time for them to stand around up front chatting until it's time for someone to leave. Rather than doing anythIng to fix the tire or care, they try to charge obnoxious amounts. You know, it's tough to appreciate a Super WalMart of the scale that it is in Ames when you are actually from the Midwest. Why? Well, in the Midwest, I have found, there is one on every corner. For that reason you have about another 10 locations (literally) within a 20 mile driving distance to compare it to. The fact that a small city like Ames (yes people, Ames is pretty small lol) can support two of these beasts is amazing. Coming originally from CA which, to my knowledge, have no Super WalMarts, this place was a godsend. Everything available in one place. Produce is usually pretty decent, and shelves are pretty well stocked. Do you get those special Wal Mart employees? You bet, but you get those at every Wal Mart. Cheap labor means cheaper prices, and the latter is why people come here. Having recently moved to MA, while there are super WalMarts, they don't hold a candle to this Ames (or really any other central IA) location. Dirty, poorly stocked, almost no employees around to help you. Honestly, you Ames folk don't know how stinking good you have it, and I mean that. The simple fact that you have a 24-hour store is awesome! Thank your lucky stars. You have one of the better Wal-Marts in the nation, even though you may not think it is one of the better locations in your area. read more

They call this a Wal-Mart Tire & Lube Express. They should just call it Wal-Mart Tire & Lube. The whole concept is to come in here with your car and have them perform routine maintenance while you shop. It's a solid idea, but I spend three hours wandering aimlessly in a Wal-Mart store. I've taken my car here for oil changes the last 3 times I've needed them so I would be able to do small errands instead of waiting 30 minutes in the lobby of the Jiffy Lube. I save a couple of bucks, but it takes forever. You'll spend 15-20 minutes loitering in their Tire & Lube area looking in to the faces of similarly confused people as the sole attendant disappears in to the garage for long periods of time. I'll spend another $5 somewhere else to get in and get on with the rest of my life. read more

I was with a friend at Walmart on S Duff this morning at about 830 to redeem their cans and plastic bottles. Only two of the many can redemption machines worked.. one of the two kept malfunctioning. My friend went to customer service to let them know the can/glass/plastic redemption machines were full.. they said the would send someone we waited 15 minutes.. in the mean time the only working machine became full. We went to the customer service counter and they made us count them by hand.. there over 100 cans + bottles! This is wrong!! They have the machines they need to have someone working in that area! .. this Walmart is less than customer helpful... read more

Walmart has gone way downhill since I worked there. They have gotten bigger, but offer less including service. It is sad. There used to be a sense of pride in one's work, but not here. They could care less about showing you where an item can be found, stocking shelves is unheard of and they us if they even order the items for inventory. read more

I was here yesterday looking for some school supplies, and to be honest was fairly worried about finding what I needed. When I got there the section was amazingly organized and well stocked. I was greeted by an employee named Jeff, who was super polite and helpful. He helped me find what I called a "circle drawing angle thingie" as I had forgotten the name. I have decided today that I can start avoiding this store, there is enough competition around that I don't need to shop here. The older cashiers are very rude and argumentative, I am not talking about just one instance, there have been many. I am middle-aged myself and don't need to be treated like I am beneath them. I have spent thousands of dollars here and put up with them long enough! I have even seen the older ones scolding children in front of their parents, that is over stepping the line! The quality of frame is very bad. Within a year, the center of frame is broken, and after 18 months the side of frame gives away. I had many pairs of frames before, none of them are so weak like the one from Walmart vision center. There are many other vision centers in Ames, Iowa. Never use Walmart again. read more

I have never in my life left a review let alone a negative review. I go to Walmart for almost everything. It's easy, convenient, and they have just about everything I need. I WILL NOT, however EVER buy alcohol from there again. I was in line and the couple in front of me were also buying alcohol. Husband and wife. She refused to sell to them because the wife's ID was expired by a few days. It then came to me. I had my ID out and ready and she looks at me and says "I'm going to need both your IDs" I looked at her and said "we aren't even together why do you need her ID??" The reply I get was "well you have been talking in line, i don't know that you aren't together". Are you kidding me?! You can't even talk to someone in line without being accused of being "together" please. Yes I knew the girl I was talking to, but we were NOT together. She bought her own stuff and I bought mine. We both ended up giving her our IDs soho could buy my alcohol and she spends 5 minutes looking at them both. Great, get on with it. Instead of typing in MY birthdate because IM the one buying, she types in the OTHER persons information. How does this make sense? I will never EVER DO ANYTHING WITH THEM AGAIN. The auto center is understaffed. They had two or three 'kids' working the day I took my car in for what I had hoped was a quick oil change. The cashier changed my oil, answered phones, and helped other customers. A basic oil change took 90 minutes. I felt sorry for her, she had grease on her dress slacks. This Walmart is one of the cleanest Walmart stores I have ever been to. The Pharmacy is excellent. They fill prescriptions in a timely manner. All the staff is very helpful. This is my favorite Walmart in the country, as I currently reside in Maryland. read more
