It's got a fantastic happy hour ($1 PBR as of the time of this writing), free darts and a very chill atmosphere. They do allow smoking inside so that will be a deal breaker for some people. They have a patio in the back which is a great place to grab a beer when it's nice out. It's also right downtown and within walking distance of plenty of other bars and restaurants. Knowing downtown parking can be a whole event of its own, we arrived an hour early and scored street parking right across the street! The clear-bag policy was strictly enforced, so thankfully I came prepared. There were a lot of women who had to make the long walk back to their cars since they didn't get the clear bag memo. Security was quick and easy, with metal detectors, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The auditorium is spacious but definitely showing its age. Our floor seats were close to the stage, but the chairs weren't numbered. Instead, tiny papers on the floor told you which seats belonged in each row. For nearly $200 a ticket, I shouldn't have to count chairs like I'm doing inventory at a warehouse. Fortunately, the loose chairs made getting in and out of the row easy. The folks sitting in the balcony didn't look very comfortable and the seats were super close. I'm glad I paid the extra money for more comfortable seats. The restrooms downstairs were surprisingly clean. Concessions were limited, and our $5 popcorn came in a box that looked like it was on a diet. Drinks were available both on the main balcony and downstairs. Leaving was easy, with no major traffic mess. Overall, the venue could definitely use some TLC, especially the seating, but the staff, security, cleanliness, and location worked in its favor. I'd return for another show because this is one of the few venues in Macon that you can get tickets for good entertainment.

In that approximate half of a century so many bands have graced the establishment and the crowd with music, including bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Marshall Tucker Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (then known as Mudcrutch), Boz Scaggs and the Allman Brothers Band. With such amazing performers having graced this establishment, I guess they earn their self-appointed title of "the home of southern rock." This is by no means a fancy place, in fact, the words "dive bar" might come to mind when seeing this place, but I love dive bars. Dive bars have tons of character (usually enhanced by the characters that hang out in those dive bars) and is a real glimpse of the past and present of a community. The walls of Grant's Lounge tell that history, the pictures show the storied past and the greats who graced that stage. We often hear the phrase "if these walls could talk," boy, does it truly apply here. Grant's Lounge is a place you must visit if you are in Macon, Georgia (I also recommend a stop at Nu-Way Weiners, a hot dog chain that started over one hundred years ago). Spots like Grant's Lounge and Nu-Way Weiners are the real history of Macon, Georgia. This is the real Macon, Georgia, the soul of this southern city. These are the businesses that are the day to day existence of Macon, not just a defining moment for a history book. If you are in Macon, Georgia, you must check out Grant's Lounge (and get a hot dog and/or a burger from Nu-Way). Only than will you have truly visited Macon, Georgia and stood within its soul.

We were definitely on the early side as there were few people there (by the time we left a few hours later, it was packed!). We got a nice table with a dedicated fan that had a clear view of the stage. The space is really cool and there are also some stadium style seats with great views of the stage. The bar had everything you could want and including a good beer selection. They also allow you to bring your own food, which is a game changer. There is one food truck onsite that rotates (it was Mexican the night we were there) and a pizza place next door with great pizza. There are some TVs playing sports and a kid's area so bring the kids and dogs. Onvce the band started, it was loud, but we had a great time here catching up with friends.

The inside was interesting. I felt like we were eating at a Quentin Tarantino movie set. In order to get to the restaurant several homeless people were out in front. We were hassled going out and when leaving. This was unnerving and uncomfortable. All of it was so interesting. I would highly recommended reading it if f you find yourself in Macon.

When I was there the band called Big Mike and the Booty Papas and they were playing some classic old school type country that had me tapping my foot and feeling that joyful melancholy that only old outlaw type country can inspire. They also did a great version of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic "Simple Man" (this song seems to be a mandatory song for many of the bands here in the South). I would definitely recommend a visit here.
