The Wild Place is a nature sanctuary in Providence. It is the vision and creation of Diana Jackson.
Here in the middle of the city is a place of peace, quiet, flowers, a little river, and inspiring words. Previously it was a dumping ground filled with lots of trash, weeds, old tires, dead branches, bottles and cans, and other debris. It was an eyesore in the neighborhood.
Diana felt sad about its neglected state and began to clear it. With the permission of the city, she found volunteers who participated in the gradual elimination of the debris. A natural setting with trees and a river slowly emerged and transformed into a park with a bench, wildflowers, and paths to explore.
I discovered this place one time I was picking someone up at the Peter Pan bus station, which is just steps away from this nice green space....glad that visionaries and volunteers have made this a nice place to relax. read more
