this place is an incredible oasis in southeastern ohio. who would have thought a quaint vegetarian restaurant could be so well executed right here in little ol' lancaster? the bowls are vibrant, nutritious, and so tasty. their coffee game is strong too. this is one of my favorite places to catch up on computer work (though i wish their hours made it possible for me to do that more frequently). my friends with kids love to come here too for the incredible inside treehouse and other hands-on homemade toys for all to enjoy. this is a family owned and operated business. it will warm your heart while nourishing your body. this place just feels good! read more

THEY REFUSE TO WEAR MASKS! We went in today and the entire staff (of 5-7) were maskless and working shoulder-to-shoulder. I've done some digging and it seems their refusal to wear masks is intentional and permanent. Ohio currently has a mask mandate in public places to safeguard the public (and workers) during the raging pandemic. Refusing to wear a mask is illegal and is also dangerous and deeply irresponsible. (If we weren't vaccinated we would currently be very worried about our health.) There is absolutely no scientific reason to justify anti-mask views. Furthermore, noncompliance sets a terrible example for other businesses and citizens. Food at The Well has always been good, but no one can ethically support a business with this kind of dangerous, radical, selfish, irresponsible policy. This one-star review will be accompanied by a letter to the state and county Departments of Health. I love this place. Not only is the food healthy and ethically sourced, but it's tasty! Their kale salad is life changing. They need to have a create your own salad option! I'd be in there everyday. I also love their use of reusable metal straws and recycled paper products. I'm very passionate about decreasing waste production and now I have a yummy place to eat with a guilt free conscience. (I'd love to help set up a composting process with The Well if they don't already practice composting food waste.) Anyway, I loved the mint lemonade kombucha and gluten free bread. I wasn't a fan of the buckeye bars though. It's got a great ambiance and the employees are the sweetest. Always willing to answers questions and accommodate your needs. This place is great. Great service, great atmosphere and most importantly great food. We came here for a late lunch after hiking in Hocking Hills. The wife and I split the nourishing bowl and the spreads sampler. It was difficult to decide what to order because everything looked good. The spreads sampler is a good shareable plate if you want to try a variety of vegetables and fruits with dips. (spreads) They also have a variety of desserts that looked really good. The loveliest discovery on my trip to Ohio was this beautifully run coffee/lunch spot. I arrived to get the best dark chocolate mocha and left to thrift Lancaster; I had to return an hour later for lunch as the menu and good cheer of all who worked their, as well as dining there was infectious. Even if you are not gluten-free, the menu is divine. The attention to every little thing is stunning. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. The decor sublime. This cafe is absolutely wonderful - Classy, calm, nourishing, and intentional to every last detail. My fiancé and I were driving to hocking hills and needed to stop for food. I was concerned about finding food because of my dietary restrictions, celiac (gluten allergy) and lactose intolerance. We found this place on a whim and are SO GLAD we checked it out! You walk into a beautiful space- hardwood floors, simple, clean design with open concept, local arts and crafts on the walls... They have an espresso bar, as well as organic smoothies and bowls. I just love this place. It's a bit pricey however it's worth it. And there's no doubt you get what you pay for. Which seems to be good quality wholesome food. I Love their kale salads. And today I enjoyed some type of pita with a roasted asparagus in it. I was a little apprehensive but delighted once I tried it. This is not a fast food restaurant. The service, however leaves something to be desired. I was not welcomed by anyone upon my entrance and the man who took my order didn't seem very friendly. Literally some of the best food I've ever had, yet SO. SIMPLE. I intend to start my own cafe one day and was very inspired after visiting the well. I was going to get the spreads sampler, but they only had one pita left (we came at about 2:30, close is at 3 so that was totally understandable) and my husband wanted the veggie pita, so I got the nourishing bowl instead and I was not disappointed. The service was good, I am a waitress so I absolutely understand the 30 mins before close vibe... all in all, I really hope we make it back to Lancaster soon JUST so I can try more of their food. Not just a pita. This is not the flat hard cardboard pita you've had all your life. This is fresh flavorful house made bread in the style of a pita. I stopped in on March 20th at noonish and got the Nourishing Bowl with the organic sprouted sesame ginger tofu. As a decades vegetarian whose eaten in NYC, Europe etc. I found this establishment to be among the best that I've had the pleasure to patronize. The ingredients were amazing, the vegetables and seasoned tofu was fresh, and served beyond what I could have imagined. The bowl was plentiful and well presented in a to-go container. Amazing! What a find! I was looking for a coffee roaster, and found that with much, much more. Wonderful, fresh organic food & coffee (french press), AND with the major bonus of gluten free desserts. I hit the jackpot! I am not vegan, but am gluten free. I also love the indoor play area & wood fort for kids... what a great & unique concept for the caliber of this venue. Adults have a meeting place to visit friends with great food & drink while kids/grandkids can play together. (Review written by my wife) We sought out a restaurant on our route that fits our "Nutritarian" way of eating (drfuhrman.com), and found The Well and decided to try it. My husband and I both LOVED the choices we made. I had the Strawberry Garden Kale Salad. It was perfect and amazing! It almost had TOO many strawberries, if you can imagine such a thing. It was loaded with flavor and packed with healthy nutrients, and a nutritious no-oil 'dressing'. My husband had the Thai Yum-Yum Bowl, and he raved about it all throughout the day; it was SO full of flavor and had such a wonderful combination of healthy ingredients. It was actually more than he could finish. We also liked that they have a house-made almond milk option. The ambiance was nice, and somewhat minimalistic, which we love. There was a play area in the back for moms with little ones, which was very much utilized while we were there. Moms were sitting on the floor eating their lunch, while holding their baby and/or letting their toddler play, and visiting with other young mothers. The restaurant was very clean, efficiently run, gave us super-fast service, and had a friendly atmosphere. This is a great place to enjoy a cup of really good coffee, from French press to latte, in an old downtown building with character. The food is also excellent and locally sourced, with a changing menu reflecting what's in season. I enjoyed the kale salad, and shared a great hummus plate. I stopped for a late lunch commuting home from Lancaster to Columbus. Telling my husband about the meal when I got home he said I overused the word "amazing." The ZLT (zucchini, lettuce and tomato) sandwich was this wonderfully tangy zucchini spread that was almost like hummus with capers mixed in, on a soft delicious (gluten free) ciabatta. It came with a side of kale salad that was so much better than I expected, with delicious viniagrette, blackberries and pecans, I was sad when it was gone.
