    Seafood Combo and Chips
    Jetrina M.

We went here for a very casual dinner on a Friday evening. It's located right off the beach in an area that has multiple eateries. You order at a window and there is no dedicated seating, but some communal seating with the other restaurants. We took our food and ate on the beach. We ordered the fish and chips and the combo and chips (fish and shrimp). The portions were huge and then fish and shrimp were fried perfectly. You can choose a salt flavor for your fries as well and j chose a garlic seasoning. Would definitely recommend this place for a delicious but casual fish and chips. Only downside was the seating, but not too bad since you can just sit by the water.

Ordered a box of chips because I smelled it from someone else and asked them where they got the fries. They are hand cut Belgian type fries where it's thick cut and perfectly crispy on the outside and piping out in the middle where you go "ahhh ahhhhh ahhh" with your mouth because it's so fresh and hot. I captioned the photo "fry facial" because you are literally getting a facial with the steam when you opened the box. It comes with two toppings and a sauce if your choice. I went with garlic and rosemary. Winning combo when it's already seasoned with salt. Every bite had both. Couldn't even finish because the order was plentiful. Will def come back.

    Order here.

This is a little grab and go snack shack just off of the main boardwalk in Venice Beach. It's well decorated and colorful. - I purchased the fries and I found them very delicious. The person taking my order was polite and answered all of my questions. The service was quick and I enjoyed my experience.

Great little spot on the cutest plaza off the main strip. Fresh hand cut fries. Food hit the spot, a tad oily but it's fried seafood so ya know. Great service and came out pretty quick, hot and fresh. Love the vegan fish and chips option they had, something for everyone

A+ Fishies & jalapeño seasoned Chippies.

Window Only, outside seating. Delicious! Those are your bullet points. Eater LA had a mini-spotlight on this spot in their top places to eat in Venice, CA. Otherwise, it's a tiny hole in the wall, in a weird eclectic area, that I would've walked past. But we drove here, specifically for this place. Anyway, They were right. The classic Fish & Chips is BIG and fantastic. Very filling. They offer spices for their fries too. Obvi I went with the jalapeño seasoning, and it was GREAT. Super helpful employee who explained all the options well. If anyone I know goes to Venice, I will recommend this spot.

Fish & chips spot alongside Venice Beach. The fish is pretty decent (not the most tender that I've had but still hits the craving for it) but the chips (or fries) though.....wowow. Super tasty with the California rosemary chippy salt (I'm really curious about the other chippy salt flavors now!). Ended up not even using any condiment dips for them. Entree is sharable for two people as like a satiating snack portion otherwise I recommend ordering double. Wished there was more seating right in front of the shop as there is only one dedicated two-seat table and a bench (the neighboring food spots provide more). Overall I recommend checking this place out if hunger strikes while exploring Venice Beach!

This was hands down the worst fish and chips I've had in Los Angeles. The manager admitted the fish were pre-bought sticks--likely from Smart & Final. The calamari was overcooked and brown, the oil tasted old, and the batter had a strange chemical flavor. Both seafood items were bland and soggy. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless you're just ordering the fries, which were surprisingly decent. Everything else? A deep-fried disappointment.

SIMPLY DELICIOUS! I wasn't sure what to expect from this place when it was suggested for a try but all I can say is yummm! We went in National French Fry Day, and who doesn't like French fries?? Well their fries are thick hand cut delicious goody goodness! Not only that, they have VEGAN options!! Like, what?!? Yes!!! Vegan fish and chips, vegan sauces...yesss! They're located on Venice boardwalk area so it's quite touristy there (which we try to avoid) but given how delicious this food was, ughh it looks like I'll have to get over my avoidance of that area. Parking is what it is near the boardwalk...difficult lol, so if you want free parking, park a few blocks away and walk. Service was great and the food took about 15 mins. We will be back!

Was in the area and wanted to try this place. The fish and chips didn't impress me. The fish was crispy and juicy but it tasted like it was fried in old oil. We got the garlic fries and those were good. It was just average. I wouldn't come back. Staff was really nice and there's a few tables and chairs out front to sit and eat. Parking is beach parking that's paid or if you can find parking around Windward circle.

Wee Chippy has some Excellent fish & chips. Staff are Friendly and all the food was super hot. You get a lot of choices with all their flavors you want on your fries as well and I like that because they were super great! Bottom line give this place a try for fish, shrimp and fries! We will be back !!

Fish was crispy. The salt and dipping sauce options were plentiful. They even had vegan and gluten free options. Sold out fast (by 3pm).

Are the Vegan Fish & Chips 100% Vegan (no animal products cooked in the same fryer/no cross contamination)?

    Hi Heather. Yes, 100% Vegan.

We went to Wee Chippy on Tuesday 12/8/2020. Got there before 12 so waited for opening. We waited until 12:30 and it didn't open. Wondering if they are having COVID issues and closed?

The place is older and could use a refresh, but it is cute and always super clean. The service is very nice. They will take good care of you. They have a nice selection of beer on tap. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their breakfast is really tasty and they make great eggs. I don't care for black pudding so I never get it. They have great hot and cold sandwiches and wonderful salads. They are famous for their fish and chips. They are some of the best. They are perfectly deep fried and the chips are great. I also get a side of mashed because it is so good. I also had a pasty, which is not on the menu, and I was super disappointed, so I won't do that again. They used to be great. I love their hot beef sandwich and often get that for lunch. There is something for everyone here. Parking is a bear, but you might find a place on the street or their is a paid lot across the street. You can walk to the Santa Monica Pier from here or to the beach. It was my first time here, and I'm so glad I discovered this place! The seafood was incredibly fresh, and we honestly enjoyed every dish we ordered. The highlight for me was definitely the oysters -- they were so good that I had to order a second round . Another standout was the steamed mussels in white wine and garlic sauce. The mussels were huge, juicy, and packed with flavor. I was also very impressed by the miso black cod. It came with mushrooms in a rich miso sauce that paired perfectly with rice. Everything tasted comforting and well-balanced. Our server was also very thoughtful and friendly. He split the clam chowder into four smaller portions for our group, which made it much easier to share. One thing to note: the seafood market opens early, but the restaurant itself opens at 11 AM. And if you end up loving the fish from your meal, you can actually buy the same fresh marinated fish directly from the market to take home. Such a cool concept!

After this first experience, this place is about a solid three stars for me. I may come back again if in Santa Monica... I am still a bit under the weather and drove here because I wanted some kind of seafood soup. They offer three different kinds of soups which I appreciated! There is NE clam chowder, Manhattan clam chowder and a fish chowder. Since I dont always see fish chowder on the menu, I ordered a small bowl. I wanted a larger bowl and a place to sit down and eat it but the place was packed for lunch and I didnt feel like grabbing a spot at their bar as I needed to get back on the road, so just went with the small (and I am glad I did - read on to see why). They have a funny system here because you only order their menu items from a cashier in the back, but then take a number if you want fresh seafood. I wanted to try their Hawaiian style poke and cashier had me go and grab a number. I grabbed a number and it wasn't busy so I was served immediately. For a 1/4 lb of Hawaiian poke, it was about $9.50. Whats also strange is that I grabbed my soup (did not pay for it in the back), and my Hawaiian poke and then paid up front. Everything came close to $20. I sat in my car, (which thank goodness, this seafood market has its own parking lot, so that was greatly appreciated), and dug into my soup. Unfortunately, the soup was pretty bland and needed a bit more salt. But, I will say that the ingredients used in the fish chowder were all very fresh, and fish wasnt overcooked, but it needed to be seasoned more. Hawaiian poke was great, excellent taste. Overall, a so so experience, I would have liked better scenery to eat my food being I was very close to the beach and wished I had a more seasoned fish chowder. I could be convinced to come back and give it a second try, but I think I might prefer to visit Malibu Seafood which isnt too far from here and has great ocean views.

Now, at first bite, for some odd reason, I thought the dish was going to be hot, but it was cold and absolutely delicious! Taking our server Mauricio's advice, I tried each item separately on my plate and then mixed it up... Yummy! New flavors had my taste buds doing a happy dance over and over again! Haha! I would absolutely 100% get this dish again! The flavors were electric once combined! Turn up the Heat | Our server Mauricio asked my spice level and I confidently said spicy! He asked if I was sure and I told him the story about me being in India, requesting a spicier version of a dish & the Chef coming out to take a look at me, because he couldn't believe I wanted spicier! Haha! Comedy Hour | I was enjoying every flavorful bite of the Fish Ceviche, when all of a sudden my body started to heat up! I was like, I can handle a bit of spice... I could hardly talk, because it was honestly that spicy! Haha! I bet it was also the sneaky little red onions, in addition to the other spices! The girl at the next table told her to rub her eye with her hair... Which oddly helped! Plantains | I can always appreciate plantains, as I love them! They arrived at our table and quite plentiful! I appreciated that the flavor was just the right amount of sweet and savory... Perfect! As conversation flowed easily between me, my friend, and the traveler! I invited him to enjoy the plantains with us, which he did! Fried Rice | My friend, ordered this dish and invited me to share it with her! OMG! He was patient, kind and so much fun to explore the menu with! He really wanted us to have the Peruvian experience, considering it was both me and my friends first time having Peruvian food... as far as I know! Seating | Both inside and outside! We sat on the outside patio! Happy Meeting | While waiting for my friend to arrive at the restaurant, a friendly worldwide traveler, who was currently in town, helped me with the menu! Though his meal included chicken, a dish he frequently orders when he's in town, he invited me to explore the veggie part of the menu and mentioned that the food was really good here! Something made me trust his recommendation and I'm glad I did! We had fun chatting with the friendly traveler! Overall | Oh my goodness! Hahaha! Between the flavorful Fish Ceviche that was too hot to handle, sweet and savory Plantains, the customer service via Mauricio, an extension of me and my friends spa day, & other friendly customers, made for a memorable evening! The restaurant was more busy than usual with soccer on, but there were several sizable tables open outside. We told the hostess we had a group of 5, and she said they couldn't seat us. We asked if we could put our names on a list and she said they don't do lists. We asked if there was an estimated timeline on a table, and she said no. So I asked if she was turning us away and she said they couldn't serve us. We walked maybe 12-15 feet down the sidewalk to clear the entrance a little confused, and tried to regroup on dinner. I then watched the same hostess seat 3 groups of 2 and a group of 6. They all got there and approached the table after us, and the restaurant does not take reservations. So I decided to walk back and ask the hostess why we weren't able to be seated. She started mumbling about the tables not being big enough. The group of 6 they sat was a group of 8 eventually and they scooted tables together for them - our group could fit at a four top. We mentioned that. She told us she had to "get special permission" from her manager to seat them, and I asked why we couldn't have been accommodated similarly. She got flustered when we asked if we could scoot tables together or just sit at a 4 top. We had driven 45 minutes to eat there, and there was plenty of space. She acted like we were asking for too much, and told us she couldn't help us the first time because we "walked away," even though we were dismissed and we were still right in front of her. She did not apologize. She was super weird and unaccommodating until a male in our group walked up to ask the same questions. Then we were seated. The restaurant was short staffed, which we did not mind. Watching the sunset is a great distraction. Plus our waitress (red hair - did not catch her name) was absolutely fantastic. There were multiple items that did not make it to our table, but the staff quickly removed them from the bill.

I recently learned that it's under new ownership, with a remodeled shop and an updated menu. As it was my first visit today, this is my perspective. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly and received helpful recommendations. The staff even brought my food and condiments to the table. I tried the London Special ($13.99), which includes two shrimp and two fish and chips - a great way to sample their offerings. When I arrived, there was only one person and one couple dining, but the place quickly filled up. Luckily, I managed to get a table. The friendly staff brought my food, along with five sauces: chili oil, hot sauce, ketchup, vinegar, and tartar sauce. They also provided packets of salt, fitting for the restaurant's name. The food was served piping hot, so be careful! It's fried in a tempura-style batter, which is quite heavy. I found the shrimp to have a small meat-to-batter ratio, but the fish was the star. I recommend drenching your fries in vinegar and dipping the fish in a combination of hot sauce and tartar sauce - it's delicious!

The experience started strong with great customer service; the staff was fast, friendly, and made me feel very welcome as they prepped my take-out order. The atmosphere is a standard, low-end takeout spot reminiscent of a Chinese fast-food joint--not somewhere you'd want to linger, but they offer ample parking and serve the food hot. I ordered the #6 regular combination with three pieces of fish, two shrimp, and chips, which was a generous portion that could easily cover two meals. However, the food itself was unfortunately "mid." While the pieces were large and the crinkle-cut fries were good, the fish and shrimp lacked any real seasoning or distinct flavor--it essentially tasted like "anything fried." It's a great spot for a fast, filling meal, but it didn't quite capture that nostalgic flavor I was chasing.

We had a great experience and great food at N17 The Lane! I see some recent complaints regarding…read moreservice during the World Cup. It's clear they've put intentional effort into improving this week, as service was a highlight for us. Our waiter, Sunny, was so polite, quick, and communicative. He had a lot of tables to cover, as it was a packed and chaotic room during the Mexico vs. Ecuador game last night. The N17 burger and fries (both the regular shoe string fries and sweet potato fries) were fantastic! Both were cooked just right, very flavorful, and the fries were nice and crispy. The atmosphere and design of the restaurant in front isn't your typical "sports bar" - it feels more like a cute, sunny brunch restaurant with high-quality screens for sports viewing - but the clientele feels just like any other sports bar would :) It was very lively and fun to watch with others last night. For the World Cup, they've opened up their event space in the back which is not set up like a typical restaurant - but it was great for viewing! The screens are HUGE and very high-quality.

Listen, I understand being busy is one thing but blatantly ignoring paying customers that have been sitting and waiting to be served for 20-30 minutes after only ordering two drinks is strange to me. And then to come back and ask if we wanted to remove the items we already ordered without us having to bring it up just lets me know that you remembered all this time but chose not to serve us until someone had to go ask to be served AGAIN. Even other venues that are 5x bigger than this one have better customer service/attentiveness. We also ordered the bottomless mimosas and only got through 2 bottles because it took them 20 minutes to bring out the first one and another 15 to bring out the second one when it was asked for. And on top of that, they act like they're doing YOU a favor by bringing out the food & drinks that YOU paid for. I have never written a negative review before but this experience was awful; just a waste of money &, what should have been, a good time.
