Julian Lodge is the perfect location to stay in since it's on one end of the town and totally walking distance to the cool, quaint shops and restaurants around. The front desk staff were so friendly and gave great recommendations on where to eat and do some stargazing. The parking was free and literally right out of our room. The rooms were clean, air conditioning worked great, beds were so comfortable and the TV stations were great! They provided coffee and tea in both the lobby and in your room and the refrigerator was perfectly cold. The bathrooms were simple yet very accommodating with enough towels, toiletries and cleanliness. I would definitely come back and stay here again for sure! read more

We arrived past the check-in time and they accommodated to our situation. The instructions were clear and the room was decent. I do wish there was a fan in the restroom at least, but this is okay! We enjoyed our stay here right in the heart of the beautiful town of Julian. You can wander into the front office and fix yourself a piping hot cup of coffee when the doors open at 8am. The Julian Lodge is walking distance to all of the shops and food establishments in town. One of my favorite perks of the Julian Lodge is that they are pet friendly. I travel everywhere with my two little poodle mixes. The Julian Lodge definitely does not disappoint. I highly recommend this establishment. read more

Can't wait to come back to Julian Lodge. The photos don't do it justice; it is so cute, comfortable; and somehow both cozy and spacious in person. We lucked out and got their giant room for our family and WOW it was a thrill. We were tempted to just move in and spend all our time in the hotel; it was so spacious and comfy we hardly wanted to leave. BUT, it's in the heart of downtown Julian so once you walk out the door you're just steps from Main Street (just one small street away, which, as a late sleeper, was the perfect distance to make morning feel like it was all mine). My husband and I were in Julian for a little getaway and found the lodge online. We needed a place near the heart of the town that was dog friendly. Found the perfect spot! Management was great it was just perfect and I can't find a thing wrong so I tell you to stay at the Julian Lodge if you're looking for a moderately priced clean Charming cute little place to stay. There are plenty of airbnbs around but there usually much more expensive and Julian Lodge is right in the center of town. I didn't know exactly what to expect but I was so pleasantly surprised. This place is just ok but with not many places to stay in Julian, this might be as good as it gets. My boyfriend and I arrived in Julian on a Saturday afternoon and at around 2:30pm we went to the Lodge to see if we could check in a little early. The nice man at the front desk (who goes by Pops) told us that the room wasn't ready yet and that the cleaning crew was running behind. Pops stated that he would call us when the room was ready. Mind you, check in is at 3pm. At around 3:30pm we went back in and a different girl was working the front desk. The room still wasn't ready so we decided to drive around some more and at about 4:30pm we received a call that the room was finally ready. We booked a deluxe queen room and had room 214 assigned to us. Upon entering the room we noticed that the room wasn't all that clean, which was disappointing to see since we had to wait 90 min. past checkin for it. There was a considerable amount of dust and a few long Cobb webs from the light over the fridge/microwave to the ceiling. I went over the entire room with disinfectant wipes to properly clean it. There are also not a lot of outlets in the room to charge devices and the outlet on my side of the bed was behind the bed so I had to pull the mattress back in order to plug my charger in. Upon pulling the mattress back I noticed a ton of dust behind the bed. The outlets that are accessible were very loose and my chargers kept falling out. We also noticed that our toilet seat was broken and needed to be screwed back down. We notified the staff and we were told the manager would come up to fix it but no one ever came. The toilet was also very small. There's also no phone in the room so calling down to the office wasn't possible unless you used your cell phone to dial the main number. After the office closes, an answering service takes over so I'm not sure what would happen if you need anything after hours. Lastly, this lodge is classified as a bed and breakfast but there is no breakfast in the morning. Luckily Julian has a bunch of awesome breakfast places to partake in. I liked the historic look of this hotel but I just wish things were a little cleaner and better maintained. In case anyone is wondering, there is an ice machine on site, which is nice! read more

I'm giving this place a 1-star review solely because their website image gallery still includes eleven images of a sign that clearly says "Bed and Breakfast", plus 4 images of a "breakfast room". Since May of 2020 they have not served breakfast. I believe this to be false advertising. I will happily remove this review or change the rating once the website is updated with accurate images. Stayed for a night and the room was clean! The heater and cable made our stay so comfortable. The owner was nice and they had a beautiful cat in the office who was nice as well. There were a couple of spiders in the room but that's normal in a place so wooded. They did run out of muffins in the morning for the guests but it's okay. All in all, would stay again! Our room was very clean, well maintained including the bathroom which had a nice shower as well. Wow! For such a lovely mountain-town, they certainly did not put the effort in to the "Lodge" experience at Julian Lodge. We chose this lodge because of its location in Julian, which was nice, and because pets are allowed (albeit for an additional $30 a night). The desk service was friendly enough, so we give 2 stars for that, but here is where the positives end with Julian Lodge. To begin, we reserved two rooms for the weekend; a queen for our adult "kids" and a king for us. The "king" was double the price of the queen, but for comfort, we prefer a king so were willing to pay $192 a night for the extra "luxury". However, to our surprise, the "King" at Julian Lodge is actually a queen size bed, and the "queen" that our kids got is a in reality, full. There is no mistaking this, a standard king is 76 x 80, a queen is 60 x 80, and a full is 54 x 74- measurements don't lie. We paid for a king and a queen room, but got a queen and a full. When we broached this discrepancy with front desk, they indicated that many folks have said the same, but that this is a "hotel management thing" and they can't do anything about it. THEY KNOW THAT THEY ARE MISLEADING THEIR CLIENTELE, but what does one do when they arrive to their reservation, with dog and family in tow, and no place else to go? You either pay the misquoted price or go home. I did ask to speak to the manager about the issue, and to his credit, he responded, giving me a 10% discount on the two rooms, which is something, but remember, I paid TWICE as much for the king than what I actually got, not to mention the difference on what SHOULD have been a queen. If this "little switch and bait" is OK with you, and you still want to choose this place, then be aware of the lackluster quality of the rooms. There are few electrical outlets in the rooms, and some of those do not work, so good luck with charging your devices. The in-room microwave did not work, they did not refresh the in-room coffee and creamers each day, rooms are dingy and dated (kinda run-down tbh), and the room smelled a bit musty. This place was such a disappointment; definitely not worth $192 a night for a "false king" and "false queen". read more

Loved this place. Was at the right location and right next to "Regulars wanted" cofee shop, which also was amazing. The room was spotless clean and comfortable. The decor was minimum but thoughtful and sweet. Mr. Cox was very welcoming and nice. Loved staying at the lodge and will definitely recommend it. The pies at Julian are to die for. Had a very pleasant overnight stay at the Julian Lodge. What convinced us to stay at this location was the Yelp reviews. The staff were super super friendly. The room was perfect and cozy for a little getaway. Even though it is listed as a Bed and Breakfast, there is no breakfast due to Covid-19 restrictions. They do offer AAA discounts. Tried booking through AAA travel but they do not book Bed and Breakfast facilities. The travel agent went above and beyond and called Julian Lodge to let them know that I would be calling them to book a room. This was a great experience. Highly recommend for romantic and group getaways in Julian! They are the only Dog Friendly Hotel in downtown Julian. We've stayed here twice for staycation getaways. The overall atmosphere and service is warm, friendly and inviting. The hotel is quaint and the decor is thoughtful and boutique/antique. Rooms vary in shape and size, so definitely ask for the room types that are available and upon check-in. The family that owns and operates the hotel is lovely and cares about your satisfaction. The experience here really wasn't great. We were going to book the majority of the lodge for this weekend for our wedding back in November-ish of 2021. One of our guests reserved a room right away. We were informed by other guests our rooms weren't reserved. Upon calling, they "lost" our reservation, despite having the confirmation information and emails. They also booked about 25% of the rooms we had needed for out of town guests. There were several additional issues trying to reserve rooms, including charging the card that was holding the rooms to the tune of the cost of ~12 rooms all at once. They then tried to charge people way over the quoted cost for the rooms. When I stayed here, the experience was lackluster at best. I walked in and a lady was at the front desk on the phone. She didn't acknowledge our presence at all. I looked around and they had several boxes of dirty, used shoes and clothing in the corner of the dining area. There wasn't any indication what they were for, but it was interesting to say the least. We tried to check in and she told us all our rooms were cancelled. I eventually got a room. The room was small. The bed felt like a few sacks of potatoes and a blanket. It wasn't comfortable. The pillow, even when folded in half, seemed to have the thickness of a piece of cardboard and about the same comfort level. The furniture in the room was outdated. The tv/cable service didn't work during our stay. Some guests got a small credit back and some didn't. I went to another guests room and they had a much more comfortable bed, a bigger TV (still didn't work), and it seemed like a small step up from what I had. This lodge really seems like a family run place and I want to like it, but I could not in good conscience recommend staying here to anyone. read more

2 stars for location. Room is old, dingy and outdated. Bed was hard with a super thin blanket only. Mr back throbs days later. But the worst part, Jeff at the front desk. I booked long in advance for a wedding and asked for an early check in as I had to be there at the time check in was. He refused and said call back the day before. He does this, just hangs up when he decides he's done. You'll be mid sentence. I called the day before and he refused and hung up on me. Just put me on a list for the first available room. How hard is this when someone books months in advance! I had to get ready in a gas station bathroom instead of this room i over payed for. So ridiculous. read more

I've done a handful of day trips to Julian but for my birthday, I wanted a little overnight trip. The lodge was nice and cozy and everyone was super sweet. I did have to stop downstairs for a new remote as the one in our room wasn't working but the staff was pretty nice about it. The only downside was there was no water in the room during our stay and when we tried to use the ice machine, it didn't seem to be working or at least I couldn't personally figure it out. Beautiful and great location. Close to everything!! Make sure you stop at mom's for pie OMG. Check in for this lodge is at 3pm. We got the double room and it is the cleanest room ever. The service is great everyone was smiling and welcoming when we checked in and made sure we knew were are room was. The room is a great size and very homey. Sheets smells clean and not just bleach. This place had the quaint feel one would expect when visiting a place like Julian. From the outside, it's kitschy and cute. Not sure about the clerk in a Madonna T-shirt, basketball shorts and socks with no shoes, but... it's Julian... the only place where you can find real podunk folk in SoCal. I would've given four stars to this place, but then I inspected my bed before getting in at the end of the night and was appalled by the amount of hair on the sheets. Called the front, left a voicemail, left keys in the room and drove 2.5 hours home after a wedding. It was... no bueno. Called twice today to speak with management. No manager is ever there it seems. Asked me to email, so I sent them the photos. ----------- As I was typing this, they called. Refunded me and apologized. So a bump in a star. But only two! read more

This lodge is just amazing. Perfect location and the managers are top notch. We had a minor incident happen to us it was our mistake and Amanda helped us! She was a true superhero. This place is more like a 5 star hotel with how they care about their customers and how they handle any issues. I've been working in the entertainment industry for over 20 years and have been around the world...I rarely make reviews on here but felt compelled to because of how wonderful they all were. We cannot thank them enough. I had my fair share of bad experiences but they made 2020 that much brighter. Whenever we come to Julian we will stay here every time. Support this business! read more

We just stayed two nights at the Julian Lodge. Our room was clean, safe, and comfortable. All the staff we encountered were friendly (check-in, check-out, in passing on the property), helpful (making suggestions for things to do and places to eat), and wanted to make sure we had an enjoyable stay (ensuring we had ample towels and toiletries). The property itself was quiet and in the perfect location for us. It is a block from Main Street so we didn't have the heavy, tourist vehicle traffic, but were still walking distance to everything on Main. Behind the Lodge is the Julian Jail as well as a parking lot that offered beautiful sunset views and a great place for star-gazing (we saw meteors and the Milky Way). When we weren't playing tourist around town, we watched the numerous hummingbirds at the feeder right in front of our room's window and door. We also had fun petting and watching one of the resident Maine Coon cats while he was out and about. Their breakfast is currently canceled but we were happy to stop by the nearby coffee shop, Regulars Wanted, for fresh coffee and delicious pastries. We would be happy to stay here again! read more

Before I start let me tell you we have traveled all over USA. So belive me when I tell you this hotel is very nice. It has Julian charm, within walking distance to shops and pie... Floor was clean and vacumned. Bathroom was very clean. Toilet seat was very clean. The room is small but it's part of the charm. Painted and smells good not musty. Coffee maker in room, no microwave in basic room but that's ok. Lady at the desk was very kind. She responded right away. It was like she was expecting us. Very helpful. Breakfast was good nice spread and variety. Avaliable at 7:30...which is nice because everything closes at 5in Julian and doesn't open until 9. Not noisy.. No one running or screaming nice. My only complaint which I have found in tons of hotels and might change someday. The bed was very uncomfortable, hard as a rock and warn out. The bed needs a total make over. New sheets, blankets and pillows. Not enough padding.. And there needs to be a better mattress pad to protect mattress. People come to a hotel to relax and sleep and the bed should be the best part of the room not the worst. Mattresses come to your door in a box now so hotels don't even have to go to a store. Hopefully this changes because I would love to come back.... read more

So, few options in Julian. Covid doesn't help. Very basic rooms. No pool, obviously we knew that before we booked. However, we booked 2 rooms for 3 nights. Not cheap. One room had great AC. The other not so much. Tried to fix it. Nope. Told staff. They blamed our kids. Oh well. Cold shower, opened fridge. Drank a bottle or Prosecco. Left fridge open for cooling. Hot as hell. Pillows suck. I've slept in worse, but not for the price. Let's hope the plane ride home provides better sleep. Won't do this again. Lesson learned. read more

The staff is rude (or at least the woman that was the manager on duty), She, (the manager on duty at the time) is incompetent. In addition to that, She let her dog crap in a small area across our room and hadn't cleaned up for several weeks - lots of dog crap could be seen from the room. Due to her level of incompetence, I can only assume that she believes this is sculpture garden worthy of Home & Garden Magazine. The pictures attached show what I describe as the wonderfully manicured dog-crap lawn that the she was gracious enough to provide free of charge.... The dog crap that I could view from the room was probably my biggest complaint. The manager has dog (nice dog btw) that her daughter would take for a walk and let the dog do it's daily dump in a small area across from our room. That would not be so bad if the manager took the time to clean up the mess. Instead there is about two or three weeks of dog crap piled up in that small area. One would think that even the incompetent manger would get tired of looking at two weeks worth of dog crap. Apparently not... see pictures. Another major complaint was the room cleaning. We checked in at 1:30pm on the 27th of August. No-one bothered to even clean the room until 4:00pm on the 29th of August. My wife had to hunt down towels on the 28th of August. And we had to dump trash on the morning of the 29th because the manager couldn't seemed to understand that daily room cleaning is part of the contracted duties required under the contract. As I said, my wife had to get towels and we had to dump trash because the cleaning staff took the day off. One would think that the manager would be apologetic since we were not getting the proper cleaning... no so. When I complained, she went off on some tirade and seems to think her ability to virtue poster is an asset in management skills. I would reply to her by saying there is a reason that she is an assistant manger in an "out of the way" flea bitten motel... not management material for real hotels. In addition, we booked 3 days at $327 on booking.com and the "manager" charged an additional $8.71/day. They decided to ignore the contracted rate and charge their own rate. Reeks of a scam... would not recommend to anyone. If I can keep at least one person from staying here I will be happy... enough said. read more
