Although the grounds are beautiful, the administration the Welk/Hyatt has been consistently…read moreirresponsible and unreliable over the last 11 years that I have been an owner. Among only a few of their disappointments are- extremely long waits on hold; no call backs; there was a problem with a credit card and they end up sending me to a collections , saying that they had tried to call me an email me and call me but there was no record! So the lied! I had to spend much extra time getting that off my record but I still had to pay a couple of hundred dollars just for the fees and Welk/Hyatt took no responsibility. They have sent my points on to Interval without my permission and then told me they were doing a courtesy by giving me back my points! Then when I said, I want to keep all of my points with you for this time, they ended up suspending 180 /240 points- after paying two thousand dollars for HOA fees. They could have made an exception... Joyce simply did not care....terrible customer service. She told me I could exit and try to sell the property ( and that is very difficult , because people have a wizened up to timeshares scams? ) Joyce from resolutions was very cold and rude.... I look at that as theft. They might seem nice , but they don't take care of their clients and they make a lot of mistakes and they don't remedy them. And who knows why they have that kind of attitude? Maybe they are not paid well or treated well , and that's why they treat their clients as such. I've also stayed in rooms that had no hot water. And the showers weren't working! But most of the time , the rooms are beautiful. If you want to stay at the Welk or other resorts, the best way to do it is booking directly with the resort. They will tell you that the time sure is the best way.But it's not. Save yourself a lot of heartache and don't do timeshares; it's definitely a waste of much of your energy trying to book w them and deal with all the mishaps. And unkindnesses.

Or perhaps fell apart is more accurate. So many things went wrong. The sink handles barely turn. The toilet broke twice. The phones didn't work. Maintenance is slow to respond. If you need extra dish washer pods, the resort charges you??? There weren't enough bowls to serve soup to our family. There wasn't enough soap to wash the dishes all week and surprise, they charge if you need more. In the recreational center the only chess board was missing 6 pieces. How hard is it to buy another chess board when your rec center only has one? They charge for shuffle board if you want to play. My wife says this place was great in her childhood and I believe her. But it's really lost it's way. Pretty terrible experience all around, especially considering the hefty price.

This review is based on our Spa experience only!…read more I loved every minute being here! The staff were great, everything was so clean and organized in the women's locker room. We came just for the day and it was worth every penny! I love how they allow you to leave and come back that's always nice. There's plenty of parking and i believe you can ask to be taken to your car via golf cart lol I really enjoyed my time here to celebrate my birthday! My masseuse Maria was 10/10!!!! I highly highly recommend her! Omg i have never had a massage that good! She worked on the areas i told her i had tension and the oil they used was so delicious! It had juniper and it was just magical. We'll definitely return!

The grounds are nice and extremely large!…read moreUnfortunately, for me, that's where it ends... our room was situated at the far end of the resort, on the golf course. Golf course maintenance crews are up and at it, around 6:30 in the morning(!!). Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep and, when asked to change rooms, they were booked and had nothing available for us. As for dining... "room service" is a joke where you order online, get charged $40 for them to bring it to your room and, it's cold by the time it gets there. We had Easter brunch at Vue which was just ok. I got the eggs Benedict which, when cut open, revealed clear runoff of barely cooked egg - instantly made my hunger disappear. My husband's breakfast, the chorizo scramble, and son's breakfast, pancakes, were totally fine and edible. For the amount of money it is to stay here, I think it's 1000% overrated and we'll skip it next time we're in SD, for sure. There's really no need to come here.

This is for the Spa…read more.. The spa opens at 7 AM and there I was. I came in through the gates of the gated community and parked in the self parking lot at the spa. Waited in front for five minutes and the doors opened! I felt like putting my face against the window while I waited and say, "open, open, open". I was greeted by a lovely young woman who checked me in and walked me around the grounds to show me around. As I came so early, I had the place to myself for the first two hours. I used the gym, took a swim, went in a couple of Jacuzzis until my girlfriends arrived at 9:30 AM. I'm more of an introvert, so it was perfect. Altogether, we took a yoga class at the beautiful yoga pavilion. We sat by the pool and had a lovely lunch. The food was excellent, including the complementary treats and banana bread. The only negative about the pool was that we were told if we left for more than 20 minutes our belongings would be removed. We couldn't hold our chairs for the day. That was news to us. It was a warm 90° day on a Friday in March and the community and hotel is allowed to use the spa grounds and they all showed up. Every lounge chair was full. Note to self: come Monday through Thursday. The massage: I'm going to say it's one of the best massages I've ever had in my life (and I've been to other five star spas). Pure bliss. Jackie was my masseuse. She listened to me when I asked for stronger pressure and then from there, I went into another world of goodness. She had such love in her eyes when it was all done. This is the most expensive massage I've ever had in my life. Around $400 for a 60 minute massage (with tax and tip) not including lunch. But treating ourselves once in a while is worth it. We felt like we were princesses. Yes, we'll be back. Maybe a while from now to save up our pennies, but we will be back.

Beautiful Grounds, But Not the Five-Star Experience I Expected…read moreI visited Rancho Valencia on my birthday expecting a true five-star experience, and while there were genuinely lovely moments, the overall visit fell short of what a resort at this level should deliver. A few things worth knowing before you book: they do not offer a day pass. Access to the resort is granted by booking a service through their spa, which is fine in principle. What's not fine is their pricing transparency. The rates listed on their website are not what you'll actually pay. Pricing changes based on demand, time of day, and availability. I received two different booking confirmations for the same treatment at two different prices, neither of which matched what was on their site. When I asked at check-in, they explained their dynamic pricing model casually, as if it were common knowledge. It isn't, and it should be disclosed at the time of scheduling. No one mentioned it when I called to book. The check-in staff was cordial, but the energy made it clear they were sizing me up. It was subtle and perhaps unintentional, but noticeable enough to color the start of my day. The property itself is genuinely beautiful. Lush grounds, a cold plunge, multiple pools, and access to yoga and fitness classes throughout the day. The yoga class I attended was listed as intermediate to moderate, but the instructor, who normally teaches the advanced class, ran it at a moderate to advanced pace. I was the only person in the room at the intermediate level and spent more of the class struggling than unwinding. The food and beverage program is what you'd expect at a resort of this caliber. When I booked my massage, I specifically requested champagne for my birthday. It was noted. It was never offered, not before my treatment, not during, and not after. That kind of detail is exactly what separates a five-star experience from a four-star one, and it was simply forgotten. My massage therapist was outstanding. She was thorough, skilled, and clearly excellent at her craft. She identified tension I didn't even know I was carrying and worked through it with real intention. She was the highlight of the day without question. Rancho Valencia is a stunning property that has the bones of an exceptional experience. But the lack of pricing transparency, the inconsistent service details, and the atmosphere at check-in kept it from living up to its reputation. I'm not sure I'd return.

My co-worker and I ordered two different flatbreads and split a salad because apparently we are now "ladies who lunch." Everything was delicious! The golf atmosphere was actually really fun too. I don't even play golf, but after watching everyone cruise around looking relaxed and sporty, I briefly considered becoming the kind of person who says things like, "I'll catch you after my tee time." Would have saved hundreds of $$$!! The bar food was much better by the way. Other than that golf course was fun and in great shape. All the other services was GREAT. Rooms were OK. We would come back, but we would definitely stay away from the restaurant.

I guess I'm one of the few who had a great experience?…read more I have to say my kids and I enjoyed staying here this past weekend. At check in, I was told I would be on the 3rd level but I asked if there was anyway to be on ground level (I guess one con is there are no elevators). They gave into my request which was awesome. With 3 kids and tons of stuff, that was a plus (I was traveling with out my other half). Upon arrivals to the room, it was spotless. We got a one bedroom Villa with a living room and kitchen. Perfect for just the 4 of us. Our view was of the golf course. The only con was the parking. There wasn't enough parking infront of the building , so we had to park infront of the pool. Not a bad walk but definitely a negative when you have tons of stuff and tired kids. We did have neighbors next to us and above us but we never heard them. The golfers played loud music but you only heard it if you were out on the balcony. We had breakfast at their restaurant and had a great experience. Service was on pointe. Food was delicious. Only con? Not enough options for breakfast . After checkout on Sunday, we had some time before we headed to our dance comp, so we went to a kids club house type thing . My kids made candy sushi, played board games, played foosball and played pool. They had a great experience there. Overall despite some minor cons, we loved it and would definitely come back!

Beware if you booked through a third party. Really disappointed with how Hyatt Vacation Club at The…read moreWelk handled our situation. We had an unexpected family emergency when the wedding we were supposed to attend was suddenly called off right before our trip. We contacted Hyatt days before check-in to explain the situation and ask if there was any possibility of an exception, and we were told to contact Hotels.com since the reservation was booked through them. After contacting Hotels.com, we were later instructed by the hotel to send an email directly to Hyatt regarding the emergency circumstances. In the written response we received from Spencer Boyea, Assistant Director of Front Office, Hyatt stated that because the reservation was prepaid through Hotels.com, "any cancellation or refund waivers must be reviewed and approved directly through their platform" and that Hyatt was unable to authorize the refund on their end. However, when Hotels.com later contacted the property directly, Hyatt apparently told them they would not approve any exception due to hotel policy. From there, we spent days being bounced back and forth between Hyatt and Hotels.com, with each side pointing fingers at the other while nobody would give us a clear consistent answer. What was most frustrating was that after the escalation email I sent directly to Hyatt explaining the conflicting communication and asking for any goodwill consideration, I never received any response at all from Spencer or anyone else at the property. I completely understand that nonrefundable policies exist. The issue was not simply the policy, it was the inconsistent communication, lack of ownership, and how difficult it was to get a straightforward answer during an already stressful family situation. Just sharing this experience so others understand what to expect when booking through a third party and attempting to resolve an emergency situation with this property.
