Katie, the owner, has created an incredible barre studio. Each 60-min class is a combination of yoga, Pilates, cardio, barre, sweat, and fun. Yes, your hips will hurt! And your butt and obliques will be sore, but I always have a smile on my face. And I'm a guy in a predominately female space! I honestly don't know why men avoid barre; it's an incredible workout. Each instructor is a little different and the classes are unpredictable. Every fitness welcome is welcome and encouraged and the location is perfect. SCAMMERS! My friend and I both booked for the April 11th class. We received a confirmation email…read moreafter paying. A day before the class, we received a text confirming the class date and time. We showed up about 20 minutes early. The storefront has a piece of paper on it saying to enter through the back. We walked into the alley and the door was locked so we knocked. NO ANSWER at all during the entire time we were there. We kept knocking. We called and left a voicemail. I tried texting. We sent an email. We went to the store next door and asked if they knew what was going on with this business and they said they had no idea. We stayed around for a while, banging on the front and back doors. NO RESPONSE so we had no choice but to leave. When we got home, we called and still no answer. I'll be disputing the charge with my bank AND reporting this "business."

We moved from Portland and I belonged to a Bar studio there, which I loved. Haven't done anything since, except try to do yoga videos on Amazon (it's not the same as going to a class, mostly because I have a hard time keeping myself focused and motivated). I attended my second class at YogaJoy today (PiYo with Kimmie) and it rocked. Kimmie is such a fantastic, enthusiastic, and helpful instructor (I also took her Buti Yoga class last week - such a fun class!). The other students in the class were super nice, too, as well as everyone else working at the studio (I like nice people - I am immediately turned off by anyone snobbish, which has not been the case here). The location of this studio works for me (there's literally nothing else closer except maybe a gym in Deer Park). Also - they offer childcare. What?! That's amazing. (I have a 2 and a 4 year old.) I have been trying to get into yoga for years and have never found a space I enjoy. The Mat is the first studio where I want to go back. The floors are great for me because they are covered in a firm mat. This way the floors a firm enough to support you through poses, but give a little to help my knees and other sensitive areas like my tail bone. The studio has accessories like blocks and straps available so that you don't need to bring them. The cleaning solution smells wonderful, like eucalyptus, so the studio smells more like a spa and less like a gym. They have multiple classes including restorative, power, and intro to yoga. The studio offers "hot yoga", but not Bikhram hot. This is great because it keeps my muscles warm without making me sick with heat. It is a small studio, so the instructors are able to give each student personal attention. The instructors watch your form, and help motivate you to move on to the next level when you are ready. They also support beginners and those of us with strength or flexibility limitations with the modified poses and remind the class that yoga is a personal practice, not a competition. This studio is great for all levels, and the different classes allow you to relax or get a butt kicking workout. The students are all very friendly as well, and I don't not feel judged. It is a welcoming environment and I actually enjoy yoga finally.
