The concession stand no longer accepts cash and they also don't accept tap pay. They do however offer blankets for purchase.. The concession stand prices are ridiculous but that's nothing new. I was visiting Macon and had a free night so what better thing to do but go to the movies and chill. I asked my friend to find a theater that had luxury seating. Meaning big comfy recliners that had space in front of them. Why do I need space in front of the chair? Because I like the fact that when you recline, you don't have to move when someone walkß by on your row. It is extremely hard to go backwards. Once you have visited a nice theater with this type of seating there is no going back. The seats were ample sized and width and length. The recline button is on the right inside of the seat. Also good looking out putting the seat number on the floor in front of the seat. Took the guesswork out of trying to find your assigned seating. This theater has assigned seating. We purchased our tickets online to see Creed 3. The theater was immaculately clean. Not a popcorn kernel anywhere on the floor. The concession stand was not super crowded. Everyone was helpful and pleasant. The sound system was superb! read more

It's been awhile since I've been to a movie but I was shocked to see they don't accept cash anymore. I was looking at the menu and the cashier at the concession stand never said they don't take cash but another employee walked up and rudely told me "there are signs" (which I didn't see because I was looking up at the menu, not down at the counter below me). I also didn't realize you now get your own candy from a stand behind you instead of from the concession stand (which is weird). The restrooms were filthy and no paper towels in either dispense, despite the place just opening less than an hour prior and us being the 6th car there. The floor in the theater was sticky (again, it was the first movie of the day) and it's clear they don't clean the place daily. Overall, the recliners are decent, the entire place could use some cleaning and some friendlier staff. I'd rather watch movies at home, where it's clean and people are kind. read more

Moving here from Alaska to Macon has been quite the transition. Our visits to this location have been pleasant every single time. My grandbabies and kids love it here. It's always clean, staff is super sweet and professional, and they make you feel welcome. I want to highlight Christina Harris and my sweetheart, Anna Lee. Christina allowed me to walk my grandchild and daughter in without harassing me about paying for ticket when I made it clear I was only seating them. She saw me walking with a cane and rushed to the door to assist when picking up the kids, that was super sweet verses me walking all the way around. That night I was in actual pain too, thanks ma'am for the meet/greet with a smile and assisting me when using the newest method to purchase tickets and saving me the trip of a longer walk to get my babies. It's the little things that make a huge difference. My superstar, Anna Lee a.k.a my sweetheart. She has been my plus 1 from day one when I first arrived in town from Alaska. Date of visit: Dec 02, 2021 A friend of ours invited us to see a movie here with a group of others. They have decent options, for candy and food. They do also offer alcohol and wine. The individual at the counter indicated they would be getting a pizza option soon. Everything was clean and taken care of on the date of our visit. The restroom was clean. They had a stall in the men's restroom with access for ADA, and a baby changing station in it. The theater seating had a reclining option for the one we were in. The very front area had very large chaise lounge double seating with a movable foot stool on each one. The sound system could have been better as I felt it didn't provide a full surround type experience and sounded rather flat. All the employees we encountered were helpful and nice. My wife and I have a long-time habit of meeting friends from another city for dinner and a movie midway between us, in Macon. After our last three experiences at Amstar, however, the four of us have resolved that we likely will never go to Macon Amstar again. I felt much this way after seeing the high-decibel screenings of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" in 2023, but this week's experience with "Wicked" really clinched it. While the seating (very comfortable recliners) is nice, the volume at all three of these movies has been so deafening I could hardly make out any of the dialog or the "Wicked" song lyrics. During the quieter parts of "Wicked," we were subject to the booms and rumbling of whatever was playing in the theater next door, so that audience was apparently being subjected to the same ear-damaging volume as we were. It's as if the sound levels had been set by teenagers accustomed to driving cars with windshield-rattling full-blast woofers as big as their back seat. I had to read a plot synopsis of "Wicked" when I got home to understand what was going on in the deafening scenes at the theater. We'd like to see Part 2, but we're going to wait for DVD or streaming releases. There's no excuse for this. People can hear better when their ears aren't ringing from excessive decibels. We don't plan to go to Amstar for our movies anymore. read more

The overall movie experience was great. I didn't like the fact that they wouldn't let us pay for concessions with cash. They only want a debit or credit card. They didn't even offer an explanation for the change. I think that they need to allow some cash purchases. They also need to post an notice for customers to see. read more

Just sat through 30 minutes of darkness in the IMAX theater trying to see Alien Romulus. Was headed home to Atlanta & decided to drop in to see it cause I couldn't wait. All SOUND NO PICTURE! For 30 minutes no one came in and said nothing. They tried several times stopping the movie & restarting but to no avail. I got up and left after about 45 minutes of wasting my time waiting on them to try and fix a broken imax projector! Will never return again. read more

How is it possible in a town this big, there is only ONE movie theater? Inconceivable. I went to a matinee to escape reality for a few hours! Place was a ghost town. Guy selling tickets was super friendly as we discussed movie chains on East Coast vs West Coast. I'd never heard of AmStar & am used to AMC which does have many theaters in GA, just not Macon. I took my 6 and 8yr old grandsons to see Mario. They were very excited but that was short lived. I spent almost $35 dollars for our reserved seats tickets. The previews were very long for a kid movie. They were exceedingly LOUD. I thought that the audio would lower in volume as most do. It did not. Neither I nor my grandkids could tolerate the sound level. We left just after the movie finally started as it was also too loud. I also paid almost $30 for snacks. If and when I find the theater's parent company I plan to ask for a refund of at least the price of the tickets and have no plans to ever visit this theater again. Jenny Patterson read more

People, I'm a guy who likes movies to be realistic sounding. I like movies that are "boom" and "in your face," and that means that yes, they can get loud sometimes. But this theater? It is simply horrible! I sat through Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning (IMAX,) and because I was with a group, I did not want to get up and leave in the middle of it because it was, simply said, ridiculously and (I mean it) INSANELY loud. I instead had to plug my ears, which is insane (and very bizarre for me.) Usually, I get complaints at home where I have a multi-channel theater (with an army of eight subwoofers, including 4 15-inchers and a small refrigerator sized sub that contains twin 15 inch subs that act as one,) where I get complaints sometimes, even from guests into premium audio like myself. This, was simply ridiculously over the top, even for me! YES, it is supposed to get loud sometimes to mimic the action on the screen, but that is only within reasonable limits. This was a problem because it was well over what it would have even been in real life. I have heard a gunshot in real life at close range many times from hunting, and this was even louder than that when gunshots were being fired in the movie! It was so bad, that by the end, I was literally sick from the decibel level, and that was even closing my ears off! It was literally hurting my heart! It is as if, (as someone else had posted on this forum,) a bunch of deaf-a$$ (and stupid) teenagers who have an extreme fetish with competition-level mobile sound systems are trying to bleed our ears dry, just because it pops their willies for them! At some point this theater will be sued over this, and at that point maybe they'll turn the GD thing down finally! As for me? I will not go here, ever again. I will simply watch it at home where I have control... not to mention I think the sound at home is actually a bit better with regard to intelligibility of dialogue. read more

Great place to enjoy a movie! They have adequate food and comfortable reclining seats. You may fall asleep if you are tired or just had a cocktail. Good location, ample parking and you're next to the mall. read more

This place is ridiculous i have given this establishment multiple chances to get it right!! My catalytic converter was cut off my truck a few years back due to lack of security. I fought the corporate office as well as the location manager(Which needs to be fired!) To get my money back! Just recently i have started to go back ,and starting off it seemed better but slowly started going down hill. During the first 40 mins of a movie ive had to get up to inform the staff to shut off the lights in the theater on 3 diff occasions . And last night when my wife, son, and his Girlfriend went to go see Guardians of the Galaxy 3 during the last 20 mins of the movie the theater was evacuated due to someone not programming the emergency alarm fire and police alert system correctly. This of course was on our 11th wedding anniversary that my wife and family were c celebrating together. Police and Fire did not show up for at least 45 mins And there was no contracted security present at all. HOLLY NEEDS TO RESIGN, This type of management is unacceptable! I will never spend another dime here again what a joke! Do yourself a favor go somewhere else to see a movie. read more

Normally coming here is a relatively smooth experience, but the 6:45 showing of Jesus Revolution in theater 15 tonight (Feb 26th, 2023) was really disappointing. The movie started about 15-20 minutes late, the color channels were all offset from each other like it was trying to use old fashioned red-blue 3D, which gave my husband a headache (and no, this was definitely not a 3D film), the audio skipped, glitched, and stuttered in multiple places, and to top it all off, they turned the lights all back on several minutes before the credits rolled so it was hard to see the ending! They clearly had the money to put fancy reclining chairs in every room, so I don't know how they could screw things up so many times in a single showing. It legitimately felt like someone was sabotaging the showing. My advice: If you want to sit in a comfy chair and watch a movie on the big screen that (a) isn't Christian made, and (b) doesn't need to actually look and sound good, then sure, this is the place. But you're probably better off spending your money on a nice sound system to watch it at home. read more

The AmStar is the best place to catch a movie in Macon. The costs for a movie here isn't too bad, concessions a bit expensive like all cinemas, staff is nice, and the theaters are kept pretty clean. We usually grab a few cold pitchers next door at Buffalos then head over for a movie. read more

Movie theater was relatively clean. The staff was relatively nice. The audio and video at this location is terrible. I could barely see the screen and I was wearing my glasses. Very dark theater. Sound was awful. I told my partner while we were at the gym that I can't wait for this movie to come out so that we can watch it at home and I can enjoy it. The movie theater did ask me for a review via email after the movie. I told the theater that the movie was very dark and the audio was terrible and it was glitching. I received a response from the manager, acknowledging the issue and stating that they are working on it this was an issue the last two previous movies that I saw. My daughter & I saw a matinee of FireStarter yesterday. The film was so physically dark, we couldn't see most of it. I went to the customer service desk to ask for help because I thought something must be wrong with the equipment. They said they'd check. It was so bad we thought about leaving & both struggled to stay awake! After the movie, I discussed the issue with another man at the customer service desk. He said a lot of people are complaining about it but they think it's the way it's filmed. He said there was no problem with the previous film at screen 13, so they assume it's just a dark lighting choice similar to the film, Solo. As it turns out, FireStarter is included on Peacock streaming service, which we have. I watched it again and there was absolutely no problem with the lighting or visibility! I'm a bit annoyed that I wasted money on theatre tickets and that there was an obvious problem they didn't take seriously. The visibility was so bad, we couldn't see the actors' faces 90% of the time! Even when the characters were outdoors, it was dark. It's a movie theater, being able to see the movie is pretty important! read more

We saw Downton Abbey here on September 23rd. I didn't think the theater was dirty or outdated like some of the reviews I've read here said. It's not the newest and greatest theater but it isn't run down either! We didn't have anything from the snack bar so I can only comment on the theater itself. Comfortable seats, clean theater and the sound was great. Only problem we had was that you could occasionally hear the movie playing in the theater next to us but it didn't interfere too much. read more

Very nice theater and not very long line at concessions. Concessions were standard movie stuff with theater prices. Friendly and attentive staff. This was our first visit here and we saw Maverick at the IMAX theater. Very comfortable seats - careful you could almost fall asleep before the movie! Little bit of down time from ads to movie...almost like they could not get the "reel turning!" My only complaint was that the sound in the IMAX was BEYOND extreme! I truly sat the entire movie with paper napkins in each ear and my hands over that! Don't know that I'd make the trip again to the IMAX but rest assured, if we do, I'll be taking noise reduction headsets! PS LOVED the movie but the extreme sound almost ruined it for me. read more

The sound was up so loud that people were getting up to leave for a break. I went to the manager who said he was going to check on it but did not change the volume. You could actually hear the movie from the front entrance - the movie was was down in 14 You could not hear the other movies playing.. Manager did not correct the volume but said that the trailers are always loud. (Eye roll). We did get refunded but we are sad that we didn't get to see the movie. (We evacuated to the area from the hurricane and were really looking for something to pass the time). The bathrooms were clean so kudos to that employee! read more

I often come to movie premieres, and they go above and beyond to make sure we have a great moviegoing experience each time. I love the Amstar. When I used to take my husband there in a wheelchair, everyone there was beyond kind to him. I also appreciate the way that recently, the theater is bringing in movies with a more limited appeal that the action blockbusters. For example, I saw "The Wife" with Glenn Close yesterday, and it had a pretty good audience for a matinee. Amstar, just a note--some of your seats toward the end of the aisles don't spring up or have the cushioning they used to. Keep up the good work! read more

Rude staff. Refused to serve me at the concession stand, and I still have not figured out why. Choose to serve a woman who cut in front of me and said she would be the last customer served in the line. I had been polite and very patient. I walked out of the lobby for approximately 1 minute to return to the same staff member serving people in the line he had just refused to serve me in. Since its origins in Macon, GA, Am Star Cinemas has been and stays a clean, modern and enjoyable place for a moviegoing experience. They offer all the latest releases in standard, 3D and even IMAX 3D options. The prices are slightly less than they are on the national average so, even though taking the family to the movies is still an expensive process, they make it a bit easier. They even offer occasional specials and deals. In addition to the latest releases, they make an attempt to include smaller films that have less distribution or may have a buzz built around them. The management is friendly and accommodating and the staff is courteous and helpful. That's enough for any theater, but the thing I like most about Am Star is that they choose to really go the extra mile for big event film releases, and supporting local organizations and charities, often tying the two together. They also offer Midnight releases of most big films. You can tell they not only appreciate your business, but care about your moviegoing experience and the community they reside in. Best of all is they don't HAVE to do this as there is currently no competition in Macon. They do it because they want to, and that's a rare thing these days. read more

My husband and I came to the 7:20 showing of Dungeons and dragons in theater 15 and it was a horrible experience. We showed up at 7 and got to our seat, which was the front recliner in the middle of the row, we immediately noticed that the trailers and commercials they were showing were blurry and the colors were badly offset almost as if it was meant to be 3D. We waited a bit but then my husband went and let the manager know when things did not improve. He did this several more times only for nothing to change, and to be told that there was nothing wrong because it "looked fine" and that it was probably because of how close we were seated to the screen, which is odd because we saw John wick in theater 1, also in the front recliners a week ago and the quality was so much better? My husband also managed to ask one of the other people in the theater who had been seated much higher than us and they agreed that it was off but they said that they were just going to deal with it. We ended up leaving because the color offset was so bad it was making me feel sick. We did end up getting a refund by the end of it but we are very disappointed, especially since it seems like theater 15 seems to be the issue for other people as well and it hasn't been treated appropriately. read more

This is the only movie theatre that I have been to in Macon but I have never had any problems with it! My husband and I tend to see IMAX 3D movies and they're as good a viewing here as in most other theaters I have been to. Concession stand is a bit slow but otherwise fine. I signed up for Reel Rewards which is the movie program here and have benefited! Tons of parking. Not often a long line, and if you order online from Fandango beforehand you just walk in and claim the tickets from the machine inside the front doors. I like the fact that they offer movies in imax and 3d but Jeebus Christmas, it's expensive. Took my family (2 adults, 2 kids) to a matinee and it was over $100. 2 adult tickets, 2 child's tickets, 1 large popcorn, 2 drinks, and 2 kids boxes. Next time I'll wait for it to come out on DVD. The staff was so unresponsive I wondered if they were hearing impaired. I know they probably don't make much but they could at least confirm if they heard you. The nicest employee in the building was the ticket tearer. He was Hispanic and had a smile on his face the whole time and he was so polite I wanted to hug him. He's the only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars. read more
