No drinks, no "we will be with you shortly" or anything. We just sat there. Finally a server came over and said they had a big group come in and it was causing some backup and the host should have told us; he didn't. The drinks and appetizer came quickly and the street corner appetizer was very good; I would order it again. Once the appetizer was finished we sat with empty glasses for a good while. Again, no communication. Once the food arrived, things got much better. Wraps were good, not great. My daughter's pizza was good. With all the restaurants in the area, they will need to up their game on service.

I have to say, that I really like Sonny's. The food is great! However, the employees you hire as…read morehosts needs a lot of improvement, mostly in their attitude and demeanor. We came in for dinner and requested a table for 3. Since my mother has mobility issues, she can't do booths or tables with high top chairs. After being told we'd have to wait 15-20 minutes (which turned out to be less that 10 minutes), a woman was about to seat us and told us that they can't give us a table but could offer us a booth and put a chair in the middle of the aisle. No and that's not what we asked for. Your host staff need to learn the difference between a booth, a table, and a high top table. Also, sticking a chair in the walkway is really not an acceptable option. We ended up being seated at a huge half booth/half table in the far back corner big enough for a family of 8-10. Another customer's power scooter was also crammed behind us and when they needed to access the scooter, it was quite an ordeal to work around us, even when we tried to move a bit. Our server was a young man. Pleasant and professional. I had the cheese ravioli, my dad has the porcini rigatoni (I've had it before and it's very good!) and my mom had the mushroom ravioli. Her mushroom ravioli claimed to have a marscapone cream sauce. She ended up sending it back because it tasted like alfredo that had gone rancid. Our server was very nice about changing the dish out for the rigatoni and her replacement came out very quickly. We learned that they put brandy into all their pasta sauces and apparently the cook must have put too much in. Granted the alcohol burns off in the cooking process, but I think we'd have liked to know if liquor was being put into our food, especially when it's not mentioned on the menu. I hope they don't use the same practices on their kids entrees. Overall, I've never really had much of an issue with the food here, but I feel like everytime we come to Sonny's, there's something that goes wrong. Oh well, at least I got 4 jars of marinara sauce for $10 due to their surplus sale by the host station! ;)

We've been visiting Door Peninsula Winery since the early 1980s, when it was housed in a little…read moretwo-room schoolhouse, and wow--has it changed over the years! Today it's a beautiful, much larger destination, but it's still a fun stop whenever we're in Door County. When you walk in, you can actually see some of the wine production taking place, which adds to the experience. There's a large tasting bar where you can sample a variety of wines, including the fruit wines Door County is known for, along with spirits and specialty whiskeys. This time I decided to venture beyond the wine and tried the cherry vodka--and it was excellent! Definitely a fun Door County twist and something I'd recommend sampling. There's also a really nice seasonal gift shop with plenty to browse, and of course you can stock up on your favorites to take home, have wine shipped, or even join their wine club. Whether you're a wine lover, interested in trying some locally inspired spirits, or simply looking for a fun Door County stop, I'd recommend spending an hour here. Do a little tasting, browse the shop, and chances are you'll find something delicious to bring home. After more than 40 years of visits, it's pretty amazing to see how far Door Peninsula Winery has come! I especially like that last sentence for your review because very few reviewers can genuinely say they've watched the place evolve over four decades. That's what makes this one personal rather than another generic winery review.

We don't usually post reviews but If you are considering dining here, a few tips:…read more-the restaurant opens at 5 pm. Try getting there before 5 pm. If there is a line of a dozen or more standing in line, plan on returning at 5:30 pm, or perhaps every half hour as the first in line get welcomed and seated first. Don't be upset if you press for seating even if the restaurant is half empty. We're puzzled as to why the restaurant doesn't take reservations, as there is a staff shortage in kitchen and wait staff. There is a permanent help wanted sign in its window. Perhaps taking reservations and guaranteeing showing up by taking a credit card first might help with greeting and accommodating the limited number of tables this restaurant can handle courteously and politely. If you do miss the first seating, don't be offended if the host/ hostess doesn't suggest waiting at the bar and enjoying a cocktail or glass of wine while you wait for your later seating. Be proactive and ask for permission to sit at the bar. Don't be offended if the bartender is curt and impatient. It's difficult to keep a good efficient staff. We're not sure if the food is good. As we were treated rudely upon entering, and they'd reached their initial seating capacity, our questions were answered impatiently and coldly. We did leave our name to return after 35 minutes. We left the restaurant and stood outside to reassess the situation. We decided it wasn't worth the attitude. So we crossed the street and had a welcoming and delicious dinner with drinks and desserts at Crate which we highly recommend. They had a wide range of cheeses and oils out for sampling, and the staff was friendly and walked us through the different varieties. One of them had us try a cheese dip with ghost peppers, which was hands down our favorite, creamy up front with a slow burn that built after. We picked up some cheddar, a tub of that dip, and a few beers for the road. We also grabbed food from the in-store café: a grilled French onion sandwich, tomato basil soup, and cheese curds. The sandwich and soup were the standouts. The curds were fresh and squeaky. We finished with their ice cream, which held up to everything else we'd eaten. The prices were low enough that the whole stop felt like a steal. A must-visit when you're in Sturgeon Bay.
