However, I have been in here on quite a few occasions with mother dearest when she's determined to make 'a special fish pie'. Be assured that it's never anything special, smells faintly unappetising and looks very unappetising. Yet, this is purely down to her cooking not the fresh produce she buys from here. No, the produce stocked here is fresh, fragrance free (the best indicator with fish) and neatly presented in an array of white plastic trays with clear price tags next to them. As well as stocking the usual fishy suspects (lemon sole, monk fish or cod anyone?), they also have a good selection of shell fish, homemade fish cakes and other goodies on offer. The staff are very knowledgeable about which fish to use for what and alert you to any special offers they have on or 'limited edition' products in. The staff also provide a high standard of service which is quick and friendly. It's perhaps the speed at which they service that means they is barely ever a queue in here despite the constant stream of customers. Personally, I would say it may be slightly overpriced. However, I also hold up my hands and admit that I don't really know much about fish buying; apart from the nice tidy packets you can pick up in Tesco of what doesn't actually look like fish. Hence, if you're a fish lover or a budding cook then you should check this place out and you'll probably not mind spending that little bit extra.

That's a pretty good sign…read more Another good sign is how often I see their vans parked outside certain of Glasgow's exciting fish restaurants. Now, I don't cook fish as often as I'd like, but if I have the time to plan ahead and there's a specific dish I want to make, this is my first choice fish. Not only fish, though. This a fishmonger, poulterer and game specialist. Sure, drop in when you're in search of sea bream and the best you can find at Tesco is "white fish fillets" but have a look and see what else they have. Their poussins are very good, and, when in season, it's well worth picking up a couple of pheasants to roast - they're as easy as chicken, even if you're not a confident cook - just watch out for the shot. See it as an opportunity to go try something you haven't had before. I suspect people find going into a fishmonger's to be slightly intimidating because they don't know what they're doing. You don't really need to - the staff are very well informed and they're happy to walk you through the things they have for sale. They'll even suggest how best to cook it if you ask for some points. Also, don't be worried by the fact that prices are shown as per kilo, rather than per portion. That can make things sound more expensive than they are. You can always ask for either £5 worth of, or 400 g of almost whatever you want to avoid over spending. So go in and have a look, if only to buy some lemons and some duck eggs, if only to be nosy. Chat to the staff, see what they recommend and if you're feeling brave, try something you've never even heard of just because it's in season. You'll get great service and the very freshest fish.

I've been in here a few times for bits and pieces, and the staff are such lovely and pleasant women. They'll give you advice where needed, eg recipes/seasoning, and they'll tell you the best place to get something they don't provide. I went in and got a bag of 30 small prawns for less than a pound and almost fainted. Less than a pound! Excellent quality as well, so it's not like you're paying less for lesser quality. If you want something big/obscure such as a whole crab, or swordfish loin, they won't have it in store but they can order it in for you, which is great!

Ever since I tried it though, I have been hooked. I have always preferred white meats and fish to red meat, so my love for prawns really widened my horizons, and made me try more fish. I can now officially say that I love it! I went to Pisces one afternoon on the way home from work to pick up some king prawns. My friends and I were recreating Come Dine With Me, and I was determined to win with my juicy prawn tempura starter, and I had been told that Pisces was the place to come. The fishmonger was extremely nice, de-veining my prawns for me (I'm still a bit squeamish) and even recommending how I cook them. I left with a bag of around ten large prawns, for a very competitive price of under £9. I think he might have even given me a wee discount! Fantastic shop, don't be afraid to ask for cooking tips either, my prawn tempura turned out brilliantly!

I took 2 medium live crabs for only £4 each and 2kg of the freshest largest most shiniest mussels I've ever had, fresh from the Shetlands. All completely delicious. I went in towards the end of the day looking for a quick dinner option, and what I got were two ENORMOUS (like srsly double those pititful things they sell you at waitrose) for around £4! And I could have easily fed 3 with that amount of fish. Now, this might have been yesterday's catch and hence so cheap, but it was absolutely delicious- perfectly tender, not fatty, and fresh tasting. Some of the other types of fish are more expensive but I think they are still reasonably priced and better than you'd do than the supermarket. I feel verrry lucky to have the Wee Fish Market right on my doorstep and Anderson's greengrocer just next door- it makes supporting local businesses the easiest thing ever and makes dinner a cinch!

They are absolutely huge, really fresh and tasted amazing. The rest of the food is awesome as well, even if you're just picking up a piece of haddock or something then it is the best place around. Admittedly slightly more expensive than the supermarkets, but when you're getting fish of this quality that is fresh every day then you can't really complain.

You can even get slices of these vac packed (well - they can vac pack anything for you) to keep in the fridge for a few days. Soft, flaky, smoky, delicate - great cold or gently warmed up. All this is set at the quaint Newhaven harbour - completely with picturesque lighthouse, dock with seats to sit and watch the boats from and a couple of restaurants. Makes it all worth the trip!

The line can be long but moved quickly. We secured our sandwich and headed back to our hotel to eat it. The seagulls can be a bit much so we didn't want to enjoy them at the tables they offer. The sandwich was incredible!! You could taste the freshness and the other ingredients didn't overwhelm the tasty crab! We would highly recommend coming here!!

Kimbles is a family business that has been in the St Enoch Centre since 2002. They sell pre-boxed…read morechocolates and single chocolates that can be boxed to your specifications. A couple of years ago, their shop expanded to include a little café, where you can enjoy their chocolates with a hot drink. My favourite combination has to be tablet and a tea with no sugar, so you can get the contrast in the two. I bought a box of the chocolates for Maw once and she said they were fantastic, although they're the kind of ones you can only eat 2 or 3 of at a time. For it being such a small, quality business, prices actually aren't that bad.

Anyhow, I recall her excitement at finding this place a while back but never having been in. I took it upon myself to do all the work and pick her up some chocolates for a mini-celebration. They might have been better than the ones I have just worked through from Marks and Spencers I got from Christmas, and were certainly better than Thorntons. Everything in Thorntons sort of tastes the same, in the same way everything in McDonalds also tastes the same. The staff were friendly and chatty and more or less done the work on my behalf to be fair with regards to buying the chocolates, all I done was actually pay for them. Didn't pay as much as I was prepared to either so I treated myself to a cup of coffee, which was also above average. I am a romantic man. Who knows how to treat himself as well.
