Can't believe I've not reviewed this place yet! I'm a little biased because I live right upstairs from this gorgeous wee shop, and it does have it's downfalls, but the staff are lovely and there's always a decent selection of seasonal fruit and veg, along with some really interesting ingredients like Harissa paste, pesto, organic fudge, and nut butters.
Sometimes it works out way cheaper than tescos, sometimes a bit pricier, but I think it's really important to support local businesses like this one so is rather buy a little less from here (and probably cut down on waste too!). They've got a drinks fridge filled with delicious treats like coconut water and various healthy sodas/juices, plus all their nuts and grains are really reasonably priced- I can't believe how much you pay for walnuts in a commercial supermarket! But here you can get a decent sized bag for under 2 quid.
The downfalls- they don't take card, and are often low on change, but there's a cash point just next door at Londis so its usually not an issue. As it's a real grocers they don't have lots of imported stock and as such the choice can sometimes be limited. You're not going to find mangos here year round- but do you really want to? The fruitsn veg might not be the pristine manicured versions you're used to seeing in the shops, but are much more sustainably sourced and usually very very tasty.
I come here almost every day and I encourage anyone living in the area to think twice before going to Tescos and stop here instead! Otherwise it just might disappear, and that would really be a shame. read more
