Wee Chippy is hands-down the best chip shop in North America! Run by the most affable, Scottish bloke, Wee Chippy does not disappoint! The chips are cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. The biggest dilemma here is deciding among the myriad of toppings and dips, and which to pair. We tried the Applewood Smoked and Italian Black Truffle. My personal fave was the Black Truffle...mouth savoring and a bit crispier on the outside than the Applewood. I paired these delightful creations with the Chipotle Ketchup, Homemade Truffle Mayo and the Creamy Ranch -- not all at the same time! My favorite pairing was the Italian Black Truffle with the Creamy Ranch or Homemade Truffle Mayo. I can only imagine what these tasty treats would taste like accompanied with a nice, hearty ale! My only complaint is that the guitar-toting busker's amp was a bit loud which made ordering slightly challenging. His music was good, but perhaps he could turn it down a notch or two. Don't make a trip to the Boardwalk without a visit to The Wee Chippy! You won't be disappointed. Look forward to a fiesta in your mouth! Tip: It's a little hard to find. Technically it's located on Ocean Front, but it's really on Westminster across from Zelda's Corner Deli. Oh....and rumor has it that they will be introducing Fish & Chips come February 2014! I can't wait!! read more

Totally worth it, the chippys are not wee. Get the truffle mayo!! Good good good good

D-LISH! The fish and chips are made fresh to order so nothing is "sittin' out" here. We had the garlic fries and the rosemary fries and they were amazing! The tartar sauce was great and their coleslaw was quite yummy! My suggestion, if you're super hungry, get the 2 fish deal! You'll LOVE IT! read more

Best fries ever.Alone, worth the trip through the traffic and crowds at Venice Beach. If you haven't tried it yet, make sure to hit up The Wee Chippy for tummy flavorful handcut fries. read more

The Wee Chippy - Applewood Smoked and Italian Black Truffle with Parmesean. Yumm! - Fish & Chips Near Me - Venice, California

Arrived at The Wee Chippy 5 minutes late this past Wednesday. It was my first visit and I as disappointed because I really had my taste buds ready for fish n chips. I waited until the next day and my partner and I walked down to Venice from our Santa Monica apartment and got there well before closing. We both ordered Fish 'n Chips and got our fries seasoned 2 different ways so we could try a couple flavors out. Everything was delicious. The fish was fresh and the batter was light and crispy and not greasy. Very nice. Some of the best fish 'n chips I've had. We met the owner Joe. He's a nice guy who helped us with our order. We'll be back soon. read more

The Wee Chippy - Fish 'n Chips from The Wee Chippy. Mmmmmmmmm!!!!!! - Fish & Chips Near Me - Venice, California

Some of the best frys I've ever had! Had the jalapeño salt and chipotle ketchup, what a combo. Seriously friendly staff and great location. Although I couldn't find the hours online, their Winter hours are fri-sun 12-5, FYI. Thanks Chippy and see you soon. read more

Their fish and chips are as tasty as the name is clever. They fry everything to-order so expect a little wait. My wife and I split an order with two pieces of fish and a single order of fries - and it was more than enough food. The fancy condiments were a neat touch. I loved the spicy chipotle bbq and tangy lime salt. There is a single picnic table to eat at; while you wait for the food, scout out a bench on the boardwalk to eat. The fish had a nice light batter and was perfectly fried. The chips were crunchy on the outside and creamy in the middle. read more

Drove out to Venice Saturday. There at 12:30, closed. Seems like opening hours are unreliable. Do not make a trip of it.

Brilliant Fish 'n Chips! I am a Brit so you know what I am talking about! The fish was covered in a golden crisp batter, the fish itself was flakey and perfectly cooked. The chips were amazing! The portion size was more than I could handle and I took some back to the hotel for late night munch. read more

I walked by down an ally looking place and saw this fish and chips. I love French fries and when I tried these they were a dream. I have never had any like this. They are almost indescribable. Soft and crunchy and well seasoned. They specialize with only fish and chips maybe that is there secret to making the perfect fries! O.O read more

The Wee Chippy - Yummy chips! ^,^ - Fish & Chips Near Me - Venice, California

Stopped by the food court and discovered this gem on the Venice Broadwalk. The debonair Scottish charmer/chef doesn't cook your order until you place it. The fries are served piping hot; crispy/crunchy on the outside, mushy on the inside...just how I like them! I would highly recommend the applewood smoked fries...salivating just thinking about them as I write this. The dips are the perfect accompaniment, a nice balance and a culinary treat for your taste buds. The service is prompt, considering your fries are made while you wait, but don't worry - the proprietor, Joe, is such a chatty fellow; he will regale you with tales of his travels and observations that your fries will be ready before you know it. Will definitely be coming back for more. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff and amazingly good food - I'd be a fool not to. read more

Seriously awesome place, the fries are fresh and delicious and you get a lot of them. Plus, the employees are actually nice, unlike a lot of other jaded Venice beach businesses. The free seasonings and dipping sauces are also a big plus. Go here for your fry needs :) read more

Foods really good and fairly accurately priced. You could split it as a lunch between two people if you're medium to light eaterd

Came here ordered the Calamari combo and Fish basket combo. When we received our plate it was full, but little did we know there were like a small amount of calamari crumb pieces in the plate and all fries ! The fries were soggy ! The fish taste like the frying oil had been used repeatedly! Our meal was 29 dollars and this will be our first and last time here. We chose this place because of the yelp reviews and pictures but our plates looked nothing like the fish and calamari ! I know the employee who cooked our food had to know what he served us and didn't care because it was later . It's a 2 star because the woman who took our order had good customer service! We did come later around 6 which is close to closing but the quality of food should always be the same ! Also, we waited 22 minutes for food that wasn't even worth it . Never again. read more

Seriously, this place is incroyable. Fresh, crispy, cooked to order with flavored salts like Applewood smoked, black truffle, and wild jalapeño with dippers like chipotle ketchup, truffle mayo (I love my truffle), and ranch, to name just a few. The walk-up window keeps things simple, and you get a pretty good amount for what you pay. Honestly, you guys. Best fish and chips anywhere. read more

This place is literally the definition of "hole-in-the-wall." Definitely easy to miss! It's located in a little alley in Venice. Had to use navigation while riding my bike rental and still missed it! SO WORTH THE HUNT! Best fried fish I've had when it comes to "fish and chips!" Golden brown and crispy on the outside, while still juicy and tender on the inside! There is large variety of sauces offered as well as seasoning for their chips (fries)! I went with truffle mayo and smoked applewood seasoning! Amazing! Definitely recommend trying both! Keep it simple and order the "fish and chips!" You'll love it! read more

While it's possible the smell from the nearby dispensary has impacted my review, this fish & chip joint blew my mind. This is just off the boardwalk by Ben & Jerry's and Joe's Pizza. The fish was obviously freshly battered and fried. The liberal application of salt made the fresh flavors really pop. The fries at chip shops can often struggle from being a second class citizen. These fries were thick cut and likely double cooked. The insides were soft and the outside was as crisp as a potato chip. The chipotle aoli was a perfect compliment to the fried food. They also provide malt vinegar on request. You should request it. This was a GREAT find. read more

This little shop serves tasty, crispy fish with handcut chips (fries) that you can flavor from a list of varied flavored salts. Like everything on the beach, not cheap, but a better bargain because the food is really good. The little passage where this shop is located is a good place for a group to choose since there are several shops with a variety of ethnic food choices. read more

Very good fish and chips. Definitely get two pieces of fish not one like I did. It made me want more. The chips were very California-iced in that they had all the different flavors to choose from. A nice fish joint! read more

If you can deal with fending off the Venice street people and finding a place to park, this is the place to be when you want fish and chips. Even with its tiny window setup and utter lack of seating or shade - that's how good it is. The fish is crispy and smokin' hot, never greasy tasting, and the fries, ditto. On top of that, the fries are doubly delicious because you get to choose your favorite seasoning and your favorite dipping sauce (the truffle mayo for $1 more is amazing). The only thing that bugs me is every time we go, they "just ran out" of all the drinks except for maybe water and one type of bottled soft drink. The frosty root beer listed on the menu always sounds so great, but when I get to the window it's always, "Sorry...fresh out." Even so, friendly service and great flavors make this my go-to when it comes to fish and chips. read more

This was a great little hole in the wall with delicious food. The fish and chips were amazing! This is a walk-up window, and they have one picnic table for seating, so this is the perfect place to get some fish and chips and walk a few feet down to the beach, find a bench, and enjoy a delicious snack or lunch. We were lucky to be able to share the lone picnic table with a family who were visiting from Italy. They told us they came back several times during their week-long vacation because they loved the food! After trying it ourselves, we were in complete agreement! The fish was perfectly battered and not too greasy, the fries were great, and the selection of sauces was fantastic. I loved the chipotle ketchup - yum. This is a great little find. read more

My cousin found this literal hole in the wall fries stand. At first I was a little hesitate seeing as how it was in fact- a hole in the wall. But never judge a book by its cover. The fries there are probably the best I have ever had. I usually need some sort of condiment to add to my fries but I was more than content with eating them alone. I got the the Italian truffle fries and they were AMAZING. The chipotle sauce was also very good, had a nice kick to it. Along with picking sauces you can also pick the type of salt to add on it too. Great snack food to eat while enjoying a great day at the beach. read more

I didn't know fish and chips could be this delicious. I was drawn in by the sight of fresh cut french fries. The fish was lightly battered, perfectly cooked, and served fresh after a perfect 8 minute time quote. Staff was friendly and awesome, and seemed very happy to be there. I would recommend going out of your way to eat here. read more

I'm a fish and chips freak and this place I give 5 stars! Everything was made to perfection. Last time I got the truffle fries it was so good. This time I got the garlic fries. Oh so delicious. This is my favourite place to eat when I come to LA area. I get plenty of fish and chips and perch and chips at home in Ontario, as I live between Lake Huron and Lake Erie, so I am picky about fish and chips.....but these guys do it well, nice hand cut fries, and not overly battered fish. The choices for sauces and seasonings are plentiful and homemade. Get your great food and sit on a bench and enjoy along with all the quirky sights of Venice Beach. read more

Best place to eat on Venice Boardwalk! Just a tiny little window in a tiny little alley but the flavor is big! The fish is perfect and the black truffle fries are to die for. The awesome reviews for this hole in the wall spot in the middle of mediocre beach food drew me in, but the food fell short for me. First off - it was not busy at all, but it took a very long time for our food to come out. Not necessarily a bad thing, since that usually means the food is hot, fresh, and delicious. The anticipation heightens your expectations. We ordered a bottle of coke to accompany our order, and were completely disappointed when we took the first sip to find it was warm. Completely warm. We walked back up to the counter to ask for a cup of ice to which they replied, "We don't have any." Hm. Once we received our food, it looked delicious. The sauces that we ordered were tasty, and even though the fries were cut a little too thick for my liking, they were pretty good as well. The fish is the star of the show and that's where my disappointment lies. It was pretty bland, the batter was tasteless, and we had to completely doctor it up with the sauces to make it taste somewhat decent. I've had some pretty great fish and chips, and with reviews like this, it better be amazing. We didn't even finish it. My search for some awesome food at the beach continues... read more

I love this place! I had such a great first experience and know I will frequently be coming back. The staff & owner were super friendly and take a lot of pride in their food and their rockin homemade sodas! Who does that anymore?!?! The fries are homemade, thick, salty & cooked to perfection & the fish was fresh, flaky and not overly breaded (I hate that!). They also make their own blend of seasoned salts & dips, so there is a variety of flavor to their perfectly simple menu. I can't wait to go back! read more

Great fries! Large cut fries, dark brown and crisp on the outside, but light and fluffy on the inside. I had the Bangkok ginger salt on mine and was very tasty. My fries were nice and hot (temp) the way fries should be served. The two owners were there working, and explained that they make the fries only as it is ordered, so they are always hot and crisp. Great job guys. If you are on the Venice Boardwalk and craving fries, try 'em out. read more

$11.50 for a 4oz piece of fish and loads of chips. Not to shabby at all. The lady serving was super helpful the food tasted fresh, probably because it is cooked to order, non greasy and the portions were decent. There isn't much shade if you decide to eat outside but to be fair your in LA and so if sun is a problem for you I guess that maybe being by the beach isn't the right place for you. There isn't much more I can say. Being from the UK I have had my fair amount of fish and chips in the past so it was good to find somewhere in Venice that fed the memory and tasted great. Soooo all in all - the food was good, the service was good but it does close early evening which is a shame. So yes, go try it, I don't think you will be disappointed going there unless you don't want fish and chips. read more
