Dropped in for lunch - fresh roasted chicken sandwich, w avocado and a jalapeño cream sauce. Very good. Tried the Mac & cheese. Very modern & electic hip spot in Marfa. Friendly fast service. Only drawback was pesty flies in the desert town cafe. They have indoor & outdoor seating. read more

The setting is charming but waitstaff is inattentive. We waited so long for attention we just ordered the food to go. It took almost 40 minutes just to get that. My roasted organic chicken was rubbery and inedible. $17 burger was over cooked, fries were greasy. read more

Really awesome spot to have a great brunch/lunch! The food is excellent and very modern, with a good mix of Mexican/Texan style to it. They have a variety of options for drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The service is excellent, they are very attentive to the guests. Totally recommend this stop if you are in the area! read more

The Water Stop - Chicken Avocado Grain Bowl - American Near Me - Marfa, Texas

Best spot for lunch in Marfa! I don't know if i got the best dish or what but it was stellar!! Chicken grain bowl prepared fresh! Great atmosphere. Highly recommend. Great service read more

Very disappointing experience. I was looking forward to trying this place out after my host's recommendation and seeing the good reviews. Maybe locals get a different experience? Started out with service very slow. Took no less than 15 minutes to get a can of beer, after waiting at least the same just to have someone come take my order. I was there early before dinner rush and it was not busy at all. Then the food was just underwhelming, especially for the price. Ordered the green chile cheeseburger. The bun was great, toasted and buttered. That's good, because it was 80% of the burger. The patty was like the frozen ones you can get at a grocery store. The slice of American cheese wasn't even melted, just slapped on there after cooking, I guess? I was originally planning to get dessert, but after all that, decided against it. There are better places in Marfa to get that from. read more

I hate leaving a review without eating the food but this place just turned me off straight off the jump. As soon as I walked in (Jan 3rd @ about 7pm) the girl at the register was not wearing a mask properly. She told us where to find a menu, not quite as easy as I'd hoped for. Her instructions were outside the door but we the door we came in did not have one nor did the other door we tried. The third door held the key. We found a table, sadly dirty, sat down and waited for someone to come. The same girl came still not wearing her mask, at least she apologized for not wearing it...... The menus were dirty as well. We waited about five minutes for a waitress, and then decided to leave. It seemed there was only one waitress, she was chatting with the same table that we saw her at when we walked in. Sad. Hope the manager can make some changes. Place seems like a nice place to go. Wish I could have tried the food. read more

Would have loved to have had drinks and a meal here but received zero service. Our server brought us water upon arrival and proceeded to bumble around empty-handed without ever coming back to take our order. We even asked another server if we could order from her and she said she would send ours over. We waited another 15 minutes or so and after sitting patiently at our table for well over 30 minutes with only water we got up to head to another restaurant and while standing at our table the server then IMMEDIATELY came over to clear the glasses without saying a word : ( And no, not a Covid thing as everyone else was being served. Like it's name sake you'll be sure to get some water, but maybe nothing else - not even a smile or eye contact? Disappointing... read more

If you find yourself in Marfa on a Monday then you will definitely find yourself at this review. Yes, this really is the only place open for dinner but don't fret a lovely meal is in store. After escaping the terrible food of Santa Fe (because everything is closed on Sundays there) our taste buds were tingled by the delectable pasta, chicken, and salad. While it might be your only option, it really is a great one and I might go as far to say you should try it on a Wednesday (when it seems like this town comes back to life). P.S. To the couple driving the Lexus who got their menus, read them, and then promptly left without ordering: big mistake, huge (mostly because they definitely had Dairy Queen for dinner) read more

Food was decent if you're lucky enough for them to have what you want in stock. Everything was super over priced bus I assume it is difficult get delivery's of certain items all the way out to Marfa. Wait staff wasn't bad other than meat being dropped onto my friend and absolutely no mention of "I'm so sorry" or "my bad!" Not a lot of options in Marfa that allow dine in seating but they let us do so I guess bc of the cold. read more

Today was my first experience here and while the service was kinda slow the food was excellent! I have the fried spicy chicken sandwich with the jalapeño Mac and cheese! The food was delicious. The meat on the sandwich tasted good and the bun on the sandwich was so so tasty. Great job! I'll come back next time I'm in town. read more

Worst dining experience ever! One hour and forty minutes to have two salads (which came with no dressing), a shared bowl of pasta, an appetizer (which came after the main course was served) and one drink each! Service never checked in on us to ask if we would like another drink, or to apologize for the wait, or any update whatsoever! Then when the food finally arrived, the server told us "We're the only restaurant open on Mondays." Which was total b.s. because we had just come from another restaurant where we had some drinks and they were serving food! Also overpriced, too dark, uncomfortable seating, and only one restroom which was occupied all the time! Don't go to this hole! read more

We waited an hour for our food, then we asked when it would be ready, and they hadn't even started our order yet! Terrible service. We will never be back. I would have given this place zero stars if that was an option. read more

The Water Stop is a beautiful spot in Marfa. The outdoor seating in spacious and a lovely setting for dinner. That being said, the service was lackluster and the food was just okay. We had to request for someone to take our order as we sat there being ignored in a place that was only 25% full. I had the steak frites and the fries were under cooked and a little cold. The steak was over cooked and tough. My husband's burger was good and cooked well. The whole experience was just meh. read more

Everything you want in a restaurant... fun atmosphere, innovative comfort food and great service. Ten stars!

I came here for dinner everyday while I was in Marfa. It is was 1 of 2 restaurants in Marfa with outside seating. The food was delicious. I had Steak Frites, Champagne Pasta and Green Chili Burger. No complaints about any of it. For Some Very Strange Reason The food took over an hour each night. The waitress warn you so that is not the problem. I'm just confused as to why the kitchen is so slow. The menu isn't that big. The bar is slightly slow as well. The waitstaff seemed really overwhelmed. Come here, eat, drink, and chill. Just be prepared for slow service but good service. read more

We ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and the burger. Half of the fries were so burnt they looked like petrified charcoal sticks. The chicken sandwich was not spicy at all. It lacked seasoning and it was also burnt on the edges. The young guy that took our order was nice but the Hispanic lady with glasses was rude. When she brought the order out, and was asking who the different plates belonged to, she asked who did the burger belonged to and my husband said he had ordered a green chili burger. Her response to him was "same thing, it's a burger". That is not how you speak to a customer...please treat your customers with respect and courtesy. Only giving it 2 stars because our waiter that took the order was nice. read more

Amazing food, worth the wait, but not if you're on a time crunch. We planned a road trip to Big Bend/Marfa for the new year and we're excited to try the goody spots of town. The Water Stop definitely advertises itself as having "good food" and we wanted to test that. And so did everyone else who was in town that weekend, it seemed. We had a scheduled tour and thought that an hour was enough time to sit and eat, but not here on this particular weekend, unfortunately. Lucky for us, we just asked for our meal to be made to-go and we were on our way in town for our tour. We ate our meal in our AirBnB after and we're blown away, only wishing we could have seconds! Would definitely eat here, and plan for the food to take ~45 minutes to come out next time. Four stars because of the wait, but the food is definitely 6/5. read more

Really terrible service. They were closed for a private event until 6:30, so we came back and they sat about 6-8 tables at the same time. None of the waitresses seemed to know which tables were theirs. They took about 20 minutes to come get our order. It was cold rainy about 45 degrees on this particular night. Didn't seem to have enough propane tanks for all their warmers. Got rained on - asked to move our table 2 feet to the right so we could be under a cover. Response was "everybody's getting rained on" - not true. We paid for our (mediocre) appetizer and left. Not impressed. read more

It is a local bar which caters only the local folks. If you are visiting then expect to wait for Atleast an hour before anybody takes your order. I don't recommend this place to anybody! One of the best burger I have ever had! The staff was very welcoming. Would recommend this restaurant.

Only reason this isn't a 1-star review is because the prosciutto on the charcuterie was good. Service was mediocre. Server seemed bothered that we actually needed silverware and napkins to eat. Only like 2 things on the menu were available. Chicken from wedge salad was rubber. Steak frites were a joke. Our cocktails were sadder than the food. I guess if your standards are low enough this could be a "cool" place to eat. Because Instagram. read more

I loved this place. Very causal & cool vibe and they played good music. The food was so good too. I've had a lot of Caesar salads in my life, but this was probably one of my all time favs. Same with the charcuterie board. Didn't seem like the type of place to order one of those but it was so good. Then to top it off the steak frites & fries were amazing as well. Went back 2 nights in a row bc I liked it so much! read more

Not sure how good or bad the food might be. We went inside and asked if the outside was open, because nobody was outside, they replied yes someone will be out. Well we waited outside for about 10min and decided to leave. The menu looked good, but not worth trying again. read more

Great food, insanely slow service. Everyone was so nice but we were forgotten multiple times. The atmosphere was so/so - no music outside but the inside is quirky and cute and had some music playing. Burger 10/10, spicy chicken sandwich 9/10, the margaritas 7/10 and I only say that bc I wasn't expecting it to taste like cucumber juice but it was still tasty. I really would like to give more stars but our waitress didn't come around after we got our food and we waited 30 minutes for the bill. read more

Ordered the French dip. Let me sum it up for you. French bread that was so hard and and sharp I literally had to take off the top of the top piece. This crest was so hard I was unable to break it in two with my fingers. (Inside soft, obviously fresh). A baguette should have a thin, crisp crust. This was absurd. Dull, dry beef. A few (good) grilled onions. The brie was the flavorless "cream" cheese one gets at any US mainstream supermarket. The aioli was pretty good. WHY was this sandwich $17? Oh yeah, Marfa read more

As the name suggests, the Water Stop was a bit of an oasis in the desert for us this week. The only spot open for lunch (other than HSG) on Monday, it was a great find and a delicious meal. All fresh ingredients. Looking back into their kitchen was like peaking into a garden. Splurge and go for a biscuit or whatever dessert they have that day- you won't be disappointed. Good tunes, yummy beverage options and simple, locally sourced decor topped it all off. Plus it's "just outside of town" (less than a mile- we walked) so we found The Rock Shop, DIRT, and a little boutique out that way too. The only reason for four stars was that I didn't see any vegetarian options other than just eating sides. I decided if I were to eat chicken every once and a while, this was a place to do it, and it did not disappoint. read more
