I went here yesterday afternoon to post a letter overseas to a friend. I could have naturally gone to a USPS office to mail it, but they were either far out of my way and/or the ones I have been to have horrible customer service -- last year when I was mailing Seasons Greetings to the same friend, for instance, the USPS of West Lafayette wanted to rip me off for $14 just for a stamp, while this location last year just charged me ~$4. Already $3 too much in my opinion to send a little bit of paper, but whatever -- $4 is a sight better than $14.
Apparently now it was UPS' turn to be outrageous: Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum are working behind the counter, unsmiling and unfriendly as they deal with a huge line of students trying to return their textbooks. I get up to the counter for my turn, thinking this will be a cinch compared to other people's request since I am just mailing a card, but I immediately get all sorts of invasive questions that I did not get last year and Tweedle-Dee pulls out a larger mailer to put my own envelope in. Weird, but I figure whatever -- until I get to the payment and see that they are trying to charge me 164 motherf-ing dollars to mail a Christmas card! WHAT?!!?
I'm of course astounded and ask what on earth they are trying to pull, and whereas Tweedle-Dee just seems silently put-out, Tweedle-Dum chimes in claiming it is a great deal, that USPS would charge more. It was only when I brought up the fact that I sent from this very location last year for only $4 that the mix-up became clear -- these idiots somehow thought it was reasonable to automatically assume I wanted some sort of express international shipping (and hence the special envelope) and charge me $164, when I said nothing of the sort (just said "I want to post this to X country") and when no one in their right mind would ever want such a thing.
I got my $4 stamps after all, but neither Tweedle-Dee nor Tweedle-Dum acted apologetic about it, with Tweedle-Dum actually rolling her eyes when I made it clear I just wanted normal postage. So, horrible customer service -- will not be back to this location. read more
