Orchard Hill is truly a gem. It's a peaceful getaway. The lobby, bar, and restaurant is the perfect way to relax after a long day where you can sit by the fire in some very comfortable furniture. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating - they even had free cookies for us to take. We stayed in the Gladstone room and was extremely comfortable and had a private balcony. As a heads up, the jacuzzi tub is also the shower. You will have to hold the shower head while you bathe - but you get used to it. They also have a creek on the property which is perfect to grab some coffee and stumble around. They also have a ton of outdoor sitting next to fire pits. Would love to come back and stay some more nights here. This would be an amazing venue to get married at if you are looking. read more

I've stayed here twice now. It is a beautiful property, easy to get to, and a convenient walk to downtown. BUT, be aware of a couple of potential problems: 1) Both times there was no dining, both for breakfast and for dinner. The first time we stayed, the place had been bought out by a company having a retreat so all the resources were being poured into them. Okay, it was March, and we could see it might be a one-off. We were told that everything would be happening in the summer. 2) Well, it's June. We're up here again. And there is no dining for either dinner or breakfast because there is a private event going on. We were offered a chance to pick up breakfast (no choice, just one dish being offered) and we could take it back to our room to eat. No, thanks. I don't want to feel like Harry Potter and have to pretend I don't exist so that I don't disturb the more important guests. Look, running an inn is a tough business. I get it. You have to take on guests when you can and turning down a buy-out event would be insane. But maybe you could inform non-event guests when there is going to be a conflict so they know what to expect. Give them a chance to cancel if the inn isn't going to be able to offer the full experience. Don't make them feel like second-class citizens. The Jonagold room is one of the best. It's private with a porch that looks west for summer sunsets. So I recommend Orchard Hill but that comes with a caveat that you may not get everything the website promises. read more

We saw the fire pit and asked if they had s'mores which they did not, but later we were at the firepit and they were able to source it for us free of charge. There are also wild turkeys just hanging out in the morning. The location is great, being only a street away from the Main Street. Stayed at OH for one night. The lodge was pretty, the grounds were lovely and our cottage (Jonagold) was beautiful and quite spacious! I think at least one or two other rooms were occupied on this Sunday night. But why offer a late afternoon "happy hour" in the lodge (with a dinky charcuterie board) and not at least have a log burning in the fireplace on a very cold and rainy afternoon? So I asked the receptionist and she said because the boss told her not to bother to light it because no one was there. I said, well we're here. She shrugged. We had a lovely one night stay at Orchard Hill. We stayed in McIntosh room and it was very comfortable and quiet. They had a very nice happy hour in the afternoon with a delicious charcuterie board. This was included in the stay. Alcohol was an additional charge. Upon check-in we were given chocolate chip cookies. Parking is free. Everyone was very friendly and we especially appreciated Marta who was so friendly and helpful with the registration process. The Inn is just a short walk into town where there are shops and restaurants. Highly recommend staying at Orchard Hill. read more

Spent one night at Orchard Hill after many years and many stays. What a huge disappointment. Rooms are shabby, toilet seat wobbly and loose. TV (approximately 21") was on a corner shelf and barely visible even though the room is quite small. Nob missing off window shutters, grout missing around bathtub surround, chipped paint. The real let down was a $17 charge for about a 1.5 oz glass of wine. And no, it wasn't a high end wine...Josh which is $16 a bottle retail. On check out, I brought the unusually small pour up to Becky at the Front Desk, she maintained that is all she could pour by law!!!! Are you serious? She or her employer is WRONG!!! It wasn't as if we were getting drunk...it was our ONLY glass of wine!!! Their Happy Hour was laughable...a small board with 2 clumps of grapes, 1 sliced apple, less than a sleeve of stale crackers, a small bowl of a peanut/nut mix, and a small bowl of some unappetizing pate which we never tried. You get one complimentary glass of wine (1.5 oz) and your choice was Sauvignon Blanc or a Cab. Complimentary breakfast was coffee, a small tray of fruit, bagels, English Muffins or cold cereal...you could PAY extra for a special breakfast. We will never go back. Unfortunately, they have lost their charm, we will no longer revisit. read more

We have enjoyed being at this splendid property in Julian, only a block off the Main Street but miles away in a serene and peaceful setting. We had a fabulous breakfast and walk with wild turkeys and deer this morning. The Lodge is gorgeous, craftsman style architecture and a stunning whole room mural in the dining room. Grounds are beautiful. Wonderful staff too!. Thank you all! My only recommendation is to work on the website. I couldn't tell if dinner is served there (it's not) but they listed a chef and reviews mentioned dinner. We will be back! read more

This review is for the Tesla Charger, and I guess a warning for any other African Americans that may want to stay here. On September 10th, while enjoying a vacation with my wife, we arrived at this establishment to charger our Tesla, as it has been listed not only on the Tesla Charger site, as well as on Google. When my wife went inside to inquire about the cost (the only known caveat of using this specific charger, which is a little underhanded in it's own right, but nonetheless) she was greeted by a young male, who wasn't much help. The desk person, a woman named Jennifer, snapped at my wife and said they dont offer the option. My wife came outside, a little hurt, and so I went inside with the proof I had that they DO in fact, offer the ability, and I was told that the "policy" changed. It may be entirely coincidental that they no longer offer the option, but given the treatment, stares, the need for additional staff to hang out as I entered the reception hall, I'd have to go with my instinct and say the color of our was specifically the reason we werent given the opportunity. Tesla owners, avoid this place. Fellow African Americans, definitely avoid it. read more

We have been going to OH for years. The new owners seem to be "nickel & diming" patrons. They now charge for a hot breakfast. What I am most upset about is the amenities fee they are now imposing. So cozy, a home away from home. So many wonderful things to note from the cozy lobby that hosted an amazing happy hour to the room that felt like a home away from home. The hotel is a block away from the main strip with lots of shops and food. This place was all the luxury you want from a hotel but also with all the comforts of home mixed in. plus I was able to bring my small pup and he LOVED laying by the fireplace in our room. Tucked away from the main road is rustic cozy place. You feel like you're going back in time but it makes you feel good inside. We stayed in the lodge and our room looked like something your grandmother decorated but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Our stay here was fantastic. The price was $$$$$$$$$$ but I believe they really worked to earn the money you're paying. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The rooms were decent sized with a small TV. The room décor was "antique" I would say. The building itself was very nice and well maintained. There were several hotel style rooms in the main building, and several detached cottages throughout the property. The breakfast was buffet style and there was a decent selection of your standard hotel breakfast fare. Everything was delicious and cooked well. Diana and the rest of the staff was very accommodating and so friendly. They asked if we wanted a room refresh, and by the time we had finished breakfast someone had replaced the towels, done the bed, etc. There was a bar inside the lobby, with couches and a wood fireplace. I did not stay at the Inn; I only visited to charge my EV, and still, the hospitality was exceptional. Every other car charging option in town having fallen through, and without a way to get home if they said no, I asked at the desk if I could pay to use the hotel's car charger. The answer - "How about you buy a beer at the bar and we call it macaroni." Done. Beer, porch, chair, and... a chocolate chip cookie. Who says no? As a bonus, I'll make it home without having to call a tow truck. Very grateful for this place - excited to stay here on my next visit to town! read more

My boyfriend took me here for a staycation and it was during the first snow of the season. The inn and property are beautiful! We had one of the cabins. They are so cute and private! I loved everything about this place! The people that worked at the inn were very nice and the people that were staying there are even nicer. It felt like such a family atmosphere. They have apps and wine/beer in the evening, which is complimentary. And the breakfast buffet was nice as well. Got a seat in the "inside patio" area. The scenery was gorgeous. Would highly recommend this place! Only 1 bad thing about our experience is when my boyfriend booked, the gentleman who helped him over the phone gave him the option of an inn with an extra big tub or regular tub. My boyfriend picked the extra big tub. However, when we got there and to our room, we had the regular tub. Normally it wouldn't be an issue, but my boyfriend planned such a romantic setting with tub and wine and candles etc., so he was extremely disappointed when he saw we didn't have what he booked. He called and they couldn't accommodate us because they were fully booked. I still give this place 5 stars because everything else made up for it. It would've been nice if they comped our dinner or something as a gesture. read more

The main purpose of my visit was to get away to get some writing done for a few days and Orchard Hill was perfect for that. My room had a nice built -n desk area with a comfy seat so I could peacefully work away with no distractions. The room itself was large, clean and bright with natural light. After working all day, I made myself to the lobby and met & chatted with other guests during a complimentary happy hour. The staff was great. I also happened to be there when they were hosting an open house for potential brides and grooms. They had a local band playing and the lobby was beautifully decorated. At night I was able to walk to the little downtown restaurants for dinner. I would definitely recommend this little gem of a hotel. read more

5 stars for location grounds staff and food!!! This is such a wonderful beautifully located spot with gorgeous vistas no matter where you are as far as lodging, walking or sitting around the premises ...the comp happy hour and entertainment is really lovely. Rooms are nice clean and comfortable but we were a middle unit and could hear everything from our adjoining neighbors rooms and that was a bit interesting; so maybe bring ear plugs jic. The complementary breakfast is very nice with the basics ramped up just a notch with quality ingredients and sumptuous flavors. The evening guest happy hour featured a charcuterie which was both a sublime visual feast and even better tastiness with a number of various delicious gourmet offerings. The entertainment is a nice touch and really adds to the entire relaxed, enjoyable vibe during happy hour. Loved the beautiful lobby decor and the large fire place there too...not to mention all of the fire pits located throughout the property. If you are a nature lover; you will love all of the trees, landscaping and the many chirping birds flying and soaring through the hotel. Last but not least; the night time sky in Julian and definitely from the hotel is incredible; make sure you take time to enjoy it as you will be amazed and don't want to miss out on it since most of us come from areas where light pollution has impacted our star gazing abilities. A few tips to note; when the cleaning service came they removed the half empty bottles of shampoo and conditioner from the shower and then did not replace them and the same with 1 of the 2 hotel robes we were still using. Lastly for some reason none of the wall outlets would charge our phones so we lost power a few times as a result. All in all I highly recommended this hotel nd we will definitely be returning! read more

I made a reservation for 3 nights over Thanksgiving weekend. I was then called multiple times because apparently their computer system doesn't ask for the name of any guests beyond the first and they need that information. Getting multiple calls on a weekend felt unprofessional and when I found out that they only wanted my guest's first name, it felt even more odd and unprofessional. Then I was informed that I was expected to set up a reservation for their overpriced Thanksgiving dinner and would not be allowed to stay at the Inn without doing so. This information was not listed on the website or in my confirmation email. I ended up getting my reservation cancelled and now need to scramble to find lodging elsewhere in the area. I would not recommend anyone stay here after my negative experience. I was not offered any kind of discount or waiver because of the lack of information I was given. read more

Hands down the best place to stay in Julian, and although it's not your standard 5 star hotel, Orchard Hill is like staying at your rich Grandmother's country house. The staff here are incredible - courteous, friendly, and more than happy to strike up a conversation when there's an awkward silence. Our favorite staff member was Becky, the sweetest little lady we met throughout our mini vacation in Julian! Hor de'euvres are complimentary in the afternoon (Cheeses, fruit, vegetables, pita, a spicy-sweet nut blend (I LOVED IT), and dried fruits), and each guest receives two free drinks at the bar during their stay. Somewhat surprisingly, they had a pretty solid selection of beers and some solid wine choices. Given that there's not exactly that much to do in Julian (pick some apples, eat some pie, wine tasting, look through shops...), staying here was a luxurious treat. The rooms (not the cottages, which are much more luxurious!) have an AC and heater (which we needed during our Winter stay), and the softest bathrobes and blankets. The bathrooms are completely stocked, and room service is daily (thank god). They have a bunch of VHS tapes you can borrow from the main lodge, and it was actually really nice to peruse VHS tapes for a change. We watched Forest Gump in our room on a rainy night, and everything was just...perfect. 90s tapes and all. Their breakfasts and dinners are, seriously, awesome We opted to have their complimentary breakfasts everyday of our trip not because we were stingy but because they were DELICIOUS. On one occasion, we had a breakfast casserole that my boyfriend just could not get enough of. Local juice and cider is always served, and there are regular Yoplait yogurt cups, granola, cereals, and fresh pastries (scones!) for anyone who doesn't feel like having a large meal. The dinner - $38 per person for a 4 course meal. They don't serve dinner every night, but it's a lovely experience in a very comfortable environment. Loved it. The inn and its nearby grounds are beautiful, and I can only hope to return one day. Only con? It's a bit pricey, but it's so worth it. read more

Went for my birthday and the next day was Valentines. We spent 2 nights. Thought the Inn was great. I signed up for the special Valentine's dinner $150 for two. Got seated 15 minutes late for no reason as there were tables. Waited another 10 minutes for water and then waited for our wine but the soup came first then got the wine then the salad. Next came a sorbet as a mouth cleanser but should have got a shrimp cocktail so we set aside the sorbet. More of a wait then the main course. Half way through I ordered another glass of wine( which was good ) I set my fork down and waited and waited then started eating again without ever getting my wine. We walked out not wanting to wait for desert. We have never ever had such bad service. It ruined the whole stay which was very special for us and expensive. I talked to the receptionist in the morning and got an apology---- big deal. read more

Hidden gem in Julian. My wife and I brought the family up last weekend, and can't say enough about our experience. Friendly service, and beyond accommodating for a family of five. The hotel is just off of Main Street, tucked away and quiet, but just a 1 minute walk from town. When you get into town, run into the lobby and sit in front of the beautiful fireplace, it's amazingly calming, and really sets the vibe. read more

So far this is my favorite Bed and Breakfast. Julian is a great sleepy town to visit and Orchard Hill Country Inn is a very nice place to stay. We stayed in the main lodge in a beautifully romantic appointed room. Everything was super clean, cozy and had a lot of character. The girl at the front desk was sweet and would do anything to make us comfortable. Every morning they have a great breakfast which includes locally made apple cider. I'm not usually a fan of apple cider, but that is because I hadn't tried this one yet. It is amazing. we ended up buying tons of it to bring home with us. They also make this scrumptious apple bread. You toast it and slather it with butter or cream cheese and you don't want to stop! The grounds are beautiful, there is a ton of quartz everywhere in the ground. They have a little gift shop, where I purchased some quality mugs for home to remind us of this trip. If you are looking for a romantic place to get away, this is the place.
