I guess this is cool place to hang out if you are younger or went to undergrad in Columbia so it's nostalgic as It apparently has never changed. However at my age the music is a bit too loud. Pizza was amaze but our server was on one. She was a complete bitch to our whole table. My friend ordered a pitcher and never received it, then the waitress proceeded to ask our whole table "Whoes covering the pitcher" when she never even gave it to us. She had an attitude for no reason. She would come by our table and just throw the ranch on the table and it would slide across and she would just walk away not even acknowledging us. The table next to us had the same watriess and said the same about her. I will only be coming back if I have a different server. If u care it's the bitch in the hat. We were in town for the USC football game. This place was recommended by a few locals. I called in a pickup order, over $130. When we got back to our hotel we had no dressing for the salads and no dipping sauce for the wings. It's the attention to detail that matters. read more

I had visited their other location on Devine and wow I'm glad I got the full experience here! This place is definitely a better location to visit and atmosphere. Parking is always a headache in five points but not to find. While I will say having to pay under 10$ for a pizza and drink for dinner is great I would have liked my drink to be a bit better! Maybe salt on the rim at least for my margarita in a plastic cup is all. But I will say Halloween weekend and being short staff maybe had something to do with it? We went to Village Idiot on a football game day about 4 hours before kickoff and it was not nearly as busy as I expected. The service was fast and our server was very attentive. We took our 2 kids and there are no high chairs (to be expected with this type of establishment). The booths are roomy and we had no problem with our toddler sitting through the meal. For appetizers we ordered mozzarella sticks and garlic knots, both were phenomenal. I ordered the Rucker and my husband ordered the bbq chicken pizza. They were both exceptional. Our kids each had a slice of cheese pizza and the slices were giant. The food was hot and fresh. Items did come out one at a time with the kids food last but it was all within a few minutes so no big deal! Overall, a great trip to Village Idiot. Yes, please! Pizza is always good and apps are, too. I don't highly recommend mixed drinks from the bar, though. It's a college bar, and the drinks I've had are normally really watered down with mixers, but that's kind of normal in Five Points on a busy college drinking night. Last night, a friend called in an order and I went to pick it up. They said they didn't have the order and even though it was really close to closing time, the kitchen made my order quickly and they apologized. I genuinely appreciated them doing that for me, because they could have easily said "we don't have the order so we didn't charge you for it, kitchen is closing, sorry." The servers here are really friendly, bouncy, and accomodating for larger parties. I've literally never had a negative expierence with staff at this location! I ordered the $10 three topping pizza special on thursdays and I got a three cheese pizza...so yummy! It comes with a thin crust and it was delightful! They have plenty of TVs to keep the biggest sports fans satisfied. The menu offers more than just pizza. They have salads, sandwiches, and wings. This Dad enjoyed the creativity of the beer mixology...That's right the pub has a selection of beers that they mix which they call their "layered beers". I had the Pennsylvania Tan which is half of a Guinness and the other half a Yuengling. It was a great combination! Went here with 3 friends. Waited behind another group of 4 and a group of 2 to be seated. The group of 4 was seated after about 15 minutes. Others arrived behind us, including another group of 4. A table with 8 stools opened up; they refused to seat us unless we had enough to fill the table. Out of the 12+ people waiting, no one had a group larger than 4. After 45 minutes of waiting and watching the empty table, a 4 top opened. Two of our group were ordering drinks at the bar as we waited. The worker seating people came over and asked how many we had again. We told him 4 and when asked where our other two members were we pointed 10 ft away to them getting their drinks. Without a word, he asked the group of 4 that arrived almost 20 minutes after we did how large their group was and proceeded to give them the table instead of us. We then asked him if we could sit at the 8 top that was still open. He said no, that we had to have a larger party. A group of 4 boys walked in, looked at everyone waiting, and walked straight to the open 8 top. They were served drinks and food rather quickly. We were appalled. We told the same guy who sat the other group before us. Despite having told us not to sit there with a group of 4, he said it's "first come first serve". Another 8 top opened and we went to sit. The workers came over and told us we couldn't without a larger group, despite having allowed a group of 4 to cut the entire line and take an open 8 top. No one questioned them. They were promptly served. While waiting, we ordered some food from the takeout window. Having been standing waiting and watching an open table for an hour, we combined with a group of 4 behind us and all agreed to sit at the same table. The guy seating people told us we could. We had 8 people filling the 8 top. We were then told by the waitress that we could not sit there unless we knew each other. We said we did, wanting to finally eat, and she proceeded to quiz us about one another. She told us we could not sit together, despite having all agree to given the ridiculous circumstances. We said we had ordered some food from the takeout and just wanted to sit there for a few minutes until it was ready. She said we could not sit in her section, but moved the four of us to a table in another waitresses section. Once there, she completely changed her attitude and said we could stay and eat our food, as well as that she would make sure the new waitress checked in on us. She may have been ok doing this to her coworker, but we left 5 minutes later when our takeout was ready. Even after waiting over an hour despite there being multiple open tables--and it being late enough that no big groups were coming in to fill them--and being treated both rudely and unfairly, the food cost us over 30 dollars for 2 of us and wasn't even good. Complete waste of time and money. I never write reviews, but have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. read more

So my friend has lived in Columbia for about two and a half years and still doesn't know much about this city. He really is no help when it comes to finding a good place to eat EXCEPT when it comes to The Village Idiot which he heartily recommended as a place for good pizza. You have to figure that if he knows nothing else but this place the pizza's got to be pretty good. Unfortunately, he didn't know much else about it but a quick smart phone search later and I was on the phone with the 5 points location and went with a large. Since, he only had the slice there he didn't know what was really good so on the suggestion of the order take went with the village special: pepperoni, sausage, peppers, mushrooms, olives and onions. I wouldn't say it was exactly New York style but it was solid pizza. Definitely better than your average chain store. We got it for pick up so it's not like I got to experience the rest of the place but the pizza was solid, the phone service was pretty helpful and I would come back again, probably for a slice. read more

Me and three friends were served by Kaelyn or Kaitlin (not sure spelling) and we were there for two hours and in those two hours we had two pints each and three shots so per hour one pint and 1.5 shots. Then we were cutoff?!? When we closed our tabs after trying to order another shot after two hours have passed she said to us in a degrading tone "make good choices." One of the girls in our party said she interviewed at another local restaurant and was denied because she was lazy, leaving us to believe she just did not "feel" like getting us another round. This was during music bingo where as we were leaving, after feeling judged and not welcome, the DJ was going to buy us a shot because we were into the game. But now, after three years of coming (which tonight we went from the village in Granby to five points just to play bingo) we may not come back. She is lazy and costing the business money.
