Funny and chatty and a great bartender. We ordered burgers and fries and she gave us a few extra onion rings on the side of our BBQ burger. Food was good. Drinks were good. Stellar experience this early afternoon. We came in for few drinks and were welcomed to this amazing atmosphere of Ethan who was flair-styling drinks and bringing some sincere serious energy to the bar. Go eagles! The whole time we've been here he has been non-stop smiling, dancing, running his ass off & signing, all-while taking care of every customer all by his lonesome. In town from Seattle for Sun and Fun, this was the closest bar to our hotel.... Classic Dive and awesome in every way. The woodshed was a surprisingly nice place. We stopped by on our Tempe Dive Bar Tour, and I actually found it to be the most aesthetically pleasing, although it was one of the last stops so there may have been some drunk goggles going on. At the time we were there they had $3.25 32oz domestics which is a pretty damn good deal. There is a narrow bar area, and some other seating area around with the normal realm of darts, pool, and other bar games. People are friendly and service is pretty quick. I didn't eat any of the food, but I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself in this bar again. read more

This place recently underwent a renovation that left in feeling just as divey as before, but also a lot cleaner. I've come here twice, and the most recent time left me wanting to return. Drinks: they have tons of beer on tap and it's cool to see all the tubes running throughout the bar area. I typically stick with Blue moon, but it looks like they have a wide variety of beers including a few local ones. Food: The wings are the bomb. They're super tender and flavorful. They have specials on Sunday and Monday where you get 1.5x the amount of wings for the same price. The fries are alright. You get a big serving, but they're those crinkly cut ones that just don't have the same crunch and flavor. I'd say they'd be perfect, but I probably need a few more drinks. Ambiance: there are a ton of TVs streaming all sorts of sports and random video clips. There are a couple of pool tables. there are a lot of booths and a fair amount of seating at the bar area. There's also a patio that's still pretty grungy. It's a local place, and it's great for wings. If you're looking for a dive bar, this would be the place to go. read more

Second the waitress said I had the "whitest" name for a black woman. Walking into this place I thought "should I get a penicillin shot first"? That was my first impression. However walking in its actually a pretty cool little dive bar. This place has 2 lopsided pool tables where they allow children to use as jungle gyms, a bar, and a juke box... Luckily I wasn't in the climbing mood, so I made my way over to the bar to get me a cold sweet, sweet beer. Of course I ordered the man size mug of Delicious Freezing Coors light, and man I wish I could define the feeling and the taste. ** Ill try to explain the feeling when the beer hit my lips. It tasted and felt like tiny angels kissing my lips with rocky mountain water flavored chapstick I wish I my experience would have ended there, because this place would have def. gotten 20 stars. However, the experience continues: After a sip of that angel in a mug, I went to the restroom and as I opened the bathroom door I almost passed out. It was disgusting, not i'm not a snob or a germaphobe, but I feel like they needed to hire a priest with Holy ammonia and bless that bathroom!!! I had to go though, so I sucked it up and dealt with the smell. What I realized after that, is that after someone goes to the bathroom and the door opens the smell lingers in the rest of the Bar. It was gross, I figured its just more of a hole in the wall then im used to. So I moved on, and dealt with it. The stench went away so i ordered another beer I ordered some chow, I got a bacon cheeseburger and surprisingly it was delicious. The friar and the grill is literally behind the bar, so your bartender is not only serving you beer he is also making your chow for you. After I ate my food and had one last beer I realized that the bartender (which was really pretty cool) had a cold or cough and wasn't washing his hands after covering his mouth. It made me wonder about my burger......... I finished my beer and paid my tab and was out around 9pm Around 2am, I was awoken by a strong feeling in my belly. Like there was little violent Dutch wooden clog dancer prancing around in there... My immediate thought was "damn Burger" and I think I was right... I paid for that burger twice... I spent some time on my throne thinking about how I should have just left after smelling the bathrooms.... I should have made a better decision. If they cleaned this place up and set standards it would be a gem of a dive bar. read more

I am always shocked at the mentally of owners who think that having one server who is not capable of serving more than 4 ppl and especially when she has to cook as well to run thier busniess. It's funny how the menu says that everything is homemade and then when you order the mozzarella sticks, bartender has to rush to back freezer and get fresh bag of sticks. Well, I saved 4 bucks and ordered a side of frozen crinkly cut fries and it was a big order and well cooked, so as for frozen snacks, these fries were pretty good for three bucks. Place was semi-crowded for football playoffs and a bunch of 49ers fans had taken over the middle of the establishment. They had a good deal on large domestic drafts at $3.25 and a PBR can for two bucks. Tv situation is a bit outdated at the bar, but in the dining area, they had a big screen. I'm a fan of neighborhood bars. Quite frankly, I'll take them any day over destination bars. The Woodshed is one of those quintessential neighborhood bars that, if you love them like I do, will always have a place in your heart. Ambiance: well, you feel like you're in a mini-strip mall, because you are. The structure has been there as long as I can remember (1981 or so)...it feels like it. Oh well, its bright, has a smattering of TVs, random stuff on the walls. Basically, a good friendly non-pretentious atmosphere. Grub: well, it won't win any gastropub awards. It's passable if you're hungry. Then again, Someburros is across the street, ahem. Amenities: decent pool tables and full bar. Bathrooms: well, divebar-esque, aaaand we'll leave it at that. Other: Small patio in front provides no ambiance whatsoever. Plenty of parking...but, really, a neighborhood bar...you shouldn't be driving too much. Place is also mad cheap. Staff: friendly with regulars and friendly with newbies...but friendlier with regulars. If you're in the hood...this should be your neighborhood bar. If you're outside the hood, well, when it comes time to triangulate a meeting spot for several people that would be centralized near the Kiwanis are...then come here. Bottom line...it is a top notch neighborhood bar and always a trusted go-to spot to get your drink on and hang with friends. read more

The 4 stars are for the last few times I'm visited. The minus one is for tonight. I live in so cal I visit for spring training. Found this place and loved it !! Made me feel at home . I go to a dive bar at home that had nothing but locals so coming here made sense to me. Came back A year later. Same feeling loved it. Came here random times. Tonight. Came into this bar. Randoms here made us feel uncomfortable. Talking shit. Ok your cool move on... I ordered a cactus cooler from the bartender .... 8/19/2019...... so he says oh a cactus cooler and laughs ... ok yea we have been drinking all day we are on vacation from Southern California. Sorry ... tell him ghetto shot it don't make it a drop shot. .... he says something about not having melon ... and I'm thinking he's making someone else shots..... I end up with Reddish colored shots and they weren't even good ! They tasted HORRIBLE!!!!! I tipped the dude $10 on 2 drinks 2 shots. At least train your bartenders. I have loved this place for over 35 yrs. But trying to watch a game, NOT the Cardinals (which was televised on regular tv)on one little t.v. was ridiculous! And in 90° ! Fix the dang air Brandon. Trying to eat wings (which are still great) while dripping sweat into my food is unexceptable. The service was good, but strained. Not many people, but the poor girl had only one you get kid to help her, she was cooking, tending bar , washing glasses...c'mon man! For the first time in 35+ yrs, I will think twice before heading up to the shed to watch a game, play pool or anything. So disappointed. I have been a regular fixture here since the late '80's when my "then-girlfriend" introduced me to the place. The wings beat everything I had before. Shortly thereafter I began to cheat on her by going to the 'Shed alone every Sunday (and/or Monday) to spend time with my new mistress- "Thirty Hot and Grilled" wings. Back then it was next to impossible to get the wings Grilled. You had to argue with the bartender to grill them after they were sauced, because they didn't want to clean the grill afterwards. What the bartender didn't realize was that grilled wings were a gold mine that kept me and a mess of other customers coming for more. Well, 25 years later, the wings are still top notch if you have one of the bartenders who have been there a long time hook them up for you (and you don't have to argue to get them grilled anymore, just remember to let them know you want them grilled when you order-lol). The Woodshed I rarely has table side service. You mostly have to walk up to the bar and order, go back to your table, then pick it up from the bar yourself or it'll languish up there and get cold, either due to staff shortage or rare indifference. The same goes for drink orders/refills. NOTE: This is a Sports Bar so you really shouldn't expect waiting staff.-lol If you prefer more consistent table side service, I recommend The Woodshed II in Mesa for the full service, dining experience. Although they have some preparation inconsistencies, there are at least one to two waitresses that are very attentive even on heavy "Game" days. read more
