Was a little bit sceptical of fish and chips here in LA. But this place is really great. Chips were excellent and came with lashings of vinegar. Fish was crispy and not soggy at all. Will be coming back. read more

Legit. Fish was flaky. Does not appear frozen. Potatoes are fresh cut. Variety of flavors. Pricing is good for the quality. Will not eat this thing anywhere else, cause no one does it better. read more

I expected more from this place because I heard good things about it. The fries I had were pretty average though and nothing special. I had the smoked applewood fries, the hint of the flavour was definitely there, but it wasn't as prominent as I'd hope for. Sometimes it tasted dry and bland because of this lack of flavouring. Also the fries seemed slightly undercooked, it was way softer than I hoped. The portions of the fries were pretty big and I liked how they were giant fries. They had a special bbq like sauce with the fries. In the end, the experience was okay and I probably wouldn't go back to this place. But I suppose I'm willing to give it another shot since reviews here seem really good and I've heard good things... read more

The Wee Chippy - Smoked Applewood - Fish & Chips Near Me - Venice, California

this place was the bomb. come here every time we're in marina del rey. lived in australia and the UK and the only thing they're missing are mushy peas! read more

Great little hole in the wall. Literally. Find the hole in the wall and order. Pros: Huge customization options on the fries, tried different salts (California Rosemary and Applewood Smoked - preferred the smoked ones but the Rosemary is great too). Dipping sauces work out very well and there are many options. Batter is light and crispy and just a little sweet, fish inside is steamed well. Hits the spot and comes in a little to-go box that is very convenient. Drink options are limited (no fountain here), but the Ginger Beer is good (I like it spicy, this one was pretty good). Drinks are apparently made for the place as the label bears the "Wee Chippy" name. One piece of fish and an order of fries is all a person needs, unless you're starving. Cons: Expensive. 2 meals with drinks came out to almost $35. It's worth it if you have a sudden craving for above average Fish and chips, but not an everyday meal. Wait times are long, but this is likely because everything is fresh. Order, walk around for a bit, then come pick it up. Very little seating outside (I took it to go - who wants to eat in an alley when the beach is right there?) Not much negative to say about this place - if you like fried fish and don't mind spending a little extra, give it a shot. read more

ahhhhhhh freshly hand-cut fries, I've missed you so much. The guy who works here is really really nice. The fries were really hot when it came out, but they were really soft on the inside. I got the salt and vinegar fries but the vinegar or salt was not detectable at all (?) so the fries were plain AF. Love the herbs they dashed on top of my fries though. read more

On our Venice adventure we wanted seafood, but not sushi, so we tried here since we LIVE LOVE Fish & Chips! I wanted to give this place a 5 because the name drew us here and this guy eating his Fish with his kids while we were walking into the alley was saying it's SO good, sorry to evesdrop buddy. The good thing was that it's not just batter, good fish, u can taste it. But when I think of a hole in wall on Venice strip I'm thinking cheaper, not $14 for F&C. Their handcut fries just don't cut it. And their Shrimp Chips was just soso the Fish was much better. read more

Fries over Everything. Cool little hole in the wall (literally). Relatively small menu, with great execution. I only got fries this last time, and they took about 10 minutes. They were $4.50 but well worth it. Very long cut, thick fries with large crystals or salt. Why 4 stars? They're overpriced, and the staff seemed like they were ready to start a grease fire and burn the building down just to get away from work. Not a single smile here haha. read more

What can I say this place is so phenomenal that I've been back twice before my vacation is over. The fries are super fresh and I highly recommend the Applewood seasoning. I've tried the creamy ranch sauce and the truffle sauce and they are both equally as delicious. Last time I came with my two children I ordered three regular sizes and we had a lot left over so I recommend that you share. A must visit one in town! read more

The Wee Chippy - Steve K only has 2 reviews on yelp. One of them being Wee Chippys. Left me a rude comment. - Fish & Chips Near Me - Venice, California

Ireland is my favorite place, mostly due to the chippy's strewn all across the country famous for serving fish and chips in the daily newspaper with a side of curry to compliment. (and guinness if you're lucky). In Los Angeles you must settle for mediocre Fish & Chips, but not if you live (or visit) Venice Beach thanks to The Wee Chippy. When I first became a patron of The Wee Chippy, they only had chips (fries). with dozens of combinations of salts and sauces. I fell in love with them then and there. These are no ordinary fries. Fresh cut, fried to order and packaged in a take out box that is perfect to carry up and down the boardwalk. The day I walked up and they added Fish to the mix, I died. Not literally, but when I took that first bite into their perfectly fried fish it was the closest thing to heaven I can imagine. Most fried fish is mediocre due to the inconsistent or over-powering batter. Not here. Spritzed with Lemon and a dash of salt and pepper, this batter is beyond excellence. Not to mention real deal Malt Vinegar to go along. As far as yelp goes, this place deserves more than 5 stars! I visit all the time and when I'm in a hurry I simply order over the phone and pick it up 10 minutes later. ------ Had to edit this review to add some last thing. GET THE TRUFFLE MAYO... LIKE LOTS OF IT!! read more

This ugly strip mall is becoming a magnet for cheap, good snacks. I love the Peruvian place next door to the Wee Chippy. By far some of the best fries in L.A. Simple, thick fries with a creative assortment of salts and sauces that will satisfy any savory craving. If you are craving fries, these are the epitome of what you are dreaming of. The space is a little less than minimal, but the subway tile adds some charm to their frying box, even though you'll end up eating the fries curbside or overlooking the crackheads on the boardwalk. 100% worth it. read more

Best Fish & Chips I've ever had. Can definitely recommend the applewood smoked fries!

I'm a bit late on my review, but here she goes... It was a few months ago. I was walking some friends down the boardwalk who had never been to Venice Beach. When we all got hungry, everyone went to the well-known little-bit-of-everything burger bar that I'd visited one time too many. I decided I'd try my new discovery: The Wee Chippy. I never thought I'd be dining at my new favorite place in Venice! I've had fish n chips at pubs in nearly every country in North America and the Caribbean and had many great gastronomical memories, but NOTHING topped the Chippy! A plate of perfectly-fried fish and excellently seasoned fries were mated with a perfectly-balanced tartar sauce and their truffle mayo. For about $12 (Very reasonable considering the high rent that comes with an oceanfront location.) I was in fat boy heaven! And the homemade rootbeer? Insatiable!! If you're reading this review, the Wee Chippy has at least caught your attention. All I can say is DIVE ON IN!!! I enjoyed some friendly banter with the staff, ate my meal on the bench in front of the window, and nearly melted in ecstasy. I'm not exaggerating here. Even if you're not into fish, the fries are more than worth it. Cheers! read more

The regular fries I got was so good! It was fried fresh so it was still nice and hot. The size of the fries were nice and big, so it was crunchy on the outside and nice and potatoe-y on the inside. The portion of the regular size was big. we shared and we were both so full!! The salt flavor I got was rosemary and that was really nice. It really was a hint of rosemary, so it went well when I dipped my fries into their yummy mayo. Can't believe how good the fries were, and also the service was great! Hi-5 :) read more

Yes please. Nothing better than crispy hot fries and the dipping sauces. I like the pacific sea salt fries with a side of truffle mayo. Wow. I haven't had fish and chips this good since my last visit to the UK a few years back. I've been to the boardwalk tons of times but never knew about this place. Luckily, my friend had it bookmarked and we decided to give it a shot. For $12, you get two big portions of perfectly fried fish, so perfectly flaky and crispy that you don't need any of the unique dipping sauces they have to offer. For fries, I tried both the rosemary and truffle fries. While both were exquisite in terms of flavor, the rosemary fries went above and beyond, taking my taste buds on a heavenly ride. Although there is no attached seating area (besides, you know, the whole beach), the friendly staff and mouth-watering food has made a loyal customer out of me. read more

Alright, this is what I might call a chip shop that expatriated from England and got a tan. It's not super traditional in that you can get a bunch of wacky toppings, dipping sauce etc. It is traditional in the actual fish and chips though. The chips are very much a UK style, the fish has a light batter and both take well to salt and vinegar. I'm a traditionalist and I got for just the stock salt and vinegar, but other folks seem to be enjoying the various add-ons and toppings. There can be a bit of a wait, especially on the weekend. After all, it is Venice and they're operating out of a very small space with only two fryers. If you want fast, there's some shitty pizza by the slice ready at any of the other surrounding establishments. read more

Cool spot in a fun location, the cashier guy was nice, but the food itself was pretty meh. Some of the fries were good, some weren't fully cooked. Same goes for the calamari, some were pieces were not fully cooked and felt cold to the touch. Also, the breading for the shrimp and calamari is a bit thick. read more
