    Now called The Main Course.

It's recently changed names to The Main Course. Excellent dinner Saturday night 2/22/20 with 2 of our freiends. Great Caesar side salads. I and my buddy got the pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and gravy. We were blown away how tender and flavorful both our dishes were. Wife got the Salmon with pesto, and she reports it was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Buddy's wife got the chicken and she said it was very good. Finished our meal at 8pm, right when the band Elliot and the Untouchables started to play. Awesome band. They really enjoyed themselves and put on the best performance we have ever seen them do. Looking forward to coming back!

My daughter chose this establishment for me to take her mom on Mother's Day. First off, really enjoyed the atmosphere also, arrived a little early and had to sit at the bar until we could get seated at our reserved table. The bartender was great and accommodating... recommended a great bottle of wine. The buffalo wings were tasty however not of fan of jumbo (turkey sized) wings nevertheless all was good. The hostess was friendly and I was impressed on how she handled the reservations and walk-in crowd... The show was absolutely amazing! The violin and saxophone players had the audience lit! It was just celebrating mothers and enjoying the crowd, no mother could expect more. Recommend ordering food when seated because the popular dishes may not be available later. Main Street Columbia SC is nice and have an assortment of establishments (must visit again). My wife enjoyed her Mother's Day!

Overall, I would say the venue was a good time! They definitely do food well. Even though Service can be a little hit and miss and have experience this with main course as well. It just seems like the servers are all over the place but; they are all really nice. Also as beautiful as the establishment is, I feel like the servers look out of place they don't match the atmosphere. Honestly, they look like a bunch of college students wearing whatever appeases them. But let's get back to the food. The fried green beans were absolutely amazing! The firecracker shrimp wrap was very flavorful and very tasty but very very very spicy. The fried rice was absolutely flavorful and delicious may be a tad bit too salty. I truly enjoyed my cocktail. However, there aren't any prices on the seasonal menu so I'm thinking my drink was around $20 which is a bit steep I think! But overall it is a good time! The entertainment kept the crowd engaged and played great music!

The Venue is owned by the Middleton family that owns just about everyother restaurant on Main Street and while I commend them for all they have done for the city of Columbia, I would implore them to invest in good Chefs and quality ingredients. The Venue is a little over the top decor wise and I such more appealing to the eye in the evening hours. Drink are pretty overpriced and the service is mediocre. We had the charcuterie plate for $18.00 and while the condiments when tolerable, everything requiring refrigeration; like the meats and the pimento cheese had an "old refridgerator" taste like something that was frozen too long. Even the the prosciutto was a little dull and grayish in color. It was old. The meatballs with sauce were pretty good but the ratio/price quality was not very good. Three smal meatballs for $18.00 and not even a slice of garlic bread to go with it. This place could be a lot better but until that extra investment in quality is there...it will remain mediocre, which is a shame for such an excellent location.

Music was ok. Still waiting for my food. It's been two hours but I have hope that one day my food will come. They brought 2 of our 5 meals that was supposed to go to another table. Then disappeared for the last hour. The manager came by once but hasn't checked back. I ordered a strawberry basil drink and then ordered a blueberry lavender but they combined the two for who knows what reason. Way too sweet to drink. Can't really comment on the food because I'm still waiting two hours to try it.

If my steak was better I would give 5 stars. My $30 steak had a lot of gristel in it. Was cooked medium rare when I asked for medium. All the food we ordered was very good/flavorful. The steak was tasty too but as I mentioned it had too much gristel. My wife had a drink- the grapefruit mule that was horrible(bitter) but they remade it and it was very good. The atmosphere of the place was fun as this is a piano restaurant where live music (pop/country/some rap) is played at request. The two piano players literally played the three hours straight that I was there. Don't go there to have a conversation with table mates unless you like yelling over the music. Our server (Erica) was new but did a great job - I left a 25% tip. All of the staff were professional and attentive to requests. I would definitely go back.

The menu and the atmosphere is deceiving.

Finding a great lunch spot near the courthouse is becoming more and more difficult. Once seated I waited 15 minutes for the server who apologized for the wait. While waiting I noticed a few tables looking puzzled and trying to get the other server in the area. Once my server came over she offered to get me a sample of the veggie chili, after receiving the sample, 15 minutes later the server in training came to take my order. 10 minutes later, salad and cold wing fries, never received my water...and what do you know, my lunch hour is over! The "new GM" came and offers no apologies, just-"I'm working on service. I left-vowing never to return!

Lovely space. Well appointed. Great lighting. Friendly staff. Went for the $14 breakfast brunch over Easter weekend. Max, our server, was lots of fun and took great care of us. Large menus. FYI-- drinks not included but it is nice that they have that option. The macaroons and other pastries from the bake shop are just amazing and were my favorite part of the meal, bar none! Food was freshly cooked and warm. Chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, bacon cooked in all variety of different lengths(charred to just passing regulations for not raw), waffle bar, omelet station. No holds barred they really bring out all the stops here and it's just wonderful. Highly recommend if you are staying downtown or just want a pop up brunch spot.

The food was pretty good overall, but my chicken salad sandwich was extremely disappointing. The croissant was very dry, and the shredded chicken combined with the consistency of the dressing was not at all what I expected. After only a couple bites, I left the entire sandwich untouched. What was even more disappointing was that when our waitress brought the bill, she clearly noticed I hadn't eaten the sandwich and chose not to ask about it. At this price point for lunch, I would have expected the situation to be handled a little differently. We sat in the covered outdoor area, which was nice, but there's also an uncovered outdoor section with older picnic tables that don't really match the vibe of a more upscale lunch spot. If you plan to sit outside, I'd recommend making your seating preference clear when booking.

Customer service was excellent. They were friendly and provided consistently great service. The smash burger was on point. The smash burger had a wonderful cheese melt, it was flavorful, the haystack onions were delicious, and the brioche pulled it all together. The other toppings were fresh. I ordered the truffle fries to go along with the burger. Fries only come with a few of their dishes. I wish the portion size of fries was a little more than what you get for the price; nevertheless, they were cooked well and were very good fries. Their ranch was tasty also. The food was served hot. The restaurant was a bit busy when I arrived, and I was asked if sitting at the bar was okay, which I didn't mind at all. As soon as I sat down, the bartender greeted me and took my order right away. excellent service from the start. He was very outgoing and friendly. When the seat next to me opened up, he immediately cleaned the area, which was great to see, especially during a busy time. The place overall felt very clean and well maintained. I ordered the Smokehouse Burger with fries. While waiting, the bartender consistently checked on me and kept my drink refilled, which I really appreciated. He even came back to let me know that the food was taking a little longer than usual since they weren't expecting it to be that busy. I completely understood and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere while waiting. The food arrived in about 24 minutes and looked fantastic. The burger was cooked exactly how I asked which was well done and tasted great. I upgraded my fries to the bleu pimiento fries, and they were absolutely delicious. Everything was spot on. After lunch, I ordered a Cookies & Cream dirt shake, and it was amazing. The presentation was fun, and you could tell care went into how it was made. They also have a full bar with a good selection of alcohol, although I didn't order any drinks this visit. I spent about $36.00 total including tip. Overall, my experience at Mark's Grill was excellent. Great food, outstanding service, and a clean, welcoming environment. 5/5 -- I'll definitely be back.

I've had soup bread bowls, but not hot and crispy, and of course, not chicken salad. The sides menu is a long list; I chose onion rings. The only downside about my born day is the close proximity to Valentine's day. Which can sometimes make the planning around the commercialized love day tricky... especially when it comes to restaurant reservations.... Womp womp. Backstreets Grill said they could accommodate a party of 8. They were clearly busy and with our party size we could understand. Nonetheless, we had a very loonnngggg wait, which was frustrating and deflating. We waited 4x the time the young ladies initially told us upon arrival. However, once we were finally seated things started to turn around slightly. I say slightly because we were seated on the enclosed patio, with a portable heater but several people were cold. Just to think they kept asking us and others if we wanted to sit outside. (It's February @ night). Now the food: Some of the dishes were more favorable than others and I must admit all of my personal choices were great. Appetizers: -Mussels - White Wine (My Order) -Fried Oysters (I tried) -Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna -Lump Crab Dip (I tried) -Tomato Parmesan Soup (My Order) -Side House & Caesar Salads (I tried) I personally had the Mussels, which were perfect, and the tomato parmesan soup and both made you want to like the bowl. The broths were so good. I tried the fried oysters, they were also very good, but the presentation was a little messy. The Lump Crab Dip and the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna completely fell short and were not memorable at all and the side salads were sad. Entrées: -Cajun Chicken Pasta w/ Blackened Shrimp (My order) -Buffalo Chicken Pizza (I tried) -House-made Meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes & vegetables -Pork-chop w/ mashed potatoes & green beans -Chicken Bacon Ranch Quesadilla w/ Fries -Ribeye w/ Truffle Parmesan Fries My sister and I both ordered the Cajun Chicken pasta, I added the blackened shrimp to my order, we were both extremely happy. The dish was not spicy but it was well balanced. The recipients of the Meatloaf, Buffalo Chicken Pizza and the Quesadilla were all also pleased with their dishes. The folks that ordered the ribeye and the two pork-chops were not impressed... the dishes were just ok. Our server Adrian, was pleasant, but you can tell he was very overwhelmed which sometimes didn't translate well. As the night went on we understood he was being pulled in multiple directions at once and he did good despite of it. Overall I enjoyed my celebration and experience @ Backstreets Grill. Just A Note: I notice that they can get busy so be ready to wait. Even smaller parties were forced to stretch their patience.
