We loved our stay at SD Mountain Lodge! My boyfriend and I booked a stay at the Zen Den (#9) cabin with our German shepherd. Admittedly, it was tight quarters for the 3 of us but it was perfect for the two days that we stayed. The cabin was very clean and was stocked all the cooking supplies/utensils we needed! Upon check out, we had a conversation with Ray who was part of the team that was expanding and remodeling the property. He was very friendly and made us excited to return. We can't wait to come back and see all the new development to the property!

We were looking for peace and quiet. That's exactly what we got. The staff were friendly and the cabin was clean and comfortable. This was our second stay here and look forward to the next.

In our search to find a good place to stay for a visit to Julian, we came across many options that were just not appealing. We took a chance and booked a cabin at SD Mountain Lodge and we were surprisingly ecstatic the moment we walked into our cabin (Eagle's Perch). This place is a gem! It's 15-20 mins drive from the popular spots in Julian, but it was worth it. We enjoyed the quiet hideaway setting that Mountain Lodge provided with the modern amenities and comforts that us city folk look for, haha. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and I'm looking forward to staying here again.

WOW! Far Exceeded our expectations! Newly remodeled. Keurig, toaster, micro plus all the implements you need in the kitchen. Great mini split a/c-heater and wood burning fireplace. Wanted to move in!

As noted in other reviews the rooms are small- my husband and I are NOT small, we managed! The tall bed was comfortable and there was a helpful step placed in the closet so I did not have to resort to a high jump to get in. The bed was comfy. Breakfast was ok- I have a food allergy and staff had to scramble to accommodate it. I didn't think of it when we made the reservations, so that is on me. STAFF WAS AMAZING! Warm, friendly and filled with recommendations on where to eat ( dinner- and of course APPLE PIE!) We all agreed (we were traveling with others) that we would like to come and stay again. When you take into account the afternoon tea and a full breakfast, it's downright budget friendly!

That would probably pay for parking in San Diego hotels. This is a historic building and an interesting attraction in its own right. Breakfast is included and it was terrific. Food is expensive in Julian. A similar breakfast at a local restaurant would be $20. The staff are great. I met several day managers and the night security guy. They are all terrific people. It is really like staying in someone's home rather than a hotel. These is no TV. I think that belongs with the pros. The location is great. Right in the middle of town. Cons: Our room was tiny. Really tiny. Use the drawers and closets for your stuff so you don't trip over it. A side effect of the smallness of the room is that the heater/ac struggles to control the temperature . The design of any heater/ac unit presumes a room volume. The room is so tiny, the heater's built in control parameters are way off. Parking, parking is "street parking" and on a weekend, it's every man for himself. You may have to drag your bags a block or two. ---------------------- So would we stay there again? Absolutely. I would probably spend a bit more and get one of the small number of larger rooms, if available. If you want to relax and read, I cannot think of a better place. One thing I should mention, if you attempt to make reservations on line, there are half a dozen fake web sites imitating the hotel. They are put up by a dodgy travel company. They are really good imitations. I even an experienced computer user could be fooled. It is best just to call them.

While the room is still beautiful, we noticed several changes that made this stay feel less special than before. In previous visits, breakfast was served in the main house with beautiful views, which was always something we looked forward to. This time, breakfast consisted of two muffins and a thermos delivered to the room, which felt like a significant downgrade from the experience we had come to expect. There were also small boutique touches that seem to be missing now. In the past, there were little cookies by the coffee maker and other thoughtful treats that added to the charm of the stay. While these may seem like small details, they are part of what justified the price point and made the experience feel unique and memorable. Overall, the property is still lovely, but many of the personalized touches and amenities that once made it feel like a true boutique experience no longer seem to be there, which was disappointing

This is an old building with not a lot of customers so I feel like it is unreasonable to rail on the owners for not having good access for handicapped since it is an old elevated structure likely because it was built when the lake had a LOT more water (they have had to drastically lower the water level since then for flood danger) Yes it would suck if one were wheelchairbound but to be fair it is super easy to check out restraints ahead of time online before driving there....My guess IF the latest owner were forced to bring the building up to latest codes? It would just be financially impossible to justify expense that would never be recouped

For years I've been wanting to try this place. After an outing in the Desert with my sister-in-law, we decided to try this restaurant it would be both our first time. My sister-in-law and I walked into the restaurant and found the place to be very busy as you would expect at dinner time. The crowd was mostly elderly, could be regulars. For appetizers, we ordered the potato skins. For our meals, I ordered the special of the day, Seabass with pilaf, and vegetables. My sister-in-law ordered the soft crab cake. And before our appetizer and meals arrived we were served a basket of rolls which looked like regular rolls, but when you bit into them, they were warm and very tasty. Both of our meals were very good. Sadly we had no room for dessert. Where our table was situated, we could see pretty much the entire restaurant. The only thing that was not visible was the sitting bar but everywhere you sat, you would be looking out a window. It is all around the windows. One of the window area they had hummingbird feeders hanging, and you could see the hummingbirds haven't their dinner as well. Service was very friendly. I would love to come back and try some other items on their menu..

Sitting at the bar feels oddly enclosed and lifeless. Even with open windows, the atmosphere comes across as closed off and quiet in an uncomfortable way, more empty banquet hall than inviting restaurant. Each time, the place felt dead. Service at the bar was also lacking. The bartender was frequently away talking with servers, leaving us waiting a long time for drinks despite how slow the restaurant was. The food was equally underwhelming. The sides that are often praised, including the twice-baked potato, tasted like frozen, reheated items rather than something freshly made. The meat itself was mediocre and forgettable, with nothing that stood out. We really wanted to like this place and gave it multiple chances, but after three visits, we're genuinely confused by the hype.

Doors did not lock and not all furniture was unpacked so we had to put it together ourselves. While the view and the birds were spectacular, our hosts were not. We would leave work and things would be moved around when we came back, which was invasive and perplexing since there was no maid service in the four weeks we stayed. On several occasions after working the grave shift in the early morning there would be knocks on our doors and occasionally fire alarms would be set off. One day after days of our doors never locking (both the hallway and sliding glass doors) they decided to do maintenance to finally have the doors properly lock, and lock them when they were done. Well because none of the doors to our rooms locked many of us stopped carrying the keys, and upon arriving to locked doors it was hard to get in contact to be let into our rooms. As much as we appreciated being lodged in this clean facility, we could have done away with the hostility and confiscation of personal property from our rooms.
