I'm between 3 and 4 stars for this place. I REALLY like the backyard in the warmer months, but the inside has a good vibe to it as well. They have iced coffee on tap as well as kombucha on tap. Their coffee is very good. The only negative here, however, is the cost. A large iced coffee goes for $5.50. The same size coffee is $4 at CUP. The large is an actual large, but paying more than $5 just for iced coffee is a bit excessive. read more

A coffee shop that serves alcohol too, and food. Reminded me of a genuine French cafe, without the French people or food. I spent several hours here on a rainy day. I had no alcohol, a few cups of coffee and did some work. It was comfortable and friendly. I'm not in williamsburg that often, but I was invited to a webseries screening in this cafe. They had an interesting lineup of cocktails on the menu, but I had already pregamed at another bar before I arrived. I opted for a chai latte and was pleasantly surprised to see that they will booze your coffee. My friend and I have been wanting to try nitro cold brew coffee ever since we heard about it earlier this summer, thus we were excited when we saw it on the menu. What is nitro cold brew coffee? It is literally nitrogen-infused coffee. This creates a smooth drink with lower acidity than traditional coffee. The nitrogen also gives it an effervescent quality, which may sound unappealing but is quite nice. I would liken nitro cold brew coffee to stout beer. Further adding to the stout beer similarity is the fact it is served on tap. It is rather pricey $4.50 for a small and $6 for a large, but it is not outrageous compared to the price of most things in the area. Anyway, we were only in the area for two days but we made sure to stop by The West each morning. The place has a very laid back/casual/hipster feel and the people who work there were all very friendly and quick. What more could you ask for early in the morning? The place also offered several breakfast sandwiches, desserts, bagels, and several hard ciders and beers, however, we never got a chance to try them, so I can't attest to their tastiness. I love doing work at the West on weekends as there is always SOME space to sit with a laptop. A few tables but lots of bar/counter seating. Decent coffee and lots of beers on tap. I used to adore this place and came here at least once a week - up to several times a week - for the past year. I liked how the spot could rotate as a coffee shop by day and a bar or pop up restaurant by night. However, this week they've decided to remodel it into more of a full-time bar. They took away all of the comfortable seating. The low tables are gone - replaced with a long bar. The music is loud. It's not a good place to work anymore, even during the day time. I like the concept of this place, coffee during the day / beer at night. This is a great place to do some light wifi / internet dependent work (free wifi). If you are a developer or need to pair mobile / tablet devices with your local instance, this is not the place for you. Their wifi is set up with extra security which prevents others from viewing your machine, but also hinders developers. I am unable to view my local IP via my iPhone browser, even though they are both using the same wifi network. In addition, if you really need to concentrate on your work....keep walking. This place is busy, lots of meetings / chatting happening and the music is loud! Even after I ask that the music is turned down (barista: "I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you. This is a great neighborhood coffee shop/bar. It's not in my neighborhood, alas, but if it were I would probably come here all the time. Instead I make the trek from Flatbush every other Tuesday for Pub Quiz Night run by my friend Yancy D. It's a rumpusly good time for a Tuesday night. I used to like coming to West. It's just a couple blocks from my apartment, so it is my default neighborhood cafe. However, I went in yesterday, and they've remodeled, removing all the seating along the wall and replacing it with a tall bar. it seems they're looking to capitalize on their status as a bar. A much less comfortable space to work. Probably makes more sense for them financially, but I'm sad to see another good wifi cafe bite the dust. (Remember Second Stop, Houe of Small Wonder?) Also, the only baked good they had were packaged vegan cookies for $5.00! $5.00 for a friggin' cookie? I have been here about 6 times on my way to acupuncture. The employees are very friendly and accommodating and I would give the service 5 stars, alone. They brighten my day, each time, with their great, upbeat attitude. My first time here, I got some food (a burrito, I believe). I would go for the coffee, which is excellent, or the people-watching which is fun. The food was meh (though I would be willing to try something else another time) . It was an added nice surprise that my 2nd time here, I saw my former barista of many years (from my local Carroll Gardens coffee place) was working here. This is a great place to get work done. Went this afternoon and spotted a small spot in the back to park for a few hours. The WiFi was great, coffee was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. The back patio is quaint and comfy. The background music today was pretty helpful in keeping my train of thought while I worked. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's also a good spot for an informal meeting. The other member of my party had an easy time getting here - great location. Highly recommend this place. read more
