This local store is like a neighborhood version of Vans. It has a lot of Vans merchandise like sneakers, clothing, hats, etc....as well as other name brand sporting goods. They have a nice selection of skateboards for sale and they also do local maintenance on them. Civil was created by Guido Silvestri and Rob Asselin in 2006. After many years of working in retail, the two founders imagined a store concept outside the realm of the traditional skate/snowboard/surf shop. The vision was realized in 2007 when the first Civil location opened in East Greenwich Rhode Island. Since then they added stores in Providence and Westerly Rhode Island.....this particular one is on Westminster St, Providence downtown. Their product mix at each one of their stores varies to suite the three distinct locations: in the city (Providence), on main street (EG), and by the beach (Westerly). Civil also has a private label collection and they have been honored to collaborate on projects with elite brands including Nike SB and SLVDR. They support local ripping skateboarders and snowboarders, including the notorious Yawgoons. Since they opened, Civil has been involved in the local skateboard and snowboard community by hosting and sponsoring contests, demos, park cleanups, video premiers, and other cultural events. The staff is young and very hip. Mostly guys in their 20s that love skateboarding, so they know their stuff when asked questions. Speaking from a purely fashion standpoint this place is hidden gem for amazing T-shirts. Whenever I have bought anything--ANYTHING from this shop it is met with instant praise. The kids are pretty hands-off, nice and happy to help. If you need threads you can't get other places in providence-- come here. Oh yeah they have some skateboard stuff too, lol. read more

When you order a board you would hope they wouldn't throw in a damaged board when you are collecting a certain company. No customer service. Charges for shipping when website says free shipping. Sad business!! read more

Civil is a great skate shop that holds more than just skate stuff. They have a variety of shoes, clothes, hats, jackets, etc. I buy every deck here and the person working everytime is nice. (Jay pourier/Justin Healey) they have a wide variety of skateboard decks, trucks, wheels, bearings, and grip. They have everything you need! When I found the same boat much closer to me I called them to cancel my order and they charged me a "restocking fee" for a boat that had not yet been brought into the shop, or unwrapped. The fee I had to pay, over $260, is the charge when someone buys a boat, takes it home, and then returns it. I can understand a small penalty for "making" them write up a sales slip, but this was excessive.

Also loved that they have the little infused honey coffee/drink spot inside of the plant oasis. Of course a lot of the stuff is wood, like fences, cool light posts and mail box poles, huge and elaborate play sets for kids, nice sheds, gazebos and pavilions, tables, chairs and stools and my favorite, little wooden bridges. I've always wanted a bridge in my back yard, just wish I had a stream or river to put it over. Walpole also has some very cool and creative gates, arbors, cupolas and lattice thingies. If you actually make it inside the store you will see gigantic and very impressive looking bird houses. These aren't just little boxes nailed to a pole but a seemingly endless variety of shapes and sizes for everything from humming birds to pterodactyls. Lots of bird baths so the avians in the houses can stay clean and cool spheres, thermometers, wind chimes, garden critters and great looking weather vanes. Even high quality basketball hoops and backboards. All kinds of things that you probably never thought of but once you see will desperately desire. Some of the stuff you can take home in your pocket, other things you need a huge truck to move. I love going here just to look around, I seem to find new things every time. Sure, a lot of the stuff is basically useless and unnecessary and this isn't Wal-Mart, the prices aren't cheap. But if you are looking for a bird house that probably has more room than most people's homes, an baroque and ornate moon gate, a fat little Hotai Buddha, a lighthouse weathervane or a cool but totally useless and frivolous little bridge, this is the place.

Terrible store. They give all pairs of popular sneakers to their employees and their friends. The workers think they are so entitled and are SO rude, they do not care at all about their customers. Everything is SUPER overpriced because so few skaters actually shop here, they have to price gouge for every penny they can get.
