Only one employee working at 8:30 am, with five people waiting in line and the phone ringing with no one to answer it. The employee didn't seem to know how to use the copier and took multiple times to get it right. Before work, lunch hour, and after work are probably the busiest. Drop off of the package went smoothly. The item was delivered on time however all but one 1 in the box was shattered. The worse part was that I paid the UPS store to package the box for safe keeping and the items were not properly packed. They packed my items in a new box, of the 4 ceramic items 1 item was wrapped in 2 inches of bubble wrap (only item that survived) and the rest were in 1 layer not even taped closed. For the item of thick ceramic to shatter is telling to the bad packaging and shipping job that was completed at this store. Worse part yet - I cannot file a claim since these items were given to be by a family member who passed. If there are no receipts of purchase you cannot file a claim. Do Not ship or have this store package your items. I would say UPS in general but lets face it you have to ship via UPS every now and again. Just be prepared if anything goes wrong. read more

This business is unreliable. I called the store earlier in the day to make sure they were open until 7pm as advertised. The woman I talked with assured me I could bring my package in until closing. I walked up to the door well before 6:30 only to find the door locked and the person inside pulling the steel gate closed. I knocked and he made a closed motion with his hand. He refused to come to the door. Several other people walked up in the five minutes I stood outside entreating him to take my package. All of them expecting it to be open and all of them disappointed. Granted I didn't really do anything too crazy or complicate here but the lady who helped me was helpful and prompt. I stopped in to mail a large item and it took just a few minutes for her to weigh it, enter in the destination, and swipe my card. She took care of the rest--packaging, addressing, etc. I didn't have to do a darn thing (which was welcome since I was in a hurry) and I was on my way out in just under 5 minutes. The male employee was rude and hostile when I asked several questions about arrival dates and cost. He was clearly annoyed with my questions. Unfortunately I need to add to the negative reviews of this UPS Store location. I sent documents to Europe on Friday September 2nd. They were urgent legal forms which had to be there by Wednesday September 7. Monday morning (September 5 - Labor Day) I realized that the package wasn't even in the UPS tracking system. Being a holiday, I phoned UPS itself asking if the envelope had been delivered. I got UPS Singapore who told me that because the tracking number was not active, it had never left the store. Be well aware that the UPS Store is independently owned and UPS has no control over their actions. I also phoned the store on Monday and was able to leave a message on the answering system, leaving all the pertinent information asking that they urgently check Tuesday to find the documents. I still haven't had an answer to that call. I went today (Tuesday) to, at this point receive a refund of the $126 charge I paid as the documents wouldn't be needed if they were not there Wednesday morning Europe Time. The employee tried to be helpful, but wasn't sure what to do when I asked for a refund, so she went for the owner. He repeated her statement that "we don't make refunds", so I said that I didn't want to have to go to court for a service not received. The owner paused, looked at me and said "what did you say". I repeated the phrase, which apparently infuriated him. He threw the receipt on the counter and told me: "see you in court then" and walked away. I was kind of surprised actually, until I started to read previous reviews of this location. I've lodged a complaint with UPS Store Corporate and we'll see where that gets me. I'm pretty sure it won't lead to anything, because I suspect that there is fine print in the agreement that says they're not responsible for not delivering packages. I'll update the review once the issue is resolved. In the meantime, I recommend you go with FedEx. COMMENT TO OWNERS REPLY: I'll not be making any nasty comments because it will serve no purpose. UPS stores are rather convenient places in general, but the horrible, abysmal, torturous, ridiculous absence of customer service at this location makes it the ONLY UPS store at which I've had a bad experience. The whole problem is the guy who actually owns and usually manages the store...this guy has absolutely no acumen for running a retail service business. He just completely fails to understand the basic tenets of the service industry, his attitude is bad, is demeanor is gruff and unpleasant, and he even smells rather bad. But the last time I was there and I needed to ship a bicycle I had a great experience...the owner wasn't there! It was a younger, nicer, smarter, friendlier guy named (I think) Dan of James or something like that. This guy is amazing!!!! I heard about problems using UPS to ship bikes and was leaning toward using FedEx as the internet forums recommended. UPS was closer, but when I went, they didn't have the right box, I thought I did, but I was wrong, so then I went to FedEx and they were COMPLETELY worthless. By this time it was 6:45 and the UPS store closes at 7:00pm. I called and he agreed to stay open the extra time so I could get my package shipped. AMAZING!!! That's so far above the norm of mediocrity common in Ann Arbor that I was truly surprised...and considering my usually dealing with the uncouth oaf who usually runs this place I was really impressed. So here's the deal with the stars. If the owner is there, it is a 1-star turd soup that doesn't deserve ontological status. If this other guy is there then it's a 5-star shining gem of excellence. I ship the same packages to my corporate office regularly and know the shipping costs from the UPS Store (i tell them the measurements of the package!) I went into this store to ship two things which I told the woman could be taped together and shipped as one. She insisted it be two packages and charged me over $26 for the shipping. I questioned it but was in a hurry. The very next day i shipped the exact same two packages from the Troy store and they taped them together as i asked and charged me $14. I ordered an engagement ring online with the intention of proposing to my girlfriend on our anniversary; UPS was the carrier. I knew that I would be working during normal delivery hours so I used the UPS app to change the delivery so I could pick it up at the UPS Store across the street from us. Unbeknownst to me, there were special instructions preventing the delivery details from being changed, however none of that was communicated to me by UPS and all of my selections appeared logged. Instead, I received 3 missed delivery notes on our door, not ideal for a surprise proposal, but fortunately I had used my neighbor's name on the delivery address just in case. After multiple calls to customer service I learned that I would have to drive to the distribution center 20 miles away to pick up the ring, which meant leaving work early to make it there in time. Yet, when I arrived at the location I was again denied, this time because my ID did not match my neighbor's name (I had told UPS repeatedly that that would be the case). I even had the jeweler speak directly with the UPS to confirm that I was the intended recipient, but to no avail. They had to change the label so I could pick it up the next day (the day before our anniversary/the proposal). To make sure I got the ring, I stayed home from work that day. Finally, the ring arrived at the store, yet when I went to pick it up I was told that there would be a $10 charge for the package. When buying an engagement ring, $10 is pretty insignificant, however after all the stress and frustration and the fact that I had already paid for shipping on the ring, the charge was just insulting. Moreover, I find it incredibly deceptive that UPS lists "pick up package at nearest UPS location" as an option without any warning that there will be a charge when you arrive to pick it up. I order quite a bit from Zappos, which offers free shipping on returns. Since I'm ordering shoes online, I return quite a bit to Zappos as well. This is my go-to place to mail back things I'm returning or exchanging. There's plenty of parking and rarely a wait. I've never had poor service here, and I'm in 2-3 times a month. read more

Not too impressed with this location. I know it's that time of year with Long lines and people being well in the spirit as I see that sarcastically LOL. And I know the store actually was very expedient on that part. However no matter how many people were serving clients it seemed like they all were not really helping people they were on a ship them in ship them out mentality. Especially with me when I came in with a box that I also had the barcode in hand asking for help and the media thing she did was instantly cut me off and tell me I had to do everything online. When I was told that they would help me print out a stupid little barcode so I can ship my package that day. And then she has the gall to charge me which I was expecting but the fact is is that I just walked out because I could not stand the fact that she was being very rude and sarcastic towards me and I would not have any of that. Hello, I just wanted to send some feedback on my visit to store 4295 this morning, 12/13. I had heard that UPS shipping rates had increased so I thought I would try USPS this year. However, I left the post office feeling frazzled because it was like a zoo. People were impatient, and there was nowhere to stand and wait in the long line. I decided to leave and go to the UPS store at 2531 Jackson Road like I had always done in the past. I walked in to a calm and pleasant atmosphere despite a little bit of a line. There were 3 groups of customers ahead of me and one customer behind me. Everyone was just waiting patiently and there was plenty of room to stand in the clean and uncluttered store. There was one associate working, and I believe her name is Rosette (from my receipt.) She was calm, patient, and polite the entire time. When it was my turn, she clearly explained my box options and shipping costs, confirming the arrival date was okay. My information was quickly pulled up by phone number, and my parent's name and delivery address were already in the system as well. Rosette took my overfull box of gifts, recommended a more appropriate size box, weighed my packages, gave me my total, and nicely told me she would re-pack everything in the new box and get it ready to ship. I left feeling so thankful that I had come to the UPS store. I remember having a similarly pleasant experience the last time I shipped a package. I really commend your associates for remaining calm, patient, and polite even when busy. It was such a pleasure, and it seems rare to have such a good experience sometimes these days, that I felt compelled to write in with the details of my experience. I dropped by UPS today to ship a product I wished to return. I required the packing material, as it was a larger box. The gentlemen was happy to help me: measuring the box, creating the shipping label, and adding insurance. After he completed these steps he informed me I was 'all set', but without packaging the box, which he said he would do in the back. Ummm... I don't think so... I wished to see this box wrapped up in its entirety, which I kindly requested and he didn't like. He told me it would 'take a while' since he would have to bring the packing material to the front, which I was fine with. He went to the back, grabbed a box, cut it down to size and taped up my package in less than 5 minutes. When he finished I thanked him, to which he responded with a grumble and brought the package in the back to be shipped (I presume). I won't be going back to this location. read more

Stay away! I had a prepaid package that I wanted to drop off on a Saturday afternoon. When I got there the door was open, not unlocked but actually propped open to allow in fresh air. A store employee stopped me at the door and told me the store was closed. I said I was just dropping off a prepaid package. She refused to take it. I explained that I was in no hurry, they could ship it out the following week, and I didn't need a receipt. She still refused, telling me that the machines were shut down already. I suggested she put a sticky note on it that said "Customer dropped off at closing on Saturday. Please ship upon store opening." Then this employee said, " I'm sure you don't go above and beyond in your job." When I tried to respond to this inappropriate allegation, she said, "I don't have to stand here and listen to you" and then slammed & locked the door in my face. The store owner did follow up with me (much appreciated) after I emailed a complaint. I told him I would like an apology from that employee. It's been several months and I'm still waiting. In the meantime, I've been using the UPS Store on Main Street with fantastic results. read more

I sold a very expensive item and rushed in on a Saturday to ship. Paid extra for packaging etc. went home and notified the buyer. Come Monday the buyer said the tracking number is not recognized by UPS. I went in and the owner told me it would be in the system by 8:30. I informed the buyer. Now it is Tuesday late afternoon. I have been trying to find the items anywhere in the UPS system... no luck. UPS says the stores are independent and can't help. I went to the store and they told me to come back tomorrow and talk to the manager. They can't find my items anywhere either. This is the inept and incompetent business I have ever dealt with. They make the government look efficient. I could have driven the items cheaper and faster (perhaps walked them over). read more

I've been here several times, and usually the experience is OK. Today my experience was just bad. First, the store is a mess. There are packages and piles of stuff everywhere. The employee there was throwing other packages on the floor to make room for new ones. Granted, I know that there's going to be some bumps along the way with sending any package, but treating packages this way in front of customers seems pretty careless to me. Second, the wait was ridiculous. There was only one employee working, and she was trying to help multiple customers at once, and really being pretty ineffective with all of them. Third, I was particularly appalled at the way she handled my transaction. I was bringing in items to be shredded. Clearly there was sensitive personal or financial information in there, otherwise I would've just thrown it in the recycle. After she weighed my items and charged me for their shredding, she left the bag on the scale and went on to help a different customer with a fax. I stood there and waited, and then asked her if I should put them in a bin somewhere. Her response was no, I'll take care of it. She had already had her back to my items once when I was standing right there. I repeated that there was sensitive information in there that I did not want left on the counter, and she told me she was standing right there and nobody would take anything, in a condescending tone. She proceeded to leave my sensitive information sitting on the scale while helping other customers. It would've taken her about one minute to walk the items over to the shred bin and make sure that they were securely taken care of, or at least to put them on a back counter where anybody walking in the store could not reach out and grab them (not that there was any room back there with the piles of other stuff). Instead, she chose to insult me and still leave everything sitting there in the open, while looking at me like I was crazy for being concerned. Perhaps she's never had her identity stolen, like millions of other people in this country. I will not be returning to this location, and I would recommend that you steer clear of it as well. read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS LOCATION TO SHIP ANYTHING IMPORTANT!! We had them package and ship a large picture for us in December (!!), and it arrived with a crack in the glass. UPS and THIS UPS STORE have refused to honor the insurance coverage we had on the shipment. Worse, the store manager refuses to take or return calls and is "not in" when we stop by. USE THEIR SERVICES AT YOUR OWN RISK. Don't have them ship anything breakable or having any value. They DO NOT CARE about your package, their customers, or honoring their commitments. Our last resort will be to take them to court to collect what they owe us. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
