Despite its relatively smaller size, this is by far the most impressive of the (myriad) of community theatres in the Central Georgia area. To be clear, all of our community theatres offer something unique and special to the table but Theatre Macon cannot help but stand out with its decades long history as a landmark in Historic Downtown Macon whilst at the same time maintains itself as a modern, progressive, and honestly American community of talented actors, musicians, technicians, artists, construction workers, and more - most of which volunteer their time to work on the magnificent pieces of performance art that comprise the productions of Theatre Macon.
Jim Crisp changed my life by founding the Theatre and providing me with encouragement during my first shows when I was still rather nervous as to how I was coming off to the audience.
Richard Frazier irreversibly (and positively) changed my life twice by being the first director to see me and my potential (i never had the opportunity to work Mr. Crisp) and by providing me with a longstanding, dependable position at the Theatre as its Finance, Marketing, & Operations Manager which fills me with a sense of completion that I never thought i could feel in a position of traditional employment.
I have both seen and directly participated in fantastic productions (both on and backstage) and the feeling it gives me (and most who volunteer at Theatre Macon) is one of pure joy. There is something special and unique to be had at all of the local theatres but Theatre Macon maintains a persistence in both its quality and ability to choose tantalizing productions that other theatres may be less likely to adapt. Nevertheless, the vast majority of Theatre Macon's MainStage productions are family friendly whilst at least one is targeted toward the younger (8-15) demographic.
Furthermore, we have recently started hosting events not particularly related to any one production such as the Academy (a 1-2 week summer camp for kids), various dance classes, and the highly acclaimed Black Owned Marketplace which had its successful debut alongside the production of The Color Purple in our second location (which conventionally 2 doors down from our primary location).
I love Theatre Macon, its shows, and the family of fantastic friends that have adopted me with open arms, open hearts, and without judgement (a far cry from my years attempting community theatre whilst living in Big Cities) Furthermore, I love that Theatre Macon has encouraged me to interact more with the other local Theaters to better support the community as a whole rather than encouraging fractious behavior.
It's a great place to come see a show,
It's a great place to make some new, interesting, and talented friends
its a great place to showcase your own talents to the community at large
Its a great place to participate in community focused pieces of performance art
No matter who you are, Theatre Macon is simply a great place to be. read more
