I love the…read moreconcept and the ever changing and evolving drinks on tap as well as an inventive sounding menu. The staff were friendly and we appreciated "The Library" filled with games and books. I was nostalgic and read Hunter's Guide to 1996 Michigan complete with a recommendation to stop at the now obsolete Pleasure Island Water Park. That used to be my absolute favorite getaway as a kid! We ordered arancini as a starter that came out tasting crisp like a tator tot, but the shape and taste actually reminded me more of a fried tteokbokki (Korean rice noodle) known for its deliciousness through its texture highlighting the spicy sauce. This would've been amazing had they had a nice gochujang mayo combo to dip this crispy treasure in, rather than ranch and pizza sauce. Next we tried the tikka masala pizza. Fun and inventive idea... much better than the naan pizza I had in Muskegon... however the sauce didn't taste as good as my homemade tikka masala base and though the pizza was tasty with varied texture, we found it somewhat lacked seasoning especially on the protein. If I were to construct it, instead of potato I would've had chicken, red pepper, cilantro, fresh avocado and pickled onion. Yum! To drink, I enjoyed a refreshing ginger Kombucha sourced from Walker Brothers in Nashville Tennessee. The kids loved their cheese pizza and cheese smash burger with fries and drinks. Overall, great first experience and would love to come back as it seems like they are constantly reinventing themselves with tasty morsels and brews. If you come, there is free parking in the back. If you love it here there is a $150 lifetime membership (not sure what that all entails but sounds special). Thanks 7 Monks, we will be back!

Cafe Mamo is truly one of the most special restaurants in Grand Rapids…read more A small, local, farm-to-table bistro with a weekly rotating menu run by a husband and wife? Am I in Grand Rapids or Europe?? The premise alone is enough to get people in the door, but the execution is what will make customers return time after time. The ambiance is perfect. Feels like a cross between your grandma's cottage, a cozy breakfast nook, and a Michelin star restaurant. The staff was lovely and attentive. You can tell that they put their heart and soul into curating a five star experience for their guests. And the food? Great. Not blow-your-hair-back, but it was great. We started with the shishito peppers, hit with a quick sauté and some parm and aioli. They were really just peppers, fresh and delicious in their own right but nothing spectacular. Our entrees were the pork ribs and the (some type of pasta filled with cheese whose name alludes me). The ribs were good, but the flavors were foreign to me. Black olives and ribs is a new combo, and while it wasn't for me, it was still great to try a new thing. The pasta was the star of the show, it felt like that scene in Ratatoullie when Anton Ego eats the ratatoullie and is transported back to his childhood. The ice cream was BOMB. House made cantaloupe ice cream?? I'm not a dessert guy and this knocked my socks off. I'd go again just for this. And the cocktails were lovely as well. I got a martini with olive oil, which was literally vodka with three drops of olive oil and some Maldon salt. Simple yet perfectly executed. My fiancée got a sort of gimlet which was also superb. Overall, Cafe Mamo reminded me that dining at an establishment is an experience, and that experience is influenced by more than the food. The service, atmosphere, cocktails and desserts were all truly top notch. While the food was a bit of a miss for me, I respect the rotating menu and the fact that even the best artists can't produce straight bangers 100% of the time. I will certainly be returning to this establishment, as I am in full support of everything that this place stands for and will vote with my dollar every chance I get! Yet another win for Creston, Cafe Mamo is an instant classic!

Our drinks were however awesome, I got a nonalcoholic citrus ginger mocktail, which was perfect for the summer weather. We got seats outdoors on their small patio. I think the whole appeal of this place is the farm to table with a limited menu. Definitely need a reservation because the place is small and I don't think they would be able to accommodate walk-ins because service is pretty slow. But honestly, that makes for a lovely two hour, almost European style dinner with multiple small courses and lots of drinks. They also have a dessert of the day which was a windmill cookie ice cream, which we did not try, but sounded lovely. Prices were very fair. I would definitely come back to try another daily menu.

Noco Provisions, Grand Rapids, Michigan…read more While visiting a local whom I've known since law school 40 years ago, we stopped at Noco Provisions on Cascade Road, Grand Rapids in late June 2026. We arrived around 5:30 p.m., early enough that there were still places to sit, inside and outside. Our host explained that the tables were full at the moment, predicting a table would be ready within 15 minutes. We agreed and headed to the bar. As we were getting settled there a table opened up and we brought our drinks from the bar to the table (Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay, $15; White Claw ($5) and a Bombay Sapphire ($10), all subject to a 3.5% surcharge, which is never actually explained, so we can't tell if the server gets to share in the benefit of the surcharge or whether he or she gets nothing from the charge. I assumed the restaurant was not sharing this money with the service staff, so I tipped as though she was not a beneficiary of the charge. Service both at the bar and at our table was great. I ordered the Prime Rib French Dip ($22.00, thinly sliced prime rib topped with melted white cheddar and au jus. Served on a toasted hoagie bun with fries). The meal was presented with less than a 20-minute wait, totally in line with the venue. Our server was observant (she kept our water glasses full) and helpful. Since the sandwich was pretty substantial, I was able to box up half plus the leftover fries, making a great lunch the next day. Great service, authentic American menu, nice indoor layout with equally nice outdoor seating.

The mojito was fresh and refreshing with a perfect balance of sweetness and mint. The bourbon smash was just slightly fruity, had a nice kick, and went down easy. I forgot to take photos of the pizzas, but we got the pepperoni with honey and the margarita. Both were fantastic, with perfect wood fired crust that were chewy, thin, and had great texture. This part of Michigan is loaded with unique spots to eat and if I lived here, I would definitely be back!

First and foremost, the inside feels like a dive bar (complete with the stale beer smell), but the patio is quirky, fresh, and fun with dogs allowed- lending to a lighter and brighter feel. We snagged a table and chairs that were mostly clean; the server came rather quickly and (though towering in stature) was very quick, adept, and patient with us while ordering. We committed to splitting the crab Rangoon appetizer, the burger special: pimento cheese double smash burger with bacon jam upgraded to fries, and 3 (yes three!) Farmhaus Bloom's to wash it all down. Everything was spectacular. The Farmhaus bloom was my first taste of a delicious blueberry cider lemonade with a splash of lavender that reminded me of a liquid sour jolly rancher. It was deliciously addicting. lol. The burger was also incredible. I'm not that into burgers, but I dare say this was an art form. I would definitely come back and try some more. The crab Rangoon appetizer was fun and a great shareable with the table. Our waiter showed up at the perfect times... truly a master of his craft and would casually ask if we needed a refill. Very on vibe. Overall, I find Logan's Alley to be a local watering hole with surprisingly excellent food. They are actually living up to the term gastropub without even the slightest bit of pretentiousness detected. Very refreshing! It's certainly not a vibe I'd take my kids to, but I would def come back with friends or just the hubby... and with food this good it'll be hard to stay away.

For every pro, there is a con. Well, kinda. Pro: Extensive selection on tap. Con: One of our beer lists was outdated, and they last updated the rest 3 days ago. So not a 1:1 match. Pro: Most of the beer is local. My dark lager came from Comstock Park, as had I not 30 minutes prior. Con: There are seven sister locations, so this is actually a small chain, not a local independent establishment. And most of the sisters are uppity-looking from their names. Pro: Delicious food all around, everyone agreed. 5 star taste. Con: Very heavy, calorie-intensive, etc. Don't expect to eat healthy. Pro: Great waitress who got our sense of humor, willing to take a group photo. Con: umm... didn't sit with us and join our table... umm... okay no cons with her. Pros outweigh the cons. One of my friends and I ordered the Gentle Tussle cocktail, which came with rose petals. While it looked beautiful, we found it very difficult to drink and didn't enjoy the flavor. I understand that cocktails can be a matter of personal taste though so others may feel differently. For my meal, I ordered the brick chicken which is a grilled chicken thigh with potatoes and green beans. The chicken was a little underseasoned and undercooked, the potatoes were unfortunately not fully cooked either, and the green beans had a flavor that seemed off. Overall, I had a very poor experience with the food this time around. The highlight of the evening was our server, who was friendly, attentive, and did a great job throughout our visit. He recommended the cocktail, and while it wasn't for me, I appreciated his service and hospitality. I'm hoping this was just an off night because the server did tell me that the day I went was the first day with their new menu. I'd be willing to give it another try in the future, but I left feeling pretty disappointed this time around.
