my wife and i stayed at the Oak Hill Inn in Julian this weekend. it was a great place. check in was easy and we were greeted and shown the room. the shower was hot and the bed was super comfy. we will stay here again if we are in Julian, and so should you.

Our stay here was amazing! The host Laura and Mike were so friendly and helpful. This is a great place to stay away from the hustle of downtown Julian, but is within walking distance.

    Weekend getaway spot!

My fiance and I just stayed at the Oak Hill Inn this weekend and we're so happy that we chose it for our lodging. We were seeking a quiet and relaxing place for a weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of San Diego, and the Oak Hill Inn turned out to be a perfect fit. What we loved: Our poolside room was the perfect size for us and gave us tons of privacy to enjoy the pool and patio area. The weather was just warm enough for us to utilize the pool so after some quick maintenance with the pool skimmer, we jumped in and enjoyed. The room is cutely decorated with a "stove heater" that kept us warm and cozy. We found the bed to be comfortable, but we are SO glad we brought 2 of our pillows from home (see more below). The coffee maker, mini fridge and kitchen tools were perfect for our needs. Parking was convenient, and we loved being able to walk into town in under 10 minutes. Suggestions for improvement: When I made the reservation over the phone with Bill, I asked him to please email me some kind of confirmation or receipt for the payment. He said that's something he doesn't do, it's "not really his style." I personally found that a little disconcerting and unusual because this is clearly a business that has the ability to send a simple e-mail confirmation (they have multiple listings on AirBnB and their own website). I tried to call the Inn at 5:30 pm when we were leaving town to get a final confirmation about arrival instructions, parking, etc. but nobody answered the phone. That being said, without a firm confirmation or check-in instructions, I wasn't 100% confident about our stay until we arrived on Friday evening and found a note telling us how to find the room! I also highly recommend they upgrade the pillows (they are basically mush), or guests should plan to bring their own to supplement. We enjoyed the pool but the hot tub clearly wasn't "open" - we would have liked to check it out too. We didn't see the proprietors at any point during the weekend so I couldn't share this feedback with them directly. Overall we had an awesome time here and I recommend it to other couples who are seeking a very relaxed, rustic getaway spot.

Extremely Dirty pool area. NOT swimmable.

Although the woman was very nice on arrival, these people DO NOT ANSWER THEIR PHONES. So don't expect any help in that aspect if you need to call ahead for any reason. The small town is very cute and "country like." Great for a very private quiet getaway without much expectation. Walking distance to town was cute and it was nice being able to see all their homemade shops. I was hoping to swim but the pool was disgusting and had insects swimming in it, yes IN it. No thanks. Next time would probably stay at another place nearby.

Bill and Magda were excellent hosts! Spent the afternoon by the pool and the evening eating dessert in the room! The whole experience was amazing. We've already tried to book for our next get away!!! Thank you!

I feel I should refrain from giving too much detail, because I'm sure the hosts are incredible people. However, I believe we booked this Airbnb at a bad time. We were so eager to arrive and wanted to love this Airbnb, but were very disappointed. Check-in was a breeze, and we were initially so excited. The inside of the room was quaint and cute, and definitely had a mountain feel. We were quickly bummed to find our coffee maker would not work, despite how much water we put into it. The raving reviews about goodies in the fridge and the comfort of the environment were something we were looking forward to, but never found. The ambiance was there, but a lot of stuff was not as expected. Our bed (in room #2) was truly the most uncomfortable spring mattress we have ever slept on, and we are two incredibly low-maintenance individuals who aren't normally picky at ALL. I personally had to lodge a pillow underneath my hips in order to sleep for 2 straight hours through the night. There were two pathways you could take to get to these separate rooms, and the more convenient one was obstructed by tons of weeds, and a long and lengthy Pyracantha branch (if you know this shrub, you know it has inch-long thorns). Most importantly, we booked this specific Airbnb for the pool. That was our main priority as I surprised my fiancé with this birthday weekend trip, and he absolutely loves swimming. We were incredibly disappointed to see how filthy the pool was. There was a layer of debris and insects covering the top of the pool, plus the grout was very mucky. We were so bummed to not use the pool, and 4 other parties stayed there during the duration of our stay, and none of them swam, either! Overall, I want to give the hosts the benefit of the doubt, because obviously others have had raving things to say about the hosts and their stay, but this place was not as expected. We are really hoping we came at an unfortunate time and that others continue to enjoy it, but we truly did not. The highlight of the stay was the AC that kept the room comfortable, no matter the outside elements. Also, we oddly could not connect to WiFi in the common area, but did somehow reach it from our room in the corner, so I suppose this would be a positive note. We appreciated a safe place to stay for two nights, but would not recommend this place to others, simply based off our stay as a whole.

Even though I only stayed inside one unit, the property clearly offers several themed rentals, each with its own character and charm. The setting itself is the real highlight -- peaceful, open, and wonderfully quiet. It's the kind of place you go when you need your brain to slow down. I often stopped by just to sit in the sun, walk the grounds, and enjoy the unexpected bonus... real wild turkeys roaming around. Not decorative -- actual turkeys -- which somehow adds perfectly to the rustic atmosphere. There's also an onsite store (with limited hours, so plan ahead) offering food and drinks. Downstairs is a small thrift shop in what used to be an old saloon -- easily one of the most unique parts of the property and fun to browse. The covered wagon accommodations look especially fun and are on my list for a future stay when I want a quiet escape close to home. Banner Ranch isn't flashy -- it's calm, simple, and restorative. If you're looking for peace, sunshine, and a place to decompress, this is a solid choice. If I could take off half a star I would only because of the limited store hours...however, lets be real....I wasn't there to shop.

We've stayed in many rentals over the years, and Two Sisters Cottage is one of the nicest. The owners are lovely people. The house has charming decorations. The gas fire place heats up the front of the house just fine. We prefer the bedrooms to be cooler for sleeping. The portable heaters work well if you need to warm up the bathroom or bedroom. The furniture and beds are comfy. We don't use the dishwasher; we hand wash our dishes. They have a TV, DVD, and plenty of games to play. They have a lovely front yard with furniture to sit under the tree and people watch. They have double-paned windows. You're right in town with easy access to shopping and eating. The people who run the shops are very nice and we always stop to visit with them. Many of the restaurants and cafes are "average" but we have found a few standouts: Romano's Italian, Soups and Such, Jeremy's on the Hill, Wynola Pizza Express, Apple Alley, and Grannies. Miner's Diner has the BEST malts and shakes ever!!! We also love the Tea House. We love Julian and Two Sisters Cottage. This is not a resort, this is a homey, small town hangout.

As an added bonus, Teri and her husband Rich were the most gracious and accommodating hosts anyone could ask for. They went over and above to make sure we were comfortable and all our needs were met. The cottage itself is spacious, yet cozy as can be. Neat as a pin and clean as a whistle...! The gas fireplace in the front room is positively delightful. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. I can't imagine why anyone would give TSC a negative review. The space heaters for the bathroom/bedrooms are quite adequate (it was quite cold outside during our stay), and there are down comforters in the closets. The neighborhood is walk/run friendly. Our dog loved it too. The price is more than reasonable for the area, and the pet fee was the least expensive we saw. I would HIGHLY recommend Two Sisters' to anyone that asks. As far as the town itself goes, we went into a number of the shops and never felt like we were being watched over unnecessarily. The merchants we interacted with were accommodating and friendly.
