Quite possibly the worst club in Chicago. My friends and I tried to go for a special event, which did not require an RSVP or any type of registration. In fact, the email they sent out said that an RSVP specifically did not reserve your spot. We arrived around 10PM and were turned away because we did not RSVP. I tried to talk to the bouncers who proceeded to talk to me in an extremely rude manner. They then said they have the right to turn away any patrons for whatever reason they would like and we did not fit their standards, even though we stuck to the strict dress code. Don't waste your time going here. Staff is rude, club is overpriced, you might as well go to any of the other clubs in the area. read more

Damn. Thang. Done. Here. After a failed attempt to make it inside The Underground 2 years ago, my time finally came this past Saturday. Walked down the steps and the club was smaller than I originally thought. Looks bigger on the pics from the website. Still a good time was destined to be had. Me & my 4 man/woman entourage made our first stop at the bar as the DJ did his thing on the wheels of steel. I originally assumed this place would drop some top 40 tunes, but they had the old school hip hop and more recent 90s/00s hip hop going as well as some old school classic rock joints. The DJ definitely gave a good mixture to the crowd. That alone can make a club for me. Drinkswise me and my crew stuck with Patron & Grapefruit all night, which was awesome! Everyone looked nice as you know the girls in short skirts were all in the house, LOL! Of course the posers and pretentious were in the house, but you gotta ignore them and just have a good time. Damn thang was done till 4AM as I think they shut it down @ 5. Awesome club experience and will def be back. I hear industry night on Sundays is the shiiiit!!! read more

I know there's a lot of negative reviews, but my group of friends booked bottles last St. Patties Weekend and it was phenomenal. We booked with Martin who was easy and effortless. The servers took care of us. The music was a vibe. Never dealt with randoms coming into our booths. A blast and will be back. read more

First off - never been here on a Friday or Saturday. I don't think I'd ever try. I know an impossible line when I see one (even at 1am!) However, I have been here on a Thursday, and even on that day it was the place to see and be seen. We had bottle service and the service was great. I didn't even know there was a kitchen here, but the fries someone ordered came with a deliciously spicy ketchup. The music was excellent - we were here on the 1-year anniversary of MJ's passing and the crowd was treated to a 20 minute mix of his hits. Lots of the clubbing type here, so that may affect your opinion of things, but I described it as "white girl heaven". No shame! Worried about the cover/wait? Let me just say that Underground is very social network-friendly. You shouldn't have to worry about it, at least on a weekday. I'll be back, as long as there's no mob waiting outside. read more

Sigh. I'm pretty torn on how to review this one. This is the first club I've been to, more or less (not including outside of the US on random vacations/when it was legal over there being 18+ and all). So it's hard to compare it to others. I'll start with the cons first, since I always like to end on a positive note. :) CONS! Maybe I'm just a silly youngster, but I always pictured the getting-in process as a line wherein someone checks IDs and maaaybe says "you need more guys/girls/sheep/rare metals/whatever odd form of exchange we use." But no! It was a swarm of people (including one drunk guy who was momentarily very rude to my brother's GF, but that's not UG's fault) and a swarm of bouncers/ID checkers/commodity assesors. So, to recap, swarm versus swarm. Argh. We had 5 girls and 2 guys so it was a tough sell, but we got in, hoo-rah. (Why do there need to be so many girls inside, mmm? Do they think I don't want to dance with any guys? How silly.) It was crowded. Expect me to temper this if/when I return, since apparently this was "nothing," according to my more club-savvy friend. I'm not huge into crowded, but maybe on a week night, it'd be less so? Eh, pipe dreams. There isn't a dance floor, really. Sad! I'm a crappy dancer but it would've been nice to have more of a space wherein 21st Birthday Dancing could take place. PROS! Service at the bar was surprisingly prompt, and the bartender was nice. His pours were pretty intense! I got a Diet Coke/rum, which was $9, but then again, really really strong. This would make most people happy, but as I've mentioned in other reviews, it was a bit much for me. Maybe I should get one of their specialty cocktails next time... It's classy (enough). It has lit-up maps! I like maps. You will get in more easily if you're a girl. Apparently clubs want an all-girl dance party which is great because a) guys and girls never travel together in groups ever (splitting up groups...what is this, Ellis Island? Sorry, my history major is showing, how embarrassing) - and b) a 5:1 or something girl/guy ratio realistically models the real world. Ok, so that was more of a con, but being a girl is super helpful. I'd go back, but I'd want to expect douchiness at the front, order more "foofy" things at the bar, order more bar-related things prior to entering this place, and maybe go on a less crowded night (if that exists). read more

I've gone here a bunch of times when I'm in the city with my friends. I've always had a good time and their staff has always been friendly to me and my friends. DJ is always good. People do complain about waiting outside. I travel a lot (South Beach, Vegas) it's the same situation for nightclubs all over the US. ;) read more

Considering I was formerly in the U.S. Military, I took special notice to the style and decor of Undergrounds lounge area. It was very well put together and spoke to the something covert, secretive, and undisclosed. I suppose that's why there is always a line to get in. Fortunately enough, I knew someone at the door and was ushered right in with my party. We all had a really great time and will likely return on Sunday because I hear they have some sort of CIA special going on, complete with industry access, drink specials, and so on. Either way, for a good escape after hours, this is a good place to check out and frequent. My only reservation was that the bartenders weren't as personable as I would have hoped. It's not always busy, as with any other establishment... but on those days where it isn't as hectic, I would like to see a little interaction with party-goers. It always adds that personal touch. I like to get away from that age old stereotype that bars and clubs house often rude and none- service oriented employees. read more

I was fortunate enough to check this place out on Saturday night. In order to guarantee admission, we got a table. There are 2 rooms from what I saw. The bigger of the 2 played EDM primarily and the 2nd, which our table resided, played a little bit of everything, EDM, hip-hop, R&B, etc. I loved it. If ONLY I could give a NEGATIVE 5 Stars! So, a group of 3 friends and I tried to enter the club this past Sunday with another group we met at a bar within walking distance. The person at the front rope ( I wouldn't call him security, he wore a white t-shirt and a messy ponytail, while the actual security was in all black suits), was really RUDE! Once we approached the rope maybe 40 seconds after our group and was denied entry. He stated that we needed reservations. It's funny he said that because the group that was with us did not have a reservation and was allowed entry. To add insult to injury, while waiting for our car service, we witness at LEAST 6 people walk up, show their ID and enter. NOT ONCE DID the person check for a reservation. This leads me to BELIEVE This establishment is RACIST! This place is a horrible representation of what night life should be. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! EVER! read more

One of my favorite places in Chicago for a night out. Also great for double dates! I visit whenever I'm near by. The outside line is usually a brief trip with the most friendly bouncers I've ever met! They will crack jokes and strike up a casual conversation. Very fun people! The dance floor is usually a mix of fun girls and cool guys co-mingling. Plenty of spots to sit and chat with a group--they keep the music at a level that allows for a conversation, while also making the dance floor lively. The bathrooms are always clean and they have the quickest staff in the city--seriously, I'm not sure how they manage to service drink orders so quickly. Half the reason this place is so great is the amazing staff and the other half is the awesome people that come, as I've made about 4 different connections to people I've met here. I strongly suggest you stop by for a fun night out. read more

Went there on Saturday for the first AND last time! If I could give this place zero stars I would. We were out for the night celebrating a bachelorette party and know for a fact that we had made contact with their event coordinator about coming here! As soon as we walked up to the door we were turned away by the bouncer who said, "Anyone let in after 10 PM needs to have a table reservation and bottle service." We had to argue our way in, explaining to them that our group had already made contact with one of their event coordinators and were told that this would not be a problem! After what seemed like 10 minutes of poor customer service, we were FINALLY let in. The one saving grace about this place was their bartender, Levi and the Bathroom Attendant! Levi made sure we were taken care of the entire night and provided our group with excellent service! He then asked their VIP coordinator to hear our story out...and unfortunately he was unable to do anything about the poor customer service we received! read more

Would be a better club if they allowed entry to people who showed up on a freezing cold night. Walked up to the entrance around 2am on a Saturday as their was no one to be seen. No line, no one leaving or entering. Rude bouncer demanded we give $200 each or buy bottles or we couldn't get in. Not sure why any bouncer would make such unreasonable demand unless they were totally incompetent or racist. Tried to negotiate bottles and the bouncer just ignored me. Again; no one was around the entrance except us, couldn't figure out why the bouncer was a complete tool unless he hates his job and was taking it out on us. read more

I absolutely loved this place and am happy to give it five stars! I wanted to celebrate my birthday in Chicago and my five girlfriends and I decided to reserve a VIP section here for Friday night. We had an amazing time - Phil, the host, was extremely accommodating during the reservation process and was super welcoming when we arrived, the waitresses were nice and very attentive and the security guards (esp. Omar) were awesome! There was a great DJ with the music leaning more to the hip hop/rap side of things with EDM & House music sprinkled in every now and then! No complaints, I highly recommend! As far as prices, it's pretty typical of an upscale club in a big city. Our section (for 6 women) was free to reserve and had a minimum spend of $500 in bottle service, which is easy to do as bottles range from $300 to $1,000+. Plus, we obviously had access to the bar when we'd exhausted our bottles! Again, a great experience and I can't wait to come back! read more

So apparently they do a theme every Wednesday, and I'm not sure what the theme was on this particular night, but there was a giant slice of pizza walking around!! And that there, is enough for a 5-star review.. No, just kidding. This review is for the level of service we received. We had a table reservation at 11:30pm on a Wednesday, and although we did show up late, they were very accommodating to us and got us set up within no time. Karina walked us down and placed us directly in front of the DJ booth.. GREAT SEAT! As soon as we sit down, I notice there's York Peppermint Patty's in the ice! Now, I know this might not mean much to most, but when I met the GM of Underground and he invited us to come in for their relaunch of EDW (Every Damn Wednesday), I was snacking on a York and I mentioned how it was my favorite chocolate. The fact that he took that away from the conversation, and made it part of our experience that night, really goes to show the level of hospitality that this venue provides for their guests. So thank you Dean! What's better than chocolate AND champagne? Anyways, after we worked our way through the bottle, we decided to join a group of friends that also had a table, and I noticed they cleared our table shortly after, which is completely understandable. We then moved on to the bar, where Lina took great care of us. I even got to take a picture with the giant slice of pizza that I mentioned earlier! That was my mission for the night! Overall, my girls and I had a great night. From the service, to the music, to the atmosphere in the venue; Everything was remarkable. We've been in almost every Wednesday since then because we love to check out the decor/ costumes for their different themes. It really adds that little bit of extra fun for the night! read more

After waiting outside for a while, finally made our way up to the front when the bouncer decided to only let in girls Had the girls in our group not fought for our case, then we never would have seen the inside. Hindsight is 20/20 though and I would have rather spend my money elsewhere. 5 minutes into my adventure at The Underground and I had already been asked if I had any coke. Some of the staff were mopping up the floors and shining flashlights in people's faces while the place was still packed! Makes sense though, given that the place was a literal cesspool. Normally, I would just move on from a shitty club and never return, but I'm hoping to reach out to some poor soul who is considering visiting. Don't. Had a good time at The Underground last night. I am not really into the night club scene, but we were there for a friend's birthday with a big group and enjoyed ourselves. We got there a little while after they opened and they did not charge us cover which was cool. We also were told to grab a vacant booth and make ourselves at home. The DJ tonight played a good mix of hip hop and pop, and sprinkled in some electronic dance music and rock alternative throughout the night. The drink prices here were high, but comparable to other spots around town. I guess that is the price you pay to hang out in Chicago! read more

What a huge disappointment!! Went here with Lexi and her bachelorette party girls tonight. Us... mature ladies (4 of us) got there first and we were told that the reservation for our group for bottle service.. $500 was never confirmed so we had no table. Had we not gotten some "taken care of" bottle service and a prime booth, this review would be VERY different. Okay, a few non d-bags but there were quite a few guys who are more than happy to shove a girl out of the way to get to the bathroom a little faster... true story, I saw it with my own two eyes. PROS: -No cover and got right in -Staff was attractive and very friendly -Bottle service that I didn't have to pay for- Schwing! Thanks for saving me $300. -BIG booth to sit down, stand on, dance in, etc -Attractive Patrons -All my fave top 40 jams and a very good chance of hearing Eddie Murphy's "Party All the Time" -If it weren't a nightclub it could double as a laser tag arena... just an idea to bring in a little more cash, Mr. Dec. I generally avoid partying in The Loop, but Flosstradamus has a reputation as a fun-time outfit, and I've enjoyed their previous parties. So I ventured past the confines of my beloved North Side and into the plastic-people hellhole that is The Underground. What I love about Neo's entrance (you have to walk down a dark alley to an unmarked door) I hate about The Underground's. There's no sign, but there is a guy with a clipboard checking the guest list. He kept me standing outside for five minutes while he scanned the list for my name. Cover was $1. I was willing to just throw him the dollar, but he insisted on checking for my name. In the end, I had to take the clipboard from him and point to my name, which (surprise!) exactly matched the name on the driver license I'd handed him five minutes earlier. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, a woman instructed me to leave my coat with coat check. "Oh, how thoughtful of them," I thought, "complimentary coat check." Well, complimentary with a $3 charge. Anyway, I walked in, took one look around the room and knew my $11 wasn't going to afford a damn thing. See, I generally party on $15 a night. That affords two beers, tips and a buck or two for a friend who needs it. I carry more than that, but I'm not easily willing to spend it. So I posted up against a wall and waited for something to happen. Within a few minutes, someone who thought he knew me slipped me three drink tickets. A trip to the bar revealed a lot of model types slinging drinks. They weren't bad at it, but I prefer career bartenders with a bit of grit. If you've ever met Johnny C. at Edgewater Lounge, you know what I mean. So I used my tickets to buy three whiskey diets, dumping them atop a bellyfull of Southern Comfort I'd guzzled at home. They were enough to keep my buzz going, but I can't imagine actually getting tipsy off Underground's drinks alone. And I don't want to venture a guess as to what they cost. The club has a bathroom attendant, which I hate. He was an affable guy, though, and we talked about some of the privileged trust-fund kids prowling the bar. I think I may have been the only Logan Square bum in the house. Everyone else reeked of Wicker Park, Lincoln Park and all points richer. What really matters, after all, is the music. I can deal with all the crappiness of a Loop bar if the music is good. The party I attended, Treated, was 90% abomination and 10% booty music. I heard Crystal Waters, Boys II Men, Bobby Brown and lots of other nonsense. And it wasn't a nostalgic throwback; this crap was passing as serious dance music. Ugh. The host kept yelling into the mike, "Get on the dancefloor!" But there wasn't one. As a nearby woman noted, "Anywhere you dance here, you're dancing in an aisle!" A friendly staffer noticed my Oscar Wilde lapel pin and quickly gave me a free The Underground logo pin to wear on my other lapel. I wanted to hug him. He almost made up for the bouncers, who were complete dicks. They stood around in their Special Ops uniforms, gripping their own biceps and trying to look menacing. I've had several years of martial arts training, and I generally can tell if someone's capable of throwing down. These guys are. Don't test them. I saw one choke a scrawny hipster while escorting the little guy out of the club. I'm not talking a headlock; he actually put his hand around the kid's throat and basically carried him out by the jaw. That's not the way to bounce, bud. What I'm saying is this place is a waste of time and reaffirms my conviction to avoid parties in Wicker Park and The Loop. read more

Bleh. Every 1 star review for this place is spot on. I came here because I went to Yelp's Underground event recently and I enjoyed myself. I guess the doormen were playing nice that night. However, when I returned, the doorman must have had massive male PMS because he was an ass. We went Sunday night for July 4. There was no line and we were 3 women. The Asian doorman looks at down at us (not down by much, sadly) and asks, "Are you on the guestlist?" We were not. "$20 cover." Ew, $20 cover on a Sunday night? My friend joked around with him, saying, "Oh come on, it's a Sunday night, there are three women. You can't just let us in?" And this is where Asian Doorman lets his douchebag colors fly. He responds, rather snidely, "Yeah, it's Sunday. What other *facts* can you tell me." And he does this little neck/shoulder roll and arm jiggle. I can't even describe it. Think along the lines of Shenehneh on Martin Lawrence's old TV show. He said some other crap that I don't remember, but the jist was, "I am a Doorman at The Underground, Hear Me Roar." Never mind that there were groups of drunken girls and guys before and after us who got in without paying. Nor did they check a guest list. But do you have to be an ass about it? All he had to do was repeat, "Sorry ladies, but there's a $20 cover." He didn't have to act like his entire validation in life is the power he gets from letting in fist-pumpers into a hole in the ground. Such is life. We ended up going to Epic, a much better place with great staff and lovely decor. read more

If you are going to include The Underground on a bar crawl list...don't tell the people waiting in line for 45 minutes "we are no longer letting people in who are a part of the crawl." Really? THEN you tell people who are a part of the crawl they need to pay to get in? That was the point of paying for the crawl itself. Furthermore, the crawl ended at midnight and it was well before 11:00pm. Get it together, or not. I won't be returning regardless. read more

The WORST customer service. The event coordinator said she would reserve table for my friends and I for my bachelorette party. We end up being 15 minutes late due to some jerks at at another restaurant who stayed an hour past their reservations. We inform our event coordinator that we are running late and she says sure no problem. We get to underground to find out that our table was sold! The event coordinator won't event answer the phone. We explain to the doorman our situation and he is the rudest/racist person you could ever meet. He instructs us to call our so called coordinator if we know her so well. Who says that? Horrible customer service. Save your time, there are plenty of better clubs/bars in Chicago than to waste your time here. read more

All the cool dudes with their cool upturned collars. All the cool bouncers who will turn you away if you're uncool (and thanks for turning away my friends, I obviously need cooler friends). Worst clubbing experience in seven years. I've been around great clubs in Chicago - Castle, The MID, Beauty Bar etc. Don't come here expecting that kind of quality. The initial reaction at the door was a $100 cover charge. Getting past that the next bouncer told us there was a $20 charge. Unless you know someone or get on a guest list good luck. And even then it's an ordeal. Once inside the rooms were crowded to the brim. People wait for hours to get in the door (honestly not sure why because there's nothing special inside). We felt like sardines crammed in a can. However, on top of that, the army of rude bouncers would come around every five minutes and tell us to move along. This happened at least six times. THERE WAS NOWHERE TO STOP. On top of THAT the patrons were the worst. Seriously looking around at people's faces not one of them looked like they were having a good time. Once when walking by I felt someone grab my pants from behind and try to pour a drink in. Instead of punching him I left. This club prides itself on being exclusive, but I'm not sure why anyone would want to be seen here. read more
