The Reuben is awesome! Plenty of corned beef and not so much sauerkraut as to overpower the sandwich. Tried the local Rochester Red and it was very good as well. There's not a whole lot in Concourse B but this place is a gem! I'll be back when I'm passing through. read more

Stuck at the airport for a flight delay, I found myself not terribly hungry but knowing it could be hours before I got home. I saw the Wendy's across the hall and thought "no, I probably shouldn't" and then looked at the menu posted outside Thee Irish Pub. Thinking I should actually have a meal, I went in, sat at a high top table and awaited my lunch. A breast of chicken that was cooked so long it was hard, and those plastic knives just don't cut it (pun intended). For the same $12.50, I could have had some Wendy's and a snack elsewhere. read more

This place had a nice ample bar area, right at the end of the B gates, and beggining of C down from Wendy's. The staff was a shit show. Yelling and complaining, and forgetting orders, should I expect more from an airport bar? I only got a drink, and that took ten minutes to get, didn't trust them with a food order, especially when I saw the kitchen staff fighting when I walked in (IE, yelling loudly at each other about discrepencies). For this side of the airport though, it's the best bar you'll find. **To be warned, they use cheaters to measure their hard alcohol, so you will literally get ONE ounce, no more, no less, and when they ask to upsize your drink, it's an extra half shot, NOT a double. read more

Who doesn't love a place where it could be St. Pattys day every day! I have the pleasure of stopping in while on a layover on a flight home from overseas. I wasn't in the mood for anything in particular, but was very excited to see all the Guinness themed dishes available. Daddy loves his goodness so this was my type of spot. I ended up sampling the pretzels with Guinness infused cheese dip. 4 large pretzels we're at my disposal and ended up exactly where they should, in my belly! The ambience here is exactly what you'd expect in an airport Pub. The Irish theme runs fairly deep through the menu and the folks here are very jolly and happy to help you. Since I didn't have anything else other than pretzels, I can't comment on the different main dishes that were available. I will say however that they all looked very good and the number of folks ordered the shepherd's pie. If you find yourself in the Detroit Airport this is a definite spot to stop. Unbelievably slow service. The manager is abrupt and boarder info on rude. The bar tender is a gravely obnoxious and rude. The food is mediocre, not like food from Ireland at all. It's not even good American food. It's greasy, undercooked and more than once my God has come out like tonight, cold. They can't even poor a Guinness properly. The B and C concourses are really one concourse yet when dozens of flights are delayed leaving out of C, they also closed as soon as the last flight on B started to board. read more

I've got to admit that Thee Irish Pub is a pretty good deal for an airport pub. This is the second time I've been here and both times have been given good service, good beer and pretty good food. Ordered the Corned Beef Ruben and asked for the 1000 island dressing on the side because I don't like it but the girl friend does. They accommodated us with no problem which is nice for an airport pub. Beer was good - not much of a surprise there, but they did have a good selection to choose from. Guinness, Sam Adams, etc... Food - Ruben was delicious... Malted chips were pretty good. Malted vinegar was awaiting us at the table which is always nice. Next time I'm stuck in the Detroit Airport (god help me) I'll definitely not hesitate to give Thee Irish Pub my business. read more

Only constant, Thee Irish Pub and it's luxurious padded bench seating (only place to sprawl out in this airport, "passed out girlfriend who can't sleep on planes" gives it 5-stars), the service of Irish coffee at unGODly early hours, and a half decent Irish breakfast. Plus are by the register and three pronged, but you'll have to put your roller bag over there as there is nothing to rest your (phone/laptop/kindle/iPad/dvd-player) on. Great service too. read more

I'm not gonna lie this is not bad at all for airport grub. Granted I ate brunch here and didn't drink at all so maybe my experience was different than others'. I got the corned beef hash that came with corned beef, two eggs over easy, and 2 pieces of toast. All of it was very reasonable quality and hit the spot for what I wanted before getting on my flight - oh and only ~$8. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips for ~$14 I think. We were a little peeved that the fries were extra and didn't automatically come with the fish for $14 but the fried fish itself was pretty good. $14 good? Probably not. Overall definitely better than the Wendys and Subway options that were available and not too shabby for airport food! read more

This will teach me to not read the reviews before selecting a place. As others have said, skip it and go to Wendy's. I had the Guinness grilled chicken sandwich. It came without any condiments, contrary to the menu which said it came with Guinness mustard. I asked the server and she told me they don't usually put anything on it. I asked for the special mustard - which wasn't that special. It came with chips that were clearly cooked in house - a number of them were still uncooked potato. The wife had the fish and chips. (A) we just came back from a week in New Orleans, and this was the greasiest thing she's eaten in all that time. (B) in this case, when they say chips, that's what they mean. No French fries with this meal, but the same chips I had. Even though the menu said they were special malt vinegar chips - again, nothing special here. read more

I've eaten at just about every restaurant at DTW over the years. The Irish Pub is my place for a great breakfast. My favorite is a bagel with bacon, sausage, egg, and cheese. Sometimes I get oatmeal or home fries with it. The ingredients are very good ... It's not a real pub and it doesn't serve real Irish food, but Thee Irish Pub is decent enough to get you through the airport. For a quick dinner during my recent layover, I had a cup of fruit and a wheel of brie. The waitress was very fast and naturally had a hurried demeanor as she rushed to get folks in and out before flights. My fruit came out first in a plastic tray and contained canteloupe, seedless grapes, honeydew and pineapple. The fruit was pretty juicy and sweet. I have no idea if the folks in the back chopped the fruit themselves, but it tasted fresher than the fruit cups you can grab from, say, Au Bon Pain. My brie came out a few minutes later on a plastic plate. The plastic for this kind of threw me off. I guess they serve everything on plasticware and with plastic utensils so you can take it onto your flight, but I felt strange using a very lightweight knife to smear my brie. In any case, there was plenty of food. The brie was a standard 4-inch wheel in the center of some salad greens and surrounded by four rye and wheat bread pieces. The brie came out warm (likely nuked) and the top was creamy, but the center was pretty cold. The bread was basic and tasty enough. I ate the greens as salad but didn't use the *insertfruittype* chutney that came with it all. I don't drink, so I can't comment on what's on tap. I was happy for a decent, quick airport dinner for about $10. Vegetarians beware: There's not a ton here, but you'll see the cheese and veggie burger. No idea if it's true veggie or fake meat, though. read more

I was at the airport on a layover and while I was stepping off my plane I realized that it had been 39 years since I was in that airport. I remember my dad bringing me there to look at planes back in those crazy innocent days when you could go to the gates if you were not traveling. I remember a pilot let me come on to look around, it was a Delta plane, that was so cool. So I am walking through terminal A and thinking this is no ordinary airport, this is a Fracking Space Airport! The indoor tram, all of the signage in Japanese -- it is like Blade Runner or Serenity or something from The Future. Getting to terminal C was a bit of a disappointment -- at least at ORD the super long tunnel to the distant terminal has funky lights and space sounds. Anyway, I get to C and am looking for lunch in The Present and can choose between Wendy's and Thee Irish Pub. Note to self: start a list of airport so-called pubs. Food-wise it was what you would expect, a good selection of eats gesturing toward Irish. I had a passable chicken breast sandwich, a pint of Guinness, and some pub fries. The staff was friendly, though I did get to overhear a lot of conversation. I didn't like that it was served in plastic baskets on paper. No dishwashing facilities I guess. $23 for lunch and a drink. Now to be fair, this 3-star rating is better than the one I gave the Cleveland airport pub. Not because this place was more pub-like, but because it was better WRT being in an airport. I am only there because I am going someplace else, and it did not make me feel closed-in or cut off from important things like gates or departure boards. read more

For an airport bar, this establishment has a pretty good local-beer selection: on this Saturday late-afternoon in early June, the pub featured a Traverse City ale from Right Brain Brewery (a nice, fairly mild, malty reddish-amber ale, which I ordered twice but whose name I neglected to request) and several Detroit-originated offerings from Detroit Beer Company (their lager, their Local 1529 IPA, and a solid lemon-lime shandy called "Radler"). Along with these come the usual gamut of Irish-themed options, including Guinness, Harp, Smithwick's, et cetera. Though the prices (about $8 for 16 ounces of the Michigan-sourced brews) would be adjudged high in most other tavern circumstances, the captive-audience constraints that come with airports should have already militated your expectations re getting a good deal on anything. Besides the potables - my primary, secondary, and tertiary foci with a 3+ hour layover - I can say that the bacon-cheeseburger was surprisingly competent, the Guinness-inflected brown-mustard was (likewise surprisingly) spicy and delicious, the malt-and-salt kettle chips hit the intended spots, and overall their other edible offerings seemed to be decent--even approaching the airport-rarefied air of "good," considering, again, that this whole operation is ten feet, across a taupe strip of tile, from a bank of departures-monitors, and diagonally adjacent to a hopping airport Wendy's. Moreover: I was most compelled to scratch out this review as a result of the great, friendly, accommodating service, which was really Thee's strongest suit -- and, indeed, if you ask what's local à la fût, you'll receive a complimentary sample of each local brew. The only real downside for some travelers might be that this pub is situated on the B/C-Concourse complex -- something that, on this day, worked perfectly for me, as I'd landed in A and was departing from C, but which otherwise might not be convenient, considering - as you probably know if you've traveled to or through DTW before - most gates reside on the primary A-Concourse. But if you have the time, the additional and local tap-handles probably make the trek worthwhile (and, besides, you could probably use some leg-stretching, constitutional airport-ambling anyways). read more

Look- I realize this is a generic restaurant in an airport- my expectations were low but this is one of meals with the worst food and worst value I have ever had. Our server was friendly but that basically ends the positive comments. The craft beers (and by craft I mean fat tire- which is basically everywhere now) were over 8 dollars for a pint- sure you could say it's our fault because prices aren't listed but I was expecting 6 at the most! Very refreshing to see a good choice of salad options on this menu when an airport eatery very easily could have stuck with the fish n chips and let it digress from there. We should have known though ... the salads came out in plastic trays and had obviously been prepackaged for the restaurant. The chicken wasn't even heated. Still, this is a better option than most. Would get a higher rating if the breakfast, which looks tasty and appears prominently on the first page of the menu, were available 24-7. Very decent selection of beer on tap. This was the main reason for our coming here. We quickly found some available seats at the bar, plopped ourselves down, drank, and people-watched - which seems like what most people were doing as well. First the beer, then the food. For an airport bar, this place had a great beer selection. I wish I had taken some notes, cause I was very tired and can't remember specifics, but they served at least 4 local brews, each from a different brewery, including a stout, a wheat, an IPA and a pale ale. They also had Dale's Pale Ale, which is one of my favorites. I believe that the bartender told me they had something from Bell's, but had run out. The service was great, and the bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about what he was serving. Beer prices were average for an airport. A nice respite from the stress of air travel, and for the beer and service, it gets 5 stars from me. As for the food, I am vegetarian, and typically avoid Irish places because they seldom have good vegetarian options. Their menu wasn't bursting at the seams with veggie options, but I believe they had a couple of apps and salads, and I had their mac'n'cheese. It was very good and came with a piece of cornbread. If it hadn't been for the beer selection, I might have passed this place by, but a couple of good beers and some mac'n'cheese was absolutely perfect. (also, for an airport, the mac'n'cheese was very reasonably priced. I think it was only about $8.50, which was basically the same price as one beer :) Would recommend this place to any beer lover (or mac'n'cheese lover) that has a layover in the Detroit airport. Note: I'll keep my original review, but wanted to note that, reading over the other reviews, I spotted a post by someone who appears to be a vegetarian (Allison B.), and she said that she had a fruit and brie platter, and that there is also a veggie burger. For me, for an airport, that is a good enough vegetarian selection to bump this place up to five stars. Plus, with a veggie burger, I'm sure they could accommodate a vegan as well. I can only imagine that a vegan's choices of airport cuisine are, well, not much of a choice. read more

For airport food, worthy of the 4th star. I don't normally review airport food, but this one was worth it! Comparably, I don't think it was expensive at all. Shepherds pie with a great flavor served in a bread bowl topped with mashed potatoes was excellent. Home made potato chips with malt vinegar and salt were great too, I couldn't stop eating them. Topped off with a great pint of Guinness, couldn't be any better. I would take the walk from a terminal here any day because it is that much better than everything else! read more

This place was absolutely terrible. I placed an order for oatmeal and that's exactly what I got an order of oatmeal and a cardboard cup with a plastic spoon on a plastic plate. I figured I would sit down and have a coffee and an oatmeal and get a little something better than what I could get at Wendy's just down the way. I guess I was wrong because there is a Wendy's and a Starbucks nearby that both serve a better cup of oatmeal then this place. You would think a sitdown restaurant would have a little bit more going for it. When I asked for some raisins or banana or nuts to go with it I think the waitress was taken aback she said we have some Craisins I can get you some of those if you want. As I sat there watching the food pile up in the window I was somewhat suspect, but from the reviews I figured with 40 minutes to board I'd be ok. I ordered the easiest thing I could see (cheeseburger. No frills), and it took 30 minutes to arrive. (Im pretty sure they lost my ticket, because the overworked waitress went to the window finally after seeing me check my watch and they threw one together in a few minutes, minus the cheese, but I wasn't complaining. ) Yes, it was busy, but, isn't it always busy? The bill was $30 with tip for a single burger and waffle chips and a drink. (Waffle chips are $3) I get that it's at the airport, but isn't there an assumption that everyone's in a hurry? So I ended up leaving half of it on the plate and running to board the plane. I gave two stars because the waitress was friendly. read more

The glass walls are plastered with Guinness signage so I decided to give it a try. But they were out of Guinness or it was broken or something. So not a good start. But there is only so much time in an airport (when you are lucky and flights are on time) so I ordered a club sandwich and an IPA. Took five minutes to get my beer and then the sandwich arrived. I should have taken a picture. It looked pretty sad and the bread in the bottom was the slice before the butt end so it was pretty crusty and the bread was pretty stale. But not as bad as the supposed fresh cooked chips that were also stale. And the sad remanence of a dill pickle was left untouched. The service was terrible right from the beginning. My flight got in at 8:30pm and I stepped in 10 to 9. The servers were more worried about going home than taking care of any customers. Of the five or so people I talked to, all were disappointed in the service. The comment was even made by one bartender that they have had to "deal with you people all day long".
