I have been walking this park for over 20 years and have watched it grow from a slightly sketchy wild patch of woods to a well maintained beautiful place with easy to walking trails that make you feel you are far from the city (well a little far). The park is split by a road that goes between the River Road and Butler Ave (Irving Ave can get you there heading towards the river). It is set off and not easy to find if you don't know about it. One half has wide easy to walk on paths that loop and can give some sense of being bigger than it's foot print. The other half is more challenging due to it still wild nature, the trails are footpaths that can be difficult due to rocks slopes and leaf litter, but still a great easy way to get some steps in with a little added cardio. You have to cross Irving Ave to enter the other side. Speaking of Cardio, there are dirt and log "steps" that bring you down to the water. Dogs are welcome but should be on a leash this is NOT A DOG PARK. I say this because I have had unleashed dogs lunge for me only to be reprimanded by said dogs ignorant owner for complaining in the dog park, sheesh. Please go, bring you doggie poo bags in and bring them back out! The park usually has bags at the sign as you enter the trails. read more

For a park that's in a major city like Providence, this park is super clean and well taken care of. It's a great park with nice wide paths and make you believe you are in the forest somewhere and not in a city. Not only do you get the quietness of a forest but also a great view of the Seekonk River. Very little road traffic , and if you like kayaking, there is a launching place into the river near here. There is also the start of the Blackstone walking path which is on Blackstone Blvd. All these places are dog friendly! read more

Blackstone Park Conservation District is a 45-acre natural woodland. It contains two ponds, York Pond and Hockey Pond, and some open meadow. We have been here many times for many events like bird watching, clean ups, night walks and even star gazing. It's a beautiful green space not far from Providence downtown where people can admire animals and plants. This park serves as a green buffer between city streets and the Seekonk River, reducing the amount of runoff that enters the river. With its varied topography, it supports a rich diversity of plants and wildlife habitats and is part of a larger regional wildlife corridor that includes the Blackstone River watershed and Narragansett Bay. Migrating birds stop by in Spring and Fall. In 2003, the park was rezoned a Conservation District through the creation of a new zoning category to protect environmentally sensitive open spaces. read more

Moses schools and Seekonk Blackstone Park, or more properly Blackstone Conservation District, is a roughly 45 acre chunk of land that lies right up against the Seekonk River. It was deeded to the city way back in 1866 by Amos Brown, the guy that was cofounder of Brown University along with a whole bunch of other things. Not a whole lot is known about the history of the land before it became a park or what exactly Brown was doing with it, but it certainly is a lovely place. Most of it is high on a hill over looking the Seekonk River and I'm sure the Brown family appreciated the beauty of the land as much as people still do today. Most of the land is wooded with simple but well kept walking paths through them. Certainly nothing strenuous but an extremely nice place for a stroll, especially on the parts by the river. Lots of people bring their dogs here and some are well behaved and others a bit overly friendly, just like the their owners. Lots of mountain laurel grow in this area and in the spring the delicate white flowers add to the interest of the land. It's nice that the area is still open and used by the public after all these decades. Not sure what people saw when they looked down from the hill a hundred years ago but I suspect it was just as pleasant back then as it is today. read more

I have to give these parks and trails props. For such a small space of land you can really get all up around and into the woods and actually make a good walk, run, or hike out of it and to be able to do this all so close to Wayland square? It's just a great thing to have close by. The water views and trails are perfect for short hikes/walks or connecting into one long outing. You may feel like you're going in circles at times but this is the perfect place to bring kids and dogs. It is also the perfect place to just unwind after a long day and just feel like you're out of the city a little bit. There are stairs and trails that go straight down to the water so you can make a few loops and go both up and down and make the outing as vigorous as you may want and also as mild and relaxing. The greatest thing about the park though is that it's such a quick walk from the park to that long blackstone walkway that goes by the cemetery and ends at Lippett Park. So if for any reason you wish to walk for longer, or run, you can just hop on over to that trail (it's almost attached) and disappear into that flat walk. This is all just perfect for me because a lot of the parks in RI and MA are actually HUNTING ZONES at times where people are SHOOTING THINGS and I just don't love the idea of hiking or walking in a place that I may actually get shot accidentally. So for hunting season this is prime. There is not enough room for people to hunt in these woods so it's all good. The reason I'm giving this a five is because if it wasn't here I probably wouldn't like this area so much. Blackstone Park and Blackstone Trail actually add a lot to the city and I use these trails often, as do many others! read more

I thought it'd be. Abteer park to walk around since we just ate. Instead, there were trails in the woods which we were not dressed for. There's not really paved trails at all. The views along river Rd were nice but again, no paved trails along the river. Overall, I'd try another park before returning to this one. Lots of people with dogs though. read more

I am so embarrassed to say that I've lived in Providence for six years, on the East Side no less, and never knew this little woodland haven existed. Shame on me! This park is beautiful, peaceful, and absolutely precious. Running along the river, you feel like you're miles away from civilization as the paths have that naturally worn, lovingly preserved feel and there's very little signage throughout the park. The trees are tall and old, with plenty of wildlife scampering about and thousands of silkworms dangling from above. It's just splendid, really. The perfect place for a leisurely stroll, an adventure with your dog or even an ideal afternoon of fishing, I am so completely thrilled I now know this nature preserve exists a short walk from my home. A treasure, for sure! read more

These waterview lined trails are a beautiful oasis in a usually bustling city. Wear your hiking shoes or good sneakers and go exploring! It is very hard to get lost in these woods, and you'll always feel safe because you will see other friendly faces. These trails are dog friendly, safe for little ones, but not stroller friendly. The park between Patterson & Angel is small and perfect for a quiet walk, whereas the one on Parkside is IDEAL for those with dogs. This park allows the four legged friends to run around leash free - and even boasts a big green space for you to play fetch. Parking is just along the street, and make sure to be kind to the neighbors by not parking in front of their driveways. There is a little pond hidden in the woods, as well as an old dam, and letterboxes as well as geocashes. read more

Nice park, nothing extraordinary. There was a sign that said "No dogs allowed in park" but like 50 feet from that there was a woman with 2 dogs off leash, so nobody seems to be enforcing that sign. And although I'm definitely the type to bring my dog places he's not really supposed to be, I at least keep him on a leash just in case. So when I'm passing by I might go into the park but I don't see myself coming across town to hang out here. read more

If you're just visiting RI, HIGHLY recommend adding this place on your to do list. For runners it's a great place for a light jog, for non runners it's a great place for a leisurely stroll. If you're deathly afraid of dogs though - prepare to see a few who are unleashed and roaming about with their owners. Lots of locals like to walk their dogs here, although for me this wasn't an issue. read more

Some groups who come here to study the birds, etc are HORRIBLY nasty and DANgEROUS to dogs off the leash. I had an incredibly DISTUrBING incident that happened today with my puppy. An elderly gentleman leading the group decided it would be appropriate to scream and chase my puppy away from an area they were standing around, and not one member of that wretched group tried to help me. He chased my puppy towards an area with cars, terrifying him and causing a ridiculous scene We come here nearly everyday and my dog is well behaved, well socialized and the sweetest little 26 lbs you'd ever want to meet. He loves it here, but apparently not everyone loves him. It was very upsetting being told I'm a "bad owner" and needed to "control my animal." This man embarrassed me, scared me and my puppy and made himself look like an ass. Honestly I should have called the cops it was so upsetting. So, if you see these people, go the other way. They're not nice. read more

Great place to bring the dog for off the leash fun with other dogs. Good people here usually. I will note that if I find whoever is leaving the tacks on the ground at the entrances I'm going to leave you right where I find you, I'm not calling the cops, I'm not going to say a word, its going to be simply lights out and when you come out of your coma and wonder why you have no movement below the neck anymore and a machine has to breathe for you, you can thank me. read more

This is a great park, but it is _not_ a dog park. Dogs must be on leashes at all times, everywhere in the park. The City of Providence is enforcing leash laws in the park, after dangerous encounters have occurred. read more

This is such a great little park tucked away on the East Side that you don't really know about unless you live in the area. I suggest starting on Paterson & Rhode Island Ave's where the playground is, you'll find a map with the various trails and sections of park. It's good for dog walking but I always have to watch out for ticks there. It's a really neat web of paths which bring you down to the river and past the nice neighborhoods. The paths are rather well maintained and its a great little adventure to kill a couple of hours. Again, watch out for ticks! read more

Another wonderful park in Providence. It is a beautiful little park on the bluffs overlooking the river. It is dog friendly (officially on leash only but I have never seen it enforced and there are plenty of dogs off leash). The road along the river is nice for a walk too. read more

This is a very nice park with beautiful landscape. I am always looking for new places to take my 2 dogs and stopped at this park as it was listed as a dog park under yelp. I saw about 10 dogs there most were off leash and I always try to find places to keep my dogs off the leash as much as possible. Just be mindful if you own a dog and want them to run free it is a great place but not everybody shares that idea. I did get a few looks from people thinking "how dare you let those animals off the leash. It is not strictly a dog park so you may encounter people that prefer your dog on a leash. If your dog is well behaved, ignore these ignorant people and enjoy your walk with your four legged buddies. read more

It would be a wonderful place to walk if there were no dogs. That's the reason it gets 3 stars instead of 5. Actually I was under the impression that unleashed dogs were forbidden; I must walk it one more time to check this, but I really though I saw signs asking for dogs to stay off the replanted grounds where humans are not allowed. Wonderful spot to take the pup and enjoy some fresh air. I've only gone in the Winter so far, so I am very interested to check the space out in the future seasons. Just watch out for the yellow snow because it's everywhere. It's quite large for the area being so close to the city, and it's kind of cool because part of the park is on a hill so you can look down upon the Seakonk river. My dog enjoys running around and playing with the other dogs and having a safe place to hang out. I'm pretty sure off-leash is ok, because I don't think I even saw one four-legged-friend with one on. This is awesome because there aren't too many spots around during the Winter to let my dog off leash in the city as the dog parks are pretty much snowed in. I love how close it is to my house and a quick stroll up Blackstone Blvd gets me and the pooch there in no time. We sure do live a lovely state with lots of green space to enjoy. read more

Great place to take your dogs or children. It's safe and clean here. Even a decent biking trail if the weather is appropriate.

When I arrived at the park there were about 20 dogs running off leash. They seemed to be having a great time. I wasn't sure where to park, until I saw a sign that said no parking after 9 PM. So, I figured that was the place,as I was about 6 PM. I choose to keep my dog on a leash for her safety. Anyway we explored and saw all the wonderful work being done and all the rules intended for the safety of the dogs, as well as the preservation of the park. It's great how they have worked out a way for people and dogs to enjoy the park, while making it better. As it neared 9PM, I made my way towards my car. A large man came very quickly towards me, and I admit I was a bit afraid, not knowing his intentions. I am a small woman,and am disabled, having had a broken back and neck and now suffer a permanent spinal injury. I was there with my service dog and that was about the entire day for me. Anyway, as he came very quickly toward me, my dog barked a warning, as she is trained to do. I told her it was ok, as he stopped. She immediately obeyed, as trained. He began to harass me, and continued for quite some time. Telling me the other dogs were allowed there, but mine was not. He delayed me until just past 9pm,then said his wife would call the police. After saying I was on private property, threatening whatever for that, when the sign clearly stated otherwise. He threatened to set his dog on me. His wife yelled that my dog had played too long, evidently she believes in neglect of animals. They just kept insulting my and threatening me, even as I drove away. It was a beautiful evening that ended so sadly. What is wrong wrong with people,who I had admired before meeting, that they would want to make life any more sad and difficult for a disabled woman clearly doing no wrong, and simply trying to enjoy an evening in the park.
