At this Whale Tea location at least, you order and pay at a kiosk and they tell you when your drink is ready. I went with one of The Whale Tea's signature drinks -- The Whale Crystal. The kiosk pic for this order showed horizontal blue, white and orange-brownish layers. The description said it was coconut milk and peach jelly. When they handed the tea to me, there was no blue layer. Just a white and orange-brownish layer. That was disappointing since I was largely going for the visual. I wouldn't think that I had to add something to my order to achieve the blue layer since it was the pic for this order. But as I said, I'm not experienced with Boba Tea. I'm sure the tea was fine for it was, but I didn't really connect with it. That sometimes happens when you try new things. The coconut milk layer tasted on point. The peach jelly had the texture of small gummy pieces. It tasted fine. I would try the Whale Tea Again, but not this drink. 4 Stars

We had gotten matcha, brown sugar and the Oreo slush boba. The matcha wasn't bad. The matcha was perfectly blended and smooth (which I love because some places don't blend their matcha thoroughly) but its taste wasn't the best matcha we've had. The brown sugar wasn't bad either it tasted good but felt a little watered down. The Oreo slush boba was delicious and I have no comments saying otherwise. The service was excellent and the employees even helped us decide what to get. They were very helpful and kind and greeted us immediately. The ambiance was great and it was decorated with adorable signs, a beautiful whale mural, whale squishies, and lights. Many seating options and two kiosks to order as well. Overall, even though we weren't absolutely thrilled with our drinks there are many other options and we look forward to coming back soon to try something new.

OK here's why: Migoto offers an exhaustive menu of truly unusual boba/smoothie/slushie/coffee drinks as well as exotic (mostly East Asian) packaged snack products. As I've ordered from Migoto an average of once a week this past summer, you'd think I'd have tried them all. You'd be wrong. This is because I can't bring myself to order anything but their absolutely phenomenal White Peach Dreams. God bless Migoto, long may it run. Best boba shop on the planet.

The space itself is beautiful--very minimal with white floors, high vaulted ceilings, and a really open feel. They have a retail wall on the left with some gorgeous ceremonial tea sets imported from Japan that I spent way too much time looking at. As for the drinks, you can tell they aren't cutting corners. They use ceremonial grade matcha from the Mizoguchi family (who apparently have 400 years of history in Kumamoto), and everything is organic. I tried two different vibes: * Golden Hour: This was a standout. It's a mix of coconut, turmeric, ginger, and some warming spices like nutmeg and cardamom. It had a nice little kick from the peppercorn. * Kokuta Hojita Latte: I got this with almond milk. The Japanese black sugar gives it a really deep, toasted sweetness that isn't cloying. The staff was super friendly and nailed the order. Also, side note: they have a modern touchless POS system, which made paying quick and easy. My only gripe--and it has nothing to do with the shop itself--was the seating. It's pretty limited to begin with (a sofa, some small tables, and one Japanese Ceremonial Table). Unfortunately, the "Zen" vibe was a bit ruined by someone hogging the entire ceremonial table with her laptop and books while other people were literally standing around waiting for a spot. Definitely not very zen behavior! Overall, it's a cool spot for a high-quality matcha fix. Just maybe don't expect to lounge for hours if it's busy.
