**CASH ONLY** The Boil is the best "Cajun" style boil restaurant in NYC and believe me, I've gone to quite a few. If you're a huge Boiling Crab fan from the West Coast, then this will be your equivalent on the East Coast. You can't come to this place if you don't like seafood, don't even try. When I have a hankering for shrimp or crab (or crawfish if it's in season), you'll find me here happily sucking on some tasty critters slathered in the Boil Special sauce with just the right amount of heat and washing it down with an ice cold beer. My favorite combo is the Queen Combo which is either 1 pound of shrimp or crawfish with a cluster of snow crab legs. One of these days I'm going to splurge for the king crab legs but last time I went, they were sold out. Those suckers are huge! For your sides, make sure to get an order of the Cajun fries which you can use to dip in all that tasty sauce. I also get an order of the vermicelli noodles which I know is way too much food, but I don't care. I will literally use my hands and fingers to plop those noodles into the bag, and use my fork to twirl it on up into my mouth slathered in sauce. I'm at The Boil to be a glutton, not a saint. Please be warned that their sauce has so much garlic in it that you will be burping, sweating, and literally farting garlic for the next 24 hours. Would not advise this place as a first date, maybe not even a 5th or 10th but they gotta see that side of you eventually but do so at your own risk. It's funny I remember the original location on the LES years ago and it was always a long wait to get into. With this NOHO location there's more than enough space, and you can also make reservations ahead of time which I am a huge fan of. The only downside though is that it's cash only, but the other locations aren't. Oh and they have Happy Hour! Huzzah. Man, I've been going to The Boil since their original location in Chinatown. Sadly, that spot closed awhile ago. And admittedly, it has been quite some time since I've been back. I was really craving a good seafood boil and no one was available tonight, so I came alone. And really, this isn't the type of food you want a lot of company watching you eat. They're cash only and remind you of that before you seat. If you didn't know or forgot, there's a convenient ATM within the restaurant. The service is very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. I was seated at a booth and revisited numerous times to make sure I was good. Came here for Valentines day with my sister. It was our first time at this location. I had been craving it for a while but never had the chance to visit. It has been very difficult to make time especially after they location at Chrystie Street shut down. It was right by my work place ): Nonetheless, this was no disappointment. The staff was great. The boil is a great interactive food experience that allows you to be as messy as you want while eating quality seafood cooked to perfection. I have been many times and finally had clean enough hands to take pictures this time. We started with the Cajun wings and Mac and cheese. My only complaint here is that for how much it costs, they are using plastic forks for us to eat with. Not only do I find this incredibly wasteful, I feel as though they are not very useful in a seafood restaurant, especially when you have to break open your own shellfish. I ordered a pound of snow crab legs and a pound of shrimp. You're able to order heads on or off and they offer many different combos with the option to trade the crawfish for shrimp. They charge by the pound, have a hearty amount of potatoes & corn included, and we got a good amount of steamed rice on the side. The service was also *chef's kiss* and were very accommodating to our odd requests. Decent shrimp and flavor (nothing compared to LA's). Catfish basket was alright. Crab cake is a little ridiculous only getting one (even though we were notified). There were potatoes in the shrimp bag which is good for flavoring and a good filler but I hope they aren't counted into the shrimp weight even though it felt like it. I generally avoid places that do not accept card like the plague, however, it was the choice of the birthday lady so I chalked it up. What I found most awkward was as I was booking the reservation via Open Table, you need to put your credit card or Apple Pay info and you're charged in the event of a no-show-- I'm still confused about that, but moving along..: I arrived well before my reservation but since it was a Tuesday and it does not have the normal huge crowd, they allowed me to sit down, which I appreciated. I helped myself to a couple of drinks the margarita wasn't that great but the first drink was awesome. I'm not a seafood eater so I had sliders with fries and also helped myself to their macaroni and cheese while I waited. I would say the mac n cheese was edible, but that's about it. On a good note, the sliders were excellent. I did not partake in the lobster but they seemed to throughly enjoy the seafood boil. Another note, as we had our minor child present, I was happy they played edited music so it could be considered kid friendly. Overall, I was pleased with the food, the staff was cordial and helpful, but I did find their prices to be a little on the high side and the fact that they don't take cards, in this day and age, is a major turnoff. Also, as I was celebrating a birthday it would have been nice if they had at least one or two dessert options-- I saw a menu that had chocolate cake, perhaps that was an outdated menu.
