Though it may be polluted by my camping palate, This water stop on the outskirts of Marfa provided perhaps the best fried chicken sandwich I have ever had. The quaint interior and exterior leaves nothing to be desired. The menu may be limited but the flavors are not. read more

The Water Stop - American Near Me - Marfa, Texas

This was one of the few places open in Marfa as we passed through. I wasn't too sure about stopping with our kids because the menu online was pretty limited but we stopped here anyway and I'm glad we did. The Desert Flower drink was delicious! I had the Greek Salad and my husband had the Steak Frites and both were fantastic! The kids had the pasta and a cheeseburger and both were happy! The service was great and friendly. The outdoor seating was great- a nice breeze blowing through the patio. Highly recommend! read more

Wow! What a find. Was recommended by the front desk agent of our hotel. The green chilies burger was AMAZING! Wow! The home cut fries to die for. Don't forget the spicy Mayo! 80's music was cranking. Was a great experience! read more

The outside eating area is very nice and worked for our dog. Heaters helped with the chill. Mescal Paloma was very good but our entrees were just ok. Steak was over cooked and tough, rigatoni was uninspiring even with chicken added. Service was ok, not outstanding. I realize it's off season but $100 with tip for 2 is too much for mediocre food. read more

Open around six months, this is a cool place to check out in Marfa! We stopped in for lunch on a hot Saturday afternoon around 2 PM on a festive holiday weekend. We had our choice of tables inside or outside on the covered patio. Counter service was friendly and located just in front of the open kitchen where the chef was working away on someone's meal. Questions answered and recommendations received - order placed! Our table number was a colorful Loteria ticket! Just a short wait before delicious food was brought to our table on beautiful clay-colored Mexican pottery dishes. Loved that special touch. Our eclectic group had the fried chicken torta, jalapeno mac and cheese, shrimp ceviche tostadas, chicken and waffles, Nicoise salad, and a cheeseburger. Wow! Everything was so good that soon we were all trading bites and passing around plates to share. Fresh ingredients, very flavorful, and simply presented. Portions were generous; very shareable. We were all happy with each dish and sufficiently stuffed by the end of the meal. A variety of fresh baked goods is available daily, but usually sell out fairly early in the day. The only thing available when we arrived was a GIANT cookie, so we snagged it - YUM! Big coolers hold self serve canned/bottled soft drinks and beer. GO to the white adobe building with the GOOD FOOD sign out front - you won't be disappointed! read more

We stopped by Marfa for lunch on our way to Terlingua just after lunch. I ordered a burger that was well made with a side of fries. All servers were wearing masks and seating was all outside. Overall we were very satisfied with our lunch and appreciative that they were open during COVID. I am docking a star, since I left my card at the table and wasn't able to reach them at the number listed above read more

Great laid back vibe. Highly recommend the Water Stop Margarita. It has cucumber added- don't judge without tasting- it's incredibly refreshing. My husband & I split the 1/2 pound green chili burger and the Burrata appetizer. We were full, but not miserable. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. read more

Foodies. W.S. is one of those gems that becomes a destination just because it's always delish and whelp, you're in town! Breakfast, lunch, dinner -it makes no difference as it's always delectable, the service is good, the environment friendly. My faves are the Migas. They serve beautiful plates of food. Check out my pictures! Today I had a grilled chicken sandwich, substituting the fried. Purple onion relish, home made pickles served on a bun that I'd buy a 6 pack of... Guinness beers are poured properly, the Bloody Mary's are amazing. I'm a fan! You will be too. It's right off the highway so look for it and park it buddy! read more

This place was absolutely slammed when we arrived on the first Sunday of Tx Spring Break after a year of +/- quarantine. Even so, we were able to quickly grab a seat. Our friendly server warned us that it would be an hour for food. No problem. We ordered drinks, the combination board, a pasta dish, and a French dip sandwich. They weren't lying about the delay but we were well attended, enjoyed our board with spicy salami, prosciutto, several cheeses, nuts, honey, lovely bread, and grainy mustard. The pasta was wide egg noodles with kale, squash, and a lightly creamy parm type sauce. It was great. Would've benefited from more butternut squash, but with the crowd, there may not have been any left in the kitchen! French dip was adequate if uninspired. Fries were quite good. I would come here again. I'd probably rate the food 3.5 stars but the place deserves extra for its amazing play list. read more

Edit: server cussed me out for asking to put in a drink order after being ignored. Continued to do so while I spoke to manager. hilariously bad customer the server walked up and just asked what do you want. Oh, ok no drink order strait to food. Asked about what dressings were available for a salad and was pretty rudely told that's the way it comes. Ok that's alright, I said please come back to me. He took the next order at the table then walked off.... It's been like 10 minutes since. Still don't have a drink order put in either. Do not recommend. At all read more

If you're looking for something tasty and reliable in Marfa, this is your place.

It was the only place open on a Monday night. So glad we stopped...very pricey! THE BEST FRENCH FRIES EVER! Interesting, different dishes. I had French Dip with brie on a baguette. Yum! Everyone loved the food. Service was excellent. I would give it 5 stars but their margarita was disgusting. I could not drink it. Most in our party choked it down. Some cucumber, guava thing. Other drinks weren't any better. Different isn't always better! read more

Super cute restaurant and bar. We stopped by for drinks and an appetizer, but stayed for the ambiance. The menu is a bit limited, but what we had was great. I highly recommend the Marfa Lights drink made with Gin. It was fantastic! read more

I am going to be honest, this is a biased review... The Water Stop was one of the few restaurants available in Marfa, Covid-19 oblige. I stopped on my way back from Prada. Either the place is very popular, or because of the lack of other choices, it felt like everybody in Marfa had decided to eat here... You had the two options which are now staple in our lives: -take away, sit outside. Take away line was long, but joyful. People observing the rules, but remaining social. As I waiting for my order, I could observe the entire organization. These guys were busy, and trying to make everything they could to alleviate the wait. Waiters and waitresses were flying around the tables, taking orders, bringing food, clearing, cleaning relentlessly. A continuous flow of customers that never seemed to slow down. I could tell, because I spent a good 40 minutes waiting for my take away. But I did not mind at all. I met the wife of the owner, and while she was cleaning the table close to me, we chatted. See, the music playing was French; Serge Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy... I found the choice very improbable in a restaurant lost in the middle of nowhere Texas. Sooo, how's that even possible? this is when I asked the kind lady: -who is French here? 'cause, nobody in their right state of mind would play French 70's music in good 'ol Texas! turned out, the owner was her husband, and originate of Fontainebleau. Fontainebleau is a nice town south of Paris, with a nice castle and plenty of history... I just loved it... how improbable! This is why Texas is such a great state! I loved the food, probably even more after I knew the story of the Water Stop, and met that Texas lady. read more

After a weekend of camping in Big Bend, this was a great place to bring us back to real food. The staff seemed to be spread thin, but they were super nice and helpful to us. The veggie burger was really good, a little better than the pasta rosa. The burrata with artichokes was even better to start off the meal. Nice outdoor seating as well. read more

So glad we found this spot. Great place for relaxing and enjoying a meal. Hubby and I sat outside on the patio and shared a burger. The burger was cooked just right for us. This spot granted me one of the best meals I've had in a long while! From the decor to the service to the food, i cannot recommend this place enough. I had the Mystery Lights cocktail, Green Kale Salad, modest portion of Steak Frites and the Berry Crumble. Pair all of that with some Guinness on draft and we have reached a certain zenith of comfort dining out in West Texas. Thanks for everything, y'all! read more

Cute little spot for dinner in Marfa! It's not huge, but they have both indoor and outdoor seating and a few bar spots. They have cocktails, wine and beer and a pretty diverse menu. They have chicken, beef, salads, fries, etc. The staff was friendly and we had decent service despite them being understaffed. We loved the ambiance inside the restaurant. Loved all of the decor. read more

Arrived here at the water stop at 6:25, and we were advised that there was a 45-1 hr wait, which we agreed to. After about an hour and a half (of waiting in the main lobby) we asked staff for an update, where they told us that they "called us several times"( we checked our call log and did not see a single call) , and they gave up our table. So we waited another 20-30 minutes. We were finally seated and everyone had their orders ready, and we ordered right away. Now it's been over another hour and no food, empty drinks. Our server hasn't checked on us a single time or given us ANY update on the wait. read more

We were there on a Tuesday night. The French Dip was served on a hamburger bun. The roast beef was dry and tough. The Au Ju was from a packet mix I'm sure. The first time (2020) I visited this spot was great food was tasty, but I'm deeply disappointed and probably opt out ever going back. We ordered 2 chicken Cesar salads. The salads lacked chicken, I paid $6 extra for chicken and with the two salads combined I don't even think we had 2 oz of chicken. read more

Marfa...eclectic, small, arty, touristy. So we are touristy types today, and as we have found in visiting other small places in the region, lots of places have limited hours. We saw we had an hour before closing, so we jumped in. We ordered rotisserie chicken, fried chicken torta, salad nicoise and biscuits and gravy with fried eggs. This must be fly season, as there were lots of them, whether inside or out here. The heat inside was too much (from the open kitchen with wood fired rotisserie) and the flies were relentless, so we moved outside when a table opened up. The occasional gust of wind helped, but since every table seemed to have its very own fly swatter outside, flies were still everywhere. Seriously, go buy some fly strips.... The biscuits, gravy and eggs were tasty, the torta was very good, the salad was massive, the chicken was just ok. But honestly, good food will never shine through a relentless barrage of dive bombing flies, both inside and out. Nor will inside seating that is hotter than outside keep people coming back. Bottom line, suggest you choose some where else to eat while in Marfa. read more

We love The Water Stop, and only wish they would put their avocado toast back on the menu! Don't give this establishment your business! My husband and I ate there on Sunday May 9th. We sat at the outside patio and I had my service dog with me. A woman who quickly informed us that she was local was allowing her dog to run unleashed through the patio area. I asked her nicely three times to please keep her dog away from our table. She ignored that, and laughed when my dog got upset that her dog was literally in his face. Luckily she left and we could enjoy our meal for about five minutes Until she comes walking back in, smirking as she lets her dog (Banjo) go running under our table and laughing when my dog is uncomfortable. This time I was more upset, and told her to leash her dog. She cursed me out and then laughed as I started shaking. I have epilepsy and this situation brought on a seizure, my dog was stopped from doing his tasks by this unleashed, untrained dog. She hurled insults, one being that I was a retard, strangers at other tables stepped in to help. With one couple sitting with me so my husband could get the car closer. We alerted management who did nothing, the lady then smugly told us that she was friends with management and could do what she wanted. Once I was safely in the car, my husband walked back in to try to talk to the manager, two other tables voiced their concerns as well. We were ignored by the manager, and basically told our concerns didn't matter. So please avoid this establishment, a lot of great restaurants in Marfa with wonderful People this place just isn't that. We reported them to the American with disabilities organization, and hope that management can learn something from this awful experience. Don't give this place your business, they are intolerant, rude and side with a belligerent local or a tourist having a medical emergency. Worst experience at a restaurant ever!!! read more

Fantastic hamburger. Fantastic Pina colada. Spent time here on the Fourth of July 2023. Glad we made the stop. Exceptional!

I am dead. The food was so gooood!!! My date said the chicken sandwich was the best that he had ever had in his life, the coleslaw and pickles put it over the top. I had the biscuits and gravy , suggested because the biscuits had just come out of the oven..... oh my god. Literally without exaggeration... this was the best biscuits and gravy in my life. I thought there was no way I would finish the plate... I was wrong. I had eaten every single bit of the biscuit. I also appreciated their little hot sauce collection. And the locals put this place over the top. Everyone that came in , appeared to know each other , my personal favorite is an older gentleman wearing what appeared to be a captains nautical coat with hair that rivals Einstein. read more

Cute spot . Went three times in a week. I'd rate higher but the fries are awful and they messed up my order every.single.time. Dark brown, dried out potatoes , weird fries. Squash side was very underdone. They didn't include the tahini sauce i asked for. Etc. Green chili Burger and roasted chicken are good. The tahini sauce with the chicken used to be better, it's reallly thick and bitter now. The steak frites are good but the fries are awful. read more

Good news, bad news. We'll start with the good. The place is very cute and the patio is lovely. The marg is one of the best margs I've ever had. SO fresh and cucumbery while still tasting like a margarita with that delicious spicy rim. 5 stars for the marg. Now for the bad... we sat waiting for service for about 15 minutes before anyone came to take even a drink order. It took another 10 mins for the drinks to come. When our food finally came, one of the orders was wrong and we had to send it back. When they remade it, it was still completely unlike what was on the menu- we ordered breakfast tacos and we got a burrito. The waitress was sweet, but it seems like there's a management issue. Go for the marg and only the marg. read more
