This is a great walking path that is both kid and dog friendly. Walking down the boulevard and back is a great way to get exercise any time of the year while taking in the views of the beautiful homes on either side. Looking for a nice spot to walk or jog, this is the place. The wide crushed gravel walking path runs about 1.75 miles in length, with plenty of shade trees and benches long the route. But the main attraction is the historic homes which line both sides of the street. There are many large, old, and beautiful homes in an eclectic variety or architectural styles to admire during a walk or jog. The walking path is located within the narrow and long Blackstone Boulevard Park. It is a public park which runs down the center of Blackstone Boulevard. The park is located in the Blackstone neighborhood, a beautiful, historic and fairly affluent residential area. At the north end of the walking path, I'd recommend a detour into the Swan Point Cemetery. It is a beautifully maintained, 200-acre cemetery located along the river, and includes mature trees, interesting plantings, historic markers and metculously kept lawns. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Sites, and open to all. There is parking in the cemetary, and also on Blackstone Boulevard near the entrance. read more

Homegirl is constantly on the trim down. When her muffin starts to get a top, she knows it's the lbs she's gotta drop. She trades her furs for sweatshirts, her Jimmy Choo's for tennis shoes. Now Homegirl still looks BOMB when she's gettin' skinny-don't think she's got mismatched socks and eye crusts. Homegirl knows you have to look like fire to get a good burn. Now the pros: -There's plenty of parking towards the 'beginning' of the path. Homegirl likes to double park her Lambo so always prefer parking away from Hope St. -the atmosphere is quite quaint. While not quite as lavish as Homegirls abode, the houses are charming and nicely manicured. She likes viewing what flowers are planted, the architectural house features....and if the lights are on inside-Homegirl likes to see what's cookin for dinner. She's nosy. - Homegirl also enjoys the distance of the trail. She's always heard it's about 2 miles there and back. Also a plus is the playground area, the scenic fountain, and of course the grub Homegirl worked up an appetite for. Several food spots to choose from. The cons: -The gravel mess they pass off as a walking path? Small rocks and pebbles are constantly creepin' in homegirls shoes. Do you know what havoc a small pebble could reek on homegirls feet? Homegirl has a contract with DSW and Zappos! Do they understand that a scratch would ruin Homegirls money makers?! Don't be messin with my check, gravel path. -Overall, the path could be better manicured. The sidewalks are better managed at times than the boulevard path. Overgrown grass?! These weeds gonna land Homegirl in the ER during allergy season. That's the gist. Nice path, but 70's floor length bell bottoms are the only material that can keep you safe from gravel kicking up. read more

I grew up walking down this path - now I walk and sometimes jog the beautiful space, or bike the perimeter. Such nice landscaping and so many pretty houses to look at during the 3.75 mile round trip trek. The path is always busy, but not so busy that you won't find yourself alone with your thoughts and the trees and greenery. read more

Blackstone Boulevard is the perfect location for a morning or afternoon walk, jog, sprint, stroll. . . if you need the distance to accomplish something, this is the place for it! I park my car on Butler Ave near the Blackstone Park and catch the walking path at this end of the route. I walk a bit first and start running at the Lloyd Ave intersection of the path. From this point to the end of the path is 1.5 miles. . . making it a convenient training tool for a 5K as out and back makes 3 miles! Except for one small stretch of path made of pavement, the rest is a mix of small rocks and dirt. This type of surface is much more forgiving on the joints and has thus far prevented my dreaded shin splints from reoccurring. There is a great deal of shade and a slight breeze creating as much of an enjoyable environment as one can imagine while exercising. There are several intersecting streets crossing the path, though I find drivers are very respectful of those traversing it. I've only ever had to pause long enough for someone to wave me across. I highly recommend this path and look forward to continue training on it. read more

This path is a little haven for me. When I feel stressed or in need of a relaxing stroll or jog, I come here. The tree-lined roads and beautiful houses make it an unparalled experience. It is also adjacent to Lippit Park and Swan Point Cemetery, the latter another picturesque place to visit. Yes the path is gravelly, and it intersects roads, but I've never had an issue. The roads are not busy as most cars are going parallel to the path. I also like deviating from the path and taking some side streets to admire the most gorgeous houses and front yards. This is a gorgeous strip of land right here in the middle of the East Side, and I love it. Perfect for walks, runs, or even to plop down and read a book, this is a little slice of heaven that stretched the entire length of Blackstone Boulevard. Because the path is lined with gigantic old trees and the path itself id made up of pebbles and dirt, you get a feeling of being in the woods, even though traffic rambles by on either side between you and the lovely homes that line the boulevard. There are always people bustling about, power-walking in groups or quietly enjoying alone time. This is yet another fabulous public space within Providence - gorgeously natural, well maintained and open for all to enjoy. read more

Okay, so a lot of my friends who run all love coming here for their workout. This is like their go to place to go running. I've tried coming here a few times for a walk or a jog and just don't love it as much as they do. Firstly, it's always super busy which I don't like. I guess it would be a good place for women who want to feel safe running alone since there are so much people around. Secondly, I don't like that the path is gravel/unpaved. I prefer walking on a paved path. I feel that a paved one is much easier on my feet. Lastly, I don't like that you have to cross so many streets during your jog. Not that there are a ton of cars, but there can be quite a bit at times where you have to wait for cars to go by before you can cross. Parking here is good. There's plenty of street parking along the boulevard. I don't have a dog, but I see a lot of people walking their dogs here also so it seems like it would be a nice place for dog owners to walk their dogs. read more

I love this path and run on it at least once a week. It's a perfect three-mile loop: well shaded, not too hilly, excellent for people-watching and well-trafficked so it's safe. My favorite parts of this path though are the little extras that make it quirky and wonderful. 1. Shirley's Lost and Found box. On one of the benches, about halfway down the path is a lost and found box. If you've ever dropped or found anything on the path, put it in there and it will likely find its owner. 2. Stump seats. These are a new addition to the path, and there are more all the time. Look out for chair backs screwed into stumps along the path--there are at least two. https://www.facebook.com/StumpChair 3. The holiday tree. I'm not a big fan of christmas, but there's a tree at the Pawtucket end of the path that gets decorated every year. Starting around the beginning of December, people start adding decorations. By Christmas day last year, it was full. It's great fun to see people come together to make something festive. 4. The Spirit of Youth statue. Every time I run by this statue, it just seems so peaceful. It's in a little tree-lined alcove that makes it seems miles away from the city. I'm so glad we have this in Providence, and my only wish is that the city would add a water fountain to one end--hint hint. read more

This is such a beautiful walking path on the East Side of Providence. I'm pretty sure this might be one of Providence's best kept secrets. I do agree with others that it would be nice if the path was paved but the gravel adds a more "trail" feel to it. The roads that run parallel to the path have been recently paved and allow for plenty of parking, as well as the bike lanes. It's always great to drive through and see people getting out and enjoying the sights. The houses in the neighborhood are beautiful and thankfully the speed limit in the area is followed as well. read more

Great place for a gentle stroll or some vigorous exercise. This dedicated pedestrian path is located on a tree-lined median that runs through the center of Blackstone Boulevard on the East Side of Providence. There is a separate dedicated biking lane on the Blackstone which alleviates the distraction of having to jockey for safety against an oncoming cyclist. Despite the constant traffic (bike and vehicle) on either side of the path, the setting is peaceful, relaxing and picturesque. The folks that I've encountered are usually focused on doing their own thing but are generally quite friendly. The wide path is generous enough for at least four people to walk comfortably next to each other - or far apart. It is not circular path. You start at one end - and turn around and go back. I enjoy the teeny gravel and dirt composition of the path. The gentle crunch underfoot is soothing - and so comfy for jogging or walking. Not harsh on the tooties like some asphalt walking paths. It's a location favored by folks with dogs but any pet owners I've seen are responsible with keeping the pooches on a short leash and picking up after their pets. The sights are pleasant. Large oaks, striking architecture and historic stone walls are present the entire length of the path. Parking is available along the street. For those whose feet get weary, there are many benches along the way to rest. I think this spot is a great showcase for what PVD has to offer for those willing to take some time to soak it all in. read more

Beautiful path. Any day I make it here is a good one because it means I'm taking the time to slow down and appreciate the simplest pleasures in the world. On sunny days, expect families/puppies/happiness. (On rainy days/days following, it's still beautiful but the the path will be decently muddy). Serene and calm in the evenings. Also, unreal, the path leads to Three Sisters. What other path can claim that? If you have time, take a detour and check out the waterfront at Blackstone Park further east (google map it) for an even more gorgeous and beautiful walk. read more

This is a beautiful path to walk/jog on. It is dog-friendly and there are plenty of athletes on it at any given time. There are gorgeous, tall tries which line the path, which is grassy and dirt/gravel (not paved) and about 3 miles there-and-back. It makes for a good stroll after work or on a Saturday morning after the Hope Street farmer's market, which I often like to do together. read more

Heaven, year round heaven! Legally park your car, either around Butler Ave or on Blackstone Boulevard itself, and get ready for a lovely experience. Whether you are into a jog, a walk with your four legged friend, pushing a stroller, or a quick catch up chat with a friend, the boulevard is the place for you. At one end, you face the Lincoln School, with beautiful flowers and a bench to rest or stretch. Throughout the 1.5 mi track there are various benches, in memory of loves lost, and truly interesting trees and bushes. You get to jog by houses of grandeur, and also little houses that perfectly depict the artsy stylings of the 50's and 70's. At the other end of the walk will be a lovely park for little ones, generally accompanied by a lemonade truck or two. Extremely friendly and pet friendly (pet owners usually clean up after themselves) and there is a bike line on the paved road. read more

Oh Blackstone Boulevard, how I love thee and miss thee. When I lived over on Eighth Street, I was always over at the Boulevard walking or lying around on the grass on a blanket with a book, however; now that I live in the North End of the city, it's just not all that convenient for me to head over there anymore. Anyone who lives in Providence knows about BB and knows just how lovely it can be. They also know how insanely crazy busy packed full of walkers, runners, strollers (the ones that kids sit in too) lolly-gaggers, pacers and dog-walkers it can be... especially on a nice weather day. That having been said; if you're in a "let's take a stroll" kind of mood and it's a nice, sunny, semi-warm day, beware of the runners, as there will most likely be an overabundance of them and they will plow you over. Not ALL of the runners, but I've had a few close calls with plenty of them over the years. The Blackstone Boulevard walking path is approximately 1.5 miles (correct me if I'm wrong) from one end to the other. It's dedicated strictly for pedestrians only and those riding bicycles have their own lane(s) in the actual road itself. The boulevard is a beautiful sight to see; it's lined with large trees, flowering plants and of course million dollar mansions. There are also several park benches along the path for those people who want to take a break or sit back and take in all of the sights and sounds. If you haven't yet been to the Boulevard, I highly suggest to add it to your "must do" list for the upcoming Spring season. You won't be disappointed! read more

After jogging on a nice sunny day through this lovely Blackstone Blvd pathway, I will never opt to use the treadmill again. (This is of course within reason, given if the weather permits.) The Blackstone Blvd is a a beautiful spot to run, walk, jog or crawl on. The pathway acts as a median for the in-coming traffic. There is beautiful greenery on either side of the path, that provides just enough privacy from the busy streets without feeling like you've just entered a woodsy forest. The pathway is a nice straight run-through... no intimidating hills here. Perfect for those looking to get back in-shape without exhausting all your glutes and hamstrings. Or for those pushing toddlers in strollers avoiding crazy inclines that'll send you rolling backward from the force of gravity. I love the lively activity that this pathway attracts. I feel both motivated and safe gettin' my jog on in here. read more

Now I know little RI has it's problems.. every place does. Thats why it is so spirit lifting to have little gems like the Blackstone Boulevard Walking Path. I have lived in RI my whole life, and for the first 20 years of it, was in pretty close proximity to this great stretch fo green, and I guess I always kind if took it for granted. But the other day, after a particularly shitty day at work.. I went home and grabbed the dog and heading over to the boulevard to meet a friend, and just strolled.. and truly enjoyed it. It is nice to see people out just enjoying the fresh air and going for a stroll. The path is nice and wide and meanders down the center of the tree ined Blackstone Boulevard.. all of the joggers and walkers and bikers I have ever encountered are usually quick with a smile or a kind word. Just a nice place to take a walk. So get out for a stroll, you won't regret it. read more

My neighborhood has a 3 mile loop, but it doesn't even come close to the atmosphere of this run. I love that it's in the city, but it still feels and smells fresh. All you have to do is hope not to get behind a pair of moms pushing strollers, and you'll love 3.1 miles (there and back) of gradual rolling hills (I guess I wouldn't quite call them hills, but they do feel like them at times). Always easy parking along the street. Spot by Three Sisters after your walk/run for a nice sweet treat. I've also checked this out for snowshoeing in the winter, and it worked well for that too. You have to love an outdoor place that works in all weather. read more

I love the Boulevard path. I don't to Providence much these days, but when I do I make sure I "run the Bully." If you run on Saturday morning, start and finish at the Pawtucket end so you can enjoy the Farmer's Market, which is one of the best anywhere. Simply a great resource. read more

I live the Blackstone greenway for many reasons. Not only is the path lined with beautifully manicured grass, but it doesn't have many steep hills, there is a beautiful creek that runs right beside it and most of the trail is shady and stays cool. This is a great path for biking also. There are a lot of mothers with strollers and elderly walkers on this path. So, if you are looking for a relaxing walk or bike ride this is for you. This is not a great path is you are looking for an aggressive workout. Get to Blackstone and get your low to moderate workout on! read more

During the summer months my wife and I would take our beagle our for long strolls along the Blackstone Boulevard Walking Path. Lucy (the beagle) would be so happy sniffing every leaf along the way while my wife & I would casually talk about our day. This is the type of activity people say they did before mobile phones and flat screen television with over a thousand channels. Going outside - how simple. I did not give the Blackstone Boulevard Walking Path 5 Stars because the distance between garbage cans is considerable. I can't believe that this is only a half mile from my house and I only discovered it this week!! On Monday, I decided that the pup needed to get some of his energy out in a way that did not involve destroying my yard, so we went off in search of a good walking area. And boy did we find it! This walking path is just great! Walkers, runners, families, people sitting and reading in the sun; there is a spot for everyone! The pup made some new friends, and I got to see a whole area of town I had never seen before! The trees and other greenery are so pretty to look at, you can almost forget the traffic whizzing by. For a different view, look at the fancy-schmancy houses that are on either side of the path. The pup and I have been exploring the path every day this week, and I know it will be a regular destination for us, especially as the weather gets more consistently nice. The best part of the path- the tired pup who sleeps through the night now after walking and exploring for miles! ;-) read more

As an avid runner, dog walker and enthusiast of all things outside, the boulevard is my playground. Having run all around the city, this is by far my favorite spot for any season. While there are many obvious things to love about Blackstone Blvd, (beauty, dirt path), my favorite thing has to be the cast of characters I encounter as I run loop after 3.3 mile loop. Whether it's the guy in the construction vest waving at every car, the guy who runs in jeans (even on hot summer days) or the Brown track team, I love them all. It gets 5 stars for the people watching factor alone. It is among my favorite places to be in the city and a great setting for an early morning run to start your day, or an evening jaunt to finish it. My only complaint is that people drive like maniacs. Let me state for the record: IT'S NOT A TWO LANE ROAD! Other than that, 5 stars all the way! read more

This is a really great place for a walk or jog... anytime of the year! I even like walking on the sidewalks because sometimes during heavy traffic times the dirt can get on your shoes. Also, the info says it's two miles. It's actually 3.2 if you go one way and back. On Saturdays in the summer there is also a farmers market (Hope Street Farmers Market) in the morning! read more
