    Welk Resort grounds

We've been coming here for years but our recent experience was disappointing . I booked a week stay via Interval International Getaways. They wouldn't let us check in on Sun. Jan. 25th despite having my confirmation email with check-in instructions because I have remarried & my new married last name ID didn't match the reservation. Interval International & Marriott Vacation Club couldn't assure them that I am who booked it because they are closed on Sunday afternoons by check-in time PST. We were not dealt with compassionately & were treated like criminals who were trying to steal my identity. We were forced to pay for lodging elsewhere that evening. The next morning, we spoke with Interval International & they sent a new booking confirmation with my new legal name to me & to the Welk resort. We were finally able to check in. Interval International told us that the resort could have easily resolved the matter by letting us check-in, charging us one night & then resolving things in the morning when Interval International was open. Sadly, that isn't how the Welk resort handled it. Fast forward to later after we finally were allowed to check in, my husband explained to Luiza, a manager, what had transpired on Sunday afternoon and how frustrated we were. Luiza was kind & offered a $100 credit to attempt to smooth over the botched check-in. That was all good until we checked out & the folio revealed that we were never given the credit. No one at the resort will let us speak with Luiza now and keep telling us that she's unavailable and will call us. That call has never come. It saddens me that I now longer can trust that we will have reliable & trustworthy customer service at the Welk Resort. Lawrence Welk would be turning over in his grave if he could see how we were treated by management and the check-in staff. On the other hand, the pool staff was great & Theo made everyone feel welcome and appreciated.

People, stop complaining!! This resort IS A TIMESHARE COMMUNITY! Those of us who own timeshares know the drill. This resort is now owned by Hyatt and like other hotel chains such as Wyndham, Marriott, Hilton, and Disney, these professionals are improving the Timeshare Industry and reducing the amount of "scams" out there. OK, I'm biased, as I own a timeshare in Fort Lauderdale and in Maui, and I've been exchanging for decades! For those who "take the tour", do your homework first or stay home! Now, back to the Resort. It's gorgeous. It's HUGE! It has TWO 18-hole golf courses on the property (did I mention it's huge?). There are several villa designs and they cannot guarantee location. There are 8 pools, a fitness center, a Broadway-type theater (open to the public), and a sit down restaurant. It's inland from San Diego (a 45-minute drive into the hills), but a 20 minute drive down I-15 to Escondido, where there are an abundant of restaurants and places to eat and party.

This was my first time staying at the Hyatt Welk. I will return. The grounds are beautiful. The property is very spacious. I arrived early on a Friday morning and was allowed to check in. My room overlooked a golf course. The unit I stayed in had a separate bedroom from the living/dining room. My room had a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, A/C, and plenty of storage space. I was pleased with the accommodation. The Welk is very family-friendly. If I wanted to be picky, I could say that the resort looked a little tired and worn. But that did not bother me. My only major complaint was the 10:00 check- out time. I am used to Hyatt properties allowing me to have a 2 o'clock checkout time.

First of all... This resort is located in a beautiful area with great views...from MOST units. The Resort is generally well maintained and the staff friendly and helpful. I have owned in LEDO resort organization for 30+ years. Although my property is the Desert Oasis in Cathedral City, CA, I regularly exchange my week for the Escondido location. This week, we were assigned a 1 BR unit #3492 in the Spyglass Hill section of "Villas on the Green" area. Not the worst unit, but damn close to it. This unit is the lowest sq. footage available within the resort and not only do I have to climb 2 flights of stairs to my unit, it is at the far end of the parking area. The "Villas" area apparently are the "low-rent" district within the resort. We have HAPPILY stayed in "Harmony Hill", "Melody Hill" and "Broadway Hill" areas, and been completely satisfied with accessibility and view. This is our second time in "Villas" with an equally dissatisfied experience. Mind you, I am comfortable one arrived within my unit, but EVERYWHERE to go within the resort and surrounding areas is a 2 flight stair climb (each way) and a 1/8 mi. walk to our car (each way)...not acceptable to an aging senior. I intend to speak with management today to express my displeasure, and will update this review accordingly after that meeting.

This place needs to have higher ratings since the rooms are nice with everything you would need in an apartment style stay.

We came just for the day and it was worth every penny! I love how they allow you to leave and come back that's always nice. I highly highly recommend her! Omg i have never had a massage that good! She worked on the areas i told her i had tension and the oil they used was so delicious! It had juniper and it was just magical. We'll definitely return!

Golf course maintenance crews are up and at it, around 6:30 in the morning(!!). Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep and, when asked to change rooms, they were booked and had nothing available for us. As for dining... "room service" is a joke where you order online, get charged $40 for them to bring it to your room and, it's cold by the time it gets there. We had Easter brunch at Vue which was just ok. I got the eggs Benedict which, when cut open, revealed clear runoff of barely cooked egg - instantly made my hunger disappear. My husband's breakfast, the chorizo scramble, and son's breakfast, pancakes, were totally fine and edible. For the amount of money it is to stay here, I think it's 1000% overrated and we'll skip it next time we're in SD, for sure. There's really no need to come here.

This is for the Spa…read more.. The spa opens at 7 AM and there I was. I came in through the gates of the gated community and parked in the self parking lot at the spa. Waited in front for five minutes and the doors opened! I felt like putting my face against the window while I waited and say, "open, open, open". I was greeted by a lovely young woman who checked me in and walked me around the grounds to show me around. As I came so early, I had the place to myself for the first two hours. I used the gym, took a swim, went in a couple of Jacuzzis until my girlfriends arrived at 9:30 AM. I'm more of an introvert, so it was perfect. Altogether, we took a yoga class at the beautiful yoga pavilion. We sat by the pool and had a lovely lunch. The food was excellent, including the complementary treats and banana bread. The only negative about the pool was that we were told if we left for more than 20 minutes our belongings would be removed. We couldn't hold our chairs for the day. That was news to us. It was a warm 90° day on a Friday in March and the community and hotel is allowed to use the spa grounds and they all showed up. Every lounge chair was full. Note to self: come Monday through Thursday. The massage: I'm going to say it's one of the best massages I've ever had in my life (and I've been to other five star spas). Pure bliss. Jackie was my masseuse. She listened to me when I asked for stronger pressure and then from there, I went into another world of goodness. She had such love in her eyes when it was all done. This is the most expensive massage I've ever had in my life. Around $400 for a 60 minute massage (with tax and tip) not including lunch. But treating ourselves once in a while is worth it. We felt like we were princesses. Yes, we'll be back. Maybe a while from now to save up our pennies, but we will be back.

Beautiful Grounds, But Not the Five-Star Experience I Expected…read moreI visited Rancho Valencia on my birthday expecting a true five-star experience, and while there were genuinely lovely moments, the overall visit fell short of what a resort at this level should deliver. A few things worth knowing before you book: they do not offer a day pass. Access to the resort is granted by booking a service through their spa, which is fine in principle. What's not fine is their pricing transparency. The rates listed on their website are not what you'll actually pay. Pricing changes based on demand, time of day, and availability. I received two different booking confirmations for the same treatment at two different prices, neither of which matched what was on their site. When I asked at check-in, they explained their dynamic pricing model casually, as if it were common knowledge. It isn't, and it should be disclosed at the time of scheduling. No one mentioned it when I called to book. The check-in staff was cordial, but the energy made it clear they were sizing me up. It was subtle and perhaps unintentional, but noticeable enough to color the start of my day. The property itself is genuinely beautiful. Lush grounds, a cold plunge, multiple pools, and access to yoga and fitness classes throughout the day. The yoga class I attended was listed as intermediate to moderate, but the instructor, who normally teaches the advanced class, ran it at a moderate to advanced pace. I was the only person in the room at the intermediate level and spent more of the class struggling than unwinding. The food and beverage program is what you'd expect at a resort of this caliber. When I booked my massage, I specifically requested champagne for my birthday. It was noted. It was never offered, not before my treatment, not during, and not after. That kind of detail is exactly what separates a five-star experience from a four-star one, and it was simply forgotten. My massage therapist was outstanding. She was thorough, skilled, and clearly excellent at her craft. She identified tension I didn't even know I was carrying and worked through it with real intention. She was the highlight of the day without question. Rancho Valencia is a stunning property that has the bones of an exceptional experience. But the lack of pricing transparency, the inconsistent service details, and the atmosphere at check-in kept it from living up to its reputation. I'm not sure I'd return.

We came back with our now 9 year old along with 4 and 5-year-olds, and the experience felt so thoughtful from the start. The bellman was genuinely kind and welcoming (not in a forced way), which set the tone right away. The hotel also paid attention to a note I left ahead of time--our room was near the pool, and the kids were surprised with tents, s'mores kits, plus a welcome fruit board and San Pellegrino. The room was well maintained and clean (and I'm picky about cleanliness), and the overall vibe of the property is charming with a Spanish-style feel--warm and inviting without feeling outdated. Service was great across the board. Even when we had a small issue, it was handled quickly and professionally. The family pool was perfect for the kids, and we loved that there were quieter pool options for adults too. Housekeeping was also very attentive and consistent. Overall, such a relaxing, family-friendly stay. We'll definitely be back again.

I guess I'm one of the few who had a great experience?…read more I have to say my kids and I enjoyed staying here this past weekend. At check in, I was told I would be on the 3rd level but I asked if there was anyway to be on ground level (I guess one con is there are no elevators). They gave into my request which was awesome. With 3 kids and tons of stuff, that was a plus (I was traveling with out my other half). Upon arrivals to the room, it was spotless. We got a one bedroom Villa with a living room and kitchen. Perfect for just the 4 of us. Our view was of the golf course. The only con was the parking. There wasn't enough parking infront of the building , so we had to park infront of the pool. Not a bad walk but definitely a negative when you have tons of stuff and tired kids. We did have neighbors next to us and above us but we never heard them. The golfers played loud music but you only heard it if you were out on the balcony. We had breakfast at their restaurant and had a great experience. Service was on pointe. Food was delicious. Only con? Not enough options for breakfast . After checkout on Sunday, we had some time before we headed to our dance comp, so we went to a kids club house type thing . My kids made candy sushi, played board games, played foosball and played pool. They had a great experience there. Overall despite some minor cons, we loved it and would definitely come back!

We had an unexpected family emergency when the wedding we were supposed to attend was suddenly called off right before our trip. We contacted Hyatt days before check-in to explain the situation and ask if there was any possibility of an exception, and we were told to contact Hotels.com since the reservation was booked through them. After contacting Hotels.com, we were later instructed by the hotel to send an email directly to Hyatt regarding the emergency circumstances. In the written response we received from Spencer Boyea, Assistant Director of Front Office, Hyatt stated that because the reservation was prepaid through Hotels.com, "any cancellation or refund waivers must be reviewed and approved directly through their platform" and that Hyatt was unable to authorize the refund on their end. However, when Hotels.com later contacted the property directly, Hyatt apparently told them they would not approve any exception due to hotel policy. From there, we spent days being bounced back and forth between Hyatt and Hotels.com, with each side pointing fingers at the other while nobody would give us a clear consistent answer. What was most frustrating was that after the escalation email I sent directly to Hyatt explaining the conflicting communication and asking for any goodwill consideration, I never received any response at all from Spencer or anyone else at the property. I completely understand that nonrefundable policies exist. The issue was not simply the policy, it was the inconsistent communication, lack of ownership, and how difficult it was to get a straightforward answer during an already stressful family situation. Just sharing this experience so others understand what to expect when booking through a third party and attempting to resolve an emergency situation with this property.
