I've been spoiled by the SF Bay Area's boba and was afraid I wouldn't be able to find any boba in this area that lived up to my lofty standards. I'm very happy to report that The Whale Tea isn't just good for a boba place in Connecticut -- it's good, period. The boba came fresh and warm, and had the right bouncy consistency. Both drinks we ordered were great. I loved the look of the Whale Crystal with the light blue color on top, and the combo of the coconut milk flavor with the texture of the drink was unique. The Oreo creme brulee tasted exactly how I hoped it would -- there was a crispy melted sugar layer on top and the drink itself had a nice thickness to it. I'm definitely coming back to this shop again! Misc notes: This place didn't ask our preferred ice and sugar levels, which I actually like because I get paranoid I'm picking the wrong amount. First visit here for some iced tea. There are certainly many bubble, black ,oolong, and fruit teas available, I did not order at the kiosk as I had a few questions. The staff person was busy making a tea when I arrived so no acknowledgement, and when she was done she just called out a name but it was not for me. She seemed perturbed I had a question or wanted to place an order. I do wish that the dairy free options could be identified on the menu as so many of the choices contain dairy. I ended up ordering the polemo lemon iced tea, which she had originally to me was sweetened and I told her that I did not want it sweetened. So she told me it would taste sour. Got it any way. The tea wasn't sour but also not something I would get again. Maybe a straight green iced tea, but the prices are high at $5.95. I am not sure if that was a small, medium or large as I was never asked about the size. The establishment and restroom were clean. Stopped by here today after a boba craving hit - my Mom got the taro milk tea with boba and I got my favorite Thai milk tea with boba. The taro was the best I've had because it's made with real taro instead of the usual purple powdery stuff. Boba was fresh and so chewy! I went with my niece on the Monday before Thanksgiving (2022) and she ordered a brown sugar ginger milk tea, hot with boba and it was good. But the one star is because the worker there stole a fifteen percent tip from my niece. The worker took my niece's order then had my niece process payment on the screen. When the tip message came up, the worker turned the machine back around and independently chose a fifteen percent tip herself. To be clear, this employee tipped herself without being given permission. And the reason we know this employee did indeed tip herself is that my niece had a set amount of money in her cash app account and the tip caused her account to be overdrawn. Something that my niece was trying to avoid. While I understand hourly workers often deserve to receive tips for their hard work, it is NEVER acceptable for a worker to tip themselves and steal from a customer. read more

I usually love this place. The counter people are usually so kind and the tea is great. My experience today was weird though. I made a simple request to put the ice in the cup first so the bubbles were on top of the ice, since I have a hard time getting to the bubbles at the bottom of the cup. The counter girl didn't understand me because of a language barrier but some older guy came up front, listened to what I was asking, and rudely told me no "because the bubbles weren't going to float". That wasn't the reason I asked for it and I explained my reason to him. He still had an attitude and told me no that he couldn't do it. It's not a big deal but there was no reason to be rude about it and changing the order of when ice is put in a cup isn't rocket science. If I return and he's there, I'm walking out. Addicted! Since we started working from home, instead of NYC, we've missed our daily bubble tea. We started to drive 30-40 minutes weekly (or more often) to get our bubble tea fix. It's so good! I really like the passionfruit and grapefruit bubble teas with mango popping bubbles. The rolled ice cream is also delicious! Their tapioca boba is always perfect - never mushy. This place gets pretty busy, but they work really quickly to get through the long lines. We've been coming here for about a year and we've only had to wait a long time (40 minutes) once. Usually we're in and out pretty quickly. We also have Papa Tea in Danbury, but I prefer Whale Tea, so that's where we go. BEST boba in the area!!! I'm from Texas (Dallas and Houston) where there's a plethora of bubble tea shops. I have not found one in CT since moving here back in December... Then I found The Whale Tea. I discovered them during COVID-19, so I have not actually been in the store, but the staff take great precautions as far as any human interaction. Our order is always out in a timely manner, and everything I've tried so far is great! I highly recommend the brown sugar milk tea, the milk foam Jasmine tea, the mango slush, and the peach, mango, and lychee fruit teas. Their boba is the best I've found in the surrounding area - perfectly chewy and sweet. I get all my drinks half sweet, and it's perfect. I am so unbelievably excited that I found this place, everyone should give it a try! They have ice cream, too, but I have yet to try it. Tl;dr. Fantastic bubble tea and great service. I've been to many bubble tea places and what makes this place different compared to others in the area is that the boba is super fresh. I could feel how warm it was in my cup which was a good sign. The boba is so soft and sweet compared to other places which was also another pleasant surprise. I got the brown sugar milk tea and my mother got a grapefruit milk tea. I haven't had a brown sugar milk tea before, just regular milk tea and it was pretty good and solid. My mother wanted her usual honeydew tea and this place was surprising in the sense that they did not have it. They have different flavors compared to other places. Well this is the second time I've ordered from here and the second time I've been disappointed. This time I ordered from the kiosk and ordered incorrectly. When I questioned the order I was told "oh yeah you're supposed to do this", "you'll be fine." I said this isn't what I wanted but nothing further happened despite expressing my disappointment and I left feeling unhappy. They didn't offer to fix it. I started to walk out but then rather than walking out disappointed again I went up and said this isn't what I wanted, I just want it the regular way. The staff said ok and rang up the drink. As a business this is your opportunity to make your new customer happy by fixing the misunderstanding and encouraging your customer to come back but instead I felt uncomfortable and dissatisfied. The Whale Tea is one of the high tier boba places in the area. We got the brown sugar milk and the matcha milk. Boba comes separately but is it worth it! The boba is fresh and you can tell as soon as you hold the cup the bottom is warm due to it being cooked to order. The bubble teas are definitely less artificial tasting and less sweet than most places. They let the flavor of the tea shine through which is great. Its around 5.75 for a medium size cup but pretty standard price. read more
