They have a wonderful selection of all sorts of seafood, including a couple of fish that I'd never heard of. Fresh or frozen, smoked, live, pre-cooked, filleted... you name it, they've probably got it. Each week's selection varies, depending on what the fishermen bring in, and they're only open on Fridays and Saturdays. The staff are really chatty and provide great advice if you're not sure what to do with your fish. It's run by a group of fishermen; everything comes straight off the boat and is very reasonably priced compared with other fishmongers (not that there's many on this side of the river). It's definitely worth making an effort to visit here, this is one of the best shops for seafood in town.

It opened in December and is a wee shop but with a lot of selection. I wasn't buying anything as I was off to meet a friend, but I had a bit of a nosey all the same. Whole monkfish, plaice, hake, skate as well as langoustines and scallops were out on display and all looked delicious. They also have a range of smoked products from Kintyre including salmon, haddock, clams and kippers. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and I promised to return soon to buy something. This shop is well worth a visit if you're looking for locally sourced fish and seafood.

Hurrah! It wasn't long before I was tempted into the new store by their offers board outside. The set up is a little different now. Most of the fish is on ice in the store window (I think there are more freezers and chiller cabinets in the back, if you want something that isn't on display. They also have a couple of shelves to hold other bits and pieces like lemons, duck eggs and so on. I bought three sea bream fillets, as I was planning dinner for two and you can never be sure how big a fish fillet will be - I'd rather buy too much than not enough. This came to a very reasonable £6.50, even more reasonable because they turned out to be quite large. The staff member I spoke to was great and chatted to me cheerfully as he packaged them up. Later, the fish turned out to be delicious - nothing beats really fresh sea bream. I'll definitely be back soon to try out the other things they have on offer. I'm tempted by the duck eggs (only 45p each!) and the huge langoustines I saw in the window. The only thing I'd be careful with is the fruit; while the fish (and presumably the game) is kept fresh on the ice, the fruit sits in boxes on the shelves. At room temperature. As I right this Glasgow is having a mini heat wave and room temperature is rather warm - the result being that some of the fruit was starting to look a little unhappy. However, I doubt this will be a problem for very long.

Perfect for a quirky romantic date night or a night with friends with a continental feel. All fairy lights and fir branches, it felt like being in an enchanted forest in Hansel and Gretel! There was a rotisserie alongside the Fish Plaice and staff were really helpful. The bijoux menu included a selection of flavoursome fish delights. I had the fish pie which was the best I've ever had - and as a comment from a frequent feaster of fish that's no small feat! My fellow dined had the salmon and haddock burger which I'm assured was awesome. We didn't use the bar but they had Heverlee beers and warm cider as well as prosecco. There was water on the tables too. There were faux sheepskin rugs to keep your botty from freezing in the indoor/outdoor space, fleece blankets for you to snuggle and patio heaters. It was so pleasant I took my coat off but my partner wasn't finding it so balmy! I hope they do another pop up soon- this was a really delightful and delicious treat.

I know how mussels should be handled and tested -- I grew up in France and trained at a French cookery school -- so I am very familiar with proper preparation. These were clearly not fit for consumption. I contacted the company straight away with photos, but the process was disorganized. First, I was told my email wasn't received, then I had to call, then resend everything. Finally, I was met with a patronizing response questioning whether I actually understood how mussels work, which was completely inappropriate from a customer service perspective. This isn't about the £4 -- it's about safety. Sending out mussels in this condition risks people becoming ill. The way this was handled was poor, and I won't be ordering again.

However, I have been in here on quite a few occasions with mother dearest when she's determined to make 'a special fish pie'. Be assured that it's never anything special, smells faintly unappetising and looks very unappetising. Yet, this is purely down to her cooking not the fresh produce she buys from here. No, the produce stocked here is fresh, fragrance free (the best indicator with fish) and neatly presented in an array of white plastic trays with clear price tags next to them. As well as stocking the usual fishy suspects (lemon sole, monk fish or cod anyone?), they also have a good selection of shell fish, homemade fish cakes and other goodies on offer. The staff are very knowledgeable about which fish to use for what and alert you to any special offers they have on or 'limited edition' products in. The staff also provide a high standard of service which is quick and friendly. It's perhaps the speed at which they service that means they is barely ever a queue in here despite the constant stream of customers. Personally, I would say it may be slightly overpriced. However, I also hold up my hands and admit that I don't really know much about fish buying; apart from the nice tidy packets you can pick up in Tesco of what doesn't actually look like fish. Hence, if you're a fish lover or a budding cook then you should check this place out and you'll probably not mind spending that little bit extra.

That's a pretty good sign…read more Another good sign is how often I see their vans parked outside certain of Glasgow's exciting fish restaurants. Now, I don't cook fish as often as I'd like, but if I have the time to plan ahead and there's a specific dish I want to make, this is my first choice fish. Not only fish, though. This a fishmonger, poulterer and game specialist. Sure, drop in when you're in search of sea bream and the best you can find at Tesco is "white fish fillets" but have a look and see what else they have. Their poussins are very good, and, when in season, it's well worth picking up a couple of pheasants to roast - they're as easy as chicken, even if you're not a confident cook - just watch out for the shot. See it as an opportunity to go try something you haven't had before. I suspect people find going into a fishmonger's to be slightly intimidating because they don't know what they're doing. You don't really need to - the staff are very well informed and they're happy to walk you through the things they have for sale. They'll even suggest how best to cook it if you ask for some points. Also, don't be worried by the fact that prices are shown as per kilo, rather than per portion. That can make things sound more expensive than they are. You can always ask for either £5 worth of, or 400 g of almost whatever you want to avoid over spending. So go in and have a look, if only to buy some lemons and some duck eggs, if only to be nosy. Chat to the staff, see what they recommend and if you're feeling brave, try something you've never even heard of just because it's in season. You'll get great service and the very freshest fish.

Well, I knew Fantoosh Fish on Great Western Road was long gone and I had been planning to wander…read moreonto Byres Road instead when I passed KP's, which I'd somehow never seen before. I'm glad I spotted it. It's only little but they have plenty on offer and everything looks super fresh. I asked the fishmonger to fillet me some sea bream (always a favourite) to take home with me and I came so close to buying dressed crab as well. It's a good thing I didn't spot the langoustines until I was already leaving - they were huge! Two sea bream fillets set me back by around £4.50 which I thought was a fair price from a proper fishmongers. The fishmonger did a great job of filleting them too and although he warned me I should still watch out for bones I never actually found any. The fish itself was delicious when I got it home to cook it and I'll definitely drop in for more next time I'm in the area.
