Great nature area/park inside of Providence RI. The park is larger than it looks from thr entrance. I only went up one trail bit I know it has several. Thr view from the top is amazing and it has seating and a fire pit. Great place for early morning sunrise or late evening sunset yoga and meditation ‍. The skate park, playground and baseball field makes this a big family spot. read more

Can my tax dollars please go towards better signage & upkeep of this beautiful park? Please? Such a joy to have public access to green space like this right in the middle of the city. I felt my cortisol drop significantly just after a few steps on the trail. At one point, the Providence noise pollution almost disappeared & all I could hear was birds & bugs & wind. Unfortunately it's a seriously confusing smorgasbord of trails. I had to pull up AllTrails a few times, which is borderline embarrassing, considering how small of a park this is. I'm not sure I really followed any of the proper trails, just kinda zigzagged around. I would've felt more at ease if the trails were marked more clearly. Still highly recommend as a great green space. Enjoy! read more

A mixed review of this trail/park, that at some point I'll have to revisit. The trail is in back of the field and is paved at the beginning offering a moderately uphill climb. Once you get to the top of that, you have a chance to see a nice view of the city to your left. Along the way to the top and if you keep going a little father there are multiple trail paths that jet off. It was easily on its way to being a five-star review. Unfortunately, I didn't get to explore as much of the trail(s) as I wanted, as I started to feel unsafe. Walking from the parking lot to the trail I was approached by 2 different people asking for money, and as I was walking the beginning of the trail, I noticed one of them following a little behind me. Although I had my pepper spray on me, I didn't want to be in a position where something could possibly escalate, so I cut through and back to the beginning of the trail and avoided the interaction. If you are going to this trail, I'd advise bringing a hiking buddy. read more

This place is very easily accessible from Providence; it's a good place to stop in to if you've been cooped up inside all day and just want to breath a little fresh air. Tip: Neutaconkanut Park is fairly small, but there's a fairly interesting walk you can take here :-) Fairly close to the airport, we found it a bit tricky to find the entrance when we let our GPS lead us here. read more

This is an amazing bit of nature and recreation, right in Providence. In the summer there's a Wednesday farmer's market from 3-6, and there are frequent weekend concerts at the top of the hill. There are also a sledding hill, baseball diamonds and a skate park at the base. I come here for the hiking. For being only 10 minutes from downtown providence, it's very impressive. It's small, just shy of 90 acres, but the trail network is fantastic. The views of Providence from the top of the hill and the vista are great.There's a map at the entrance to the park, I usually just do one big loop when I visit. There's a trail map you can print out on the website as well. This is an urban park, so litter can be a problem. Please do your part and bring your trash out with you. read more

Nice hill in the middle of Providence off Plainfield St. Several trail loops to choose from, from pretty flat to steep. Nice views of Providence can be seen from several vista points. Combining the Orange and Blue loop, you can hike over 3 miles round trip. Lots of birds chirping and wild turkeys last time I was there. Several nice brooks also can be found during the hike. It's hard to forgot that you're in the middle of a city between the sites, sounds, and random debris like old cars, but there's no other trail system like it nearby. And some of the views are truly stunning. Great for kids, great for dogs, and in winter there's one helluva sledding hill. That said, there's a lot of trash up there. There are a few glorious stretches of pure nature, but there's a whole lotta unkempt concrete, too. And trails aren't well marked or maintained. For trail variation I like it better than Lincoln Woods. But for real woods it's better to get out of the city boundaries. read more

Went here last weekend. There are great views of Providence from the top of the hill. When we were there, there was a large group of runners doing hill repeats up and down the massive hill--kudos to them! We took a trail up to the top. The trail is generally well kept, although there is some overgrowth. It was a little buggy, but not too bad. We really liked the WPA steps, which were built as part of the Work Progress Administration. Major downside, however, was all the trash. The parking lot was littered with trash and we noticed trash at the top of the hill and scattered on the trail. read more

This is one of the best hiking spots in the city, nicely maintained trails quiet and peaceful and great for viewing local wildlife.

Love this place as a child! Grew up hanging out at the baseball fields and pool AND THE FEAST OF ST JOSEPH!

I had no idea this place existed and I'm so glad I found it. It really is a hidden gem right in the middle of the city. It is by no means an easy hike. I would categorize it as hard easy to easy intermediate if that even makes sense. We completed probably about 75% of the trails and were done in about an hour and 15 minutes. It's quite hilly and rocky which is both beautiful and a workout. The view overlooking the city at the top put a smile on our faces. My six year old son conquered it even if there was a little whining involved. It had character and the trails were fairly well marked in that you stopped and questioned a couple of times but not enough so that this nervous nelly couldn't figure her way out. I really enjoyed the bridges and boardwalks even if they weren't warranted today since it was so dry. The Mosquitos were ravenous even with our tripled layer of bug spray, but it was definitely an enjoyable afternoon. read more

Disclaimer: I'm not an outdoorsy kind of gal. When given the choice I would much rather spend my Saturday sleeping in, going to brunch, then getting any needed exercise at a gym with central air and cable. My girlfriend, however, likes to hike and camp and watch birds and pack a lunch to eat in a park somewhere while playing an outdoor game which in all likelihood will involve mallets. This brings us to the day I visited Neutaconkanut Park. Upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised to find that there's a pool, a playground, large lawns, and some hiking trails. I was quickly shuffled past any areas where I might be able to relax to the entrance to the trails. There are a few trails outlined on a map near the entrance, not actually sure which one I ended up on but it was maybe 2 miles around and super buggy. The initial ascent was not ideal, it was pretty steep uphill and on the way I passed 2 guys rolling a blunt and one random dude peeing. Not exactly scenic... Onwards and upwards - At first things were pretty good, the trails are clearly maintained and most of the way there was fresh mulch which was way nicer to walk on then the unkempt concrete at the entryway. We even saw a deer! But the further in we got the more bugs there were - mosquitos, gnats, flies, you name it. I made sure to cover myself in bug spray before we started walking but these bugs were determined. We all had to wear sunglasses to keep the gnats from flying into our eyes, which obviously diminished the experience of seeing some nice wildlife. We ended up having to leave early because we were being eaten alive. I had 20+ mosquito bites when we left and had to cover myself in hydrocortisone cream when I got home. Needless to say, I think I'll stick to the gym for exercise and maybe just increase the incline on the treadmill next time for a bug free "hike". read more

The trails are really nice but it's basically straight up hill for a 15 minutes. Great to tire out the dog. It wasn't too busy and there's a private parking lot. The view from the top of the hill is great. I would definitely recommend coming back with a picnic. read more

Nicely marked trails. It's easy to do all the loops in a couple of hours. Moderate background notice from the nearby highway, but still a pleasant hike with a smattering of nice views. I'd come back again, and would be interested to see what it looks like in the spring and summer. And there is a ski/sledding hill that should be fun in the winter. read more

As someone previously mentioned this is a park centered in an urban community. There is broken glass and litter near the skate park and baseball field. However, the park has an interesting history and provided us with an hour of hiking. The view of Prov from the top was beautiful. read more

This is definitely my favorite park in Providence. They have a skate park. Walking trails which I absolutely love! A big running hill. Some sports fields. A basketball court. I want to say they still do a farmers market on Mondays. I used to frequent the market. Something I deff miss. This park is awesome! It's deff a gem! read more
