For this area of Granville (wayyyyyy south), the Yard ain't that bad. They have a few decent beers on tap with many respectable bottles behind the bar as well. Plus there's KD on the menu. Ya... Real KD. It was a joke originally, but people kept ordering it. Not entirely sure how they get away with the patio blocking the sidewalk, but oh well. Giver. read more

The Kraft Dinner on the menu wasn't a joke, and never was a joke. Anyone who's been to THE FRINGE CAFE in Kitsilano will take a look around the place, then the menu, and piece it together: Same owners. The menu's the same -- VERY bare-bones. They literally don't have a "kitchen", just a four-element good-old-fashioned stove behind the bar. Beer's good, with a different $3.50 sleeve per day. Service is casual and what you'd expect for a long skinny bar on a main drag. There's nothing fancy, nothing stellar, but they're not TRYING to be, and they're not CHARGING you for the attempt, either, so, y'know, skookum. You can get good nachos, a pulled pork sammich, things like that, but that's the way that goes. Nowhere near the active clientele found at their sister joint on Broadway, the Fringe, but give it a year or two. read more

With a pint for $3.99 every night of the week and honest service, The Yard is the place to go in South Vancouver. Regulars dominate The Yard, and for a reason. Its not a restaurant that serves alcohol, its an old school bar. You go to The Yard to drink and socialise and thats it. There is a large RAMONES plaque on one of the joists, yet its not a punk bar. Local working folks come to The Yard 7 days a week for a pint and to shoot the shit. The only women at The Yard are going to be somebodys girlfriend, so its not a pickup place or meat market at all. The odd Italian shower shows up, and they are relegated to the back where you dont have to interact with them. They leave after 45 minutes when they have had nachos and one Stella. Came here as we were in the area for nachos. We didn't intend to come here, however, the place we wanted to go fell through in terms of service so we came here which is a much better choice. The nachos had a good portion of cheese to chips and there was enough to share. My buddy had a beer and I decided to splurge on the sugar and have a few glasses of cola. The customer service was awesome and the prices were awesome and affordable. Most food items are under $18 which a great deal in the city if you just want to chill and fill. read more

I like the location cuz it's right by my place. The service was great, one waitress by herself. She checked on us often. And suggested to my friend instead of coke why not a double shot of rum n coke. Prices were reasonable. Enjoyed the patio very much and the quietness. It was very chill and relaxed. Marpole totally needed a place like this. I wish I had more chances to go here, because it seems like there's a strong crowd of regulars. Good song on? People sing along. People know the bartenders by name. It's a cool atmosphere, and not pretentious at all. As others have said, this is a great place to grab a few if you live in Marpole, since you can walk home. We always hit this place with a friend who lives downtown, since he can grab the 10 bus back home right on Granville. Everyone wins! read more

I like it. It is quite small and barebones. The kitchen is what you see at the bar, a stove, toaster oven, small mis-en-place. They've got about 6 beers on tap, well chosen for the crowd and the space. Bartender is great with conversation. This is old school bar hangout joint. Kind of stuck in the 70's/80's time warp, but whatever. read more

Fantastic pub! Great local feel. With everyone trying to be a gastro-pub these days it was really cool to see the comfort-food pub menu with all the food items UNDER $15, yes below $15. A lot of places now everything is more than $15! The service was great, happy hour had fantastic prices on beer. The perogies and sausage dish was tasty and the gourmet KD (yes real Kraft Dinner) with their twist was really great, and only $4! The Yard is my Friday night go to with my friends. A few months ago I would have giving this 4, maybe even 5 stars but they have changed their menu. While the food is still delicious, it is in tapas style so you have to order more to fill up. Their KD with chili (or try it with pulled pork) it super amazing. My boyfriend gets is all the time. I used to get the burrito but it's off the menu now... bring it back! Beer is good and is well priced. The staff is hilarious and one of the big reasons we go back time and time again. They have karaoke nights and live music from time to time. It's a great place for locals to hang out. read more

I went here with some work friends, and had a good time. It's a very small pub (the kitchen is out in the open, behind the bar). There's a beer special every evening, the bartender is friendly and attentive, and the crowd seems to be a bit older (no crazy bar stars). I like the Yard. It's a good working class bar filled with regulars. People are usually friendly, even the seedier people. The food is just to keep you from puking. On a busier night it's packed as hell in here. They always play classic rock. This isn't a twenty-something pick up bar. This isn't a dance club. This isn't a hipster bar. If you're from a small town with only a couple of bars, the good one would in some way resemble the Yard. read more

I peiodically pop in to the Yard for a drink, since they have no food menu worth mentioning. The service here is hit and miss - I left once after one drink since I was being completetly ignored by the guy on staff who was too busy lighting candles to notice me trying to flag him down. The regulars occupy the stools at the bar so don't even think about sitting there, or outside where the smokers stand on the sidewalk and the smoke wafts onto the "patio". Except for it's convenient location, I would be happy to go somewhere else. read more

Great pub that's open late in south van. The clientele is 30 yr olds+ so you don't get the obnoxious teens spilling their drinks at the table next to ya. The food was quite good considering their limited kitchen. My fav is the artichoke dip. Tasty beers and a large selection of hard alcohol that would even satiate T.O. Mayor, Rob Ford. Ordered 2 different pints, both were flat. Many patrons should have been cut off hours ago. Food was...bleh... But they are doing the best they can with no real kitchen. Seeing as how this is one of two bars in marpole, if they stepped up their game they would be rolling in cash. read more

What a treat to find a great neighbourhood pub in the heart of Marpole. The Yard, at Granville and 67th just past the library, is a cosy pub that has the most delicious Nachos and Yartichoke dip I've ever tasted! The Vanilla Winter Ale (from local Granville Is) is a great beer, perfect for Christmas. There are lots of other beer to choose from, but I stuck with the Vanilla beer because it was so tasty. The bar tender Jefrey is friendly and easy to talk to and the waitress very attentive and friendly...in fact the place reminded me of the TV Show Cheers, except that I never found a Cheers place to visit where I felt welcome and comfortable. Now I have. The owner of the pub NIgel was there to chatt with the clientele, lots of hip youthful regulars. The patio will be great in the summer...but now its Christmassy indoors with real fir branches hanging from the ceiling. I also appreciated that one one tv screen was sports and on the one closest to me the dog show was on. So I highly recommend giving The Yard a try! read more

Decided to come in here as we live a block down the road for some beers after work, was very happy with our experiance! the waitress was running the entire joint herself, bartending, serving, and cooking, which is impressive in itself and the service was still amazing considering how busy she was. Their nachos are incredible, probably the cheesiest ive ever had and loaded with veggies considering the price point. Will be happy to make this a regular thing! read more

If you find yourself in the Marpole neighbourhood and just don't want to leave, then you can get a drink here. You'll get it along with food that has random shards of broken plastic in it and it'll be served by inept idiots but it'll be a drink. If you enjoy waiting, and waiting some more, for a server to even ask if you'd like a drink and then have them forget half your order, you can find that here as well. And if you especially enjoy staff who, after ignoring you, ask that you pay multiple bills because that staff is too lazy or too dumb to do math . . . and then have you stand at their single, immobile credit card terminal for 20 minutes as they stare bewildered at a computer that they just don't understand before you can simply pay for your drinks, yes, you can find that here as well. It might be nice to have a place like this in the neighbourhood but if there were ANY OTHER place like this in the neighbourhood to choose from then The Yard would be out of business in a heartbeat. read more
