I…read morestood in line for over an hour waiting to simply drop off 3 ups Amazon returns, (which as a side note this is supposed to be a more convenient method for Amazon returns) & the ONE worker they had behind the counter was a woman who was taking that current time (a very busy time) to rip into & remove everyone's items separately from the boxes the customers had the items pre packaged inside of, & she than bagged the items in a plastic bag versus the boxes they were already originally inside of & than she would place the items in these new sealed bags inside of these larger boxes behind the counter, creating double the work for herself, & she would keep scanning a barcode on the side of the big box for each item that went inside of it. When I did finally get to the front of this ridiculously long line that moved in very slow motion I asked her why she was doing this & she told me "if the items are inside of a bag versus a box it saves room inside the larger boxes". Which I can appreciate & understand the logic behind this, however what I should have asked was why she was choosing to do this right than & there versus ohhhhh idk, maybe when it's not the busiest time of the day?!? I couldn't understand why there was no one in charge to tell her what she was currently doing was creating more work for herself, but more importantly was creating an unnecessary delay for every single person that stood on that line! I mean if your so set on saving space just scan the packages as their coming in, inside of the boxes customers have already packaged them inside of, put them aside, give the customer their receipt, & tear into these boxes & re-bag everything in plastic bags when the line isn't going out the door & THAN place them in of the bigger boxes all going to Amazon to save space & also to save customers time & aggravation.

But when I have needed window service, I have had polite and friendly help. Shoutout to Red!! Clerks have gone above and beyond for me, like when I've forgotten to cover something on a box which might affect delivery. Give respect, get it. I've learned, through talking to these folks, that sometimes there are circumstances beyond their control. People complaining don't seem to get that they have rules they need to follow. They care about their jobs, and they know what they should be doing and how to do it. Town Hall is across the street and despite a sign politely requesting only Post Office customers to use their lot, Town Hall customers park there, so it's not always as crowded as it might look. Lines can be long, yes. Many times there is only one clerk available, and since they do passports here, which take a LOT of time... well. There are also a lot of folks who require help with their packages. A lot of elderly folks and people who don't do it often enough to know how things work. If all you have is a dropoff, you're good. Please give the clerks a break, sometimes it really does take a while to give folks the service they need. I have seen people come into this place literally 2 minutes before closing, with a package that's STILL OPEN, and not even addressed. You think they're going to be happy about that!? Of course not. But they still spend a good 10-15 minutes helping anyway, advising folks of their options, taping up, etc. Sometimes scans take a while and there have been times when I checked tracking for my packages and didn't see a scan there for a few hours, but jeez, if you buy your labels online then you have a record, so no sweat. If there is a long line, and you really must have a scan of half a zillion packages and receipt printout and will snarl if you don't get it... I'd suggest going instead to the "basics" branch in the Four Seasons gas station at the intersection of Pawtucket & Waterman a mile or two away. Usually no line there.

AVOID POST ALL if you want your package to be shipped via the service you paid for…read more Mine was not. I paid $130 to ship a package FedEx Priority Overnight for Saturday delivery but the employee created the shipping label incorrectly. As a result, delivery was/is scheduled for Monday. It is a high value package going to a large apartment building in Manhattan. I arranged for the recipient to be there all day on Saturday. Since it will now be delivered on a work day, the package could very easily get lost sitting in a hallway for 10 hours. I spoke to Bill (owner) Saturday morning. This was his response: First thing he said -- "I don't like being bothered on a Saturday morning". He showed absolutely no willingness to even discuss, which added to my frustration. He told me he didn't like my tone. And when I said my husband (a regular customer also) wasn't happy either, Bill said "I'm sure he isn't, he has to listen to you" and hung up the phone. No apology. No attempt to rectify. No refund. Save yourself aggravation and money. Go to the FedEx store around the corner. Yes she is direct and will ask as soon as you walk through the door if you are dropping off a pre-paid package. If you are she'll let you know where to leave it so it gets sorted correctly. It's quick and you can get on your way. Lots of other drop off places charge you up to $1 or more just to drop off a pre-paid package and she doesn't charge. That's a big deal to me since I ship often. If you need something else she's helpful and will get it done. Tape costs money and she is a small business. If you don't bring your own then expect to pay for it. Not an unreasonable ask, especially if you are looking down your nose at her because she didn't give what you deemed a properly bubbly greeting. She does run on cash or check only so be prepared for that, again small business and running cards costs money. It's a small business I'm glad is here and I'm happy to support.

It was fine, the staff were friendly and helpful enough (not overly so, though). There was often a line to get help from the window, but the staff were pretty timely - I never felt my wait was longer than appropriate for the number of people ahead of me. This post office is on the small side - there is a sizeable area for PO boxes, but I'd say the inside area where the front counter is is actually pretty small. Also, the parking lot is really awkward and for a bunch of the parking spaces you are often backing out into the path of traffic who are entering the lot. For me this often adds stress to the visit, but the convenience(for me) of the location led me to use this post office exclusively, instead of the others in town.

Luckily, a neighbor noticed the pile and retrieved it before it got soaked. I recently had my mail held for two weeks. When service had resumed but I had only received 4 pieces of mail I went to the post office to pick up the rest. The female clerk on the desk on 2/27 handed me a loose pile of mail. When I started to go through it I realized that I had at least 25 pieces of mail belonging to 3 different Portsmouth residents who lived at different addresses- credit card and bank statements, letters from health insurers, etc. In the middle of this pile I found a hold mail slip for one of these residents who was not due to return for another 2 weeks! If my two experiences with this post office are an example of how their operations are being run, it appears that some significant changes need to be made.
